I don't know whether Caldwell's is a restaurant or a bar because when we were there it seemed everyone was standing up, talking really loud, with kids screaming? shouting? and sports on the TV. There were a few people sitting at tables but nobody was eating. They handed us a menu and then I thought, ah, it's a restaurant. We ordered coffee and an apple tart. They told us, it will be a few because they have to make coffee and then I thought, oh, it's a bar. At one point, we were still waiting on coffee and I thought we should just leave because the wait staff never came back and it was getting louder. Then they brought out a tray of food for a table who had been waiting there and I had thought they were just there for the drinks. I thought, that's a really long time to be waiting on food, but, yes, it's a restaurant. Shortly thereafter, they brought out our coffee and a warmed apple tart with a big bowl of ice cream. It was really good, way better than I had been expecting! Maybe they were short staffed, or maybe the people standing around being loud had just finished dinner. This restaurant is located inside the Embassy Suites in Deerfield Illinois. I am trying to do the Keto diet so I requested to have the wings plain and no sides or sauce. The wings are cooked perfectly, not burnt or greasy. Chicken is moist. The restaurant is comfortable, offers the usual hotel restaurant fare, but the food is good. The service is great also. If you are lucky enough to be there on a night when Heather, the bartender, is working, you are in for a treat. She has a beautiful smile and welcoming to everyone. She is attentive to all customers at the bar AND the restaurant. She is a talented bartender who I enjoy watching her do her thing. There is a manager's reception from 530pm to 7pm. The restaurant and bar is the most busy at that time, so if you are wanting a quiet dinner, come after 730pm. read more

So this is a hotel restaurant in the Embassy suites in Deerfield, Illinois. I would say the ambience is lovely and the service was excellent. The staff was very attentive and the food was actually pretty good. I ordered a simple hamburger with rosemary fries and although it lacked a little seasoning with a little salt it was fine. After quite the long day of travel I really didn't feel like adventuring outside the hotel so I'm glad that they had really good food to take advantage of as an option. read more

I really like the burgers and ahi tuna salad. The service is also really good. Especially, if you get Anna. She is very nice and helpful. Since Anna has been working there for a long time, she always has great suggestions. So Babes is awake at 3am one night, randomly buying Groupons, and she decides to buy one for this local restaurant, Caldwell Grill. Oh course she does not realize it's at the Embassy Suites. Shoulda cashed it in when we found out where it was. However, we foraged over to the Embassy and gave it a try ..... This is a hotel restaurant for captured clients who can not leave, like those visiting Walgreens Campus. It is a culinary torture. Babes, had the "recommended" walleye. More breading than fish, obviously purchased pre-breaded and frozen. I had mommas favorite meatloaf. I think they made it in a 2lb coffee can, cause that was the shape of my meat hockeypuck. These entrees were $26 and $23. $10 more than one would find at Dennys, and not as good. The service was disinterested and could not give a damn. Babes is on Groupon restriction for a month. This Embassy Suites GM should be damn ashamed of himself. read more

This place is not good. The food is very mediocre. Maybe same quality and taste as a restaurant like Applebee's caliber? This is the only restaurant in the hotel Embassy Suites, so if you stay there, you'll probably end up eating here if you don't want to drive out or get delivery. I had their burger, which was nothing special and over-cooked. I've had the seared ahi tuna, and I could tell some of the pieces were bad cuts because they were veiny and too chewy. I've also had the chicken wings in the spicy garlic flavor. Again, nothing memorable and very average (or below average?) The desserts are roughly the equivalent of buying something (over-sweet) in the frozen section of a grocery store. Pretty pricey too. Service was nice. I would not recommend this place unless you were too desperate or lazy to get delivery or drive out. read more

