I am confused. Are Bluffton restaurants required to make their employees where a mask? As the server leaned in to put my plate down his unmasked face came very close to mine and vise versa. If he was not going to wear a mask I would at least try to social distance. FYI, none of the other employees wore a mask. As far as the food and drinks go, the wine prices are higher than neighboring restaurants. For instance, the Rombauer Chardonnay was $20 a glass. When traveling, I prefer to try the local restaurants and sometimes I really treat myself. I read reviews for Pour Richards and decided to give it a try. Well... the place was packed! I was hoping for a seat at the bar. The couple ahead of me said, 'good luck... if you don't have reservations...' Luck was on my side and one seat was open at the bar. I sat with some friendly locals who love the place. Steve was awesome - very personable and fun. The food and service were top notch. I had a wedge salad and the scallops small plate. And even though I didn't need it, I had to have the butterscotch (with Macallan) creme brulee dessert. The menu changes daily... so not sure if or when these items will make a reappearance. Tried this place a few weeks ago, and had the bronzed grouper. Let me tell you, it just melted in your mouth. One of the best fish dishes I have ever had. Everyone was accommodating on my wife's allergy, as compared to the May River Grill, in which they said how much of a problem it was making sure the food didn't have soy, which is my wife's allergy. Firstly, make sure you have plenty of time before going here to eat. They're busy. All the time. And they take their sweet time to do everything, and they know it (but I think that's a good thing). Secondly- don't think about skipping dessert. Ally makes the most delicious things I have ever had the pleasure to eat. Coconut crème brulee was on the menu last time and it was phenomenal. Sitting at the bar, you could see them freshly whip the cream to complement the dessert. The food is pretty good. Like most restaurants around here, it's hard to find something to eat if you're not big on seafood. But you can never go wrong with the filet mignon there. The servers know what they're doing and do a great job telling the specials. Everything is very detailed and you can tell they put a lot of love in to what they do (chefs and servers alike). It also has a very homey feel, like somehow when you walk in it's like you're a long lost friend they haven't seen in ages. I came here a last summer with my parents when my fiancee and I were engaged as a celebration and absolutely loved the food and service! I was also excited to receive a $50 gift card from my Aunt and Uncle for Christmas! However, after my parents experience last night when my mother was called a mother fucker by a patron with a connection to a staff member, I can safely say that I will be ripping up my gift certificate and never giving this place my business again. Found the local place in Bluffton. Our waitress couldn't have been sweeter (Leah) and so informative. As the menu changes each day, she was patient with a full explanation of all menu items. We opted for French onion soup(delicious), gumbo, and 2 small plate items. IT was the perfect amount of food. Lamb chops and scallops were delicious. We asked for some side spinach, which was an up charge but that was fine as it rounded out our meals. Great ambiance with low lighting and comfortable seating. read more

We're from out of town, staying with the in-laws for the holidays, and wanted to have a date night (sans kids) while we have the grandparents around to babysit. My in-laws recommended Pour Richards. Loved the decor and atmosphere immediately. The menu reads upscale American. Some Southern, French, Italian, Mediterranean influences. I was satisfied with the meal overall but I was definitely not Wowed. By the standards of this area it's probably better than most though. I ordered the Waldorf Salad, Grouper, & Milk Choc Chai Creme Brulee. My husband got the Pate, Lamb Osso Bucco, & Cheese Cake. The salad was pretty good and not over dressed -- definitely important for me! The pate was not all that good and too salty. The main courses were heavy on the salt but not to the point where I couldn't eat them. My Grouper fish was over cooked but the flavour of the dish over all (came with rice, wilted spinach, & a Mediterranean style tomato sauce) was very tasty. The lamb Osso Bucco was more impressive and perfectly cooked. Tender and falling off the bone (came with couscous, wilted spinach, and the same tomato sauce as my Grouper). I didn't try the Cheese cake but thought my creme brulee was quite tasty. It came with a little dollop of whipped cream with flambeed banana slices on the side; which I thought was a nice complement for the creme brulee. I was pretty full by this point and couldn't finish the dessert. We both had wine - I got a Portino size (1.5 glass) and hubby got 1 glass, as he was driving. The total bill came to around $150 which we thought was a hefty price for what we got and for this area. We could definitely have gone to a very fancy restaurant in the DC area for this price. Bottomline: If you're looking for somewhere to go for a special occasion or date in the Bluffton, SC, area then this place will definitely do the job. read more

