Since I self-order from the kiosk, I can't comment too much about the service -- though my order is prepared fairly quickly and efficiently here everytime I order. I enjoy going to this Panera spot as the store overall looks nicer and feels cleaner than some of the other locations I've been to. I'm not a huge fan of the location, as I feel there's other spots in the shopping center that make getting in/out easier - but this isn't a deal breaker. It's always a good day when the office caters in Panera Bread. When there are meetings and "important" people in the office, we, the "commoners" are always the beneficiaries. There were leftover bagels and pastries from the morning and leftover sandwich boxes from lunch. I always make sure to grab my favorites. If I could rate this location zero stars I would. I ordered a loaf of artisan ciabatta bread. When I got home, the loaf was sliced in four pieces and sliced open. I phoned the store and spoke to supposedly the manager on staff, Ian, a total joke. I cannot begin to tell you the attitude this kid had. huffing and puffing the entire time he was on the phone. He had the nerve to say they slice the bread because they need it for sandwiches. If an order comes in for a full loaf of bread, and they don't have one, they piece it together (see photos). What??!! I have never purchased a loaf of bread cut in four pieces and sliced open. When I asked if you don't have a full loaf, why not just tell me or cancel the order. When Panera was in highland Park prior to COVID, my family practically lived in the restaurant. It was fairly new and they had a commitment to no artificial sweeteners or additives (some great teas in their machine with natural sugar), no antibiotics and free range. I was really impressed with the direction they were going. In addition to my family being there frequently, I work out the highland Park rec center 5 days a week and at least 3 days a week would stop off at Panera for a sandwich or soup or something. There were times during the day I would slip into Panera, open my laptop or phone, take advantage of the free Wi-Fi and get quite a bit of work done. The staff was always warm and courteous. Not so much anymore in Northbrook. I have no idea really why the highland Park location closed. Maybe the rents went up, because the place always look busy to me. In October of 2024 I find the portions are a bit smaller, the quality is no longer the same, and the prices of escalated which is a no-win combination. From highland Park we still go to Northbrook for pickups, but only when they offer a free sandwich with the purchase of one or reduce price on something. Five-stars for the really nice new building/location down the street and around the corner from their old location. The new location is open for business! We stopped in tonight to check it out and pick up some of their pastries for dessert. Though I don't know if I'll be a regular patron of this restaurant, since I think the food is a bit overpriced. I do like coming in for the baked goods. Their sweets and breads are where it all started for them. Pastries are always consistent and fresh. The decor... The biggest plus is that there is no carpeting like the old restaurant and lots of light. There is a nice variety of seating, from counter seating, to mini bistro tables, booths, and in the back it's nice and swank with some fancier booths with tall backs for private conversations. The artwork is contemporary and refreshing, and there is an area where you can plug in your order to take it to go (you know those germy ordering stations). For the cold season they have a fireplace in the back, and for the warmer seasons there is a nice new patio option. I have to admit the outdoor patio might actually get me back there in the warmer months. Self serve tea bags and coffee. Service... We were there an hour before close, and there was literally no one who greeted us. I don't remember getting a "hi" or "thank you" and that will be their downfall. Something to improve upon for sure. I was excited to see a new Panera location opening nearby, optimistic that the new venue would help correct some of the ongoing service issues at the previous location. Unfortunately, my friends, we have put lipstick on a pig. It's fancy lipstick -- I'll give you that -- but it's still a pig. Service is painfully slow. There seems to be an attempt to remedy this with self-serve kiosks where you can order via touchscreen. When I visited today, only two of the four kiosks were working and the line was backing up to the door. There's no clear order to the line so gluten-seeking mayhem ensued. Also, this location doesn't have the "order from table" functionality via app that so many other locations do. Coming soon? Maybe. The design of this store seems to be an afterthought beyond "Make it contemporary!". Let's take the beverage station as an example. It is situated right in the center of the main portion of the restaurant where one would otherwise assume a line could ago (see above). Coffee on one side and cold beverages (iced tea, soda, etc.) on the other. Alright, sort of makes sense. But there's no rhyme or reason to which condiments are on which side. There was sugar on the side with the cold beverages but I wanted sweetener, which meant inserting myself into the ever growing line of people trying to order. Maybe when it's not lunch time, it's less of an issue? None of the staff seemed to be engaged in their work, made obvious by the looming piles of plates. Also, the trash and dish area is a confused mess. There is a sign for plates. Alright, got it. There is a sign for Landfill (subtitled "Everything else"). Alright, got it. But there's no sign for recycling, which