All I had were the grits, but I am a grit purist. They were very good, very cheesy and cooked perfectly.

I had a great time both times I've been here. Once was just for drinks, the other was for some dinner. The shrimp burger was really good, and the side of grits were delicious. The burger was just okay, and the Mac n cheese could have been better. The crème brûlée was fantastic! And the service was great. The kitchen was closed a little later than other spots in the area, so we were happy to be seated and get some food in our bellies. The bar is also nice. Oh wow. I have been here at least two times before but this last trip has changed my view entirely. I will NOT be back. First off, our waitress was rude and short from the very beginning. There was only three of us. Were not loud, obnoxious etc. so the attitude was completely unwarranted. We felt like our mer presence was annoying to her. She took our drink orders, I asked for a water she barked at me that " its coming". Ok, well you asked what I wanted to drink? It also took us 45 minutes to get our food. The restaurant was almost empty inside. The outside was busier but thats a little ridiculous. NOW, heres where it gets wild. Not only are the staff or people who work there but are off sitting at the bar chatting the entire time, they are vaping inside as well! Staff members were also in pjs while working? I'm sorry.... what???? In addition, one of the bus boys / food runners slammed accidentally into the host stand while carrying a sign. Swearing up a storm right next to our table. Just looked at us and kept going. No apology, completely unprofessional. To make it WORSE, he then turns to leave and accidentally kicks/falls into my chair as well! Enough to move my chair. It wasnt subtle. He kept walking and shouts over his shoulder, "my bad". DUDE WHAT IS THIS PLACE. The waitress saw, no one said aything to me or my table. No real apology. When my mom is relying this to my boyfriend who had been outside on a call during all this, the food runner overhears and yells at us, "I said I was sorry!". I mean it was the craziest most horrible experience here to date. WE are NEVER COMING BACK. I would never recommend this place, the food is only fine. Friendly service by Taylor. Four of us came in for the first time. Started with the andouille sausage platter with pimento cheese and bread. Fantastic! More bread was brought out so we could devour it. Two of the guys had the tenderloin sandwich with fried potatoes and loved them. Two of us got salads and thoroughly enjoyed them. I love that I could take my little doodle to the outside bar to order takeout. The live band was great!! The bartender was very friendly. The food was awesome. We heard live music from the street. A young girl and young man ware singing and he was both singing and playing an instrument. We ordered wine and some appetizers. All was good, and a nice Sunday afternoon break. However, when we got the bill the wine was $13 a glass any not the $10 stated on the menu. We did not compliment. The wait staff were very nice. My husband and father got the prime rib melt and it was the star of the show. I got the salmon on their tavern salad and it was raw when it came out. The Calhoun Street Tavern is a great location in this quant town. The service and food were good. But I am getting SOOOO..... tired of restaurants and coffee shops with their "hidden" fees. Be forewarned that, even if you use a debit card, YOU WILL BE charged a 3.5% "processing fee." Actually, according to a Supreme Court ruling it is ILLEGAL At least they did not suggest a 22%, 25%, or 30% tip as well. CST, please reconsider this undisclosed markup. Dined earlier this week, still reeling about my experience. Came in to grab food and drinks, and the food and service was excellent. I got their greek salad with added steak and it was great! I wish I could give a higher rating, but we had a bad encounter with a young man, I assume a host or busser. He chose to flick ice at our table, and upon requesting him to stop, he gave us dirty looks. I'm not sure if he was off, because he was sitting down at a table, but I'm near positive he worked there. We come to HH once a year and last year we decided to make a reservation here for the first time. When we got to the restaurant the hostess turned us away even though we showed up at our reservation time, followed by her telling us the kitchen was closed. So of course we were super annoyed after traveling all day and having to scramble late to find somewhere to eat. Not very hospitality like. However, this year we decided to give them another shot and I am so glad we did. Our server was absolutely delightful and just so kind to us. The food was out of this world. We got the kettle chips to start and we both got the double burger. I was nervous to get the double burger thinking it would be huge and too much food but I ended up eating the entire thing, the patties were super thin. THE MAC AND CHEESE THOUGH!!!!!! I could eat mac n cheese literally everyday and I am soooooooo picky when it comes to others, and I COULD EAT THE MAC N CHEESE HERE EVERY DAY! It just reminded me of home, my dads mac n cheese. Yelp is asking me to touch on three things: food, service, and ambiance. Ok. The food? I got the chicken and waffle. The chicken was tough and couldn't have been over a 4oz cut. The waffle was small and bland and chewy like an old piece of gum is. This dish was $20 with no side item included. Fantastic. The ambiance was great, if "half the staff on their phones playing games" is your kind of ambiance. It's not mine, so I did not enjoy it. Lastly, service was excellent. I asked our server for bottom shelf liquor as to not break my bank and help stay within my budget for the meal and was served $14 drinks without my knowledge. Great work. Second time here. First time was outside with a band and dinner. Very solid food and service that time. The following time we went sat outside on a weeknight anticipating ordering dinner. In fairness they had a bit of a rush outside of people coming in all at once. We ended up getting a couple of appetizers and taking off as our waiter was a bit awkward (although nice) but seemed overwhelmed. I would go back again but with some hesitation. This review is for dinner on a slow Sunday night. Though they were in hand reservations were not needed and with the weather being kind sitting outside was an easy choice to make. The first ding is the waitress not knowing the list of draft beers very well and, in general, I am always disappointed that a 'bar' with seasonal choices on the fixed menu does not have an actual list of those choices available separately. Anyway... beyond that the second ding was not really having any kind of appetizer on the menu to make the wait for dinner less obvious. Outside of that the food turned out to be really great. Place was clean & had nice ambiance and service was friendly & attentive. She had the prime rib sandwich with collard greens and I tried the tavern burger with their signature tavern fries which our server suggested. Both were very good...one of the best burgers I've had and crispy tavern fries. Sorry, forgot to take pics of our food. Will definitely return next time when in Bluffton. read more

