Only issue was the soda fountain was putting out very watery soda, I'm sure they can fix it. The staff was maybe a touch under trained - friendly but couldn't answer many menu questions. The quesabirria was so good that I didn't even get to take a picture before the whole thing was inhaled, but the torta was alright, not much flavor in the carne asada. However, Vaqueros were generous with the amount of fries I got with the torta, with the amount of sauces we got with our complimentary chips, and with the consomé that came with the quesabirria tacos. It's about time I shout from the rooftops how amazing El Vaqueros is. For starters, it's a mom & pop taco business. You go for the food not the setting. The tacos are amazing. In the half dozen visits, I've tried a variety of tacos and have never been let down. Always a special for something on the menu. I made an order online 10/11 8:16pm and went to pick it up - arrived around 8:28 or something. They had a sign stating "closed for private event". They should turn off online ordering if they are closed. Now, next day, I am trying to get a refund and have called 2x already and they say no manager is available (even though I confirmed if there would be a manager the next time I call at 5pm). They asked me to call tomorrow at 11? or 12? idk they guy on the phone was not even sure himself. There should be a manager on duty to help with this stuff if the associates can't. I am a manager myself and this is unacceptable honestly. Terrible customer service. Very sad bc the food is good but not worth this hassle. read more

We were really impressed with our visit. I've been meaning to go after hearing a coworker boast about how good the food is here. Both the food and the service was outstanding. The front of the house staff seemed like they genuinely cared and enjoyed their jobs. I had the Quessabirrias, which were amazing. You get three of them, filled with tender beef and they also come with great tasting rice and refried beans. Normally I'm one to finish my entire meal, but I only ate 1 of 3; getting the rest for a to-go box. Part of that reason could be all the tortilla chips & salsa I had, as the chips tasted so good. The menu isn't as huge as most Mexican restaurants, but that was fine with me. Still plenty of choices and my hunch is that everything is good here. This business shows a complete and unacceptable lack of customer service and professionalism. I placed and paid for an order and arrived to pick it up at the stated pickup time, more than an hour before their posted closing time, only to find that the restaurant had already closed. No notice was given, and no one contacted me to say the order would not be fulfilled. They accepted my payment despite being closed, made no effort to inform me, and left me standing there with no order and no explanation. This alone demonstrates a total disregard for customers' time and money. When I called the next day to request a refund, I was told it would be handled. It was not. Over the following days, every attempt to resolve the issue was met with avoidance and hostility. The same staff member repeatedly refused to take responsibility, made excuses, told me to "try again another day," and hung up on me. When I called back simply to request the manager's contact information, because it is nearly impossible to reach anyone, I was deliberately obstructed. Instead of helping, this employee played recorded audio over the phone and hung up again. This behavior goes beyond poor service and shows a willful refusal to assist a paying customer. We are still owed nearly $200. Taking a customer's money while closed, failing to provide the order, refusing a refund, and repeatedly hanging up is completely unacceptable. This business has demonstrated zero accountability and a complete lack of customer service. Do not support this business. read more

My husband's racing tradition is to have menudo after, so we found this restaurant. We pulled up just before they opened at 11 and people were already coming in so that's a great sign. It was pretty crowded by 11:10! I ordered quesabirria with no rice and he got his menudo that didn't come with hominy. It was $1 extra. The salsa was fresh tasting and the chips were crispy. My quesabirria was good! I know the tortillas break down with cooking but I wish it didn't have two tortillas for each taco. That's just me. Doesn't mean it wasn't really good. They don't serve it with onion and cilantro like back home so I stole my husband's for his menudo. The consommé was super tasty and I loved it with the onion, cilantro and radish. The refried beans were good but missing something. I guess they were different beans than what we use in Texas. I know I sound like I'm complaining but, really it's very good. There is nothing like rolling into a new town and discovering a wonderful local place for a delicious meal. The chicken enchiladas were fantastic and the verde sauce had a subtle sweetness I had never tasted before. The chips were warm and the salsa was obviously homemade with large chunks of tomato and onion in a well seasoned sauce. The flan was the the cherry on top of a great meal. Staff was very friendly and food came promptly on piping hot plates. The cheery yellow walls and colorful flags made the dining area welcoming. No alcohol served, but a good variety of Jarritos sodas on hand. Highly recommend! read more