seems to be an obvious miss. Also, it's unclear if they really want the dishes on the countertop or if the bus tubs in the cubby are the preferred destination. I'll give them points for the atmosphere. It's a nice place to sit for a bit, thought the Internet was slow. I was trying to stream music via YouTube while responding to emails - nothing requiring major internet speeds - but it was laggy. Much better than the old location on Waukegan! It's COVID, so I haven't eaten inside yet, but I've ordered ahead for pickup and delivery and also gone through the drive through and all fine. Much better parking situation than before. The delivery driver didn't follow my instructions about where to leave the food, so that was a little annoying. But they've always gotten my order right, so no major complaints. At the end of the day, it's still a Panera. Pretty predictable. And sometimes that's just fine. read more

This is one of my favorite Panera Bread locations. The staff always goes above and beyond and is always extremely friendly. The last time I popped in here, I was with the little girl that I watch, and one of the employees helped carry our food to our table, which I found extremely helpful as my hands were full enough with her being my shadow all day. Super impressed by their new vegan options. Huge fan of the lentil quinoa bowl and all of its salty kale goodness - even if you're not vegan, skip the meat one day and give it a try (or keep the meat as they have the chicken option as well!). Panera has finally rolled out delivery! So I decided to give it a go. I went to there website and started building my order. First of all, I had no idea you could customize your sandwiches online, which is something I like. I placed an order for a steak and cheddar sandwich and customized it with extra vegetables and different bread. It came with chips and I also ordered a rainbow cookie to go with it because their bakery section is usually pretty good. Delivery time from their website was 30 - 40 minutes. I ordered around 3 PM in the afternoon and it came in around 20 - 25 minutes, which was pretty quick considering a lot of times the drivers tend to miss the office building they are delivering in. There is a delivery charge of $3, so order accordingly if you do not want to eat the delivery charge. It also wasn't during the lunch rush. The food was still very warm, which I appreciate as their are times where I've ordered elsewhere for delivery and the food was not hot. Overall, I am impressed with Panera's new delivery and it's cheaper than the UberEats booking fee of $5. I was in Michigan and had a Take sandwich and loved it. I picked up one Sunday pm around closing. I got the sandwich home and it was small and dry as a bone. No sauce, no cheese and totally tasteless. At twelve dollars for a sandwich, I expect perfection and consistency. Wendies and Burger King serve a better sandwich. Horrible customer service. I paid 20 dollars for 4 items, but they only gave me 3. Once i asked for a refund or for the manager I was not helped. I ended up paying a-lot of money and never even receiving my food. Staff does not speak English and the entire kitchen is filthy and poorly run. The dishes given to me still had food crusted on them and there were flies buzzing around in the kitchen. I would not eat here again. Other Panera locations have been some of my favorite places to eat or to hang out and drink teas or smoothies. This was my first and last time ever dealing with this location. I had to order on-line for delivery, and I will never do that again from here or any location. I understand it isn't the store's fault that the web site was tedious to use, or that I didn't see any place that I could have specified that I needed utensils, and it assumed that I didn't. It also didn't offer any opportunity to request any salt and pepper packets, nor butter for the side order of bread that was included with the "pick two" meals. The web page kept refreshing in the middle of my trying to select items and customize the ones I could, or request additional items. Nor is it their fault that the Door Dash delivery was terrible and the driver didn't deserve the tip that I already added to the order. The tracking didn't notify me until the driver had already left the paper bag on the wet ground, so I didn't even have a chance to meet him or her to prevent it. I hold the store responsible for my overall dissatisfaction with the order. They left out the side order of bread that was supposed to accompany the soup and salad "pick two" order. The cup of Thai Chicken Soup was a watery broth with only a few little pieces of chewy rubbery chicken and a couple disproportionately sized strips of tomato or red pepper that all the flavor had been soaked out of. Similarly, the half Asian Crunch Chicken Salad had only about four little pieces of chicken, and it would have been better if the cup of dressing were about 50% larger. I had requested the salad customized with Grape Tomatoes, Grated Parmesan Cheese, and Sesame Seeds, that it seemed that they didn't add at all. I also requested Olives and there were four of them that I found. It was impossible to stir in the dressing and mix the ingredients in the salad container without them spilling over the side and making a mess. The half Mediterranean Veggie sandwich was poorly put together, and most of the Cucumber, Onion, and Feta fell out in the wrapper along with some of the Tomato. All the greens were bunched together toward the middle of the sandwich rather than spread evenly across it. The hummus wasn't spread across the bread, and got messy on my fingers. The fruit cup wasn't worth the $2.19 that they charged to substitute for a piece of bread or an apple. The cup of Turkey Chili was the only part of the meal with which I was really satisfied. Most of all, as a consumer, I feel taken advantage of because they charge so much more for each of the items just because they are delivered, and then they charge a convenience fee, and the $1.00 delivery charge, and try to guilt the customer into tipping the driver as well. At least the order was delivered in about 40 minutes like they estimated when I placed it, but that seemed like a long time considering that it was less than a mile away. I might still frequent some of my previous Panera locations in person, but I won't bother coming to this store and I won't ever order their delivery again unless they change their pricing and the delivery partner. read more

