I enjoyed my time here. I was able to make myself an Arnold Palmer, so that's already a fantastic start. The food was really good, and the service was fine. I went during quiet weekday lunch time, so I was able to sit in and read a nice book while eating some good BBQ.

I want to update my review to 5 stars after the delicious catering spread we served at our Bourbon-Rye-Scotch whisky tasting. We had to provide a substantial meal prior to the tasting, right? We dug into tender beef brisket, pulled chicken, vegetarian green beans, mac and cheese, and the piece de resistance, warm peach cobbler with whipped cream. Our order, we placed the week before, was ready for pickup, packed nicely with plates, napkins, utensils, serving implements, bread, and several flavors and spice of bbq sauce. Our guests enjoyed the tender brisket and smoked pulled chicken. The beans, without bacon, were still very flavorful with onion and seasoning. Though hardly anyone touched the bread, they raved about the Mac and cheese. This was a good and hearty option, our guests enjoyed the food, there are plenty of leftover, and best of all, after a busy week, there wasn't much for me to do. And now on to the veritable whisky river.

Solid choice for barbeque in the area. The restaurant itself is clean and decorated nicely with plenty of space to sit down and enjoy a meal. Service is quick and friendly from the counter though it can be difficult at times to find the correct person when they call out names for the order. They provide lots of different sauce options here though I would like a bit more contrast between the different options as the combinations feel a bit similar for me -- generally skewing a bit more towards the sweet side overall and not too acidic. You can find all your favorite meats here and the common sides, though there aren't really options that feel particularly special here. The prices are fairly good here, in the mid to lower side -- with plenty of combination options to keep the price per person lower as well. The food itself is fairly enjoyable. The meats are fairly tender though it can be a bit dry without barbeque sauce. The sausage for me was smoked nicely, though I didn't find the smoked turkey to be as good. The beef brisket was quite tender though not very juicy. The sides like the hush puppies and texas toast were done fairly well and complimented the entree nicely. Overall, reasonably priced choice for barbeque with a good number of meat and side options available. The flavors aren't the most amazing, but good enough to satisfy a barbeque craving.

Huge shout out to the lovely Deerfield City BBQ cashier, she was so helpful to everyone in line and took the extra effort to made sure they took advantage off their City BBQ Awards and coupons! I came during their 25th anniversary celebration and picked up their special pork and chicken sandwich. Definitely a solid BBQ option for the area, I've been here a few times and it's always been good. I also like the nice variety of sauces. Carry out was pretty fast even without doing an online order ahead of time. Even if you don't come here often it is still with it to get the app to take advantage of the deals they do offer. An easy location to get to as well a its on the corner of a strip mall with multiple entrances. The restaurant also appeared clean and they had a good number of staff to help with the dinner rush.

Charging $7 for bread is ridiculous on its own, especially when the food quality doesn't match the price. On top of that, an automatic 18% gratuity was added for a party of four, which felt excessive given the experience. When I called to address these concerns, I was placed on hold for 15 minutes and no one returned to the call. When I called back, the staff was extremely rude and told me I would have to call again. Between stale-tasting food, unreasonable charges, and poor customer service, this was not an experience I would repeat or recommend.

This really needs to be addressed. It wasn't just the one I killed. Now for the food. We got the three meat combo with brisket, burnt ends, and pulled pork. The brisket was really good. It was on the dry side but it was still very good. It didn't have much smoke flavor. The burnt ends were just ok. There was no smoke taste to them and they kind of just fell apart when you picked them up with your fork. The pulled pork had a nice smoke ring on some of the outer pieces we got. This had more smoke flavor than the brisket and the burnt ends. This was very good. For sides, we got the coleslaw and smoked baked beans. The coleslaw I think is just a food service already prepared coleslaw. My bet, it wasn't made in house. Although it was still good. The smoked baked beans, they are made with what I can tell are three different kinds of beans, maybe a little brisket or pulled pork, and the sauce tastes like their original barbecue sauce. Now I liked them, but again, I don't taste any smoke. The restaurant is really cool. It's decorated with a lot of bbq memorabilia. Besides the gnats, it is really clean. Bottom line is, I'm hoping this was just kind of an off day for them. The food was really good with the potential of being great. In my opinion, the meat needs to have more natural smoke flavor. That's what bbq is all about. We will stop by again when we are in the area. We will definitely try it again.

If it's not obvious from this review and ALL my restaurant reviews the kitchen is not where I shine. I called Hofherr to ask if they could cook my turkey and while apparently they do that it was too late to put in the request. Good to know for next time. Wednesday morning I joined the rest of the North Shore to pick up my raw turkey. I ran into a friend while waiting for it who is more of an expert when it comes to making turkeys and she asked them to give me gravy, a turkey bag (apparently easier and lessy messy to cook in a bag) and some directions. The next day I followed their directions along with some help from my bestie chatgpt. I stuck it in the oven and crossed my fingers we wouldn't be going without a turkey this thanksgsiving. We had a little mishap when the thermometer melted into the turkey (oops), but besides that it really wasn't too difficult of a process. And while I had trouble eating a turkey after seeing it raw my family was thrilled that it was perfectly moist and praised my turkey making skills. I did have a few bites and did think it was pretty good- and i dont even like turkey. I would definitely get my turkey from here again, although next time i'll be ordering a cooked turkey out of convenience. But for those of you who like to cook a turkey I recommend them!

