This is my neighborhood go-to for a quick meal. I always order the same think - Al Pastor burrito with black beans and their habanero sauce - which you have to know about to get! The burrito is a good size, just under $10 and never disappoints. You can dress it up with queso and/or guac. Even though I don't order other dishes, I have seen them made for other patrons and they generally look good to me. This is not a fancy place, but it you are hungry - it is a great place to enjoy some street food - Mexican style. read more

This was our first visit to Tacos Trompo. Food was really good. Tacos were good and Chicken Quesadilla was also good. Was surprised when we ordered Queso and no chips came with it. Never heard of having to buy the chips separately. Queso was really good but would not order again as paying for chips that go with it is ridiculous. We will be back to try other items as they all looked good. Was a little difficult to understand them when ordering but it worked out ok. Terrible. Bland, over-cooked meat served on a cold corn tortilla with day old onions and cilantro. I ordered 4 queso-Barria tacos AT DOLLARS A POP. They didn't even have cheese on them. Horrible. read more

This is, by far, the best restaurant for soft corn shell chicken tacos!!! EVER!!! Also, the queso is to die for!!

On approach, the aroma drew us in. The music and artwork almost made us forget we were in North Dakota and not grabbing street food in Mexico... the view from the huge windows reminded us it was actually -20 degrees with mountains of snow. We grabbed 2 tacos each and split an order of chips and queso. $17 after the tip. The staff were friendly and helpful. To the right of the till is a self-serve topping bar. They will Americanize your food on request (add lettuce and sour cream) The chips are straight from the bag, so go in knowing that you won't be getting fresh/warm chips. The queso had a lovely flavor, and just enough heat to let you know it wasn't just warmed cheese. All in all, I'll probably skip them next time I come in. Which brings me to the fact that I will be back! The corn tortillas for the tacos were perfect- thick enough to take the piled on meat, touch of sauce, onions and cilantro (purist) They didn't crack or get soggy and they weren't dry either. The meat was tender, juicy and flavorful- I was tasting the meat, not the heat. The spicy guacamole was a fabulous accompaniment. The food is the most authentic and fresh tasting Mexican food I have ever had in Fargo. The service was also great. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming the entire dinner. Dining in was super relaxing with lots of seating and continued great service. Food came out quick and tasted amazing. Will be coming back again sometime soon! read more

Great food. The prices are bit high for what they are serving. However, the food is fantastic so it's worth a few extra dollars.

I don't mind the small menu if the food is prepared well, but everything we ordered was bland. The tortillas were dry. The carne asada was dry and flavorless. The salsas (red, arbol, habanero) were watery. Despite asking for a quesadilla with just cheese, it had pico, guacamole, and sour cream - all ruining the flavor of the cheese. Wow - this little place is awesome. I wanted to try one of everything but settled on a Al Pastor taco and the steak Alambres. I was happy to see the taco come out just like God meant them to be....seasoned, marinated pork. pepper and roasted pineapple. Too many places ruin a great al pastor with the americanized toppings like lettuce and cheese. The taco was presented in an amazing corn tortilla. It looked so great I even forgot to take a photo. The taste was as amazing as the look. While I doubt the pork was actually prepared on a rotisserie, it was still amazing and not simply prepared on a stovetop. These truly are the kind of tacos you would buy off the street in central Mexico. The alambres were also top notch, especially thanks to the awesome salsa bar which included an incredible habanero salsa....ooooo, love the burn. The meat was tender and perfectly cooked and peppers had just enough crunch left. The corn tortillas are served on the side which is so much better than underneath the alambres which many places seem to do. I prefer one in my hand to eat with the food, not a soggy one underneath. To top it all off the owner came out as I was finishing and gave me a free slice of a jello mold. Perfect finish. The only thing that would make this place any better was the presence of some ice cold bottles of Sidral Mundet, Lift or Jarritos. read more

In town for a meeting and was looking for a quick place to grab some take out. After checking on Yelp for reviews, I decided that Tacos Trompo might be a good bet. The restaurant was very easy to find. With the weather and roads being a bit cold and icy there were not too many people there. However, the dishes that I saw people eating looked really good. I decided on the enchiladas de rojo w/ chicken and cheese. The service was very prompt and they got my order completely correct (I left off sour cream and onions). The food was really good for being made so quickly. The enchiladas came with rice and my choice of black beans or pintos. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for cheap and quick Mexican fare. read more

I read the reviews everyone posted and was excited to finally have some authentic tacos and enchiladas. It appears though, that I will have to continue to wait. This reminded me of Mexican food for my WASP grandma. The verde and raja were bland to say the least, there was a close similarity to the sauce of Spaghetti-Os. The meat was exceptionally blasé. The sides were particularly simple and bland. I wanted to want to crave it. I miss the authenticity that came with the Mexican and Tex-Mex of Chicago The best part of the meal was the queso with the chips. Bright, flavorful, and a little heat. The service was top notch: helpful, courteous, and kind. But, I'm not sure that will be enough to get me to tromp back in for more tacos. read more

Great casual Mexican restaurant with friendly bi-lingual staff. I would describe the food as Mexican home-cooking. The prices are great and the portions are generous. There is a large TV on the wall so you can watch "the game". Large windowed store front so we left the dogs in the car and sat down and enjoyed the food. The fur kids could still see us and behaved! The tacos were good. The chilaquiles were ok. I paid an extra $2.50 for chicken which would have been better without it being ice cold. No real complaints about food and the service was great. This place will nickel and dime you to death. $2.50 for a portion of refried beans and an additional $2.50 for beans. The only platters were enchiladas served with rice & beans for $8.99.
