I've only gotten carryout from this restaurant which is a solid choice for Russian / Eastern European cuisine. The flavor and style of cooking is very similar to Allegro Deli, which provides selections of salads, soups, grilled meats, sides, and delicious entrees. Though not cheap, you can get well-prepared entrees for only a few more dollars than fast food nearby. read more

I had lunch here today with some coworkers and my experience was a negative 100. I have food allergies and the hispanic waiter refused to give me anything other than salad. Seriously? I've eaten here before and the weightlifter waiter treated me as a person. He was able to talk to the chef and alter a dish that made me want to come back for more. I wanted that same experience today and didn't get it. Please train your people to work with everyone. I'm not sure I'll give this another try... read more

Sad experiences from not even being able try the food. We have tried going there on 3 occasions! First time, walked in, very dark musty smelling but we continued up the stairs to be "greeted" by a man that literally just stared. My husband said yes we'd like a table, response.... "No, we're closed." (Unsure why the door was open and the sign said otherwise). Second time, walked in and weren't even acknowledged. Third time we figured maybe we need a reservation, let's call first.... NOPE!!! I called and was told no, we only do parties. Lesson learned, they clearly don't need business. read more

I would have never of found this place if it were not for Yelp ! As several others have commented, the location of this establishment is off the beaten path, but thanks to GPS, we found it with no trouble. You can't judge this place from the outside as it seems to have been an old warehouse or commercial business. However, all that changes very quickly once inside. The ambiance is pleasant, and very inviting. My first visit here was during lunch and being a bit early at that we were seated quickly. I did note that although not a very large place, they did not jam every inch with tables, so there is plenty of elbow room and you can have a private meal. The menu is not complex and and the prices reasonable. Our waiter was prompt, friendly, tentative and helpful in picking through items on the menu. The time from ordering to food delivery to the table was very reasonable, it came out as ordered and presented well. Best of all, we were really pleased with the quantity and taste of our appetizers and main meal. In summary, we were very pleased with Maestro Grill and we certainly will be back once again. As one fellow Yelper mentioned, it will be interesting to see what the evening crowd is like here. read more

Went here for the man's holiday work party.Upon arrival we were directed to the bar area which contained appetizers and, of course, the bar. I'd say there were about 100 people present total, yet the bar area was very small so we got our drinks and sat at the tables in the dining area. From the looks of it, we had the restaurant to ourselves which was great because...not a big place. The food was served family style, with the exception of the soup which was served from a table in the dining area. The soup was delicious! I don't like seafood, so I was very thankful when the plate of chicken came out. The chicken was pretty good, the yellow rice was good too, yet neither were out of this world. The dessert however, was very good, yet I don't think it was made in house. Overall Review: Pretty good, but not a place I need to go back to right away. I would like to share my unpleasant experience talking to the owner of Maestro Grill in person when trying to book my birthday party. I was there with my husband and my friend who was helping to organize the party. When we start asking questions he got very irritated and rude showing that he doesn't care about us and our business. He was very obnoxious and irrespective telling that we don't understand Russian and maybe he needs to talk in English. At the end he called us stupid heads and kicked us out from restaurant. This is first time in my entire life I had this experience and I didn't find what to tell this guy as well as my husband and my friend who is almost twice older then the guy. Ok to be fair I didn't eat here. My husband and I walked in at 700 on a Saturday night and were blinded by the LIGHTS. Seriously we felt like we were in a gymnasium. Visited Maestro Grill for the first time. What a gem of a restaurant! The restaurant was clean, well-decorated. Most importantly the food and service were top notch. I believe the owner was friendly, greeting us as we enter, and promptly seated us. I ordered the breaded chicken sandwich which was fresh and cooked to perfection. I'm not sure I understand how this place is rated so highly. I decided to try this place for lunch and was very dissapointed. Neither the food nor the service met my expecations at all. My waiter could barely speak any english at all. This can be forgiven if the restaurant is an ethnic restaurant and the server is clearly of the same ethnic origin as the restaurant. However Yelp lists this restaurant as "American" and some reviews mention it being "Russian", yet most of the waitstaff seemed to be communication in Spanish. It was quite frustrating trying to communicate with them. Then when my food came out, it was some of the worst seafood I've ever had. I ordered the combo plate which was $25 and all it was was an assortment of baked/boiled seafood drowning in some creamy sauce that had such a strong flavor that you couldn't even taste the fish. I ordered a seafood combo plate at Wildfire for dinner the same day, and what a stark contrast that was, and the seafood combo plate at Wildfire was only $27. read more

