My husband and I went here on a Sunday about 530. Thinking it wouldn't be that crowded. We were very wrong. We sat in the bar area at a table. Nobody came to us for at least 10 minutes. After finally getting the menus. We ordered two beers and a appetizer of some fancy fries as I was starved. The beers came out much later. We never received our fries. She then took our main order. Still never received our appetizer. Much much later when she finally returned with our main food And our appetizer. Who brings the appetizer out with the food?!. Beer also was a little warm, but I did not want to go back at that point cause I was just so thirsty. Service was just very poor. And I guess that's my big pet peeve nowadays Food is good though pricey but what isn't nowadays? And if you're paying for the good food you should have good service. Celebrated here with extended family and not a single order was wrong! They split the bills correctly too. Highly impressed with the attention for our group size. The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable on the menu. With such a large group we had several apps to share and what felt like one of everything on the menu. read more

Gently nestled along the west side of Waukegan Rd is we stopped in for a bite. Atmosphere very welcoming sit either in the main restaurant or the back half with open air dining and a nice big screen to watch the tube. I had filet sliders and minestrone. The filet was perfect but the minestrone was not minestrone and tasted horrible overloaded with oregano. Also at the table was a shrimp wrap and string fries which was put together perfectly. Valley Lodge has always been a favorite place of mine growing up in the Glenview area. I prefer this location over the one in downtown Wilmette, but both make a great burger. The Chicken Kabobs are delicious and so are the cocktails. Good service all of the time. I much prefer the upper bar and booth area; it's dimly lit and cozy, although this place can get busy on a Friday night and you are not always guaranteed a seat up there. The main dining room is too bright for a dinner place, if you ask me, and a completely different atmosphere from the other half of the restaurant. But there are worse things. We have gotten takeout from here many times, because the food is great and it's close by. read more

Unexpected gem in Glenview! Don't know how many times I've driven by here and never popped in. That Valley Lodge signature cocktail packs a punch. It has Chambord and cranberry juice in it, I believe. All I know is I had to hand off the car keys after that drink. I was feeling pretty good and buzzed up after downing it. A round of martinis for happy hour here would be fun. Note to self. On our first visit (walked in on Valentine's Day on a whim), the prime rib was a comforting meal. Huge serving, and I chose the baked potato on the side. Had plenty of leftovers. My husband got a pasta dish that was A-OK but not one that warranted a recommendation. The shrimp wrap was a winner on our second visit, but the homemade chips were fried in borderline rancid oil, and that didn't taste good. The saganaki prep tasted a bit off, just got more sourness than expected from the hot appetizer. Our kiddos were 2/2 in ordering the cheeseburger and fries, which was filling and hit the spot for them. Complementary bread (white and a raisin nut) offered too. Attentive waitstaff and especially bussing staff. Easy parking in the surround lot, but it fills up fast. Recommend for sure, but keep an eye on that oil they use for frying! read more

Had the Pulled Pork Sandwich with Chips. The chips were extremely soggy. They were dripping oil. No crisp to them and you could fold them with your tongue without breaking. The sandwich wasn't that great overall. Overloaded with BBQ sauce. To the point there were piles on the plate by the time I finished.. Poorly shredded, if even at all. And could tell the meat was on the dry side (maybe that's why it was drenched in BBQ Sauce). Was able to get fries instead of the chips once I brought it up to server. Fries were alright nothing great. Other people in my party didn't find their meals amazing either. Rueben Sandwich and meat sliders. Both were underwhelming and not great (from a seasoning side). Sat in the porch section. It was very invite and relaxed. Fireplace was nice and the ambiance was just right. Our server was amazing. He was friendly, kind and took care of me when I mentioned the chip issue. Overall, plenty of better places in the area that have food worth eating. The cheeseburger salad I had was great! When we have gone we typically sit in their "patio" area. But it is loud in there. They don't have anything to help absorb the sound. It makes it so that you are practically yelling at each other. The service there is good. But it's hard to hear the wait staff with the loudness of the room. read more

Always wonderful food there great comfort food and the people again are very nice. I've never had a bad meal since going there almost close to 20 years ago. A friend of ours turned us onto this place and anytime we are in the area. We always stop by. The ribs are awesome, the burgers, and just plain old comfort food, especially on a real cold day like today Valley Lodge restaurant hits the spot. I don't usually initiate reviews and usually will only write the positive ones, but tonight was so bad I feel like I need to get it off my chest. Our service was mediocre, at best, and super slow, even though the restaurant was never more than half full. Then there was a problem with our bill. The waiter went to the manager who came over with a rotten attitude and was really nasty. I don't really get it bc he did adjust the bill so why not be nice when you are doing it? It still wasn't acceptable, but it was better. We used to go here regularly but the last time, the service was also awful. That time a manager from the wilmette location called and thanked me for my taking the time to tell him and so we decided to give it another try. Now - we are done. There are plenty of places with similar food AND good service with respectful managers. We don't need to ruin our evening with unpleasantness. What you all do is up to you. read more

Been eating here for years. Food and service are consistently good and there is always good value ---until recently. Prices on regular menu and specials have soared. Understand the need to keep up with inflation ---but 2 small pieces of meatloaf for $27 is a poor value. Will be back ---but less often. read more

We had coupon that we downloaded from "local restaurants" on the AARP websight. It was 25% OFF (up Max $25 off) of the bill for the table. The bill was about $175. We were told that they are not accepting the coupons. No reason was given. Unless AARP put up this coupon without the permission of Valley Lodge, it seems they are obligated to take the coupon unless they cancel with AARP or whoever is representing AARP. read more

Greek salad is good. Ambiance is comfortable and the prices are fair. Our waiter was nice and helpful. Burger was tasty as well.

