I had an amazing experience here! I ordered a Filet and it was really good. They had a special crab dips and they were really good too. When we were ordering dessert, the waiter asked if we've tried the carrot cake and when we said no, they gave us a carrot cake on the house. I am usually not a fan of carrot cake but the carrot cake here was so good. I will definitely order it when I come back. The seats have candles lit and the lights were dimmed. Although I would normally give this restaurant a positive review, I am offended by a $4.08 "package fee" they have added to carry-out orders. The manager explained that this is so the customer receives a properly packaged order. I promptly cancelled my order and contacted corporate headquarters to complain about this scam. read more

I brought my brother to this J Alexander's on a Tuesday night. The place was packed! We barely found a parking space in the huge parking lot. My brother is a vegan and I wanted him to try the veggie burger. Surprisingly, we were seated right away in a nice corner booth. Olivia was our server and it was only her second day at J Alex. She did a wonderful job considering the huge dinner rush. My brother ordered the veggie burger without cheese or mayo. The glaze on top of the burger looked amazing and the lettuce and tomato on the top bun were incredibly fresh. The lettuce was so crisp. He loved the whole meal! It was one of the best burgers ever. My Ahi Tuna Salad was a 10 out of 10. The tuna was perfectly seared and the salad was so fresh. It was delicious! My side of broccoli was amazing as well. We ordered the Four Vines Zinfandel. It was very fruit forward. We liked it. We also had the amazing carrot cake. It was warm with a nice melted frosting. Our night at J Alexander's was excellent. Had a nice experience at J Alexander's. I will give it a 6. I ordered a prime rib medium on a hot plate. I will say I know most places don't know what that means so when the plate wasn't hot I wasn't pressing the issue. What I am pressing is that I left around 6:30-7p. I mistakingly left my to go bag. Someone took it to the front . When I called back they had already tossed it But when I called to rectify the issue they gave me and entire new order to go. What a wonderful start to the weekend by going to J's. We started off by sharing the redwood salad and it was excellent - the chicken in it was really good- you could order this as your meal and be satisfied. We also went with the crispy shrimp appetizer and this is filling as well so to the sauce - but it's so tasty I definitely say to try it out. For entree I had the French dip and it was cooked to perfection and the horseradish sauce is a must get with this - so good! We also had the full slab of ribs and these were cooked to perfection BUT we weren't a fan of the bbq sauce - it was too sweet. The fries here are really good and I would skip the coleslaw. I haven't been to J Alexander in a while but today's visit is why I returned. Max, our server, was a delight. I ordered the salmon and it was so tasty. This place is very nice. Has a huge bar which is where I sat because I am I am dining alone. I Just had the filet kabobs. Probably will NOT order these again. I requested them to be cooked medium rare. What I got was medium to medium well. I have never had a tough filet until tonight. It was tough to cut and to eat. The vegetables on the kabob were not evenly cooked. They ranged from raw to mush. Very disappointing for such a high rated restaurant. The bartender took great care of me. He was pleasant and was quick to welcome me and serve me. The only downfall, he asked me how was my dinner, I said it's ok in a dissatisfied tone. He restated what I said and I replied with the same dissatisfied tone that it was ok. He left it at that. I am not complaining about his reaction because I have a cardinal rule to never send my food back to be replaced or expect to not pay for my dinner as long as I can eat it. I just know to never order steak from this place again. Sorry I did not take a picture of my dinner. Do I recommend this place, yes, great place for a date night. We ordered 8 meals from this restaurant and had it delivered to the hotel. The Chicken tenders and French fries I ordered were fantastic! Everyone loved their food, but we were disappointed because they didn't send any utensils or napkins with the delivery driver. This restaurant is not "cheap" so it was frustrating. Solid experience here. A modern, stylish and sophisticated full service restaurant. Great ambiance delicious food and professional friendly service. Came here after Christmas shopping and ordered the baked goat cheese and the Hong Kong shrimp for appetizers. Both were absolutely delicious. Had the Hyde park chicken sandwich and that was very good as well. My friend had the chicken Milanese which I tried and it was delicious. I will be getting that next time. Only thing I didn't like was that they didn't have a single Christmas or holiday decoration up. We were looking for a vibe after Christmas shopping and they fell short on that. No effort to partake. I recently came back to J Alexander's after a (probably) 10 year hiatus. It was just as I remembered it. Dimly lit, pretty busy, but food and service remained consistent! My husband and I shared the French dip sandwich and redwood salad. Both were awesome. The meat on the sandwich was super tender and went great with the horseradish dipping sauce and au jus. Pear martini is well balanced, delicious, and worth a try. Key lime pie with espresso is a sweet and savory treat - another must have. Other menu items such as burgers, steaks, and fish is hit or miss. Crispy chicken platter is worth a try so is the pasta soup. The service is typically very good and attentive. So I was boring and just ordered a club sandwich which was fine but I got a side of vegetables instead of fries and had the bartender pick for me she got me the broccoli was freaking amazing! Like I should have just ordered a huge plate of it. I don't even really like broccoli all that much but in any case it was the highlight of my day which I suppose is actually pretty sad. This is a reliable outpost of that great brand. service: Bar staff was busy, but professional. Food runners were super polite. We had a reservation and hostess canceled politely when we got seats at the bar. bar: My Bulleit Rye Manhattan ($16 as of 02/2024) was fantastic and with the correct Luxardo cherry. Typical great wine list of all J. Alexanders. food: My wife always gets the Thai Kai ($19) and this version is exactly like all others, which is to say fantastic! I ventured out and tried the Hong Kong Shrimp ($18) as my entrée. Although touted as an appetizer, this was a great dish! details: The place was crowded on a Saturday night. Reservations recommended. Stopped by this restaurant because it was close to the hotel I was staying at and I didn't even do any YELP research as I normally do. I just saw the exterior of the restaurant and instantly knew it had to be at least decent. To my surprise the interior was very nice, a professional intimate setting. Pricing was not bad at all and the food was outstanding. I ordered grilled chicken and coleslaw. I'm a stickler for sides and the southern coleslaw was sooo good. Reserved a table for my office Christmas Dinner for last Saturday for 6:30. We went there for the prime rib & it didn't disappoint. The staff was quick & friendly. My husband & I arrived around 5:45 & I informed check in that we were there & would be at the bar. While at the bar the manager came over & informed us he gave our table to a walk in because they called to confirm & we didn't answer. Needless to say we weren't happy & when my boss got there, he wasn't happy either. The manager tried to accommodate us. Was going to sit us at separate tables, which we didn't want. I believe once he was told there was only going to be 5 instead of 6, he sat us at a booth & put a chair at the end. He did provide a couple of free appetizers. When I got to work on Monday, there was no message or text from them as the manager had stated. A reservation should only be canceled by the person who set up the reservation or by the restaurant if the people don't show up on time. Never heard of a restaurant giving the table away just because you didn't answer the phone to confirm! read more
