Spinach & feta cheese omelette, Pancakes
Emily K.

The ideal, simple place for casual breakfast. I came here with my toddler on a whim and I am so glad I did. The staff was friendly and sweet to my toddler. We shared the spinach and feta omelette and one pancake. The omelette came with toast and hash browns that were cooked so well and had a nice crispy layer on them. There seemed to be folks in there who were regulars and I really liked that feeling. Prices are super reasonable especially for the North Shore. Looking forward to going back soon!

Northfield skillet with scrambled eggs

My colleagues and I stopped by for lunch. It's not a "classic-styled" diner. It's a regular, classic diner, which is great to see and experience. The size is comfortable and we were greeted with a "sit anywhere you like". Even though it was lunch, I ordered off the breakfast menu... because of course you would. I chose the namesake Northfield skillet (scrambled eggs, medium rare skirt steak) and a pancake side. The skillet was mostly... fine. It could have been more seasoned, but the salt/pepper were on the table so maybe it was a "season-to-taste" kinda thing. Everything was fine... it was mostly fine. My colleagues and I finished everything cause there was no garnish or flare or anything superfluous. Everything was mostly... just... fine.

This place is such a welcoming neighborhood diner. My wait staff was friendly, full of very relevant information to include they filmed an episode of a Amazon Prime show here last year, and provided one of the best recommendations I have tasted in a long time. I ordered my usual ham and cheese omelette with American fries and English muffin. I had to ask what American fries were and it turned out to be sliced potatoes served like hash browns. The omelette was fine. Overcooked for me, but it tasted right. Nothing special. The American fries (still having a hard time with them being called fries) were cooked perfectly. Some crisp areas areas and still you can tell this was a full potato this morning. They must have a master on the mandolin. I was still hungry after it all and my wait staff said "people love our pancakes". Challenge accepted! I ordered the short stack. Often with pancakes one of two things are off... the pancake, or the syrup. This was perfect! Perfect! The amount of vanilla in the pancake balanced out the maple syrup perfectly! I felt like a kid. The price for all of this is extremely reasonable. I would have paid more. I will definitely return.

Hidden gem right off 94. Clean, large menu & cute place. Haven't been here since Covid & extremely happy to return.

I made a special request during the reservation, which usually gets overlooked, so I was genuinely pleasantly surprised when they made it happen. My mother-in-law absolutely didn't expect it, and it made her feel really special. Patch greeted us warmly (I hope I got the name right!) and took great care of us throughout the evening, making sure we had everything we needed. He even personally acknowledged my mother-in-law's birthday, which was such a thoughtful touch. She was so happily surprised! The Hugo Spritz cocktails were refreshing and delicious. I ordered the scallops both as an appetizer and as my main course, and I truly enjoyed them. The strawberry chocolate cake we shared was absolutely delicious -- it practically melted in my mouth! I will definitely come back just to have it again Next time, I also want to try the burgers. The place itself is very welcoming and has this really nice coastal summer vibe. You can truly relax there, and the patio looks amazing.

We split the Angus burger and the Ceasar side salad. The burger came with an ample amount of nicely seasoned fries so it was a near perfect lunch split for two. The patio is noteworthy - it's lovely and has plenty of greenery and space. All in all a great lunch option in downtown Winnetka.

There is a small outdoor seating area which we took advantage of since we had a beautiful late-spring evening. We both got the cucumber soup which was unique and delicious. My wife got the lemon chicken and I got the crispy cod. Both were top-notch and they know how to cook fish. I had lemon cake for desert and my wife had almond pear tart. Both great. Overall, very nice experience and we'd like to try the lunch menu next time.

All the table were eventually occupied so she and her sole assistant were so busy. I think they are having staffing issues. Including kitchen staff. The service was still good, but harried. The food came out more slowly than usual and the caesar salad was awful. the dressing didn't seem like a caesar dressing and I couldn't spot any cheese. The steak frites was perfectly cooks but the fries were not the usual crispy outside. I sure hope they aren't skimping on paying their staff well to retain them. If they are skimping, they won't be around long. I'd rather pay more for my experience and good food and easy going dining experience than what we got. I'll give them one more shot before I go elsewhere. I feel so bad that I had to write this review.

I did get to try their lasagna, chicken Parmesan, southwest egg rolls spicy broccoli, crème brûlée, strawberry cake, and their skillet cookie, all of which were great! When you arrive there is parking available on the street. Walking into the restaurant you'll feel like your surrounded by plants, and you've walked into a elevated yet relaxed restaurant. For drinks I ordered the cool as a cucumber (el mayor anejo tequila, spicy agave, lime, cucumber coconut foam) and something with elderflower that changes colors (I can't remember the name of the drink). To start we order the Cauli-Wings (garlic parmesan; carrots, celery, poppy seed ranch) which were excellent and you couldn't tell it was cauliflower. Next we ordered the calamari fritti (king oyster mushrooms, pickled pepperoncini, carrots, marinara arrabbiata) which was also so good and a great way to start the meal. We also ordered a pizza which I believe isn't on the menu anymore. For dessert we ordered a chocolate cake dessert with vanilla ice cream served in the middle. Definitely recommend checking out spirit elephant if you are in the Winnetka area.