Omg, last night I had the best vegan lasagna, ever! It was the perfect balance of fresh vegetables, tomato sauce, and homemade pasta that was so light it could float. I just have to comment on some of the other reviews, first of all Richard the head chef isn't there to entertain you, he is there to feed you, which he does very well. He has his favorites that go in because they are friends. If he gives them more attention it's because they know eachother and it's not his job to be your table side entertainment. Also this place should be 5stars but there is one group who is having a fit that another customer called them a mean name for complaining rudely all night. But anyway, Best atmosphere in town. Food is great, but getting to know the crew is so much fun. Richard is a hoot! Very friendly family feel. I always feel very welcome. read more

Buyer Beware (especially if you are a tourist)!! Menu does not match what you are served! I ordered a wedge salad with blue cheese and received a chopped salad of romaine and mixed greens instead. I ordered a rose wine and received a white wine and was told that it was a really light rose. Not! I held it up to the light and there is no way I was served a rose yet waitress swore it was, making me feel foolish for asking. I should have asked to see the bottle! I should have suspected something was up when I saw the small open kitchen consisted of a diner griddle which explained the greasy food. When we received the menu, it was $10 more than what I saw online even though they claim to change the menu everyday. I ordered grouper with roasted corn and tomatillo salsa with sautéed spinach and a side of black beans and also chorizo fredo for $38 (yikes, especially for its location!). What I received was a really small piece of fish with cold tomatillo sauce from the jar and frozen corn that was no where near being roasted and also cold. The black beans tasted like they were served directly from a Progresso can and sadly the chorizo fredo that was supposed to be a pilaf was just a lousy Rice-a-Roni overcooked and soggy with not a trace of chorizo (or chorizo flavor). I couldn't even eat it because it was so soggy and cold. I have eaten at other high end restaurants nearby that charged the same or less and can't compare to this mess that I was served. I hate to be hard on a restaurant but this is one case where I cannot hold back because for $155 for my husband and I, we were truly ripped off and I'm embarrassed to not speak up at the time or return our plates. They knew we were tourists and blatantly took advantage, thinking we were sucker and unfortunately I let it happen. Please watch out for this restaurant and don't be fooled by the menu!! read more

Great place with several options for your budget. We went with friends and experienced excellent service. Our server was probably the best we'd ever experienced. She provided very detailed descriptions of menu options, installing the same amount of love that I'm sure the back of the house gives to every dish. The food was excellent--we had the southern French onion soup, the spinach craisin salad, the cornbread stuffed quail small plate and the scallops st. Jacques. Just got back from great meal at Pour Richards after meeting friends from our home town, Crown Point in Indiana. Was recommended by them since they live in Bluffton. Great drinks, service, meals and dessert. Best goodie place we have experienced including Neo and Hogsheads Tavern. Would recommend highly. A visit to Pour Richard's is required when we Angelenos travel to Bluffton in the HHI area. We are never disappointed. Tonight's fare started with a deeply rich beef broth for a Southern style French Onion soup. The person scrapping off the baked-on cheese topping from the bowl with her knife was me. I think my husband was embarrassed because he offered to buy me a second one. But, I just couldn't, else I would not have had room for the "nekid" grouper, a thick piece of fresh fish charred on the outside and succulent on the inside. If I could cook it like that at home, I would, but I can't, so I don't! Know what I mean? Let's not talk about dessert because I had already forgotten my table manners on the first course. If you noticed someone licking her spoon, it wasn't me. Once again, Leah was our waitstaff. Talking food with her is, well, sorta sexy, because her menu descriptions are mouth-watering. read more

Had a fantastic dinner last night with my family, that's includes our 5 year old who enjoyed a very good wood fired pizza! Richard our server and chef Richard and his wife showed that southern hospitality is alive here in the low country. The warm greeting when we entered, they made us feel welcome and we appreciate that experience. We had a reservation for 12. It took 2 hours for dinner. We had to ask for bread at one point. We ate dinner after 10 pm. Upon leaving, we spoke with a client of the restaurant ( who had some connection with the restaurant). We mentioned that we enjoyed it but had to wait a long time for dinner. He called us mother fuckers for being impatient for food. We actually felt unsafe in the restaurant speaking with this person .Sadly, for us, out last visit there was when our son got engaged several months ago. As much as we love May River Grill, we have fallen head over heels with Richard and Ally of Pour Richard's in Bluffton. I know, you are saying right now......Bluffton, SC??? Good healthy food?? YES...and it is here in this tiny strip mall located near a car wash. I would definitely recommend ordering any specials that Richard may have for the evening. In fact, half the time, we never open the menu. The fish is cooked to perfection every time and the bruschetta is so flavorful. The only negative I have about this restaurant is that the decor is a little sparse and there needs to be more "softness" which may include rugs or upholstered dividers to create more of an ambiance and reduce the noise level. Other than this, we tip our hat and compliment the chef and staff on the mouth watering creations served daily. read more
