My desire to try this place literally goes back to me being like 7 years old and I remember my parents stopped here on a trip back from a wedding in Hallock, MN for a late night bite as we went to the cabin on ottertail. At the time I was told I could not get anything. This memory repeated in my brain for years (if i admitted how old I am you would realize its a long time). My friend (from NM/TX) had relocated to Fargo for a 2 year stint teaching. I can usually trust her on mexican reviews. She told me this place was aweful. So my standards decreased. FINALLY after a lot of years (really a lot), I stopped and ordered a soft and hard shell taco. So that I could try it and see for myself. Well I can attest that the hard shell was quite tasty and I am kinda a fan! I did the drive through route since I always thought that was the only way and it wasn't until i was pulling in that I realized there is an inside. So I can attest, they have some good options. First off, I would ignore all those old reviews this establishment looks new and is very clean but that's not why you're going here. I had a custom-made burrito and enjoyed it. My wife had the chicken burrito and enjoyed hers. We both recommend this place and we are lucky. It's across the street from the hotel we are staying at, but please do not go off the old reviews. I always like stopping in here whenever I'm on my own for supper as their soft tacos are delicious and tonight's soft taco did not disappoint. Unfortunately my feeling changed fairly quickly. After finishing my taco, I went back up to place another order. However, when I saw one of the employees spraying stainless steel cleaner along the side of where another employee was in the process of preparing a taco, I lost my appetite. They should not be using cleaning chemicals anywhere near food, let alone next to someone who is preparing food orders. I feel sorry for whoever ended up with that food. I can not imagine that it treated very good. The owners might want to instruct their staff on when to and not to use cleaning chemicals, especially around uncovered food. read more

The service was friendly and fast. I enjoyed the chips and queso and it had a nice kick. I got the breakfast burrito with sausage, and I didn't really care for the sausage so I wouldn't get that again. They forgot the salsa but that would have been good with this. Quality is terrible now. I ordered five soft shell tacos and two orders of fries and it was terrible. I ordered meat and cheese only on the tacos and they all had lettuce in them. The five tacos all had varying amounts of meat, from hardly any to almost adequate. They also tasted like counter top sanitizer. For what they are charging they could at least put some effort into making their product consistent. This order cost $24.65. I will never return. read more

Some had a lot of meat, others had less, some had a good portion of cheese, others had less. All of them had about 3 strands of shredded lettuce which seemed an odd topping on which to skimp. Flavor was ok but some red sauce may have helped. None was offered nor was any available on a counter so I guess you have to ask for it? The Beef Enchilada with a side of beans meal...that's the standard by which this place is judged. It's my personal favorite and it's big and under $6 and on special on Tuesdays. You can get a lot of food here for very little money. I also like the taco burgers which are really cheap here. When I'm really hungry this place is one of the first places I consider eating. In this neighborhood there are several other choices, but for the money this one is well worth it. read more

There are plenty of reasons to stop by this place...here are a few: 1. You're starving 2. Everything else is closed 3. You're from around the this area, moved and you still have it in your head that this place is AMAZING. Number 3 would be my man meat of a boyfriends' reason, while number 4 would be mine. What made me question my whole experience was this gelatinous sauce they poured on everything. It's just weird. It tasted as if they just used chicken broth and added gelatin to it...idk. The food would be awesome if you were drunk off your ass or your bestie made it while bingeing on Sabrina. I have to say. I love that I can stop in and get a quick taco in a bag on the go and they have it nice and hot and ready for me in less than a minute. Speed is very good. Food is good. I love it! I do have one problem though, and that's the interior. It could definitely use a renovation. The place is small and feels kinda cramped and not as vibrant. Like a little run down. I've been here three times. I'm talking about the S. university location. The first time, My husband and I got some whack ass burritos. The second time, I got onion rings. The third time, I thought, let me just give it a try and see what the talks about and got their turkey grinder... it's literally a cold cut sand which thrown together with taco sauce that they probably got from Taco Bell. Since the new owners took over this place has gone down hill. The breakfast burrito used to be so good but they have changed it and instead of using hash browns they use tator tots. This review is for the SOUTH UNIVERSITY Taco Shop location only. I've never been unsatisfied with the food or service at the North University location. Well almost never, in over 30 years of eating there. The south side one is a different story though. Especially tonight. If I could give this place zero stars I would. The kid with the sideways cap and the pants hanging below his ass acted like everything he did was a problem. Interrupting his social media phone time. The girl making the food was fast and hasty and didn't give two craps about the product she was presenting. Their bad attitudes filled the whole store. My taco burger had stale bread, barely any "cold" meat, brown stinky lettuce, and none of the "extras" I asked for. I've been eating a "loaded" taco burger from time to time since I was in jr high. So 30 years. Today was hands down the worst I've ever had. Not even close. If the second worst one is a 70 on a scale of 0-100 this one was a 2. Not even 1/10th the size and taste of a normal one. I know it's not normally like this. I know it was the horrid attitudes of the workers that created this terrible food. I hope they both find something else to do since they clearly hate making taco shop food. read more
