Once Upon a Deli - Raisin bagel with strawberry cream cheese, pre-cut into 2 halves. So good!

This was the first time that I went to Once Upon a Deli.  It's located in a strip mall just 2…read morestores to the left of Dairy Queen, which I had patronized many times over the years.  Somehow I had never noticed OUAD.  I am so happy that I finally found it! Today's visit to QUAD served 2 purposes.  As my AA miles were about to expire, I went on the AAdvantage Dining website to find a restaurant that is affiliated with the program, so that I could spend some money there so as to earn some miles before the deadline, in order to prevent my hard-earned miles from expiring.  That's the main purpose of me going to Once Upon a Deli! Of course, I went there also because of the food!  The deli was clean, and seemed very well-stocked and carried a great variety of deli food and ingredients.  The staff were very friendly and helpful.  I ordered the food to-go.  It was in the early afternoon, and I was delighted that they still happily made me an All American Breakfast Sandwich. You can pick any ways for the eggs to be cooked, and the kind of meat and cheese.  I had sunny-side-up eggs, sausage, and Swiss cheese (they ran out of Mozzarella cheese as it was already after one O'clock) on an all season bagel. There was so much yummy food!  The staff told me that they left the sandwich opened in 2 halves because the eggs were not fully cooked. That was pretty thoughtful of them.  I also ordered a raisin bagel with strawberry cream cheese. It was toasted to perfection, with a nice crispiness on the outside, and the right kind of chewiness inside. That's what a perfect bagel should be!  It had a slight sweetness because of my fruity choices.  The bagel was big and was packaged very well. I read that people had driven long distance to OUAD for their bagels.  We are so lucky that it's only a 5-to-6-minute drive from home.  I will definitely come back for more bagels.  We will try more different items from their vast menu too!  Next time, it will just be for good food, and won't be for AA miles!

The sandwiches were just okay. Pretty expensive, but every place is these days. For me, I would…read moretake a pass.

Comes with Russian dressing on the side. The regular size is huge. We shared one and took one home. The pickle is pretty much a cucumber. We also got the key lime pie. Outstanding. Also got the New England Clam Chowder. Wonderful. The service is quick but getting the sandwiches takes a little time to put together. After we got it we understood why. I have had the pastrami on rye previously. Very good. It is a beautiful restaurant with seating but most order to go. A great deli experience.

I was extremely disappointed in our experience at brunch today at Max's Deli. Not only was the…read moreservice poor, our waitress was indignant and the owner was completely out of line and yelled at my mom (who is 80 and goes there weekly) when she confronted him about the service. It was so classless and honestly he should be ashamed of himself. My family met there at 1:00pm, it was Sunday and they were busy. The waitress was stressed, understandably, but that doesn't excuse the rudeness that transpired. It took her 30 minutes to take our order; there's no reason for that. The kitchen was backed up, I get it, but when my mom confronted the owner at 2:05, and said we had been there for an hour, he called her a liar and yelled at her. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THAT!!! Instead of that he could have just said that he would check on it- he literally could have said or acted any other way than the way he did! We got our food shortly after and the waitress seemed to be a little nicer at this point. The owner came over to our table as we were finishing up and I told him that he had no right to speak to my mom that way and his behavior was totally inappropriate; and it was! He kind of chuckled and gave me the "thumbs up" as he walked away. I have never quite experienced anything like this before. It's one thing to have poor service, but to have an owner behave the way he did is something else completely. We will never go back there again! Obviously if I could give this 0 stars, I would!

When looking for a place to sit, the entire restaurant was empty and we wanted to sit on the side where there were booths. However, we couldn't sit there because the section was roped off and it looked like the employees were using the space for themselves since a cell phone was plugged in and sitting on the table. So, my friend and I picked a space on the other side of the restaurant. That's when we noticed how dirty the place was to the point of it being disgusting. The napkin holders were covered in dust as were the edges of the seating areas. The floor was covered with dirt and crumbs. There were even cobwebs under some of the chairs. We decided to stay since catching up with each other was more important and the table itself seemed clean. The employee brought out our food, which I forgot to take a photo of since I was creeped out by the condition of the place. Although my veggie sandwich was good, my friend took one bite of her soup and it wasn't even warm. We will not be returning to this location.

The pickle looked like it had been sitting at the bottom of the jar for months and the Mac and cheese was cold and only partially full. I can't believe I paid extra for it! The sandwich was alright, but the quality of the meat was not great. Many better options in the area.
