A spur of the moment dinner decision lead us to try out this place. We've passed by endless times and have wanted to try it out and finally got the chance. Walking in on a Sunday evening I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was Kids Eat Free night (Saturdays and Sundays). So we got a free kids meal for each of the adult meals we ordered. We ordered two pick 2 meals, the portions didn't seem smaller because there were two items (which sometimes I feel the portions are small at like a Corner or Panera). One pick 2 had the Italian (the half sandwich alone was enough for the meal) and the Black Angus club. Both sandwiches were decent sized and tasty. The bread was nicely toasted and even the wheat bread on the club wasn't that bad either. I'm usually a white bread only on certain types of sandwiches, but this club passed the test. The kids meals weren't all that bad either. One we ordered the roll up with a side of fruit and the other had a grilled cheese with a side of Mac and cheese. The portions were kid sized. The grilled cheese though I'd say wasn't that greasy. The Mac and cheese wasn't all that appealing looking but didn't taste that bad. But hey both of these meals were free so a win in my book and the kids seemed to like them. So overall a decent place to grab a bite and an added bonus of you have kids in tow on the weekends. Friendly staff and clean space, we will likely be back for another visit sometime, especially with all those items on the menu.

Came here for lunch yesterday. Overall it was a good experience. I decided to go for the Black Angus King Club. Ordering a king means double the meat and it really is a gigantic sandwich. Definitely will fill you up. The sandwich as a whole was good. Roast beef was tasty and the other ingredients seemed fresh. Would get it again. I decided to upgrade my side for the sandwich and went with Mac n cheese. It was alright, but I was really disappointed with the amount I got especially in the size of the cup it came in. Barely even half fill. Overall though the service was good. Friendly people at the counter and they brought the food to my table in a prompt manner. The Sweet Ice Tea was solid. Definitely would get that again on its own. Place was well kept and clean. Plenty of seating here from booths and table options. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Plenty of parking here, and a drive thru option is available here.

    BLT+A

McAlister's has a nice broad menu, options aren't super interesting, but good stuff all around. I got the BLT+A with potato salad. It was excellent and exceeded my expectations. My wife got a salad and my son got pizza which he rated 3 out of 3 stars. Outstanding friendly service as well!

If I didn't like supporting local joints over the chains I would come here more often. The service has always been very helpful. The sandwiches are pretty darn good and the baked potatoes are HUGE. It's in a funky location that can't really be seen from busy Lake-Crook road in front of the Home Depot. Yes I said Crook, if you live here you'd understand but I digress. You'll find a better corned beef sandwich at the local deli's in the area but for variety of the menu and service I give it four stars.

The GOOD: Big roomy place with no crowd at 6:30 in the evening. The iced tea is excellent and the strawberry mix just enhanced it. So too the Lemonade tea. The potato salad is the best store-bought I've had;I'd easily stop in on the way to Ravinia and take-out enough for a picnic. I was suspicious of the "Ro-Tel" cheese nacho dip but it was tasty even if the chips had enough salt to float a cruiser. The BAD: The young lady serving us either had other things on her mind or trouble taking and then keeping orders straight. I had a grilled chicken sandwich that had obviously been microwaved so the bread was limp and tasteless. My companion's Chef's salad was similarly limp and uninteresting and the honey mustard dressing so hot it left her tongue burning. The UGLY: How do you turn pickles tasteless? I'll come back and try one of their spuds...or just enjoy the potato salad. But this won't replace Panera as my go-to deli.

    Southwest Chicken Avocado Salad! Awesome!

This place has incredibly good sandwiches fantastic salads including the Southwest which is one of my favorites an excellent baked potatoes stuffed with all the goodies you generally love to put on a baked potato. They do a tremendous lunch business and dinner business and the nice thing is they actually bring your meal to the table. And you actually get to eat off of real silverware. The service and the food are both incredibly good. Food extremely fresh and delicious. The service is extremely attentive to all your needs. Most locations I've tried are all identical to this location, however this location is definitely my favorite.

My experience with this location was not good. We placed an order online. It was placed a little over an hour before the scheduled pickup time since I was heading to the suburbs for an errand and would pick it up on the way back home; pickup time was 8:30. My errand took a bit longer so but I arrived around 8:40 for pickup (at Once Upon a Grill; they must get it a lot because they pointed me to the Deli). When I got to the Deli and let them know I was picking up an order I placed the man looked confused, asked if I placed an order, then walked down and looked at something and said to give him a few minutes, during which they cooked my order. So the order placed an hour before pickup was 20 minutes late because they don't check their system. I learned later that they open at 8-about 40 minutes after the order was placed--but whatever system they use has controls for when to take orders and when to stop online order taking. If they're going to allow folks to place orders before the shop opens for pickup after, they need to either update the schedule for the online ordering system to not accept orders before opening, or they need to look and see what if anything has come in. Really disappointing because this made me running late for work. And it wasn't helped at all by the attitude of the folks working there. Not a sorry, not an excuse or explanation, nothing. And even with that indifference I was going to buy a dozen bagels and some cream cheese, but the guy just tossed my order on the counter when it was done without a word. So, I left. There are better bagels elsewhere anyway.

Today's visit to QUAD served 2 purposes.  As my AA miles were about to expire, I went on the AAdvantage Dining website to find a restaurant that is affiliated with the program, so that I could spend some money there so as to earn some miles before the deadline, in order to prevent my hard-earned miles from expiring.  That's the main purpose of me going to Once Upon a Deli! Of course, I went there also because of the food!  The deli was clean, and seemed very well-stocked and carried a great variety of deli food and ingredients.  The staff were very friendly and helpful.  I ordered the food to-go.  It was in the early afternoon, and I was delighted that they still happily made me an All American Breakfast Sandwich. You can pick any ways for the eggs to be cooked, and the kind of meat and cheese.  I had sunny-side-up eggs, sausage, and Swiss cheese (they ran out of Mozzarella cheese as it was already after one O'clock) on an all season bagel. There was so much yummy food!  The staff told me that they left the sandwich opened in 2 halves because the eggs were not fully cooked. That was pretty thoughtful of them.  I also ordered a raisin bagel with strawberry cream cheese. It was toasted to perfection, with a nice crispiness on the outside, and the right kind of chewiness inside. That's what a perfect bagel should be!  It had a slight sweetness because of my fruity choices.  The bagel was big and was packaged very well. I read that people had driven long distance to OUAD for their bagels.  We are so lucky that it's only a 5-to-6-minute drive from home.  I will definitely come back for more bagels.  We will try more different items from their vast menu too!  Next time, it will just be for good food, and won't be for AA miles!

The corned beef was good, but they asked me if I wanted it on Rye or a roll and I asked for Rye. Unfortunately, I took it to go so by the time I got home and realized it was on white bread, which in all my years I've never had a corned beef sandwich on white bread. The sandwich I got looked nothing like the sandwiches on their website. The website shows large portions of corned beef, and other meats, that was far from what I got. I usually enjoy having half the sandwich now and half the sandwich for another meal. Let's just say I ate the corned beef!! I ordered a side of coleslaw and had two bites of it and realized it may have been sitting too long. It was definitely not coleslaw that I am accustomed to from a deli. Overall, the service was fabulous. The people there are very nice, but this sandwich shop is expensive and doesn't really give you what you are expecting.
