bowl of cornbeef, no cabbage to speak of and extremely dry and cold/hard bread

Rude person at front desk, very uppity, went for St. Patrick's day, the menu lacked most of what you'd want on St. Patty's day. The corned beef dinner was more of a big bowl of soup, with carrots, corned beef and enough cabbage for one fork full. There was no horseradish sauce or mustard offered for the table. It was extremely unsatisfying and the price for a bowl of "corned beef and cabbage" was $31.00. Extremely not worth it, very old outdated bathrooms also, kinda dirty. Won't waste our money at that place again. Plus, the wait for the meal was extremely long for it being the "special" you would have thought they'd be ready to go.

food was good, no reservation but they were able to get is right in on a Friday night.asked for a gf menu, they did not have, not was anything marked on the menu. service was ok. he sirloin burger pictured below was delicious. blue cheese piece was good but a bit overkill, the burger was pheromonal by itself.

Chef George is amazing & everything on the menu is wonderful!!! We had a spectacular evening of drinks, dinner & deserts!! We arrived at 730 w a party of 6 on a Friday night and were promptly seated at a nice round table. Easy to speak w everyone & the noise is just enough to provide background but still allow for easy conversation. Service was perfect, always there to make a suggestion, refill water glasses or get another drink. I had the special which was a flat iron steak + incredibly delicious Yukon gold potatoes- steak was perfect but I could have licked the dish the potatoes were served in. Others had: the chicken (awesome) the bun less burger (same) skirt steak (Scott finished before anyone else it was so good) and the white fish (I sampled - light, fluffy and wonderful. By the way, the bread they served was fantastic and I would go back for that alone!! Deserts. Where do I begin?? Probably w the chocolate chips cookie w the ice cream was my absolute fav. Others at the table voted the sticky toffee #1, mango ice cream & chocolate cake were both delicious. Great night & can't wait to return!!!

    Birthday dessert.

Had a family dinner for a special occasion (holiday birthday). The good: Easy reservation for 7 people on a Friday night and our table was lovely. Sometimes it is difficult with larger parties for everyone to talk but the large square table with plenty of room for two people on each side was a high point and quite unusual. Also, the restaurant was not overly loud. While it was not full, there were definitely enough people for noise. But the restaurant did not make things worse with loud music that everyone had to talk over. This was a definite plus. Also the restaurant had good options for bottles of wine that were not terribly priced. The not so good: the menu was limited, which can be great, but felt uninspired. And while the prices were fine in general, they didn't feel fine when the bill came and we all discussed how much we liked our meals. And similar to other reviews, we felt a little rushed and experienced overly enthusiastic table bussing.

Stopped in to have dinner this past Sunday and everything was great!! We were celebrating my daughter's high school graduation and dinner did not disappoint. The crispy boneless chicken was incredible and the blue cheese wedge salad was a great way to start the meal

I ordered the lamb special, and sent it back. It had no flavor to it, seemed like it was made days earlier.

There is a small outdoor seating area which we took advantage of since we had a beautiful late-spring evening. We both got the cucumber soup which was unique and delicious. My wife got the lemon chicken and I got the crispy cod. Both were top-notch and they know how to cook fish. I had lemon cake for desert and my wife had almond pear tart. Both great. Overall, very nice experience and we'd like to try the lunch menu next time.

However, when we entered the owner, I assume, didn't even ask for my name and insisted we sit in a four top directly adjacent to the women's restroom. I asked if we could have a different table, considering we had made a reservation, which again he did not acknowledge, but insisted that all the tables were reserved. To be clear, no one else came into the restaurant from the time we sat down to our 6:30 reservation. They close at 8:30 - I think it's saying something that no one was coming in after 6:30 pm on a Saturday. Strike one. He then asked if we wanted something to drink... I asked for an Aperol spritz... he "made one" but it clearly was made with flat prosecco. I let it go. The recommended bacon wrapped scallops were three tiny scallops for $18. They were okay, but from a bygone era, and not made well enough to justify the cost. We chose to "upgrade" to French onion soup... big mistake. It came out at a million degrees, was clearly made with mozzarella cheese and tasted like a salt bomb. I'm a big fat man, and I could barely eat it. Even as the mains came, it was still steaming on a summers day. Strike two. As for the main, I was already angry and soured by the experience. My wife and I don't go out much, as we have a baby, and it's all the more infuriating when you have such a terrible experience. The duck was okay, but the skin tasted of gas from the broiler. The "Florentine" potatoes were weird, and you couldn't choose any other preparation of potato... also weird when the entrees are $40+. Like, wtf, you can't make a mashed potato? It's clear they batch cook the "potato of the day (I've never heard of such a thing in my entire life)" and can't be bothered to cook to order. My wife's steak cut was full of gristle. When they bussed the table next to us, I overheard and saw the presumed owner and member of the waitstaff move "unused" wine glasses from a dirty table to a newly set up table. He literally said, they didn't use them. These people ate, coughed, etc with these "clean" glasses. Disgusting. Strike a million. Needless to say, we didn't get dessert. It is clear this is a "well loved" restaurant, especially by its patrons of an elderly age. As a result, I think the ownership simply does not care about new patrons. They are content to serve the same people who have been coming from the 80s. For the price point, it is unacceptable. Our server was okay. He didn't ask if we were celebrating anything, which I also thought was odd, but so be it. When he asked how we thought the food was, we said it was "eh." There was no attempt to see how it could have been better.

I always look forward to the seasonal rotation of menu items, as I know the ingredients will be fresh and in season, and I love looking forward to new dishes. I absolutely adore Spirit Elephant and have loved making this my go-to spot in Winnetka. I have had Meet Up events, girls brunches and date nights here, and always enjoy the experience. I've honestly been here more times than I can count. My omnivore friends are always pleasantly surprised once they've been officially introduced to the magic of Spirit Elephant. I've loved watching all of the small changes over the years, and have appreciated that the quality of the food and handcrafted cocktails has never changed. I have raved of the patio in the past, but they've since done two major upgrades, and I love spending weekend afternoons with a group of friends during the warmer months on their patio even more. The staff is phenomenal, and I appreciate that I always know my server will have an excellent recommendation whenever I stop in (I mean, you truly cannot go wrong with anything that you order).

The tofu in the bao buns was so crispy and delicious that my carnivore friend said tasted just like pork belly. Having never had pork belly, I was happy that to me it tasted like tofu since I love tofu. The poke nachos were a bit spicy for me but flavorful and delicious. Again, my friend thought it really tasted like tuna. My friend wanted to split the steak which I thought wasn't their strongest dish because it tasted more processed and not like lovely tofu nor like meat. But for those who enjoy vegan steaks, it was quite flavorful and moist. The potatoes were so fluffy and crispy. But not my fav of their dishes. As always the manager, Jordan, comes by and makes us feel like VIPs, laughing and treating us like old friends. And the whole team works together smoothly. Being surrounded by plants with perfect warm lighting makes the ambiance just as wonderful as the food itself.
