My wife and I finally made it to the newish Sol Ave Kitchen in Moorhead, and we really enjoyed our night. For those not yet familiar with this restaurant, it is adjacent to Junkyard Brewing - and we noticed that Junkyard patrons can order food from Sol Ave (as we saw plenty of people and food going in & out). To start, we tried the hummus plate and a meat/cheese/nuts/more plate (I don't recall what it was because I asked the server to just pick three of the items for me to build it). We extra-enjoyed the cheese selection and the very tasty apple-pear chutney. This filled us up fairly well but we still had our entrees coming. I had the salmon melt, which I shared a pic on this page. The melt came on a thick piece of bread, melted as an open-face with the chips right on top of it. I was expecting a more traditional two-bread melt with chips on the side, but I liked this better! My wife had two different tacos, one with a fried chicken and the other with steak. She loved the chicken one and had me finish the steak taco as she was full, plus that one was spicier than she likes. Most of the seating is long tables with benches so be prepared to potentially share a table (much like you find at Wurst or Drekker or Junkyard). We sat at a countertop & stool seating along the kitchen prep area, which ended up being a nice choice as we had a view of all the food they were preparing, which helped us think about what we will eat on our next visit. For me, it will definitely be the fried chicken sammie. Overall, it was a nice night and a nice place. The food quality is very high and the ingredients are both quality and "different" for any non-foodie types. I think that is a differentiator for this place and a nice change from normal. In addition, the service was very friendly and attentive - I wished I could remember our main server's name as I would have given her a shout-out in this review. What a great spot in the Moorehead area. I've been wanting to visit for a while & finally had the chance to grab some to go & take it over to the brewery next door. This place is bright and welcoming. The staff was quick & friendly upon greeting us. They asked if we were staying or taking to go. my boyfriend & I ordered tacso, a pretzel (special for Junktoberfest), the Grilled Chicken Salsa Macha Bowl, and Blistered Shishito Peppers. The boyfriend really enjoyed his tacos. I tried his pretzel & it's literally the best giant pretzel I've had. It was soft yet flavorful. It came with a spicy mustard and beer cheese for dipping. They were both awesome. The Blistered Shishito Peppers came with a nice portion. They were seasoned nicely & tasty with sprinkles of almonds & goat cheese. Unique, okay, expensive. This place is a whole vibe, and I'm sure those who like it really really like it! It wasn't for me. Food was very pretty! Nice unique ingredients and a full mouth of flavor, but spice was too much, and if you don't know the style of food, you don't know when something is spicy. Service was good; and it's a nice touch that you can take it next door. Two meals and two beverages were $55 to put into perspective the cost part as mentioned. It's really good if you enjoy spending 20 dollars on a small, bland tasting dish. Also, they love to charge you extra for take-out. No, nothing is different if you do take-out, you still get to eat your food out of a cardboard box like those who chose to dine-in. If you're going out with a date or friend, expect the tab to be around $50. The only reason you'd be blown away by their menu is if your current diet is just fast-food lunch and unseasoned dinners. Husband brought some wings home the other night. They were insanely good. Definitely the best wings in town. Maybe the best wings I've ever had. So we were out and about and I got over hungry. We end up here. I ordered the Brussels sprouts and broccolini. Husband got fried chicken tacos. So I'm sitting here willing myself not to lick the plate. Because I'm in public. But I want to lick the plate. It's SO good. The Brussels sprouts were transcendent. Now I wish they weren't so ridiculously expensive. I mean $13 for chicken wings. Really!?! We got take out from Sol on our Fargo/Moorhead visit. Delicious food - dumplings and tacos. You don't get a lot of food but what you get is yummy especially the dumplings. Try the Dirty Wings. Terrific! They are the reason I will be back. My Korean Beef Bowl was tasty, though I wanted more meat in the dish. Table service was friendly, but there was only one server for all tables inside and out, and they also had to clear tables, take payments at the counter and run take-out orders to the bar next door. This place really shows how breweries and small restaurants can help each other out. We were at Junkyard Brewing next door and needed food after a hard day of hiking. You can just pop over to Sol Ave Kitchen and order food to the brewery. It keeps the brewery from having to get a license to serve/the space to make food, while the restaurant doesn't have to get a liquor license. I got a pork bowl for my dinner. The flavors were delicious. This was also where my biggest gripe was. It was one piece of pork belly, and then minimal toppings as well. There was a lot of rice left in the bowl because I ran out of toppings well before I finished. The toppings though were so flavorful and delicious. The pork was melt in my mouth tender, the pickled onions, radishes, and salsa verde helped give some nice tang to cut the fat richness. The highlight for me was the brussel sprouts. I LOVE brussel sprouts (roasted or fried, never steamed). These were some of the best I've ever had. They were crispy almost crunchy all the way through. The tamarin sauce on the top added a nice zest and tang. I will dream of these brussel sprouts. Totally a great option for lunch or dinner with a good beer next door. 25/100 read more

Was told, in a not very polite manner, that I could not have a beverage in there and she rudely pointed at the door. Said I had to leave it in the bar before I could order. A North Moorhead gem! We've been following on Instagram because they are next door to Junkyard Brewing Company. The food looked good, but we are from out of town and we couldn't time it right to get there when they were open. Today we made it happen! We arrived when they opened, put our names down for a reservation and we were seated right away. We chose a table on their bright and cheery patio. We chose the double fried chicken sandwich, a few of the taco varieties and the potato salad. It was ALL GOOD! A mix of fresh, a bit spicy and bright flavors combined into an addicting fiesta on my tastebuds! I will seriously be thinking about the great food we had at Sol Kitchen. It's a shame because we live a few hours away. Day trip for Sol Kitchen and Junkyard beer? Yes, please! We also thought that Sol Kitchen should feature some Junkyard beer on their menu. We gave Sol Ave Kitchen a try via Uber Eats after hearing Guy Fieri visited & filmed there. Prior, we drove by this place a million times and didn't know anything about it. Two of us shared the hummus plate, the broccolini, and 2 of each type of taco. Everything was excellent. The crispy chicken tacos were exceptional. It was plenty of food and it arrived quickly. Sol Ave is Moorhead's best-kept secret! I always recommend it to anyone who is new to town. The food was delicious and the staff has been nothing but friendly whenever I've visited there. The food is made from quality ingredients and they are making a clear effort toward sustainability. The food was ready fairly quickly and it is very nice to enjoy while indulging at Junkyard Brewery next door.
