Mostly I love this place, although since they stopped using bulk breakfast sausage for the sausage gravy, they haven't been a favorite of mine. Today I wanted to try the gravy again and also ordered biscuits. Separately. Which was (or should have been) clear from the way I ordered it but oh well the gravy was ladled over the biscuits and was the same diced link sausage which is inferior to bulk sausage in the gravy--as any random Southerner would know.) I had to throw it away because the gravy I disliked was drenching the biscuits. Not an earth-shaking problem but I need my comfort food from my native South and this ain't it. I haven't been to a Denny's in years. My breakfast plans fell through today so I stopped in here solo. The dining room has been remodeled with new booths, tables, flooring. The counter area looked refreshed, with gleaming silver tiles and the Denny's logo in bright red neon lighting. The menus were new and chock full of attractive photos. Who are you??? The menu is as you remembered it. Grand Slams, Moon Over My Hammy, etc. Some new additions like cold brew coffee and strawberry shortcake French toast. TLDR? Grand Slam with strawberry crepe was fine. Scrambled eggs were hot, hash browns were crispy and seasoned. Bacon was a little tough. Crepes was warm and filled with a cream with strawberries and syrup on top. Breakfast was ok. The dining room was not crowded, there was plenty of space. The food is as you remember. No Michelin stars but ok. The servers were friendly and food arrived promptly. New hours: 5am-midnight daily. read more

Today, we had Alejandra as our waitress; we've had the pleasure of having Alejandra serve us before and I should have taken the time to write a review then. She is just wonderful...kind, courteous, hardworking, great suggestions, call backs are numerous (never waiting on more napkins, refills...) - she does her job with a smile on her face and genuinely enjoys her work. The Denny's in Highland Park is by far the best omelette restaurant in the city, better than Country Kichen and the Original Pancake House (which had an epidemic of salmonella and its eggs shortly after it opened some years ago). Strongly recommend the Ultimate Omelette which contains an impressive combination of meats, cheese and vegetables. The plate comes with hash browns, which if you ask to have them well done, they will be done to perfection. Finally, you can get free pancakes to go. read more

Stopped here on our way to Milwaukee after spending Thanksgivings in Chicago. My wife and I order the veggie omelette with pepper Jack cheese with a side of bacon and sausage. The side of bacon tasted horrible, no flavor, they should consider a better bacon brand. The sausage link while small, were tasty. I don't understand why Dennys gets a bad name, I love the place. I hate the Dennys in Milwaukee because it attracts the wrong crowd. We only eat at Dennys on vacation, my overall experience here today was great! You kind of know what to expect when you go to Denny's for dinner on a Saturday night after 10pm. You expect...to expect...a little bit of everything. We took our kiddos to see a Bulls game waaaay in the city, and of course they were still hungry after the fact, so after our city excursion we headed home and headed right to Denny's, because it's the only late night stop open in our community. Aside from the person living and sleeping in their van in the parking lot (since Denny's is open 24 hours), the restaurant inside was filled with a group of high school kids, couples, and one other family. As far as the decor, Denny's is a little outdated, and to be honest it's probably the grittiest stop in Highland Park (which means not bad and a little nostalgic in feel). Our kiddos each downed a country fried steak meal, I ordered off their deal menu. For $4 I ended up with a biscuit topped with sausage gravy, two scrambled eggs, and hash browns. My hubby ordered the build your own breakfast for $7.19. I'll be honest, that seemed like an incredible deal. His came with egg whites, turkey bacon (I tried it and it was crispy and truly delicious), multigrain toast, and they made plain grilled potatoes for him (without butter), and his entire meal was made in Pam. Yes, you can eat healthy at Denny's. The service was outstanding. It took us a little long to order, because we were four tired hungry customers who where overwhelmed by a large menu. Our server was incredibly sweet and patient with us (sorry I didn't get her name). We never felt rushed, she made a pot of fresh coffee for my hubby, and she was super accommodating. We dropped about $45 there, so it's not something I'd do on a regular basis, but if we all could agree to eat off their special deal menu (which is awesome BTW), I'd suggest we go back more often. read more

I have been eating at this particular Denny's, since the mid '80s, and it was hit-or-miss for years. But, in recent years, this Denny's has improved by leaps-and-bounds in service and quality. As well, Denny's menus have also improved, and overtaken ihop, in my opinion. They have many diner staples like burgers, sandwiches, breakfast, and fried goodies - but they've added a whole bunch of finer meals to their breakfast, lunch and dinner selection. They've added many healthier meals, and heavily-customizable options as well. They regularly update their menu, adding some tasty and novel dishes. The wait staff is always VERY friendly, attentive, and accommodating. The whole restaurant, the bathrooms and the parking lot are well lit and maintained. With or without a coupon, Denny's is a great value, and the quality of this particular location is sure to keep my friends and I coming back. read more

