We stopped by on the way from North Dakota to Minneapolis and we had such a nice time! Jamie was our server and she was so kind and attentive. Our food was great and came out quickly! We're from North Carolina so I don't know if we'll ever be back but if we are, we'll definitely eat here again.

Daily special. Can't remember the name but had some awesome spicy sauce. Ordered with a side salad that put all other side salads to shame!

This was a cute find! Service was friendly and helpful with suggestions. I tried the daily special but wish I would've tried that salmon salad, next time!

Baby, it's cold outside! You know what I'm sayin'?! Gotcha worn down cabin fever winter blues gotta get outside and get emancipated from the negative news burnin' up the tubes. Oh! I got the place for you, my brothers and sisters out there in the iskald ørken. Maybe you find your knuckles gettin' dry from scoopin bone stock from the Le Creuset sittin' on the ol' Franklin Stove. Maybe you got the itch to have someone else tend the fire for a bit. Well, lemme lay it out for you this way. I am your mid-winter, suppertime advocate. I am your cuisine counselor. Grab your boots and let's go! Where? Purple Goose Eatery and Drinkery, a tiny gem of a kitchen nestled comfortably downtown in the sprawling Barnesville, Minnesota Greater Metropolitan Area. I know what you are thinkin'... "Do they serve food and drinks"? Well, lemme tell ya that, despite the tricky moniker, Purple Goose Eatery and Drinkery is actually a GREAT place to find food and a beverage. My understanding is that Purple Goose exists as a product of the benevolence of a well-to-do local resident. Hats off to whoever is keeping the candles lit in this little shop because it is definitely a diamond that in all honesty... ain't too rough. Purple Goose Eatery and Drinkery is actually a very, very nice little grill. This bird got itself a doozy of a menu. It ain't too big and it ain't to small. You can trust that the food doesn't just fall off the back of a freezer truck. I'll tip you off to my selections. When my finger touched the ol' map, it was pointin' right at a starter called Duck Wontons. Being ignorant of such refection, I decided I better sign up on the line up. Duck bacon with corn and cream cheese in a crispy pastry shell, served with Thai chili sauce? Duck bacon is the closest I have ever been to pigs that can fly and I must allow that to happen, for sure. Coming up second, I tapped the brisket on Texas toast because almost every human on Earth knows how I love the BBQ. The kitchen whipped up my victuals with a quickness and it got tossed in my face pipin' hot from the hands of a capable hash slinger. The duck wontons looked amazing, though I did have to let the ol' stopwatch do a couple laps 'cuz those little fried quackers were crazy hot. A juicy lookin' sandwich with a heapin' haystack o' teamin' fries. Hot, delicious food so welcome during these cold days. Let's cut to the chase, here. Purple Goose Eatery and Drinkery kinda come outta left field for me and it caught me with a blindside. This place is really good and the service is worth writing a review over. From the economics department, you are gonna take a little hit, but small towns can kinda getcha in the eelskin. Purple Goose Eatery and Drinkery compensates for the cost of logistics by given a guy a fair deal on portion sizes. You are gonna see about 8% over market on the tab, but it is well worth it for the superb offerings and the great service! If you happen to fly into Barnesville International Airport and you gotta couple hours layover to burn off before you catch the connection to Oslo, I recommend a stop at the Purple Goose. It's a kid-friendly kitchen of comestibles that'll make make your tastebuds give a standing ovation. Lemme squeeze one more jabbering out at'cha. Listen, folks, it's cold up here in Santa's suburbs. These people gotta suit up and make the trek to work so that you can have the pleasure of expert-grade grillin'. Someone is gonna do the footwork to make your visit cozy like a spot in front of the hearth. That someone is your server. We gotta come together to make sure these unsung heroes of the hospitality industry don't freeze a pinky toe. Let's keep the heat on by peeling a few extra presidential firelogs off for your wait staff. If you can afford to play, you can afford to pay. Tip 'em well and let 'em have a good start to 2020! Be awesome!

Dee's Drive In - Bacon cheeseburger and onion rings

After years ohand-batteredf seeing the sign on the interstate and simply driving past, I finally stopped in last week and tried them out. I'm glad that I finally did. A sign in the door stated that they would be closed tomorrow for their daughter's graduation - this truly is a family run operation! The bacon cheeseburger was hot and, while probably recently frozen, was pretty good. Little or no seasoning, which makes sense for where this place it - you don't want to offend any sensitive Scandinavian palates! The bacon was marvelously crispy, and the lettuce and tomato were crisp and fresh. The onion rings were very good considering they weren't fresh and hand battered. Some of the best I've ever had considering the venue. I'm still a little upset that I went with a small malt and large soda - I should have gone the other way. The caramel malt was awesome. Last but not least, I grabbed an ice cream sandwich for the road. It too, was very good. "Just made by my girls yesterday" according to the dad/cashier/host. Next time I'll get the dipped one!!!

Come to find out they close at 7 and we won't arrive until after 7:15. I just want to advise that you're losing a lot of business from those traveling home after the weekend or even those who work in the FM area traveling home. - not to mention there's a more commercialized ice cream option down the road for those of us who may want a burger or ice cream after 7PM.

The service is always friendly and our orders were ridiculously delicious. The Swiss Mushroom Burger is my forever favorite and I'm obsessed with their onion rings. Everything is simple but done so right. I also really appreciate how thoughtful their packaging is - each burger comes in its own box with sides of ketchup, mustard, pickles, and napkins. It's such a small touch, but it really makes you feel taken care of. And the ambience? Adorable. It's like stepping back in time. A totally vintage feel and full of charm. We usually sit outside on their benches with lakefront views and string lights overhead. Just a heads up, payment is cash or check only. Can't recommend this spot enough. Already counting down the days until my next Maple Beach Burger fix. Until next time!!

Maple beach has great burgers and it always seems busy. The food comes out in a timely fashion. The seating is primarily outdoors ( maybe only outdoor since the pandemic). Rustic with some picnic tables. The owner / chief cook is rude, always. The best you get is ambivalent. The folks that help him are always courteous - I would rate this a 5 if the cook would smile once.

It gives off the vibe of a sports bar but also a place to sit and have a casual meal. The fried pickles came out hot and crispy and they were wonderful! Even after sitting and munching on them after 5 minutes the ones that were still in the basket were still warm. The PB+J burger was amazing! It has a nice little kick with every bite you took. It had the perfect amount of spicy that wasn't too overwhelming. The BBQ wings were also very good! Cooked to perfection and had the perfect amount of sauce on them. The cheese balls were really good but had too much cheese in each bite you took. The cheese balls were also much larger than what we were thinking they were going to be. Roughly the size of a golf ball. The service was splendid. There was one waiter and bartender working while we ate but you wouldn't have guessed that by how fast our drinks and food came out. Our waiter was very attentive and checked in on us, while waiting on every other table in the building. If you are passing through town this is definitely a place to try out!
