We're in Fargo for our anniversary and Bison football (horns up!). We're staying at Hotel Donaldson so we walked the half block to Pounds and are glad we did. Our party of 2 had burgers - the Californication and the Grail. Both had fries, upgraded one to truffle fries. We had drinks, one gin & tonic made with Bombay (requested) and a house offering - a strawberry mango fruitopia which was as fruity and sweet as its name sounds. Our burgers were SO GOOD. Highly recommend. And best of all (imo) they were not gigantic. We finished everything and did not feel like we were going to explode which we loved. (Don't get it twisted, these were decent sized meals not tiny plates. We are big eaters but there's big and there's big. These were normal big.) We had a great time with great burgers, fries, and drinks in a casual atmosphere. The place itself is deceptively big. Separate rooms/eating areas kept noise levels reasonable even in a college town bar atmosphere with TVs tuned to sports. Came on a Saturday with a couple of friends and two dogs. Luckily we were able to get a table outside. I think it's pretty awesome of them to provide sunblock on their tables. Customer service was great, they gave us a bowl of water for the dogs. My friends ordered the truffle fries, it looked like regular fast food fries, pale and skinny, but the flavor definitely brought it to whole other level. It was addictingly good! love this place! been going here for 5 years now. new location is huge! i think they must've ditched the 90's theme they were going with when i first came here, but it worked out because the atmosphere is so fun and friendly regardless. cool lighting, plants, seating, and more. great place to grab drinks and a meal before you start your night out! my friends from out of town always have to come here when they visit me :) only issue is that it's not great to doordash burgers because the fries get soft and the burger bun gets soggy even if it's a short trip. definitely get the mac if you are doing food delivery services! read more

Nice casual atmosphere with pub style food. Chose this place because they had burgers for both carnivores and vegetarians. I had the Californication, adding pepper jack cheese and omitting the lettuce. 8.5/10 on my veggie burger rating scale (the avocado was a little lost and it was MESSY!). For $1, upgraded to the truffle Parmesan fries - they were good but I had expected the cheese to be slightly melted (and therefore adhered to the fries). Ordered the fried pickles with avocado ranch but in hindsight, should have passed as it was too much food (that's what happens when you are hungry when you order!). I've kept my review at 3 stars - they're trying. But they are firing on all cylinders. We went back to Pounds after watching the episode of Diners Drive In's and Dives they were featured on. We wanted to try the Ghost Pepper wings that Guy raves about - not on the menu. Disappointed. However, we did order wings and they were very good. My three star rating is related to service. There weren't many customers, there weren't many staff but it still seemed like a bit of a cluster. Our entree items - sandwiches were typical and serviceable. nothing that's going to make me say - let's do there for a bite to eat. I will come back and try more wing flavors. Since in the heart of downtown seems like they accommodate lunch crowd with the burgers but from what I could tell seems like they get a big crowd on weekends with the locals and live bands. Spots got a alt rock goth kinda vibe. Funny chalk quotes all over the walls few couches tables and games. I just wanted to grab a burger for lunch was hoping for a bison burger but saw bacon and bbq so I was happy with the one I chose. I like spicy I'm ok with eyes watering a little snot but not when it's just because they doused it in cayenne pepper powder. Had a handful of beers on tap and decent liquor selection so I could see how locals would dig the spot. If I came back I'd ve willing to try another burger but nothing to write home about read more

Really good burgers, really good craft beer selection, really comfortable ambiance. If you're downtown and hankerin' a burger, you should already be inside ordering. Poutine was meh. The hand cut fries are cut too thin to sustain the gravy and the overall combo is not as flavorful as a poutine could/should be. The brussels sprouts were good, but not great. Same for the chicken fingers. The burgers, on the other hand, were all that. Very flavorful, good size, good texture. Service was attentive and friendly. read more

I got to try their hoisin wings, Brussel sprouts, poutine, and Sunset Rider burger - all were fantastic in flavor and portion. I forgot the name of the martini that I ordered, but it tasted like pink bubblegum! What I thought was especially nice about the service at Pounds is that when me and some friends went, there were two guys at a different table who were pretty drunk and obnoxious (knocking over chairs and yelling and such). Although it wasn't her fault whatsoever, our server ended up comping all of our drinks, which was a really nice gesture. read more

always loved pounds. today went to pounds after pub crawl. we showed up and asked for a table for 10+ we understood this was a big group. the host/server asked "are you going to split up" I said yes whatever we need to do. she then asked if we were intoxicated. of course the answer was yes. she then said it would be at least a 30 minute wait and I told my group she didn't want to seat us because we were intoxicated. she started yelling at us to "get out." I will never return to pounds and my group of ten felt the same way. absolutely ridiculous to be treated like this. do better. read more

Pounds has been one of my go to bars/restaurants for quite a while now. I've never had a bad experience in the four years I've been going there, whether I have gone for lunch or for a night out. They have great food, great drinks, a fun 90's aesthetic, good music, and some of the friendliest staff in Fargo. I like it because you can come here for lunch with family, a date night, or a night downtown. I'm a big fan of their mac and cheese and the cherry lime cooler fruitopia. My boyfriend has been getting the sunset rider burger for years and he says it's one of his favorite burgers he's ever had. I always recommend pounds to friends and family who are from out of town because there's something on the menu for everyone, including vegetarian options. read more

When we arrived at Pounds I realized I had a mistaken impression about what kind of place it was. The previous two establishments in this location were fancier, pseudo-upscale places, but Pounds has more of a dive-bar vibe... so we were a little nervous about whether we should have brought our teenager for a family dinner. Our nerves were quickly calmed however, because Alex gave us great service, refilled our drinks promptly, the food came out quickly and was delicious. Pulled pork sandwich, a spicy burger with jalapenos, and a couple other things... all really good. Fries were especially good in my opinion. We were driving from Minot, ND to Madison, WI and hit Fargo up for food. We usually go to a German place down the road. They go to 21+ at 4pm tho and it was 415pm. Pounds didn't go to 21+ until 5pm. I read several reviews about amazing lobster rolls. I was skeptical but salivating, and sold. If you've ever been to the coast, you're probably picturing buttery lobster meat heaped onto a warm, crusty, yeast roll. Don't. They are actually lobster egg rolls. They're pretty tasty, but I was a little heartbroken. We actually got the appetizer combo - everything on it was good - lobster egg rolls, handmade chicken strips, and pretzel bites with beer cheese soup. MY 4 STAR RATING IS BASED ON BURGER JOINT TO BURGER JOINT COMPARISONS - ABOVE AVERAGE! The main menu is burger focused. There's a varied selection, including some interesting choices, and each of us had something different. We went with the Nooge (traditional bacon cheeseburger), Orange Windmill (orange balsamic mushroom burger), & whatever one the Dr Pepper BBQ burger is. Each was cooked perfectly. All came with fries and we opted to pay the extra buck for parmesan cheese and truffle oil. The fries were a bit soggy, presumably from the truffle oil (?), but had a nice flavor. We had a local sour beer (yum) & the ugly sweater (yum again) - both were quite good. Service was spot on. Zero concerns! While we haven't been swayed to switch from our usual place, we did enjoy the variety & will visit again. read more
