This was my first time to the Sugaree. It's located at the end of a small strip shopping area off Burnt Church Road. Plenty of parking. It's somewhat small and looks to hold maybe 30-40 people. It appears to be very popular for take-out. While they do have a nice deli type menu for lunch including hot pastrami or turkey reubens, they seem to be known for their market price lobster rolls. Today the lobster roll was $21 which seemed worth it based on the amount of lobster meat inside the buttered bun/sandwich. Choices of sides include loaded potato salad or pasta salad, cole slaw, etc. I took the pasta salad. Once you order at the counter, they will bring out your food (for dining in). Once you finished, its common to "bus your own table". The folks are very friendly and the store is clean. The lobster roll was as good as they say. read more

The Sugaree was half the price of Charleston treats and just as delicious! I ordered a chocolate chip cookie and a chocolate cronut. Both were fresh, decadent and fabulous! This is such a neat little place with fun decor! We stopped in for a quick lunch and had the most amazing lobster rolls! The lobster was so tender and the bun was perfectly toasted! The loaded potato salad and tomato feta salad were delicious... I just wish there was more of both... lol. It was counter service and they were quick with our order. Recommendations are how we learn about amazing restaurants that we may have never come across. This morning I went to Hilton Head BMW for service and they had the most amazing pastries, for their clients. The pastries were fresh, moist and memorable. Of course I had to ask the service desk who supplies them. I found out they were from The Sugaree, so I had to stop by on my way home to see what else they had on the menu. So I walk into The Sugaree and not only do they have pastries, there's a whole dining room, a full menu with breakfast bite, specialty sandwiches, fresh bread, and so much more. Food was just okay. Not sure about all of the great reviews. Bagels were just okay. Caprese grilled cheese was okay - aioli on a caprese was a little weird and not enough cheese to call it a grilled cheese. Coffee was meh. read more

We stopped here on the way home from Hilton Head. It is a quaint little bakery with many recommendations for the lobster roll so we thought it was worth a visit. Unfortunately, we arrived after the lunch rush and most of the bakery items were sold out so we could not try them but we were there primarily for the lobster roll. Service was quick and they were friendly and helpful. The traditional Maine style of lobster roll is with mayo and light seasoning. You can also order Connecticut style which is with butter. I opted for Maine style. It was chilled with light mayo and seasonings. It really let the flavor of the lobster shine through which was perfect. For my side I had the loaded potato salad which is potato salad with cheese and bacon. Definitely swing by if you are in Hilton Head. It is worth the trip. read more

This place is extremely New England. Restaurants are of course typically a way of bringing in a taste of another culture, and though the decor has a seafaring theme, the coast is about the only thing that New England and South Carolina have in common. So this was an interesting find. Another thing that both cultures do have in common is that the traditional cuisine is not that vegetarian-friendly. I managed to find one sandwich, but the vegan diner would be left maybe trying a plain bagel (to be fair, these looked good). The sweets do seem to be their focus, and of several delectable options, I picked some sort of almond danish or something. The pastry was quite creamy and sweet. My sandwich, which I ordered on rye for a kick, had a freshly grilled taste. I would have preferred a darker rye, but the bread was at least noticeably more interesting in flavor than a basic loaf. I wasn't blown away by their sides and ended up with a tomato and feta salad. From my perspective, I would say come for the pastries more than the lunch options. I am surprised that there are not more high-end pastries in the area, and the ones here were mouthwatering. read more

Worth the drive off Hilton Head Island for delicious lobster rolls! Tucked away on a small strip plaza in Bluffton, this small restaurant serves pastries, coffee, as well as sandwiches and lobster rolls. Today, market price was $18.50 for a lobster roll they came with plenty of meat on a buttery toasted New England style hot dog roll. We normally prefer Connecticut style rolls over mayo New England ones, but these were absolutely delicious and not too mayo-y! It comes with choice of one side. Coleslaw was just average, there's other types of slaw and chips available too. This is probably the best value lobster roll we've ever had for amount of lobster meat, taste and price! We've had them in Maine, Connecticut, and elsewhere on the east coast and these were just as delicious. We came just before noon and the line was getting quite long as we ate our lunch. There are smaller tables, one large table, and one high chair available which our toddler appreciated. One of the employees even gave our toddler a plastic duck which she was enamored with. We will hopefully be back before vacation ends!! read more

It's a hole in the wall type of spot and there's plenty of parking out front. How it works: walk up and order and they'll bring you your order! Moved from New Jersey a year ago, where we are used to local bakeries that I couldn't find here until now. I too (as another review mentioned) recently discovered Sugaree by way of the BMW service dept pastries. WoW, the baked goods Are Amazing. I was able to go on a Saturday for the cronuts. They are insanely good. The pastry is perfect, the glazes delicious, the cinn/sugar a perfect blend. The bagels and breads excellent. Now I must go back to try the rest! read more

This Place! has the BEST lobster rolls that you could ever find. It also has the most nicest employees that you could ever hope to find. They also have some really incredible baked items, both of the sugaree variety and of the bagel/bread/baked wonderfulness variety. The lobster rolls can be ordered Connecticut style with mayo, or Maine style with drawn butter. Either of which are super delectable, and you can even order it with minimal butter if you so choose. Todd and Jo even went waaay out of their way to help my Mom jump her car battery, even though they were busy with their lunch rush - VERY nice people! This was a pleasant surprise. We were in the area and looking for a quick bite for lunch. I found this place on yelp, saw it received 5 stars and decided to give it a go. We pulled up and from the outside it looked closed. But, someone walked out so we k ew it was open. We walked inside and to be honest wasn't that impressed. The place is small, there wasn't much in baked goods in the case, and the sandwich menu is small. But we figured we are here...so eff it. Let's give it a try. My husband ordered the lobster roll and I got pastrami on rye. The pastrami comes with Swiss cheese and mustard. Not a fan of Swiss so got it without. The verdict.....both sandwiches were outstanding. The lobster roll was lightly dressed and the lobster was perfectly cooked. It comes with a grilled new england style top split bun. The pastrami was delicious. Not a huge sandwich but more than enough. The meat was grilled and the delicious rye bread toasted. I would go back at anytime just for the pastrami. read more

We were traveling in the area and looked up coffee places. This one had great reviews so we stopped. Definitely not disappointed. It was fantastic! Does not look like anything fancy on the outside but food and coffee are phenomenal and well priced. The kind fella at the counter was patient with me when scrolling the menu.