We just came from from one the most amazing meals that we had had in ages. I ordered the duck, it as spot one. The black current sauce was one of the best ever. My husband took advantage of the fresh Canadian Wall-eye Pike. He had them change the sauce and they were more than gracious on that request. There was only one other couple in the restaurant this evening and it was there first visit also. We compared notes and all agreed tht we would be back. The owner, Yanna, was so gracious. Very welcoming and accommodating. Since she knew it was our first visit she brought their homemade hummus. I could have eaten a bucket of it. This is a Russian fusion restaurant located in a somewhat commercial location. It appears to share a building with a racket club or gym facility. As soon as you walk in there is a flight of stairs leading to the main room. The restaurant is nicely decorated and spacious with a full bar. The service was very good the sort of thing to expect when your the only couple in the dining room. It started to fill up a little after 7 p.m. Started off with mussels there were many on the plate however they were a little tough indicating that they may be frozen and not fresh. The bread that was served was warm and came with a delightful spread. On to the entree, I had the Sea bass $25. It was well cooked and the mango topping was unique. I would say the same quality of Pavilion's sea bass for $18. The menu is similar to their competitor in Russian fusion cuisine Pavilion restaurant except much more expensive. The drink specials they offer for $4 are Jagermeister or Jamison. Not so special I can get that at a dive bar. Overall the dinner was very good I can't complain about the service. Dinner came out to $63 for two people with no alcoholic drinks. They are a bit expensive for what you are really getting. Luckily we had a restaurant.com coupon to soften the blow. read more

Maestro Grill has one of the best lunch deals I have seen. A soft drink, a soup and an entree from the lunch specials list for $8. The service is quick, the food is good and they never give you trouble about splitting the cheque. I've been here a lot of times, I usually get the lunch special with the daily pasta creation and I've never been able to finish it. My only complaints would be that they seem a bit understaffed during lunch so it usually takes a while to wave someone down if you go around noon or just after, and that the daily pasta creation is pretty much the same dish almost everyday. read more

This restaurant was heavily advertised in Russian-speaking media, so we were curious about lunch menu of ethnic variety for only $8.50. Imagine our surprise when we discovered that the printed sheet given to us, didn't contain any Russian food, at all! We were ready to leave, when waiter offered a different printed menu, also on English, but the one that contained 90% of Russian dishes. Some dishes were better than others, and, probably, deserve 3 stars. But, the whole experience - starting with the siting (we had to switch tables a couple of times) to over-sweetened drinks and indifferent waitress, just doesn't worth all of this "hoopla". Met my husband here for lunch on Valentine's Day. The lunch specials were really good. The soup, tomato barley, was delicious and full of flavor. This place is pretty, darn good! The russian fusion restaurant with an intimate decor and yummy, comfort food is what would keep me coming back for more. I really like the intimate atmosphere whether for a date night, or a private party in a larger setting, the service has always been good. The food is tasty, especially with the appetizers, like the seaweed salad, love the appetizer platter that is definitely for sharing as it has calamari, coconut shrimp, mini tacos, humus and pita bread and I'm sure something else that I'm forgetting. We've had anywhere from the duck to the lobster ravioli (which was a special i believe) to the glazed salmon, and everything was prettyy good. I think it's a little pricey, but that doesn't stop me from coming back for more. Location, eh could be better, but it is what it is. :) read more

Russian fusion restaurant with a very intimate decor, located in a commercial area where next to the warehouse, it's kind of weird location, I bet not that many people would know there is a restaurant located in the middle of no where. I had mussels as starter, mussels are not fresh and I guess they are from frozen, not good, not flavour at all. I ordered skirt steak as my entree and it's pretty good. I'm surprised the size of my steak and I only be able to finish half of it. Mushroom and onion sauce did make the steak taste even better. I'm happy with my meal. Price is quite expensive with the standard quality and the location. Service was great and the best part for the whole meal was the bread they served us, warm bread with Russian style dip with some kind of cream cheese butter, very good. read more

