Of the different spots to get a healthy salad nearby like Panera and Cafe Zupas I'd say sweetgreen is probably the healthiest though it doesn't have as nice of seating as the other options, and a bit more limited selection of menu items as they focus on giving the freshest salads with quality sourced ingredients, but fewer options to choose from as a result. Fortunately, if going with friends that are looking for other options there's plenty of different restaurant options in this area of Deerfield. The bowls are filled pretty generously with a good amount of protein. Flavor combinations are good, probably the most savory feeling of the different similar concepts available. Service is quick and friendly, and prices are reasonable. Parking can be a challenge at times in this busy shopping center, so it's not a bad idea to get carryout outside of normal meal hours. Sweetgreen had been on my list to try for a while. The number of restaurants that serve healthy food is limited. Sweetgreen serves only salads. Their menu has a lot of choices. I got the barbecue chicken salad while my husband had the harvest salad. Both salads were big and had lots of fresh ingredients. Everything was crisp and flavorful. I suggest getting the dressings on the side so that you can control the flavor. You could even see the ingredients being prepared. I enjoyed watching the greens they used being pulled off the branch. The salads were good but were too big to finish in one sitting. I hope that they add a half salad option to the menu. The servers were very nice and friendly. THAT SAID, the order system is a series of boobie traps with no ability to contact a human being or change an order even ten seconds after it is placed. In one case, the system accepted an order for a location which was closed; In another, reordering a previous selection sent me to the "pay" screen without allowing an opportunity to set the pickup time. Sweet green is great for dietary allergies, but a bit expensive. I went to sweet green because I was watching my carbs. I got a custom salad with salmon and blackened chicken and green goddess dressing. The salad was about $25 and did include two proteins. For a fast/casual restaurant I feel that this is a bit pricey and would prevent me from going more often. The staff took great precautions to make sure items were kept separately so I would eat here if I had dietary restrictions as well. I do not like their lack of fountain drink machine and/or ice. They have water but it's room temperature or a few different canned and bottled beverages. I often think of Sweetgreen as a salad healthy restaurant that people go to in LA. Once I saw one here for the first time I was so excited to try it! We went for dinner, and it was still pretty busy- but nothing too crazy as we were still greeting by the friendly staff and were able to get out food and leave within 10 minutes. Sweet green gives the option of pre-curated salads of which you can modify to what best suits you, or you can build your own. We decided to try the crispy chicken salad; it was delicious. Only downfall for me was the surprise pickles, as someone who isn't a huge fan of pickles... I missed that it was on the menu. But once pickles were picked out (best part of about eating salads is that you can take things out!) it was divine! My husband and I also decided to try the Cobb salad, but substituted the balsamic with the green goddess ranch dressing and added roasted chicken! We highly recommend this option, but make sure to go light on the dressing as a little goes a LONG way! What was also exciting was to see how eco friendly their packaging and products were! Sweetgreen opened by my house so I stopped by for lunch. I decided to give one of their monthly special meals a try - the chicken and sweet potatoes dish. It included bbq chicken chunks, wild rice, sweet potato cubes and a kale, cabbage and carrot salad. Overall it was good and I appreciated that it was healthy compared to other lunch options. So I ordered online and set up for a 6:30 pickup time. I received an email the order is as completed which meant it was prepared way in advance so it sat there for longer than I was hoping for. But when I arrived it was ready and waiting on their shelf. I made some modifications so I opened up the two orders and both were correct. Both bowls were tasty and the dressings were really good. One complaint was we added spicy broccoli to both and what they put in both were mainly stalks that are really meant to be discards and not used. I've heard raving reviews about Sweetgreen so I was happy to see one was opening in Deerfield. I decided to stop in late on a Saturday night, and it was pretty empty inside. It seemed as if most people place their orders on the mobile app for pickup. I liked being able to see the ingredients for my first time in. I created my own bowl with a mix of greens and wild rice. 4 toppings came with it, and anything extra was an additional fee. I especially liked the sweet potato and broccoli toppings. I paid extra to get goat cheese and avocado and loved the creaminess they both added. The only downside is that all the extras add up quickly so expect the salad to be around $16. For starters, they should have chosen a different location with better parking. Ordered two salads, the new Hummus Crunch Salad and the Harvest Bowl. The salad preparer told me that they were out of the breadcrumbs that were listed as ingredients for the Hummus Salad. I asked if they had a substitute, but there was nothing comparable. My order was to go, so I had the dressings on the side. My plan was to eat one salad same day and the other for lunch the following day. The salad preparer reversed the dressings which I didn't realize until the next day. Overall, generous, filling salads and the second salad held up for the next day. I don't care for their seating, too open, sterile, it's ok. I've been looking to try sweetgreen since one of my friends in the city kept telling me that's where all her lunch money was going. sweetgreen hasn't hit my side of the burbs yet, so this is the closest one. Normally I wouldn't bother with a downtown area, but this location has a spacious parking lot so you won't have to fight for parking. When we went in, it was super quiet and empty. We took our time looking at the menu because I went in not knowing what I wanted. You can build your own, but I opted for the chicken Caesar. The salad was relatively large, but oh wow. This was hands down the most expensive salad that I have ever purchased. I'm not really sure that it was entirely worth it - I didn't have any crazy ingredients. I honestly wish they had different sizes, because some of the calorie counts on the salads are HIGH. It's also worth noting that for whatever reason, they were out of some of the standard ingredients that were included in our salads (like croutons). A tale of two visits: It was the best of times; it was disappointing. I was excited to see this new outpost of the healthy chain that basically amounts to a Chipotle for health conscious professionals with a fat wallet. First time, I stopped in and ordered the winter seasonal warm miso bowl from the counter. Kale, roasted miso vegetables, blackened chicken and a delicious dressing made my heart sing. The price hit a sour note: $18 for an entrée and a tea. Knowing that the seasonal items were disappearing, I wanted that tasty bowl again. This time, I used the app to order the same thing. I work a few minutes from the place and made my way over. The website indicated that my food would be 20 minutes to complete. I watched as others who hadn't used the app to order stop in, have their bowls made, pay and leave while I saw my order ticket just sitting there. Fair enough, I thought. This is the business model, although I would have appreciated an option in the app to schedule a pickup time. What disappointed me this time was a meager portion of kale leaving the bowl less than half full, and worse, no chicken at all. Still delicious, not nearly as satisfying. Green, but not so sweet. A little bit on the pricier side but you're getting quality ingredients and a much wider variety than most places. Great for vegans and vegetarians as well. This place is new. I just went last week to try their food. I try two salads and both salads they did not have all the ingredients available. They said they had to cut it up or either make it. It was disappointing but it has potential. The two salads I did receive was pretty good but I wish I knew that they didn't have all the ingredients I would've just waited.
