The food was ordinary at best. The atmosphere was disjointed, caught between a dive bar that serves 40's and some sort of a pseudo cool upscale spot for hip burgers. Burger was plain. Nothing cool about it. Mozzarella stick appetizer was undercooked. Seriously, how do you mess up mozzarella sticks? As for the ambience...we were seated in a side area that shared a wall with the kitchen. The music that was being played in the kitchen was louder than the music that was being played over the speakers in the restaurant, which created a nightmare mix that made conversation impossible. Keep in mind that there were about seven people total in the restaurant at that point (around 10:30PM). When our server checked on us we asked if the kitchen staff could please turn down their music. The server replied that one of the owners was actually in the kitchen and there was nothing he could do about it, but that he (the owner) would be leaving soon so the music should stop. So our mix of hardcore explicit music from the kitchen rumbled on, perks of being in ownership I guess. When we were through we waited for our bill but our server (also the bartender- who was very friendly) was nowhere to be found. We went to the bar and asked the woman behind the bar for our tab but she replied that she wasn't actually working but our server should be back shortly. After a few more minutes of waiting our server came in from outside and we were able to pay our tab. And that's Pounds. If what I described sounds good then it's your place. Be sure to get a 40, it will probably make the experience better. read more

Used to have an awesome Saturday night DJ but the one they have had lately is awful. I have watched multiple people request different songs/genres and nothing. When you talked to the supervisor and he told me "that's an opinion" when literally no one who was there liked the music. Yo bad they fell when they the potential to be the new "spot" in Fargo. We were really excited to check this place out. The staff was lively and friendly. They're the reason I gave a second star. The restaurant feels dirty and our table was tacky. The forks are held in a plastic cup on the table and we're dirty. I asked for new ones and was told the new ones were better, but just a little water spots. They were also gross looking. The fried pickles and avocado ranch were yummy! However, my husbands burger was just okay. My artichoke melt was okay. Our sides were just okay. I think if I had come here to drink and relive the cliche 90s aesthetic, this would be the place. However, for a dinner spot, this is not the place and I won't be coming back. TLDR; It's just okay, but bogged down by my personal experience other a tacky to touch table and dirty forks. read more

Went there for dinner on Saturday (12/12) and nearly walked out more than once. Their food and service was fine. No complaints and nothing stood out. What did stand out was the horribly loud GANSTA' RAP!! Seriously. Never heard so much profanity in the music at any restaurant I've ever been to before. I guess all the pasty white college-aged guys working the counter thought playing this music was cool, but they need to grow up. I had a glimmer hope after several f-bomb songs when they played a David Bowie song...then even before the song completed, they switched it right back to "n*gger this", "f*ck that". Seriously. We will never go back and I couldn't imagine anyone else who'd want to be subjected to this environment either. Looking at the other, more positive reviews, maybe this was a rarity there, but it should be a never. Our first experience was a bit on the horrible side. This place looks nice enough with their simplistic but trendy decor, an ok selection of beers, and food with potential, but don't bring your kids here, or your parents, or anyone that wants to have an adult conversation, because it ain't happening. read more

This happens to be the best burger in town. The owners are friendly and will make sure your experience is worthwhile. The drinks are fun and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is whimsical with a touch of urban. For any first timers, I would recommend coming in Monday for the burger +fries+ beer special. I happened to be walking by this place earlier today, and luckily, it was lunchtime, so I decided to give them a try. The décor is very simplistic, so please don't pay it much heed; besides, you go to a restaurant to eat, not to look at artwork! I tried their 38th Parallel Burger, which has house-made kimchi, pepper jam, cilantro, and yin-yang sauce, and a side of their Hand-Cut Fries with Parmesan and Truffle Oil added on. Not gonna lie, it's been a while since I've had a burger that I had to physically put down, or else risk eating it all at once and have nothing left to eat but my fries; it was that good! I asked the server if she knew what kind of meat they used for their burgers, and after going back to the kitchen she said that it was ground chuck. This didn't come as too much of a surprise to me, as you can taste the difference in quality. The fries were very good, but I'm interested in trying their Fried Green Beans or Brussels Sprouts next time! There was a couple sitting next to me at the bar, and they had ordered the Poutine as an appetizer; it looked amazing, and they confirmed it by saying that the gravy on there was some of the best that they've ever had. Great lunch fare -- Sunset Rider burger (with Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce) and hand-cut fries with at least five different seasonings balanced to the right proportion. (I asked.) Good ambiance. You cannot tell this place used to be the much more upscale Beefsteak Club. The menu is a lot more approachable, but not particularly unique. It has the standard burgers and sandwiches, with a few hidden gems and extras that make it special to Pounds. The spinach and artichoke dip was pleasantly surprising. It wasn't dense or overpowering like so many dips can be. The wait staff was exceptionally friendly, as was the manager on duty who stopped by to see how we were doing and what we thought of the new place. They have a nice selection of beers and specialty drinks, so don't feel limited to meal time. PBR pounders for $2.50 if that's your kind of thing. read more

