Really just went off OpenTable reviews for this place so I can say that I was not disappoint. Arrived at the restaurant and seated promptly. Had great attentive service. The atmosphere is business casual so you could do a romantic evening or just a night out. Appetizers: started off with these fried green tomatoes, which were a bit thick for my normal taste however, they were still very excellent. Then ordered the chicken and waffles. It appeared that everything is made from scratch from the waffles to the collarged green, the chicken breast to the leg buffalo hot sauce. Overall can't say enough good things about this place definitely recommend read more

Flew into town and stumbled across this little gem. Ambience has a family friendly feel. Service was great. We had the crab dip with pimento cheese and it was delicious. Main courses were Prime Rib which was huge portion with loaded potatoes in crock pot that were on point. I had the filet which was all excellent. Deserts are all home made and we had the chocolate spoon cake with homemade ice cream. Definitely with seeking this one out. read more

Popped into Hogsheads for a weekday night dinner and again found it outstanding! Service was exceptional throughout the evening. Drinks were poured plentifully. I had the special jambalaya which was superb, full of shrimp and sausage wrapped in okra, other veggies, and a spectacular sauce. I took half of it home. My wife loves beets and had the beet salad which she devoured plus blackened fresh shrimp. The food was cooked to order and came out piping hot. The owner stopped by our table a few times to ensure all was good. And it was better than good! To top it off we split the chocolate crème brûlée which was rich and so chocolaty that we wanted more. When my experience is this great, the cost doesn't matter. The entire evening was a treat. Hilton Head doesn't have many exceptional non-industrial dinner establishments, but Hogshead is one of the few restaurants that is far more than the run of the mill expensive tourist traps that grace our island. We couldn't even go in. It's in a strip mall, which made us nervous. But we pulled up and there is a neon sign on front that says "open" and Christmas lights?! Nothing about this place was welcoming or upscale. It looked like the takeout restaurants back home. The food may be fabulous...? read more

We are in Hilton Head for a few days. A family friend offered Hogshead as an option for dinner. What a suggestion! We arrived late on Dec 9th and Cristian, our waiter, greeted us and said he would see if the kitchen was still open. Thankfully for us, John, the chef, said it was. I had pork chops and my wife had a rosemary caesar salad. We were both blown away by the flavors in our dishes. Cristian, you are a great waiter and thank you for the suggestion for dinner and your VERY positive attitude. John, you are a fantastic chef and, in the short conversation we had, I can see that you also are a good man. Thank you both for your part in us having a fantastic dinner. Don't sleep on Hogshead Kitchen. we had a wonderful meal here. The bread and garlic infused oil is . The staff was extremely friendly and attentive but not overly intrusive. I wish we had the opportunity to try more of their shares or plates, but option for a main instead. We will definitely be back. Their Mac and cheese is awesome! I wrote this review two years ago. this is always been a favorite restaurant of mine and a place we always brought guests to or recommended to others. Quite a disappointment tonight. The prices are jacked up to a very high level. $48 for redfish, $52 for prime rib. Most entrees were $36. We had two Burgers and two glasses of water with tax and tip the bill came to $66. Burgers were overcooked but rather than send them back we endured it and left as soon as possible. A bit of a buzzkill for what would have been a pleasant dining experience. Word must be getting around because the restaurant was very lightly attended. I resent getting gouged so I will probably give this place a wide berth. read more

The food here is AMAZING! For appetizers, the mussels were so good that I wanted to drink the broth directly from the bowl. Instead, we were trying to be civilized so we dipped our bread to soak up the goodness. The oysters were also fantastic. I'm not sure what was on them but delicious. My hubby ordered the red fish dinner and he liked it. I ordered the beef with Gorgonzola cheese and it was sooo good. The Brussel sprouts were the best ever. Sexual really. Lol I was too full for dessert but had to have the biscotti. It was the best ever...a 100 year old recipe from grandma. Sooo good. If you're ever n HHI in South Carolina...you must stop in and have dinner. I wish I had snapped pictures because it's a beautiful presentation too. read more