Went there last night and pulled in to the lot to park. We see a young girl sitting at a table looking through her phone. She sees us pull up. As we get out of the car, she gets up and goes to the back. We enter restaurant to order some soup and there is no one there. We can hear people in the back but no one comes up to get our order. She was hiding back there! After a few minutes we left. As I get back in the car I see her peeking out the little round window to the kitchen. Will not be back! Close the doors, you don't even want customers. As for Panera in general, drove up to Bannockburn and had a GREAT experience. Go there and let Deerfield wither away, they will anyway. read more

I also like the fact that you get an option of bread, apple or chips with your sandwich selection whereas Corner Bakery doesn't. Our order was taken swiftly, but it was mass chaos to get it. The lady putting the order together and no idea what she was doing and was calling out the wrong name on the wrong food. Even after us patrons were telling her whos was whos, she still didnt know what was going on. I think our food sat up there for 5-10 minutes while she attempted to figure it out. This Panera has by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I called as there was a mix up with my order. The manager was very rude and was interrupting me every time I tried to explain my situation and I ended up hanging up as I was driving and wasn't able to give her the information she was demanding from me. I say "demanding" because she was making me feel like I was lying about an order I placed in and made me feel like I was trying to get a free meal. When I called back again I was on the phone with another lady who kept telling me my order wasn't there for 5mins just for her to finally confirm my order was there. She then proceeded to ask me what I wanted her to do about it. I do not know the companies policies or what they do when situations like this arise as I'm not an employee there. I was highly disappointed in the gaslighting I experienced as well as putting all the blame on me without a solution in the end. I'm still out $20 because of this. This location is only minutes away from my house, but if I ever choose to go to Panera again, it will definitely be at a different location. Read your reviews ahead of time. As other reviewers have noted, Panera does not have always have good value, so I hesitate to spend money here. Today I came for lunch around noon and got the "you pick 2" with the green goddess chicken salad, cup of creamy wild rice soup and a side of French bread. Everything was tasty and I felt like it was a good amount of food for the money. When I get a sandwich as part of "you pick two" I'm always leaving hungry, but this combo was great. Folks at counter were friendly and even though it was a busy lunch hour I got my food in 5 minutes and there was plenty of seating. A group of moms came in with toddlers and the staff and a customer worked together to put tables together for them-a nice feeling of community. Also while I was there my "table neighbor" made a suggestion to the manager who came by clearing tables and he offered her a substitute for her salad on the spot-a nice gesture which you don't see everywhere. I generally love Panera. I'm a soup person, and their soups are excellent. But the experience I had at this Panera a while back is worth mentioning - it was so bad I considered boycotting the company for a while. I came in to the Panera one day around 3 pm or so - I had driven all the way from Skokie because I used to like this particular location - and it wasn't busy. I ordered my food, sat down, and had a pleasant lunch. Then, just as I was about to leave, I decided that I had a craving for a smoothie. So I walked back to the cashier - still no other customers in sight - and proceeded to ask a couple of questions about the smoothies and desserts. All of a sudden, the manager, who was conveniently hiding behind the barista somewhere, looms over his employee and proceeds to - I kid you not - YELL at me for wasting the employee's time while other people are waiting to order. I was speechless; I turned around to see who had crept up behind me, and there was nobody there! When I pointed this out, he only seemed to become more enraged and told me to leave. To this day, I have never received such bad customer service at any restaurant worldwide (and I'm from a country known for its nonexistent customer service). I don't care if he was having a bad day; there is absolutely no excuse for his behavior. Furthermore, when I attempted to contact Panera about this issue, I got an email response assuring me that they would address the issue with the manager (I want to say his name was Greg or Gary or something). I waited for weeks for the card they promised me, and it never appeared. In short, I've been afraid to go back to this location for fear of getting yelled at again.
