Nothing is better than some friends and some tasty drinks. Pour Bastards has both a clever name and a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy some Modern Cocktails. We found this place while walking downtown after first Friday. If you've ever participated in first Friday, you may know it's a crowded event and sometimes you need a reprieve from the chaos. Thankfully we found Pour Bastards and they had a table ready for our party of 3 in less than 10 minutes. The atmosphere was excited and plenty loud, but nothing in comparison to the swarm of people outside. I noticed a few people on dates and I think it would be a nice date spot. We sat at a high top table and our server/bartender was a great help with suggestions and explaining the menu. I tried two drinks - the YOU SNOOZE YUZUS (or another lemon drink...) and an orange wine. I went for flavors I didn't usually try and I was not disappointed. The cocktail was cute and tasty and the wine was nice. I'd try more of their cocktails for sure; they seem to change the menu often, so there's always something new and interesting to try!

A classy cocktail bar with a chill vibe and serious cocktails served in a very friendly environment. The dim lighting and the spiffy cocktails will set the perfect mood to unwind on a Friday night. They have a wide variety of Modern Cocktails served while listening to some easy vibing hip hop and rap in the background! If you want to enjoy some quiet nice "me time", this place is nicely setup to transport you into that zone! Would definitely recommend to come over and enjoy some eclectic selection of cocktails. Cheers!

Thursday night and we just had a great dinner, but we weren't ready to head home quite yet. We had been watching the stories of Pour Bastards through their Instagram and we've been intrigued! They've been creating drinks at the level of scientists, removing alcohol from spirits and then replacing them with different alcohols before creating a "classic" cocktail with this new flavor. It's insane. As lovers of both cocktails AND science, we've had this spot on our radar for a minute and certainly couldn't pass up the opportunity while we were out on Roosevelt. We sat at a table next to the window and started making our cocktail choices based on the ingredient lists on the menu. There was a section we didn't understand, so when our bartender, Nick, came over to check on us, he very kindly and excitedly schooled us on what's listed as their "Classics" that I explained at the top of this review. We were able to understand the process, but couldn't fathom the result. So, in the name of science, we threw our original drink choices out the window and we ordered what we didn't know. Because that's what we do. Martini with orange wine switched Tanqueray Old Fashioned with espresso martini switched whiskey French 75 with red wine (Beaujolais?) switched gin The Pineapple and the Hot Cocktail were both also great, but honestly the "Classics" were unbeatable. The flavor, clarity, and effort put into these drinks made it hard not to constantly marvel at what we were sipping on. It seems like they will occasionally change out the cocktail choices, so the sooner you stop in, the more likely it is that they'll have the one you want (hint: it's the Old Fashioned).

I unexpectedly had the pleasure of attending the influencer only pre-opening of Pretty Penny last night. I must admit, I got so caught up in the vibe, the amazing drinks, and chatting with the super cool bartenders that I forgot to do my job and take good pictures That in itself shows what a local gem this place is shaping out to be. Baily (pictured left) has been a bartender at this location for a year now since their opening as Pour Bastards- commuting all the way from North Glendale to craft unique (and delicious) cocktails for us downtown. Although the interior design and name have changed, the bartenders have not (thankfully.) Baily and Austin (pictured right) collaborate with the owners to dream up interesting cocktails with high quality ingredients you don't see on just any cocktail menu. The new design has the chefs cooking where the bar would traditionally be and the bartenders working behind the scenes. While interesting, I was a little concerned about the new setup since I like to interact with the bartenders and ask questions. Fortunately, I had nothing to worry about, as Baily served my table personally in addition to making the drinks. I will definitely be back (and will hopefully remember to do my job this time and take pictures.)

My FAVORITE bar in Downtown PHX! Looks very unassuming on the outside, but it's very chic and trendy inside! Good for at least 2 large groups and many smaller 4 and 2 tops. Service is always amazing, giving great recommendations and super friendly. Also, these cocktails are WORKS OF ART~ Anywhere between $15-18 (last I remember) cocktails that are WELL worth it, if you. Such fun combinations and they make the drinks like Chemistry Lab :) My All time Faves are the Neptune's Trident and Art of War

1000% OBSESSED with this place. These clarified cocktails taking over right now I can't get more on board!! The prices and the flavors are incredible.

