My friend found this place and we decided to meet up here to catch up. I had an iced coffee with the barista's recommendation of white mocha and maple. So good! I also got the blueberry wild rice muffin and dare I say it's one of the best muffins I've ever had! I don't even like muffins like that. I would love to try their fry bread next time. The space overall is warm and sunny. The workers were all so nice and welcoming as well. I love that this is a community oriented place, with the option to pay it forward to elders and first responders. I will definitely be returning. read more

Food: We got the veggie garbage fry bread and it was everything I could have imagined. It was fresh and tasted amazing. I could have eaten a whole one by myself but I wanted my husband to try it too. It's better than regular pizza. I wish I could get this in California. Service: It was top-notch, the staff was super friendly and informative. They seem to know everyone walking through and I love the fact that they take care of their elders. It was super cool to hear that some of the actors from Reservation Dogs stopped by there too. This is a relatively small coffee shop that is pretty full on Thursdays and Fridays (days they are serving fry bread) during the lunch hour. Great frybread taco! I really didn't think I was too hungry but ended up eating the entire taco which is the size of a personal pizza. We didn't have to wait long. The staff was very friendly and interacted with the customers even after they had gotten their food. Laughs were shared with strangers and there a quite a regulars that make it feel homey. Its a very community driven spot. I got their wifi on my phone but then couldn't connect on my laptop. There are outlets available. I would say this is a lunch spot more than sit and work on your laptop place. Plenty of street parking as I feel the parking lot was quite small and may be hard to get out of. read more

This is a gem on Franklin Avenue. Off street parking, excellent service, great beverages and the food is better than most places. Fry bread pizza beats most of the popular Twin Cities pizza joints... they also serve fry bread, soups, muffins ..I loved the fry bread.. air pockets, light and deliciousness. Husband loved the chili. The Art gallery is an additional plus..while this is a Native area of the Twin Cities , it is nice to see non natives enjoy the food, community spirit there as well. read more

Overall (2.7 stars composite score): Decent neighborhood joint. Drinks and food are kind of average and at standard pricing. They could put in some effort into making the place cleaner. Drinks/Food (60% of 1.5 star total): .9 Stars. Latte was kind of lukewarm and nowhere sweet enough. Burritos were pre-made and microwaved. Unfortunately, the tortilla stuck to the paper and it kind of fell apart. Service (70% of 1 star total): .7 stars Employee vibes were pretty friendly, but not overly warm. Value (70% of 1/2 star total): All pricing was pretty standard. WiFi/Power (50% of 1/2 star total): .25 stars Wifi wasn't working at all. Plenty of power outlets though. Seating (70% of 1/2 star total): .35 stars Adequate seating. I liked the abundance of rail seating, although the tables were all lopsided. Atmosphere (50% of 1 star total): .5 stars. I haphazardly walked into powwow for a caffeine fix in a small coffee shop. I love this particular neighborhood and don't come here hardly enough! The man serving coffee was so warm and welcoming that I immediately felt comfortable there. I wasn't sure what I wanted to drink so I told him I wanted something with 2 shots of espresso that's hot and sweet. He recommended I try a latte with a couple of pumps of vanilla. I walked into the gallery after paying for my drink and left him to make it. This is such a tranquil place. The art drew me in and I lost track of the time. I went back to the counter and got my vanilla latte and it was honestly the best tasting vanilla latte I've ever had. The coffee shop doesn't have restrooms for the public but the gallery does have some gender neutral bathrooms with a key. Definitely recommend. read more

I hate box coffee shops, i can't stand coffee makers who would rather be referred to as baristas, i hate saying venti instead of large damn coffee and what the hell is triple venti caramel macchiato or grande hot decaf triple five-pump? Really? Just saying it makes me want to beat someone with a halibut. Among other reasons is why you won't find me at Starbucks or at any other box coffee shop. I am not spouting homilies and this is no soapbox to openly criticize corporate owned businesses; it is purely based on my wallet and my distaste for paying $7 for a medium mocha at Starbucks instead of supporting my favorite local coffee shop. Owned by a Native American and inside of the same building with All My Relations Art Gallery (which features contemporary fine arts by Native American artists), this coffee shop is not your typical dilettante hipster cafe hang out with complicated coffee drinks; it is a small communal, uninhibited shop that brings a new hang out to a much needed area. Besides the great Coffee that rivals Starbucks they have an outta this world Quiche for only $4.25, smoothies, sandwiches, signature wild rice soup and other over the counter sweets. My favorite, the turtle mocha. I love this coffee shop, besides standing in line at Starbucks and reading their seemingly endless menu just angers me, why does coffee have to be so goddamn bewildering? read more

