These guys are phenomenal! They really know their stuff. Speedy, efficient, very knowledgeable and professional. Sean has come to my home on more than a few occasions over the last several years including this latest time - last week Monday. A year ago the chain on my Sears door opener snapped, so I called Sears thinking: who better to deal with this situation than the folks whose name appears on the device, right? Yeah, well, even though in years past Sears had come through for me on service calls for other units, this time they didn't. The tech that arrived informed me that he didn't have the correct size chain in his truck, and that the rail on my unit was shorter than the newest models. His suggestion? Upgrade the ENTIRE unit at a cost of $500+!! No way! A new chain and rail seemed similarly cost prohibitive. So, we agreed that he would sell me and install the longer chain and let's see how that worked. Turns out that it worked "okay" for over a year (the chain drooped awkwardly and clanged against my outer door when opening and closing though which was annoying) up until last week when the door wouldn't close properly, and it started to open/close sporadically. Not good for early morning winter departures! Rather than call Sears this time, my instincts told me to call Capital Garage Door. Great decision!! Sean arrived @ noon on Monday to assess the situation. Told me the chain was the problem. Told me a new chain and rail would cost me $265 and could be installed the next morning. His colleague "Talia" at their office called to confirm the order later that afternoon and sure enough that next morning @ 10a one of their techs installed a new chain + rail in under an hour and I'm in terrific shape once more! I SHOULD have called Capital Garage Door LAST YEAR instead of Sears and saved myself that $180. No more SEARS for me. I'm sticking with Capital Garage Door! Update 1/14/17 Garage door spring broke yesterday. Sean was prepared to come fix it yesterday, but my schedule wouldn't allow. He arrived as promised today before 8a... replaced both springs, $385. If there was a zero star, I would have clicked on it. Sean showed up, looked at the motor, pulled a part out and told me the circuit was fried. He also said since my unit was made in 2005, I would have to buy a new unit. It had to be Liftmaster and it would cost between $600 and $800. I said it was not in my budget that I would have to save up for it. I am angry because if I had the money I would have paid for something that I did not need. I decided to do some troubleshooting on my own when my friend assured me that the circuit was not fried. If it was fried, the motor would not work at all. It attempts to work and then gave 10 blinks. I got on youtube.com and I was able to determine the problem in less than 30 minutes, and I'me not even a garage door technician. The wiring that was connected to one of the sensors was loose, and the one connected to the motor was also loose. Eagle locksmith and Garage door came to the rescue. I only had to pay $75. I'm not sure if this is company policy to rip off hardworking people or Sean is just too lazy to make repairs. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!!!!!! Sergei, Katerina and the team at CGD did a really nice job. The technicians were extremely professional, knowledgeable and provided accurate information at each step of the way. Should note that the day the techs came to install the frame, they had to wait out a 30-40 minute thunderstorm which they had no problem doing, worked late (it was dark when they finished) and the work was still top notch. Got an appointment for between 9 and 11am and quite frankly we were annoyed when 11:30 am came and no one showed up. As I was ready to call them to inquire when the service man would show up, he rang the door bell. The repairman was very apologetic for being late and informed us that he actually called the office to get our number because he personally wanted to call us and let us know he would be late, but they gave him a wrong number. I guess things like that happen. Can't really blame the guy :-) Anywyay, he did a great job. He tuned up our very loud garage door and improved few things all around. We can barely hear the garage door open and close and I am sure the neighbors love us now. Additionally, he left us a can of lubricant to keep the rollers working smoothly. I would highly recommend Capital Garage Door and will be using them again. read more

He also mentioned that there are no charges for service calls in case I need a repair. So far I haven't needed it because everything works great, but always good to know! We had our garage door break at night, trapping two cars. I called and was told they would be over as soon as possible. Within 20 minutes, Sergey showed up. He was extremely polite and professional. This company cancelled my appointment one hour before they were scheduled to arrive on two separate occasions. What should not be understated here is that people rearrange their schedules to be home to meet contractors when work is scheduled. One time is forgivable. Twice is simply poor customer service. I will find another company to install my garage door opener. read more

The technician came promptly and installed two new springs for our two garage doors. Unfortunately he did not check to ensure the doors would retract if they met resistance. We had a home inspection a few days later and the garage doors flunked the inspection because they did not retract properly. Now we have to pay for a second visit. A simple check the first time he came out would have solved the problem. read more

