Came here for breakfast after my cousin's rehearsal dinner. Needed substantial food but I hate breakfast, so at least tried to find an Italian place as they're likely to (1) have more than breakfast, and (2) have good coffee. Place is a hole in the wall to the point that I walked right past it. Lone server inside was very friendly. Definitely a 'get your shit and go' kind of place, but what do you expect with Hoboken real estate. Got a red eye over ice, which was slightly burnt but still good. For food I tried the La Rustica sandwich, which has proscuitto, stracchino cheese and truffle cream on homemade bread. The bread was great and I could've had just that. Decent amount of proscuitto however the price ($16) justified that. Cheese didn't do much for the sandwich, as it was outmuscled by the proscuitto and just added a touch of cream. Truffle was similarly lost. All in all could do better, could do worse. Donut bites, on the other hand, were freaking money. Got 3 of the ones with custard and should've gotten a dozen. That made the place itself. Lots of other interesting things here worth trying. Wish I could a sandwich with mozzarella as there were plenty of others that looked good too. Definitely would give this another shot, as there's some good stuff here! read more

Very small place, really it's to go. There are a couple of chairs inside. We went here to get hot chocolate and I was disappointed. All I tasted was frothy milk. The cocoa powder was not dissolved and so I was drinking something gritty. They had no spoons, I stirred with a flimsy straw. It really had no flavor. I glanced at the sandwiches which were a focaccia square with some sliced meat -$17. Ridiculous price! I just had brunch, a huge plate, from a restaraunt up the street with 2 sides for $17. I had the loveliest lunch (and several snacks) from Prato! They've taken over this small corner shop right on Washington not long ago and, although my boyfriend has given rave reviews, I've only just gotten around to trying them out. I got the Manhattan sandwich and added arugula because I like lots of green on my sandwiches. It was really tasty! I think I'd like a little bit more of a sauce/oil, or even any. It was just very delicious prosciutto, tomato and mozzarella. As incredibly delicious and tasty as it was, I think I just need some sort of condiment. I also got some sweets! The pancioc (bread with chocolate chunks) and Pane with orange marmalade (basically a delicious jam on delicious bread). Both were lovely and such sweet treats throughout the day. They also went perfect with the large latte I also got. I'll definitely stop back in for another delicious lunch or snack some day soon. read more

Prato is an adorable little Italian bakery on the corner that carries a great selection of pastries and cookies, as well as sandwiches and other light lunch items. Most importantly, they make brutta ma buoni (ugly but delicious) cookies, which are difficult to find in NYC and happen to be my mom's favorite. The Manhattan focaccia sandwich and porchetta focaccia sandwich are both delicious, too. I'll be back for more - the biscotti looked awesome! read more

I will definitely come back. _ The most delicious homemade biscottis that I have tried are here, without a doubt my favorite is the chocolete one (I am not a fan of chocolate but this biscotti is perfect ) _ 5 stars to the coffee, we ordered a cappucino and an espresso, both super delicious, good consistency of milk, I took almond milk ) _ 4 stars to the prosciutto Foccacia, they asked me if it was hot and I said "yes" but I didn't think they would heat the arugula and the Prosciutto Crudo. . anyway the Foccacia prosciutto cotto (Italian Ham) was delicious. read more

I'm torn between three and four stars because on one hand, I feel like they totally jipped us on the pizza margherita foccacia, but on the other hand, their plain foccacia is totally worth it and really good. The pizza margherita caught my eye, and I saw a sign that said $2.90, so I thought why not? It's the perfect mid-afternoon snack. They were all already pre-cut, so one would assume that it would come out to $2.90, right? Wrong. I'm no mathemetician, but something just didn't add up if we paid $8 something for 2 plain foccacia squares (at $1.60 each) and one margherita. It turns out the guy counted the margherita as "two squares" so we actually ended up paying $5.80 a "square". It's just too bad we realized after we left the shop and already ate half the pizza. If I had known, I would have just gotten a slice of Benny Tudino's. But back to the plain foccacia. The two squares that we bought were enough to make a burger for two people for dinner one night, and two Italian sammies the next afternoon. I liked that it wasn't drenching in oil. That or maybe the paper bag soaked most of it up. Bottom line - stick to the plain foccacia, and you are good. read more

A touch of Europe in Hoboken. Unlike the big chain coffee shops, Prato gives you the civilized experience that you find in Europe; a wonderful cup of coffee in a real ceramic coffee cup with a biscotti on the side. It has become our go to place for our morning coffee. The focaccias and pastries all look delicious, but the mortadella with pistachio spread is heavenly. Just wish we had more time as I would have loved to try some others. Knowing what they offer will ensure we go back the next time we're in NJ. read more

This is purely for the ambiance. I really wanted a nice place to get tea or coffee near my job as I tend to have an hour or so between clients to kill at times. It was really nice out today and they have outdoor seating so I thought it would be nice to have a cup of tea while doing some work on my computer. The guy seemed to be alone in the bakery (and I must say the smell of bread was mouth watering tho I did not succumb to the temptation) and I ordered hot green tea bag. It was served in a paper cup. Unfortunately it was a little windy so the cup felt like it was going to fly away. The sign fell over and no one came to fix it. Although they have an outdoor area they don't seem to pay attention to it. I think if they were just a tiny bit more attentive the the outside area and maybe if the music playing inside was slightly audible from the outside it would have been nice. Take away decent cup of tea. Not great ambiance. Not great to sit at. Food could be good I didn't try it. read more

Awful service by the lady at the counter. I asked her what kind of bread these focaccia were because some of them seemed like they had olives on them and I was looking for something plain for my 1 year old and she looked at me like I was stupid. So I started explaining why Im asking the question (I'm not dumb, as a bread baker myself I know that breads may look plain but they don't have to be) and she raised her voice and asked me to relax. Needless to say I say "no thanks" and out I went. If you want bread, don't ask what you're eating. This place used to be great about a year ago. Recently, Prato has drastically increased their prices while also shrinking their portions. Most of the sandwiches are now around $17 for a few slices of deli meat on a tiny square of bread. You are guaranteed to be hungry after eating a sandwich from Prato. Worst deal around. Not to mention they don't make them fresh and they sit out all day. Very disappointed. I used to love this place but unfortunately will not be giving any more business. read more

Really awesome little Italian coffee & sandwich shop right on Washington Street. All the breads are baked at their original Jersey City location and brought in. Best part is definitely the couple that owns it speaking Italian behind the counter, as it's a throwback to what Hoboken used to be before it was invaded by fast food chains and organic vegan nonsense. Menu is very light Italian style sandwiches and focaccia breads and pastries. Great coffee bar and a selection of Pellegrino drinks instead of the usual sodas. There's a little bar with 4 stools along the windows and about 6 2-Top tables outside. read more

Only the owner -and he is the baker at the same time- knows the secret recipe. They used to be by the Grove St in Jersey City first but they opened this second cute boutique branch in Hoboken too! Close to the path, train and ferry station! Stop by to buy some croissants before going to work for your colleagues and I am sure they will ask more. It is an added benefit that a number of their staff come from Italy. I definitely recommend this little place of yumminess. Oh my goodness! We are so lucky to have a little piece of Italia in our neighborhood! My roommate and I stopped in to get a cappuccino and we made small talk with the sweet lady behind counter (my roomie had told her she just came back from Florence). We ordered two cappuccinos and got two of the chocolate cantucci. She threw in another assortment for us to try for free and then ended up giving us two foccacias for the road. Everything was delicious and that lady is a little angel! Definitely recommend and most definitely will be back. read more