I never get a steak when I'm out to dinner. It's not cooked right or it's a terrible cut. I asked my waitress for a recommendation and she said offered the filet or a burger. I've had lunch here and thought it was okay. Last night we decided to try the Sunday night special. We had to ask for the special menu ( 3 course meal for $15). Apparently, even though it's advertised, it's a secret. The waiter was surprised we knew about it. When it's on the website? Service was the poorest I have ever experienced. We waited for menus, water, bread, even the appetizer! There were 3 servers. The female ignored us completely. Even when we tried flagging her down. This isn't the biggest restaurant so no reason for her not to see us. The two other servers were nice but so slow!! The place was not crowded so I am not sure why service was lacking. The food is average tasting. The prices are okay for the area. That being said, there are many good places within a 5 minute drive of the Embassy Suites. Next time, I'll try them. There is a new executive chef and let me just say, it shows, for the good! The food has taken a turn now to farm to table and it is beyond creative, yummy and enjoyable. The menu also changes up by season. If you are seeing a review from over 6 months ago, ignore it. It's a whole new place now. The staff has always been pleasant when we have eaten here and they have an amazing selection of cocktails that pair very nicely with you entree. Here's the bonus, locals. This hidden gem is nestled in a hotel, which means weekends is less crowded then during the week. They do take reservations and even have a very good children's menu. Tried it out with my colleague after work. The bar and restaurant sits inside of the center of the hotel where you can overlook t from all the floors. It was a nice intimate setting. It has a sense of business feel to it, but it is appropriate for casual dining. Most of he people there seemed to be either hotel guests or nearby white collars stopping by for a drink after work like us. Service was very good and we were pleased, but we appreciated the happy hour and daily specials more than anything. The food was pleasant, although I can't say too much because we only got the wings and Mediterranean platter, but what I had was par and enjoyable. But hat being said, for four beers and two appetizers, our total bill with top was 40 dollars. Very affordable and a good place to stop by in the area, especially given the limited options. I had a Cadwell's Grill Groupon, so Mrs B and I came last night for dinner to check it out. First of all, the Embassy Suites Hotel, in which Cadwell's is housed, is tucked away a bit south of Lake Cook Road, adjacent to the Tollway Spur in Deerfield. You may also have trouble finding it because it has an itsy-bitsy sign just off Lake Cook Road that only an astute eagle-eye like me can find. Cadwell's is inside an atrium-style hotel, and is just beyond the hotel check-in desk. It is surrounded on all sides by the hotel lounge, breakfast room, elevators, and other busy activities that defy the concept of a quiet, moderately upscale spot (which, I think, it aspires to be). We arrived a little after 5 pm on a Saturday night, and a few diners had just begun to drift in. We were seated promptly, and were provided menus. I ordered a half-chicken dinner, and Mrs B ordered Walleye (not from the movie). We also opted to patronize their salad bar, which cost an additional $5/person. The salad bar offered a variety of lettuce styles, vegetables, side dishes, and the like as well as soup, bread, fruit, and brownies (for dessert). I found the salad bar to be satisfactory, but not outstanding, because it did not offer as broad an assortment of side dishes as I would have expected. While we were visiting the salad bar, there was a commotion in the atrium at about 5:30 pm. We saw dozens of kids running up and down the ramp that leads into another part of the atrium. Other invaders swarmed into the area from the nearby atrium elevators. The older ones walked and were a bit slower than the kids. We could not see where they were going or what they were doing - but they seemed to be eager to get wherever they were going. It was not a party, wedding, bar mitzvah, or any special occasions like those. Our meals were delivered 20-25 minutes after ordering, and we were pleasantly surprised by the nice presentation and balance to the entrees. My dinner included some broccoli, and the florets were dyed different colors: blue, yellow, red, etc. The half chicken was also accompanied by scalloped potatoes. I enjoyed my meal and asked the waitress to box up the leftovers for our consumption the next day. Ditto for my wife. While eating dinner, Mrs.B said she thought our waitress was French. According to her, she thought the lady had a Gallic accent. I said I thought she was German. Now, we seesawed over this matter for a long time: maybe 25 seconds. In order to resolve this dire matter, I asked the waitress whether she was French and German. HA-HA, I won!!! She said she was Polish, and everyone knows that Poland is closer to Germany than France. The service and meal were very nice, although the place is a bit noisy; and I would recommend Cadwell's for a moderately upscale dining experience. As we picked up our "doggie box," we checked out the atrium, and we learned why there was a hustle and bustle an hour earlier. Ends up that the hotel breakfast room is used for a "happy hour" from 5:30 to 6:60 or so every night. They serve popcorn, beverages, and the like. The kids must have been ravenously hungry. As you Chicagoans know, the poverty-stricken North Shore kids are terribly underfed and undernourished, and this was their only meal of the day. My family and I recently stayed at the Deerfield Embassy Suites where Cadwell's is located and decided we didn't want to leave the hotel for dinner so we wandered down to the restaurant to check things out. My first thought from looking at the menu was that we are going to pay a premium price for wanting to stay in. $14 for a burger, $8 for kids mac and cheese. Yes.....these are premium prices for this area but we went ahead hoping the food would be good. Unfortunately I was very underwhelmed with the food and even more so with the service. Our server Jessica was more interested in closing down the salad bar and her tables than she was in serving us. We arrived about 45 minutes prior to close and it seemed like her main goal was to get out of there ASAP. The burger was plain, dry and boring. We had a Margarita flat bread with very wet can chewy dough (maybe the kitchen was in a hurry too), and our sons $8 mac and cheese was just so so and a pretty small portion, especially considering the price. I will say though, if there was one highlight, it was the Thai spicy buffalo wings. While also ridiculously over priced, they were near perfect with very crispy and crunch skin with very moist and tender meat and a perfect coating of Thai sauce. An order of the wings cost more than my burger, but I wish I would have doubled up on the wings and skipped the burger all together. They really were that good. It is doubtful that I will ever return to Cadwell's again, even if we do stay at the hotel. With not so great overpriced food and poor service, I will take a drive down the street to the many other restaurants in the area next time. read more