Alexandro, my waiter, was EXCELLENT! He served me 2 days in a row (on Friday, February 17th and Saturday, February 18, 2023). Alexandro was super nice and attentive to me both days that he served me. He brought my food promptly and exactly as I ordered it. He checked in on me as I ate and was really nice and positive. He even held the 2 doors open for me to assist me when I was leaving since I am walking with a walker due to an injury. My dad used to bring me to this location when I was a kid and so I decided to take mine here on this recent Xmas visit home. Aside from the absence of a smoking section, not much had changed. They even had the same crappy coin claw machine thingy with the stuffed animals that your kid always wants, but never gets and then you have to take them to a toy store to show that you're not a total jerk. (Good thing there's a Target next door) Anywho... it's Denny's. I was feeling daring and got a veggie omelette which was a bad idea. Their grits were okay. He had, (this was Xmas break), their chocolate chip pancakes and a chocolate milk and, seriously, after eating 25% of his breakfast, he put down his fork, looked me dead in the eyes and whispered, "too much chocolate." I guess he was not a fan. If you're drunk or old or feeling nostalgic, get yourself a Grand Slam or a Moons Over my Hammy and have a great time. Avoid the seemingly healthy items though please. I did not eat here. I had an Uber pick up. For a Sammy o a bit after midnight. The only person that was there was this thin bald man who couldn't handle the pressure of being alone. It was a bit busy. I got there at 12:22 along with another Uber driver picking up for Vincent. He looks at us and we ask if our orders are ready. He says he hasn't even accepted the order. Ok. It was a 20 minute drive to get there. We are waiting and waiting. After 30 minutes passes I ask if he had a chance to put in our orders yet. He states he is working on it. This is my job. When you screw with my lively hood, I do not appreciate it. I call customer service explain the situation and the call Denny's and this guy Doesn't answer. Uber cancels the call. I go on my way and get another call to the same place. I go in and notice he has paused the Uber iPad. The other Uber driver returns as well. We both got the other ones last orders that were both canceled. I call cs again to explain the issue. Now there are only 4 people in the restaurant. There is no excuse for his work avoidance. Clearly you are in over your head and cannot be left in the restaurant without direct supervision from a manager. I spent an hour dealing with this restaurant and this person. I lost nearly 30.00 in income. All because of his attitude problem unless I misread the situation and he was otherwise clearly drowning. Either way bud if you cannot handle your 4 customers maybe you should of called in extra help. Or it is time for you to find a job you will be able to manage. read more

Wait! Please, read this review before you scoff out loud again at my 4-star review of a Denny's. It's not as bad as you think. The staff here is probably one of the most attentive and friendly I've ever come across. We have a few picky eaters in our circle, and well when we suggested going to Denny's I knew it was going to be a little rough. When one of their omlette came out without the cheese they had ordered it was like a minor international incident, but the waitress quickly read the table, asked if she could help, and got the new plate out in about two minutes. AND everyone ended up enjoying their food! Shocker of the century for those guys. For a long time I tried to completely avoid chain restaurants. I still do to some extent, but most franchises are owned by individuals in the neighborhoods they serve... so I try to keep that in mind when I try a place. The food here is okay to good. I'm a sailor on active-duty in the US Navy. I am regular at this Denny's, it is close to my residence and down the street from the base at which I'm stationed for the time being. I've been here many times over the past 6 months. For some background: My mother raised me in restaurants (that she managed) for most of my upbringing. My girlfriend and I decided to get some (late) breakfast this morning around noon at this same Denny's. We sat ourselves after arriving, as the manager was visibly busy behind the register and I'm something of a regular, so I pointed and he acknowledged that's where we would be sat. Our waiter was a man who wore a name tag stating Julio, about 5'11, dark complexion. He asked what we were having to drink. Because we hadn't looked at the menu's yet and we both were just getting water having just sat down, we simply said water. We were given 1 lunch and 1 breakfast menu between the two of us, which wasn't a big deal, we just had to take turns looking at it. Some time later Julio came back and we ordered our food. For some reason Julio kept speaking over me when I tried to tell him what I would like to eat, and was speaking to me forcefully. I realized we didn't get any silverware or napkins with the food. When our food arrived I realized there was no butter on my pancakes and I hadn't been given any on the side, so I asked my girlfriend and she hadn't been given any either. The next time Julio passed by my girlfriend, she asked if she could have some more butter, to which he pointed at her toast and asked 'is there butter on the toast?', to which she said 'yes, but...' just prior to Julio standing back up, pivoting and simply walking to another table without answering her, not coming back with the butter she asked for. At this point, it became obvious to me that Julio has some sort of personal problem which is interfering with his job. I looked around for some syrup, only to find we were not given any of that either, and I myself stood up to find a manager. Having worked with many in the hospitality industry I understand the daily grind and resentment that comes from waiting tables, however the personal frustration being taken out on me as a customer was not appropriate. I sat back down after the manager was not to be found. Julio came back to the table some time later to ask if everything was fine. As both water glasses sat empty, I just looked at him in disbelief, and told him to go get his manager. He stated the manager was unavailable, and asked me if something was wrong. I looked at his name tag, and for reasons related to avoiding conflict in front of many other customers said no. When we stood up to leave I told him I was military in checkout, but there was no discount applied to my receipt. I kept a copy of it for this reason. We were given no condiments, silverware, napkins, water, butter, syrup or manager availability absent repeatedly asking for them from the time we arrived to the time we left. I'd like to know if this is usually how Denny's treats active-duty military personnel, for if that be the case, I have no interest in giving one my business ever again. If this is not the status quo, perhaps someone at an administrative level can contact me via email to discuss a solution to a meal I should not have even payed for. read more