So we dined here this past March 2024 in the main restaurant with two other couples. It was loud, but manageable. We just dined here again with five other people, so there were seven of us and they sat us in the "Porch" section of the restaurant. I can't emphasize this enough: DO NOT SIT IN THE PORCH AREA It is so damned loud. It's basically a patio section that they made closed in with a large vaulted ceiling and a wall of large windows that open on one. side of the room. They crammed in a bunch of tables with the most uncomfortable seating they could find. When we were there, we were told it'd be air conditioned. Well, it was about to storm, one window was open, and it was warm in the room. We asked them to turn on the fans (which are small for the room and located way high up, so they push the air around but don't help with the stuffiness or excess warmth in the room. There was a large party with a child basically screaming her head off for the first 30 minutes we were there. SIDEBAR: if your kid is screaming, take them out of the damn restaurant. There are other people there. It's called "being considerate of others." However, it sounded like people we shouting in the restaurant. I've never said, "what" so many times during a meal. If we go back (and this experience really is a test if we do), we will NOT sit in the Porch. NOTE TO OWNER: Sound Dampening panels and flooring really helps dampen the sound. Finally decided to give this place a try after years of driving past it. The food was decent, but nothing special. What was special was the care they took making sure my dd, who has a gluten allergy, could eat safely. The server was tremendously helpful in explaining options and the cooks prepared her meal separately to prevent cross contamination. Really appreciate the care they showed! Great local place, with a Wisconsin Supper Club-type vibe. I called on a Saturday afternoon and asked if we needed a reservation if we were there by 4:45 PM. She said no, come on over! We ran a little late, and didn't get there until 5:15 PM, and by then there were just two tables left. We chose the one farther from the door, and it was fine, but next time we'll get there just a bit earlier! This place is very popular! We started with the Saganaki, which was delicious. Our server flamed it at the table, which was fun since so many places don't do that anymore. Some very tasty bread was served - several slices, each of crusty white and pumpernickel - with a nicely ample serving of whipped butter. Our choice of soup or salad was the minestrone. It was hearty and yummy. We both ordered our entrées from their Specials menu - I had the Shrimp de Jonghe, and my husband had the Prime Rib. I loved that the shrimp came with just a side of buttered pasta, and nothing else. That with the shrimp was plenty for me! There were six large shrimp, ensconced in garlic butter then covered and baked with breadcrumbs. It was delicious. Also, much to my pleasure as it doesn't seem to be the case much these days, they had removed the full shell, so no need to forage with my fingers in the garlic butter to extract the tail shells. Yay! My husband's prime rib came with green beans, and his choice of potato, which was garlic mashed. It was a huge cut of meat, and he said it was very good. I did sneak a small taste, and would've preferred a little more peppercorn flavoring, but it was very good, and served perfectly medium rare. He was happy! I had their house Manhattan, and he had a mai tai. Both drinks were very good. We were too full for dessert, but that leaves something for us to try the next time! read more

Man, this place kind of looks like a hole in the ground as you drive by, but once you walk in it's almost immediately apparent that this place is special. Great drinks while we caught up and some seriously delicious bread got us started. We sat in the bar area. The front is anchored by a great big fireplace. Hopefully next time we can sit closer to it. Our waitress was great. Kept us flowing in drinks and water as we chatted and took care of whatever we needed. Unfortunately I went with the prime rib on the special sheet and it came out overcooked. Of course they took care of it immediately, but once the rest of my party is eating I'm not ordering a different dish. But I can assure you medium well prime rib is not my thing. He said it was amazing! I had the tenderloin stake burgers and those were ok, I think the meet didn't have enough flavor for me. The food is fabulous! I have recommended it to family and friends and one had a party at your Wilmette location. The burger was GRRRRRRRRRRR8! OMG the chip french fries are to die for. So, many years ago when I worked in that area, my work friends and I would go there for lunch. Always good food and a fun sort of place. I highly recommend their burgers, so much better than the place on Lake Street which are always greasy. I can't eat them as they truly make me sick. So, i don't step foot in that place, but I am always ready to go to Valley Lodge. I had their turkey meal, OMG there was enough food on the plate to feed at least 3 people. The ambiance is awesome, especially on a nice warm day when they have all the windows open in the back area. The service is always friendly and efficient. And the food is great! Pretty large bar when compared to dining room and tables and chairs, much closer together. Their baby back ribs are good according to my husband and their Reubens are good which is what I had ordered. It's funny I have been in this area for over 30 years and this is the first time I've been here. No one has recommended this place to me before.