Even if we don't consider its rarity, Da Local Boy is a winner in every category. The prices are very fair for the enormous portion sizes, the decor is fun and appropriate, the service is friendly, and food is phenomenal both in flavors and textures. The only possible criticisms are that the space is a bit small for how popular this spot gets, and the parking in the area can be a bit limited around popular meal times. The food here shines, making it worth a special trip -- both again for the rarity but also the quality. For me, the poke nachos are a must order item, just the perfect mix of large chunks of tuna with super crispy wontons, fresh avocado, and a good helping of sauce. Amongst friends, we've agreed that this is a must order item. The huli huli chicken is also unreal in flavor and texture. The Kimchi was some of the best I have had...and the garlic chicken wings were fabulous. The key feature of their system is ordering based upon pictures on a tablet. It seems that portions pictured are typically enough for two people to share. There were several dishes I ordered that brought larger quantity than I thought was a single portion...so if you are eating alone, take into consideration that you may end up with more than you might have expected. ONE last note...the Miso Soup was excellent.

I love a place that delivers consistency. Every time we come Tomahawk BBQ, it does just that. We…read moreknow exactly what to expect -- and the experience and food have been solid each visit. My family and I came to celebrate an early Valentine's Day and treated ourselves to a nice dinner. I highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time. We booked ours and were promptly seated at 6:30 PM on a Friday night with no wait. Don't you love when things run smoothly like that? We ordered multiple rounds for our family of 4 using the iPad and through the night, I'd say the foods arrived under or around five minutes. There's a 2-hour dining limit, and we used all of it. The iPad conveniently shows a countdown timer once you're seated, so you know exactly how much time you have left. It's especially helpful toward the end when you're deciding whether to squeeze in one last dessert order. I also really appreciate the transparency of their ordering system. The pricing is clearly displayed on the iPad as you select items, so you always know what you're ordering and whether something is included in the AYCE menu. On one of our other visits, I accidentally tapped an item à la carte that was outside of our AYCE menu and saw the charge immediately on the screen. I notified management right away, and they removed it promptly. This kind of system helps prevent surprise charges at the end of the meal. At the end, they print out a detailed receipt of everything you ordered -- it almost feels like a "trophy receipt." It really reinforces how much food you get for the price and how far your money stretches here. Also note that gratuity was not automatically added (for our party of 4) so we were able to write in our tip. There's a wide variety included in the AYCE menu. That said, on this particular visit they had run out of a few items -- calamari rings, hot and sour soup, house salad, and a couple others. It wasn't a huge disappointment, though I was personally looking forward to the hot and sour soup. I did notice they've added some new appetizers like fried chicken wings. They also offer familiar kid-friendly items such as fries, chicken nuggets, and fried dumplings, which is great for families. Overall, the selection is plentiful -- plenty of beef, chicken, and seafood, more than you can realistically eat. Throughout your meal, staff will offer to change the grill (which is definitely needed after a while since it gets dark and charred). They spray some kind of a protective layer on it - my guess is so the meat doesn't stick. There seem to be two types of grills they rotate between -- one for general meats and one better suited for thinner cuts. My personal favorite is the Hawaiian beef bulgogi with pineapple. I also enjoy the spicy calamari and mini sausages. The garlic shrimp was another standout -- large and very flavorful. You really get your money's worth here. This has become one of our go-to spots for family celebrations. My husband especially loves it -- and that says a lot. We've been to many Korean BBQ places, and this is the only one where he's consistently satisfied with the meat quality, marinades, and sauces. He's very particular about flavor profiles, so that's high praise. The table height is also ergonomically comfortable, which really matters when you're cooking and eating for so long. The tables themselves are large and spacious, making it easy to hold the numerous small plates that come with all the different ingredients. We enjoy the ambiance here as it's trendy and well kept. Service is attentive -- staff clear plates promptly, offer grill changes, and are easy to reach when needed. You can also request assistance directly from the iPad which makes things seamless. It was cool to see they still have claw machines in the waiting area, which is a fun bonus for families. On our way out, they also had toothpicks and candy available. Small touches like that are appreciated. This visit was interesting because they had someone walking around offering complimentary printed photos with a Tomahawk-themed template. Additional prints with a frame were available for purchase ($20). Lastly, I wrote in my review a year ago and suggested a loyalty dining program. Since then, we have dined here a few more times but I haven't heard anything yet on this visit. We would still love for them to launch something! :)