That chicken was completely frozen before they heated it up and put it on your plate. The chicken was absolutely dry. The only thing that made up for it was the mashed potatoes! You're crazy dude with a capital C. C-r-a-z-y. Additionally, their bar wouldn't take credit card! They had to go old school and do one of those carbon copy scratcher things. We eat here approx twice a year on Wednesdays because they had excellent prime rib. Well let me announce to all this food has changed. The quality beef I buy at Marianos is better than the prime rib we ordered last night. Hello what about seasonings?? Any available? Restaurant taste, zest, but want something. I was appalled at the quality is f this tough prime rib, you couldn't spare the tiny asparagus, and you forgot to salt the outside of the baked. Ok I wan great and you weren't even on. This place is hidden from the main road and inside thd middle of the hotel. The prices a fair for hotel resturants and the staff is very friendly the lunch menu is short and offers variety. I had a salad and ordered a burger which you can build your own burger bacon is only an extra dollar so it had to go on. It came whe way i ordered it with a descent amount of fries. Burger was big and filling also the salad was good as well and came before the burger the dressing tasted like it was made in house vs store bought so it made the experience a bit better. I'm not sure what all these bad reviews are about. It's marginally overpriced, but it's within the hotel. My food was all very good, burger was delivered as ordered (medium) and on time. And while $9 for a kid's item is insane, if an adult orders a reasonably priced item the kid eats free. Beer choices were also good. read more

We always stay at this embassy suites once a year around spring break so the kids can go swimming. We usually eat at Cadwell's because we don't want to leave the hotel. The place is very consistent at being just average at best. The food quality seems good but the food never comes out just right. I had to send my burger back twice because it was so undercooked and cold in the middle. When it finally came out correct it was good and so were the other 5 burgers our party of 11 had ordered. The kids food for some reason came out 10 minutes after the adult food was served which was very disappointing. And the poor waiter was by himself and waiting on all the tables that were there at the time. read more

Never again. All you can eat tacos come in servings of three tacos. All three tacos added together with out the shells makes 3/4 of one regular taco. We were a party of four. We ordered two Saturday Special Prime Rib dinners, one Slab of Ribs, and one huge, juicy, delectable Burger. Also had the Pretzel Bites and Fried Calamari for appetizers. ALL DELICIOUS. Martinis good. Bottle of wine good. A great experience all around. It's in the Embassy Suites Hotel, nice seating. The menu for Lake County's Restaurant Week was absolutely delicious! The menu was created by 2 of the incredible Chefs there -- Charles and Maynor. We were so impressed with the dishes that we had to ask! A variety of options for each course and everything that was brought to our table both looked and tasted great.