This is the best Mexican restaurant I have been too around town. They have an appetizer which is chips and salsa which is extremely delicious it's like they warm/heat up the chips. Ok so I'm from CA. Haven't been able to find really good pozole for a while unless it's from la única which is one specific days of the week. It is always an exciting moment when a new Taqueria opens in Fargo. I constantly crave that savory, complex, and rich experience that invariably gets better as you drive away from the Canadian border. El Vaqueros is a solid new addition to the Mexican scene. They have some great options on their menu that don't appear just anywhere, including lengua, chorizo, verde, and mole. No joke - some of their longtime completion once asked if i wanted red or green gravy on my dish. I wept, so Vaqueros looked to be a blessing. I had the 3 enchilada platter (3.5/5), which came with the usual rice and refried beans. The sides were nothing special. The enchiladas (beef + roja) were pretty solid. The ground beef was flavorful, but quite greasy. I was sad that steak enchiladas weren't an option; my partner had steak in the Fiesta Burrito and that steak was some exceptional flavor: rich, warm, smoky, unctuous. Much better than the ground beef. The sauces (5/5) I'm excited that there's a place with verde, roja, mole, and crema (sour cream) options. Just that range gives me hope. And while I'm not going to try civeche in a new-new place, that they have it on the menu gives me the warm kind of feeling inside that makes me want to eat more tacos - of which you can get "authentic" or "American." And if you don't know the difference, you'll still probably like this place. The menu is extensive including a number of huevos (eggs) options. It'll be nice to have a place that can do legit taqueria breakfast. There's also a salsa bar, which has an excellent selection of salsas, some veg, and even quartered limes. As it's the first few days, service was... a miss. No one knew Jarritos by name, despite having 6 flavors, there wasn't a lot of forethought in getting no-twist bottles. And the piece de rèsistance lacking - bottled Coke. There are also some serious expediting missteps. We'd ordered a the ChoriQueso app, which came out right away... without chips or tortillas. I mean, I like chorizo spiked cheese, but I'm not down for it as an acceptable substitution for soup. Other items were missed at tables around us, but this should be an easy fix, but that still won't help the servers attitude. Still, this is a win for Fargo flavor and a loss for my self-control. read more

7 months ago when I first reviewed, this place was great. FF to now, it's terrible. Every time we have ordered for delivery, it's been wrong, like they don't look at the notes or the options THEY give you to add extra or take something off (beans, guac, sour cream, onions etc) they also must have gotten a new cook or something who doesn't know what they're doing because this time when we ordered, not only was the order wrong, but there was barely any cheese on the quesadilla and the asada was so tough and burnt I couldn't even eat it and it lacked flavor. First time I went there I was so excited for QuesaBirria!.. got 20 minutes home and no beef broth for dipping and little cheese. That sucks .Gave them a second try a few days later.. asked for and PAID for extra cheese, this time got less cheese than before and little beef broth. Tried El Vaqueros for the first time tonight. Wow! The staff was very welcoming and friendly. At our table, we ordered a chicken taco, carnitas taco, beef and cheese enchiladas with red sauce, and the kids bean and cheese burrito. The tacos were amazing - such great flavor in both the chicken and the carnitas. The enchiladas were also really great. I normally am not a fan of restaurant beef enchiladas because the beef tastes weird to me. The beef in these enchiladas had a delicious flavor, not weird at all! The kids ate the bean and cheese burritos before I could sneak a bite, so I'm assuming they were good. We also had an order of chips and guacamole, and tried almost all of the salsas at the salsa bar - all really good. The restaurant was clean and the prices were fair. We will be back! read more