Seriously, I was super impressed with the treatment we received from our waitress and bar tender/ manager(?) of the place! I will definitely be coming back. We experienced a wobbly table, so the manager/bar tender attempts to fix it with matches and gives us around of free shots because of it. Thank you! That is the best customer service we have ever gotten. It feels like they really take pride in the place and what they present and serve. The food is completely on point. We tried the homemade pretzel bites with awesome cheese sauce, lobster eggs rolls, truffle and parm fries, and the steak sandwich. I've never actually had truffle fries where I can taste the truffle oil!!! Awesome!!!! The ONLY thing I can say I would change is making sure the steak is a bit more cut up on the sandwich, as it was a little difficult eating the large chunks that were kind of fatt/grizly. But seriously everything was seasoned and really delicious. We also tried the Salsa Verde wings with corn and pumpkin seeds. These were really unique. The wings were deep fried and rolled in salsa verde and charred corn and pumpkin seeds. Rolled in them! Holy crap!! They tasted like they were smoked and grilled because of the flavors and I couldn't have thought of a better combination. Kudos for that!! Oh, and the Beer and Bump menu is refreshing and awesome. You can get a beer (Lake Street IPA!!) AND a shot (Bouliet bourbon!!) for $8. So happy this place is downtown replacing the establishment that came before it. I hope the menu adds more items as well over time or rotates them, because they are really great ideas and flavors and it works!! read more

They have a problem with the heating here. Super freezing and everyone is wearing their coats. The server offered to move us to a warmer spot (and admitted they had a problem with their heating), which we did, but I still can barely type. Food sounded interesting on the menu, but lacks in flavour and uniqueness. The poutine was very very non-extraordinary. Honestly, lucky 13 and smashburger are far far better. I've only eaten here once, but it was very good! Had the monday or tuesday night special, honestly it has been a while so I don't recall the intimate details except we had whichever burger was on special and the spinach/artichoke dip (ok, it's a cheese dip with small pieces of green stuff, let's not kid ourselves!). The service was good, it was very slow - we were the only ones being served although there were two other groups drinking. The food was still fresh, delicious, and the staff was very pleasant and appropriately attentive. It's alright. Very unique offerings, great service, and a well stocked bar. A little pricey for what you get, however. Tiny burgers! The small menu is a little focused on the foodie crowd. You won't find a "regular" item anywhere. I am not implying that is a terrible thing! Decor is spartan, and feels like it's still under construction. Having never been to the old beefsteak club which formerly resided in the space, we weren't sure what to expect, but we were impressed with the design of the space when we first walked in. They have made good use of the space, placing some fun bar style seating along the windows and doors. We snatched one up by the front door so we could people watch. It was great, but our server did catch us off guard whenever he approached. Thankfully, this was offset by a kind demeanor, frequent check-ins, and knowledge of what he was serving. Neither of us are cicerones, but we enjoy good beer and were happy to see they had a good selection of local and regional brews. My wife settled for a Drekker and I couldn't help but take them up on their $2.5 pounder of PBR--it had been a while. We enjoyed the smallish menu with unique looking options, and had some great conversation peppered by some awkward tunes from the 90's while we waited. The food was good, and tried oh-so-hard to be great. We enjoyed some pretzel bites with a beer cheese dip, a Roma burger, and 38th parallel burger. The burger patties and buns were mediocre, but the ingredients almost covered them up. The 38th parallel was a little sparse with the kimchi, but our server brought more before I even asked him too. We have been looking at the web site for this place for a while and finally decided to try it. Was very disappointed. It was so dirty. Sauce smeared on menus on the table and they were all sticky. Hair laying on the table and cigarette butt on the floor under our sticky table. The mimosa bar items were a bit hard from sitting out. The Monday special is a classic cheeseburger, fries, and a draft beer for $10. The beer selection is pretty good with some local beers. The fries were thinly cut and delicious. If you like crispy fries you probably won't enjoy them as much. The cheeseburger had a good balance with a slightly charred bun, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. Great place! I was hanging out with my girlfriend and she wasn't really feeling going out and drinking. So we made a compromise, and stopped into pounds for "Just one beer". Well luckily for me, pounds serves Busch Light in a 40 ounce bottle. I was really impressed with this beer! Where else in Fargo can you get 40s???