I'm on one of my many visits to this laid-back land & found myself alone tonight so I popped in here - its so close to my hotel! The door was held open for me - so sweet! as I walked in and the place was much nicer than I thought it would be. I sat at the bar so I wouldn't feel SO alone and the bartender was courteous, attentive & knew the menu so well. I felt like a beer & chose the white wheat $7 on draft. It was SO good. I was torn between an apple & goat cheese salad & the roasted oysters. He suggested the oysters $16 & they didn't disappoint! Served with warm fresh-baked bread, yum. I dont often eat out alone but this was not an uncomfortable experience. The owner came by & smiled & asked how I was a couple of times, always a sign you're in a good place that cares about their patrons. My buddies would like it here so next time I'm in town, we'll stop in for some filet mignon! read more

I was dining alone so didn't get to try any apps that looked amazing but did get the best burger ever, added the onion straws which are hand cut like the fries, so delicious. Service was terrific! Will definitely visit again! The Hilton hotel next door will probably get my business next time I'm in town again also because it's walking distance from this amazing gem! read more

I am writing this review very late. I came here for a business trip and stumbled upon this place 3 months or so ago. I had the truffled honey salmon and I think about it often from time to time. I bet when I write this review they will remember who I am anyways lol. I understand many kitchens usually close an hour or so before the restaurant closes. I already knew what I wanted since it sounded so good. It was my last night working in SC and I didn't want to leave without trying this spot out. By mistake I lost track of time at the gym so I was going to arrive at Hogshead around 8:10pm. I called right before 8 and asked if there kitchen was closing since they close at 9. It was and I asked if I can order the truffled honey salmon and be there to sit in 10 minutes. They said Yes! I was happy. I arrived 10 minutes later and my table was all prepared for me. Iced water. Silverware. And this delicious oil infused with whole garlic cloves and bread. (I am a garlic lover). The garlic was soft and spread like butter. I never had garlic like this before and now make it for myself at home! I looked around and everyone seemed to have picked a good dish to eat. When I was served my truffled honey salmon I was amazed. Everything from the presentation, to the unique favor combination. There was this like jam stuff on the bottom if I recall. And I'm thinking that with salmon? Yes they pulled it off. This is probably one of the best experiences I've had at a restaurant. This is a restaurant where you can order ANYTHING from the menu and you will enjoy it. I was hungry so I ate quick, plus I was already kind of late and didn't want to hold any of the waitresses up. Not that they cared though. At the end, they actually thanked me before I was able to thank them. They told me they really appreciated me calling in before the kitchen was about to close. That meant a lot to me that they saw my effort to wanting to dine here before I flew back to nyc the next day lol. I will never forget about this dish or the people or the effort or energy at Hogshead. I do think about the truffled honey salmon very often. If I am ever back to SC, Hilton Head or not, I will most definitely come back again. Thank you. read more

I am very disappointed with the experience overall and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. We made a reservation and drove from Hilton Head for a nice dinner. (3 couples) There were seats available outside and inside. The staff was very friendly and nice. Absolute,y loved the people. However, the quality of food and service to price ratio was not very balanced. It took us a while to get drinks and we were constantly looking for our sever. Understanding that there is a shortage in work force everywhere, I would absolutely give it a pass. But on top of this, the prices were way too high per entree. Meatloaf was 31$ and chicken Parmesan special $34. (both were ok diner quality and a bit chewy) Their best entree was the burger. The atmosphere did not meet our expectations. We don't need white tableclothes...but a sport bar atmosphere does not make sense with these type of prices. read more