We went for a NYE pre-fix dinner, with my folks/friends... I'd say impressive, for such a busy night especially. I don't know what the regular dinner is like - but we sure are to find out, since I see same items on dinner menu online. The ambiance - eh, it has some, if you are of Eastern European descent (made me a little home sick), the place is very clean and on the smaller side, soft lighting and plenty of free parking. Cozy, white table cloth. Friendly, fast, non-intrusive service. Every table was booked, but managed so well. No wait for anything, just a great experience (complete with some drunken dancing to modern Russian pop on a tiny floor by a DJ booth, lol). The food was really well-prepared and creative. Fresh as well; we had a 12 course dinner + dessert. The appetizers included unusual items like seared ahi with South beach Salad (lump crab + nori) and it was to die for... I'd lick the plate if someone's grandma in a fancy hat wasn't looking. Also great were a variety of crepes - some with caviar, some with lox, the crepes themselves being paper-thin and airy. Coconut shrimp kabobs, tasty, as well as beef firecracker rolls. Nothing was overcooked or over-salted. We especially liked main entrée - petite file and lobster with horsey mashed potatoes and greens, well done, great presentation. The dessert... mmm.. that French tart with mild custard and berries (gooseberries, raspberries etc) with a sprinkle of powdered sugar... One of the best I ever had, and I normally don't like this stuff, chocolate being my choice drug. Nothing was too heavy or greasy - we've eaten an enormous amount, and felt great afterwards... left in a happy food coma. Enjoyed every little bit of it with some chilled Russian Standard vodka that was included in the dinner and Remy my folks brought. Not sure what "Russian Fusion" is..but Maestro is a restaurant that has a menu featuring a wide variety of fresh seafood, tasty appetizers, steaks, a variety of poultry, and awesome desserts. But at the same time the menu is not overpowering. It is in a commercial area of Northbrook, plenty of parking, and easily accessible from all the major streets around. I have eaten there for dinner and lunch and the food and service have never let me down. Why I love this place? The FOOD! Also its homey and relaxing atmosphere. It has a separate dining room for quiet dining, private party area to celebrate special occasions or just relax with friends, and a huge bar area with flat-screen TVs, couches, and friendly bartenders. Food is second to NONE. It is always fresh, tastes good, cooked just right, and the proper portions. You can look at their full menu on their web site...but everything I have tried there, I liked. As an addition, I would suggest the soups, as they are freshly prepared from scratch every day. I found Maestro to be great for large parties and special occasions as well. I was impressed with the variety and quantity of food on the table from their catering menu at a birthday I attended there. Very nice restaurant with a European vibe. The location is a bit weird, but the quality of the food and the relatively modest cost make this a great place to go to. The menu is varied and has something for everyone. My wife I went about a month ago for lunch. We had the goat cheese appetizer. For the main course I had the corned beef panini and my wife had the vegetarian panini. All the dishes we had were of high quality and the bill was very reasonable. Thinking about taking the whole family for dinner. Thus far this is the best restaurant I have been to in Northbrook. Some of the higher end restaurants are probably better, but the cost to quality ratio here is hard to beat. read more

I used to eat here reasonably frequently for lunch and generally had a satisfying experience when I ordered a salad with lump crab. This time I had a asiago chicken panini and it seemed to lack the kick that I was expecting from the asiago. The sandwich was ok but bland. The chicken was thin sliced like it was deli lunchmeat. The soup here is always good. This time I had the sweet pepper soup. It was a cream soup with chunks of red sweet pepper and it was delicious. Service was ok. They also redecorated since the last time I was here and except for the jumbo tv on the wall tuned to food network, it looks much more like a fancy restaurant, which it isn't. read more

Had the pleasure of dining at Maestro's ,located in an old airplane hanger which is easy to spot in the center of an business complex. The restaurant is warm and cozy, loaded with old world charm. The lounge is very initimate and quite romantic, with out of the way couches, "love seats" and tables. I had one of the specials of the day which was the chilean sea bass with balsamic glaze , and it was out of this world. My dining partner had the rib-eye , and for the money one of the best steaks you can get. if you are going out for a special occasion or just a place for a nice everyday dinner ,i would recommend Maestro's read more