A hip little spot in the middle of Bluffton with two flat screens, a lovely L shaped bar that seats about 10 and a great patio courtyard on the side. So glad we stumbled upon this little gem! My Chop Salad greens were perfectly fresh, and obviously not from a bag! The salad was completed with cherry tomatoes, quartered boiled egg, red onion, pine nuts and sherry vinaigrette. For an up charge, I ordered grilled chicken, and it was cooked perfectly! Also, important to note: Sunday Brunch with Live Music 11-3, Monday - Friday happy hour 4-6. Okay so let's start with positives. Taylor our waitress was sweet and attentive and kind. She made good food recommendations. I had the chicken salad with the potatoes and it was delicious. My husband had the fried chicken sandwich and it was also great! (8/10 according to him). Our drinks were great and service was basically fine. Now the reason we're giving two stars is because the atmosphere and the staff and like "bar friends" were a damn mess. The bartender clearly had friends there and they all looked high and one was vaping. And one guy dressed like he was straight out of 1997 was just being loud and hanging at the bar. Then there are just random people in the kitchen and like going around back behind the bar. One guy comes in off a motorcycle with his helmet and is all sweaty and just like goes back behind the bar. Like there are so many people that are like loud and weird that are "working" there. If they aren't working there then it's bad also. Also there was a huge pile up of drink glasses on the bar. Someone needed to run those through the dish washer. It looked really unprofessional. Lastly, we also had that weird undisclosed charge. We noticed it but it wasn't itemized and we had no clue what it was for. It wasn't a lot but after reading some of these other reviews seems like it's illegal and unilaterally problematic. We won't go back. Poor Taylor seems like the most mature one of the bunch. read more

Good place for a drink, but...! My wife and I went for lunch and were promptly seated out on the patio. First impression, the patio needs a power washing, and there were quite a few empty tables that had not been cleared. Also, the table where we were seated had broken glass under it. When brought it to the attention of the nice hostess she said she would get it cleaned up: NEVER HAPPENED! Which brings me to our food service. After about 20 minutes our server came out of hiding and she finally took our order. This was after walking right past us, asking the other tables how everything was? I assume it took this long because on my way to the bathroom, I noticed she was heavily involved in texting someone... So, as we waited for our food, our server decided to clear a table next to us and she actually EMPTIED 2 USED WATER GLASSES right on to the floor between us, which ended up on my wife's feet! I can honestly say that was a first. The bigger question is who is responsible for the hiring and training? We may be back for a cocktail but that's about it! read more

so I'm from out of town.. I've been here for 4 months.. I'm an invested contractor in Savannah, a stone throw away.. The food here is amazing. I come from a big city with allot of food and this place would compete in time square.. I cannot complain about what they uphold.. However, if and when you visit this place, with good vibes and great atmosphere, you need to visit when kaysi or Emily are working. The rest of the bar tenders are DUDS. Milk duds.. The food compliments the service. Both absolutely TERRIBLE. The yellowfin tuna is drowning in a sauce to the point where it's soggy and you can't taste anything but sugar. The pickled shrimp didn't have any flavor. It was blanched and tasteless. The avocado "toast" wasn't even on bread it was a soggy mess. They charge you to use a credit card but they don't mention that. You just see it on the bill. When presented the bill she took it right out of my hand and I wasn't even allowed to review the charges. The ambiance is fitting for a tavern but very dark and unappealing for brunch. I've been here several times for drinks at the bar, unfortunately this review is about my first dinner. The four of us sat at a hightop and ordered drinks which were fine. I ordered Shrimp & Grits, my wife order sliced prime rib sandwich, and the other couple ordered the beet salad and a shrimp burger. The salad and burger were delivered in good time and from what I heard were good. Our Shrimp & Grits and Prime Rib sandwich did not come at same time. I figured they'd come in just a minute. Nope. Our waitress was at the kitchen window where I saw what definitely could've been my meal sitting. After 10+ minutes (seemed like a lot more) the waitress finally stopped by and apologized and blamed the kitchen. When our meals were delivered I was proved right that mine had been sitting there from the beginning. Hoping the heat lamps had kept it warm, but suspecting not, I touched a room temperature shrimp. I sent it back. Server said they'd make a new one. OK, I don't know for a fact it was not new but I suspect it wasn't. It was pretty quick and very hot especially the plate. All of the sausage was burned on one side, the side turned down on the plate. The shrimp were very hot and ok, the grits were ok at best. I ate all the shrimp and little else. A bit overpriced for what you get. My grilled grouper Po'Boy was not served on French bread as described. It was, however, cooked perfectly. Quinoa as a side went well with the 22 oz. cold local brews. Nice sandwich and salad selections for lunch. Checked out the wine selection. If you visit and you're interested in a bottle of reserve, you won't be disappointed with the choices. Wait staff did a fine job taking care of the 6 of us with three separate checks--most of which came out pretty much correct. Close enough among friends. The space is beautiful and unique.