    Blocked from their IG :(

I got blocked from their Instagram after commenting a review of the bar. Altogether, the concept of readily available cocktail chemistry and culinary technique is fun. However, per what an article said about them, "Pour Bastards - [being a] Place to bring a Cocktail Geek" misses the mark. Of the drinks they have on their "specialties" menu, nothing is made fresh. Everything is pre-batched and served on tap. Not nearly as cool as the marketing makes it out to be. I don't even recall being able to order a normal cocktail such as a mule. Maybe the waitress was confused? Anyways, orders couldn't even be changed for allergen awareness reasons because everything is, as I said, pre-made. Unfortunate. Pour Bastards is marketing modern mixology, but the reality is more slipshod and lethargic. The location is abysmally tiny. MAYBE 15 Tables? Going with a large group (5+)? That's a big no-no. Atmosphere is depressingly dark. It's not a speakeasy type of bar. Won't hurt to turn on the lights. Especially since they don't need to see what bottles they're picking up to mix... oops. The concept of modern culinary practices is fun, but execution is severely lack luster. Definitely not living up to the headline as a place to bring a Cocktail Geek or someone who enjoys mixology. Better drinks and environment can be found elsewhere. But what do I know? Their social media personnel says I have no clue what I'm talking about.

I was excited to try this place out when I saw it on my IG. I came on First Friday at 7 when they first opened and there was plenty of seating. I was very intrigued by the cocktails and was not disappointed. We had the dark cherry, watermelon, pomegranate and the lemon drop shots. They were all very complex and well balanced. I was also very impressed by the service. Sarah and Nicholas both took care of us and were very friendly and informative. The decor was interesting and of all things, I really liked the table lamps! I need one of them in my life. I thought the bar snacks were a nice touch as well. I am looking forward to going back and trying more drinks out!

It was busy, but not packed, which made the service stand out more than it should have. I had to ask for water twice, never got a refill, and overall felt largely ignored--minimal eye contact, no real warmth, just an impersonal feel that didn't match the space. It felt like a place that may be a bit of a victim of its own success--popularity has grown, but delivery hasn't fully kept pace. Part of the appeal here is the permanent taco truck outside, which I know from past visits is excellent, and I love the truck's outspoken, unapologetic support for immigrants. That said, the cocktail itself was excellent. I was specifically looking for a coffee-based drink before heading to another event, and the Cambures al Estilo Foster delivered on flavor. It was tiny, though--served in a small stemmed glass, gone in a few sips. It did the job, but some may find the portion underwhelming for the price. No major complaints, but nothing pulling me back either. I'm adding a fourth star on a bit of a hunch--I'd like to think they can dial it back in if I return.

My party and I had a reservation on a Saturday night at 9pm (when it's 13 people, what can you do). What kind of sucked though (and mainly why I'm deducting a star) is that we did wait an additional half hour to be seated after our reservation time. Our theory is that they didn't think the entire party would actually arrive, and they were not ready to accommodate us. To be fair, the restaurant IS on the smaller side, but there was 0 communication during that half hour on what was going on... which isn't really good for us either. We got the original set, and this somewhat confused me as well. The food was really good, and was definitely a restaurant that I'd go to for the experience, but for some reason some of the meats were doubled while others weren't. The double portions were really nice since our party was so large, we needed to split the food between 4 different grills (so each table got 2 grills each, feeding 6-7 people in total or 3-4 people per grill), but then we had to share the portions where we only got one serving. It wasn't bad, but to me, didn't make sense. The food was really good though; I didn't care too much about the soup, but the green sauce was SO good. Mixing a little with the soup was incredible. I thought the beef and pork were really good. I personally left the restaurant full, but many others in my party did not. I think it's a really good amount of food for 2 people, but when you push to 3+, you probably do not want to come hungry. Also--the live music at Pemberton next door is SO LOUD, you're going to be shouting at your table the entire night when you sit outside. I think I would come back if I wanted to show this place to someone who didn't live here, but it isn't on the top of my list for when I'm trying to eat out, but I will definitely consider this for special date night occasions. It is extremely expensive for what it is though. For $70+ you risk the chance of leaving not full which SUCKS.