Strong coffee, monkey bread, charming building, and family atmosphere - Pow Wow Grounds everything a person could ask for in a coffee shop. Located in the heart of the American Indian Cultural Corridor on East Franklin, this shop not only offers quality products, but it also collaborates with Native American Community Development Institute to put on fantastic events throughout the year. I've also catered from Pow Wow Grounds Coffee twice. Each time the service was incredibly fast and reliable. I have ordered parfaits, sandwiches and soup. The sandwiches were alright. But the best the things to get from Pow Wow Grounds are both the parfaits (that has an assortment of nuts and fruits with yogurt) and the hearty and savory Wild Rice Soup. Both are very healthy! I haven't had a chance to return or cater from them recently, but if I return, I know I won't be disappointed. read more

I mapped the closest coffee shop today after a long morning school thing and decided to check it out. I enjoy exploring coffee shops with my girl friends or when I'm out. I come from a background of customer service and to top it off, I enjoy food and beverages. I try not to discriminate ;) Deciding I would try this place, asked a couple questions about favorite beverages and made my choice. I decided to get a chai. I know what you're thinking..oh no not another chai person, or the opposite "I like chai too". It's my new thing to try it at different places. Next time I'll probable try a dirty chai (expresso & chai). The lady said she likes a depth charge with caramel or a white mocha with vanilla. This place's chai is spicier than other popular coffee shops and they claim customers say "it's the best one out there", (it comes in a purple container). I really like that is has a spicer kick whereas others are more mild, tastes like it may have ginger as an ingredient. For one I am a fan. The owner said he has a wild rice farm and harvests the rice he uses in his food. Of the items they make themselves was the wild rice quiche, wild rice fruit and yogurt parfait. It looked SO yummy! I was on my way to get lunch with someone, so I didn't want to spoil it. But I will be coming back to try these two. They also make their cookies and monkey bread themselves. I'm sure they make other items too, but my thoughts trailed off as I took a sip of my chai :) As for dessert I am planning on trying their monkey bread. Like I said I love food and can't wait to go back and try some new and interesting foods. The owner was nice and easy to talk to and the barista was also sweet. They welcomed me as soon as I walked in, genuinely inquired about my day and as I was being helped by the lady, the manager helped the next gentlemen. The place is small, but the windows in the front bring in a lot of natural light and the mood is welcoming and can be a place to relax but not feel like you'll fall asleep like other coffee shops. They get a four because it was my first time coming here. I like to give people second chances and we will see if they can keep up on the good customer service next time as well. read more

Awesome staff, tasty coffee! I've only been here once for a meeting, but I'm super glad it was the suggested meeting location! The barista was super friendly and helpful, and my fancy foo-foo coffee wasn't too sweet or too expensive. I also really appreciated its lack of pretentiousness. Since my favorite cafe closed (RIP Plan B), I've been a lost coffee shop soul, floating aimlessly in a purgatory of smug, (dare I say) hipster-y caffeinated beverages. But perhaps no longer! $14 for two cups of soup and a half assed sandwich my 5yo self could've made. Seriously, the soup was severed in a paper cup (size only big enough to fit a 12oz can of soda) which I finished with 4 scoops of the spoon and the sandwich was as broke as a college student. The sandwich consisted of two folded slices of Oscar Meyers turkey one half slice of Swiss, and a bs packet of mayo... nothing else. Have some pride in your work!!! However, other than that the owner was super friendly and cool and the tomato basil soup was delicious. TL;DR Overpriced food, cool owner. Great coffee shop, charming local vibe, felt very welcoming when I was in the neighborhood and found this as my go-to coffee shop. I'm not normally a big Yelp reviewer and was only in town briefly a few months back, but I still think about this place a lot because of a n interaction I witnessed between (manager? Owner?) and a couple of visitors. I don't know the full background, but a couple of people in their 20s came in, and it seemed like they were asking about how they could volunteer or provide services in the community. The coffee shop was Native-run and the two visitors were non-Native. The man behind the counter sat down with them and spent about half an hour explaining the history of the community and the reasons why it was problematic to parachute in w/o context. Was extremely kind and patient and gave them a lot of advice on doing anti-racism work. Another customer asked to join. I was supposed to be working so I didn't physically join the convo but I was pretty obviously listening and he very graciously included me a few times as well. I'm not Native and would never have expected someone to do that level of work/education (especially when his job is to run a coffee shop, not be an educator!) but the degree of patience and generosity he showed was astounding and really spoke to the beauty of this coffee shop as a center of community. read more

A great latte and delicious muffin got me started on my first day in town. The cashier/barista was so friendly and engaging with me in conversation we both almost forgot for me to pay! That was quickly sorted out and after I finished my food and drink I checked out the small gallery attached that displays Native American art. My buddy Mahad recommended it, we stopped by and it felt like a family owned cafe that puts emphasis on communal gathering. Located near the Little Earth neighborhood and inside All my relations art gallery, featuring Native American arts. It is comfy, kid friendly and serves some delicious coffee. counter sweets & scrumptious quiche.