We went there for breakfast/lunch. My daughter is vegan and ordered a club sandwich without mayo, turkey and bacon. This means is was just bread, lettuce and tomato. We asked that they add avocado to the sandwich. Without telling us, they charged another .99. I think it is wrong because the meat was removed. Also, my 95 year-old mother-in-law ordered something from the $4 dollar and she didn't get what she ordered. Unfortunately, she didn't tell us and just ate it. Overall, it was decent food and decent service with the exception mentioned above. I would highly recommend they add some vegan options to their menu. read more

My only two arguments with this location are, 1) the late night wait staff can be tediously slow at times. To the point where you start to think, maybe we should just leave? 2) Kids come in there to study which is fine, but instead of taking up at a small table they go and sit at a group table and set down their crap across all that space. Here's a bit of advice, (especially when Ravinia is going on), late night is not a good time to study at Denny's. People are hungry and are on their way over. While we wait for our food the last thing we want to hear is you bitching to your friends on your celly about the amount of noise in the room while you try to study natural science. Who studies with 6 books of different topics open, their iPod running and talking on the cell phone? Do that crap at home. We're here to eat, don't waste space. Steven is a pretty good late night server, though he's a newbie. Make sure you remind him about condiments, some nights he just forgets. Healthier meal choices (Fit Fare Meal), remolded interior & exterior, better wait staff (very hard to keep attrition down at a Denny's in an affluent town where kids allowances are twice a weeks wages), and a manager (Steve) who looks after everything with a critical-consumer oriented eye. 24/7/365 and you'll find something you can feel good about to eat. read more

We used to go there pretty often because it was close to home but never had an experience good enough. The service is slow and they tend to forget or mis-order and we switched to order take out. What made me put a 1-star today is when I ordered take out over the phone, took 5 tries to make them understand what I need. When I pick up the order, although the receipt was correct, what we received was a wrong item almost half the price what we ordered. I ordered an egg white omelet and it was swimming in so much grease that I did not eat most of it. The plate was literally covered in a brown grease from the omelet sliding around. To be completely honest, I'm extremely surprised they have not be shut down yet, especially since this location is Highland Park/Deerfield. This Denny's is a great one, I've been coming here for a few years now, always at night. (between 9pm to 2am) Not all Denny's are the same, some aren't that good, but this one is really nice! The service is fast, friendly, and never rushes you, awesome! They are cool about any special requests and I can tell that my food has been brought right away, never sitting around under the lamp. The menu seems to get better every month, they are always adding new things, including healthier items, which I really appreciate! Sure there are nights you want a big cheese burger and seasoned fries, but some nights you're more in the mood for tilapia and sauteed spinach! Lately there have been some really good deals, like for $25, my buddy and I get an appetizer, drinks, meals, and dessert! And if you find any coupons, even better! They have the best oreo milkshakes! My best friend always raves about the burgers. I've pretty much liked everything I've ordered, both dinners and breakfast items. I go different nights all the time, both weekends and weekdays, and I've never seen it crowded. Actually, it tends to be pretty quiet, you can usually hear 90's light rock clearly!