A lovely evening eating outside under covering. The Fried Green tomatoes were unique and fantastic, smothered in Pimento cheese! The generous ribs were tender and well-seasoned. My husband loved the meatloaf. His salad was gigantic and super fresh. The homemade lemonade was flavorful and certainly not watered down. THE KEY LIME PIE---you must have it! delectable. different from any you've had before. heavenly. And, Jon, our waiter, was Southern Friendly and so patient and helpful!. This place is a hidden gem! It's a bit of a drive from HHI, about 20 minutes from where we were staying, but it was worth it. The fried green tomatoes, pimento Mac n cheese, and drinks were my favorite part!! I would like to start by saying I just warmed up the macaroni and cheese leftovers from Hogshead and it was just as amazing keeping all the flavor and layers of deliciousness as if I were still at the table. Please know there is NO wrong choice on their menu because everything is made with "LOVE" And the LOVE starts as soon as you walk in the door. Thank U Lexi, John (service extraordinaire) and Chef John for embracing these New Yorkers as family. We dined, we laughed, we learned and we were HAPPY! Go for food you will not be disappointed. I am visiting the area and ordered my meal to go. I tried the Truffled Honey Salmon and I have to say it was beyond amazing - even as take out! Flavorful, perfectly cooked and seasoned, I wasn't sure about the honey and cranberry sauces but so glad I gave it all a try! In town for work and staying a few hundred yards away. Hotel staff told coworker and I about this place, so we decided to give it a try. While I'm no food connoisseur, I'm on the road for work around 120 nights per year, in totally random destinations, so I eat out a LOT. I have to say this place is one of my favorites anywhere so far. The food looked and tasted fantastic. I had Honey glazed salmon with Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. I have dined at Hogshead twice now and was pleased with my meal on both occasions. The service was good too on both trips. We went in Saturday evening with a group of 6 & met 2 others at the bar. Despite the fact that we had no reservations, they seated us immediately. They have some yummy cocktails - My favorites here are the Peach Mule and Pinckney Punch. I ordered oysters as my starter and they were good. Nice home-made tasting cocktail sauce. For my entrée, I went with one of the specials - local redfish served with saffron rice & spinach. It was very tasty. My hubby ordered the prime rib & he said it was ok but not the best. He also ordered a cesar salad that he said was average. One of the folks in our party ordered the mac & cheese, which looked good except that it has bacon in it. The hubby & I ended up spending around $140 (including tip) with 2 meals, 1 salad, 1/2 order of oysters, 2 entrees, and cocktails. They do have less expensive items on their menu & if you limit your cocktails you can get out of there for much less than what we spent. read more

We had dinner there on Valentines Day. The staff and owner were very accommodating. We ran into some old friends and the server arranged for us to sit together. The food is excellent with a great choice of a variety of Lowcountry dishes. I no longer live in the Lowcountry but when we return to visit Hogshead will be on my list of restaurants to recommend and revisit. read more

Holy foodgasm batman. Pretty unassuming place just over the bridge in bluffton. Kind of empty little business/strip mall thing. I think they are new but my tummy tells me that they'll be packed. Started with drinks. A dogfish 90 min IPA on draft for the hubs and spring "thyme" fizz cocktail for me. A sweet but herby kind of drink with citron and blueberry lemon soda and thyme. Very tasty. An app of marinated feta, olive tapenade, roasted corn and pita. Light, fresh. Warm pita. It didn't fill you up which is good. Just enough to whet the appetite. Hubby got the special of filet, Gorgonzola mashed potatoes, corn, brown butter Brussel sprouts and a Demi glacé. Holy cow. Hubby cleared the plate. And I had to restrain myself. The mashed potatoes were amazing. I got the all American burger with truffled fries. Om nom nom. Delicious party with pimento cheese oozing over it. And I'm not a huge pimento cheese fan but it was perfection. I couldn't eat the whole thing because I wanted dessert and to walk out under my own power and not be rolled out. And the fries!!! Truffled with pecorino. Yes. Yes. Yes. And finally....dessert. It was hard to decide. Hubs got the bourbon pecan pie. A single serve portion in a little cast iron skillet. Just the right amount of bourbon and right consistency. And vanilla ice cream. I got the Carolina peach cobbler. Sweet fancy Moses. Almost better than what I make. A cakey cobbler as opposed to rolled crust-which is the right way to do peach cobbler. And butter pecan ice cream. I ate it all. The bottom line? So with crossing the bridge from HHI. This place is going on the list of "must eat places" for our annual vacation to HHI. read more