The technician, Sean, showed up on time but insisted that I needed a new door opener after literally looking at it for 10 seconds. The door was having trouble closing and was "buckling" on its way down. I questioned his diagnosis and he insisted 100% that I needed a new opener for a total amount of $600. I had another company come out. They pointed out that the door needed a strut support that was causing the buckling and a sensor wire was bad that he fixed in 3 minutes. The obvious thing was the connection where the arm meets the door was being held on by one bolt instead of 4 and metal was twisted from the strain. I got the strut used for $60 and fixed it myself. The door opener is still running fine, the problem was with the door, not the opener. A new opener would have done nothing to fix the problem. read more

Be careful. I called to have a check up of my garage door, the bill was around $50 for the tec to look it over and spray WD 40 into the joints. He then tell me I should repair the mechanism, they are rusted and will have to be replaced, soon. A additional $150 plus labor. He comes back again and said another piece should be replaced $100. At that point I said no. The mechanism that was replaced shows no sign of rust or damage. If anyone wants to perfectly good garage door mechanisms let me know. read more

I called with a concern that the tension spring was the wrong size for the door (learning this after a year tune up with another company on Angie's list and also neighbor with same townhouse size spring) and how long the warranty period was. Also, the other company showed me 8 rollers were changed but 2 were not and left on by Capital. I only realized this now. Man on phone informed that warranty is 2 years. I only had it for 1.5 yrs. He goes on about if it's been working then why am I complaining. Well, it's very important because the spring is working harder to pull up a door that is heavier, like my wood garage door, and that could wear down the spring prematurely. Also, the door does not easily lift when on manual release and does not hold up to balance which I tried to tell him. He was very confrontational, defensive, and rude and had the nerve to tell me to let him finish when he cut me off from explaining. Instead of acknowledging my concern, he was loud, abrasive, and told me the other company wanted to upcharge and sell me things. He was almost screaming at me on the phone through it all. Then tells me if he gets out here to check and I do not have my invoice, he will do nothing for me. Ok, they don't keep invoice copies? The most unpleasant, unprofessional, and demeaning experience I have encountered by a person who is in the service industry! Perhaps they do too much volume, do not elaborate or explain things before, during, and after installation or when you call back. Then why be in the people business? It's about people, not just their pocketbook and garages! If I were not under warranty, I would never use them again nor would refer any person to. Get another company on Angie's with a well-run front and back office, good manners and treatment of ALL customers. Also, one that does not hassle you about finding your invoice in order to honor their warranty and work or when you call with questions. **Follow-up: After the weekend and the stress of that Fri call, finding invoice from Jan 2014, the Manager, Eddie, called me Mon morning. Eddie was very polite, professional and listened. He said he would send someone out in a few hours. Apparently, it was a dispatcher whose name I did not get that made the experience horrible. Tony, a tech, arrived Mon am and explained everything regarding the torsion spring, how they check the door to make sure it is correct, and some parts (wires/metal) bracket do not need to be changed. Tony was great! He also found out that my door went up by itself occasionally because of a rope still on the door and cut it. Eddie and Tony and a lady that takes call really redeemed it for that 1 employee. That meant alot and perhaps I will think about them again in the future...if Tony comes. read more

Giving one star b/c the technician was great. But the estimator never called to say when he was arriving - he just showed up around the time he said he was coming. Ok, no big deal. But I negotiated the repair price and told him I had a groupon. When the technician tried to use it he was told not to do so - that I could either use the groupon OR the negotiated price. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this company. We used this company to fix our old garage door and they did a good job so when it came time to have our garage door replaced we gave them a call. First, they sold me a door style and color combination that doesn't actually exist. I figured this out within a day after I couldn't find any evidence in the brochures I was given or the website that the door existed. Thinking they would realize their mistake when they went to order the door, I waited for them to call me so we could work it out. They never called. Thinking maybe I was wrong I actually called the garaga distributor to see if the door exists. The very nice people at garaga confirmed my suspicions that the door did not exist. I waited a few more days. Finally after 4 or 5 days I called Sean at Capital Garage to see what was up. He said he ordered the door but he would investigate and call me back. It took him a really long time to call back. When he called back he said that the garaga company was having an issue with producing the door in the color that I wanted and they temporarily stopped production (a lie I'm sure). Since I already put down a deposit with them I decided to change my order to a different door that I knew for sure actually existed. The door came in on schedule and we scheduled installation for a Saturday. The day of installation no one showed up at the scheduled appointment time. I called capital garage to see what was going on and left a message. The installer called me back and said they couldn't install the door that day because it would take several hours and there was not enough daylight left. I had to call the office back on Monday to reschedule. So FINALLY the door was installed. Installation went fine. The installers where very nice and did a great job. Fast forward two months... The door which was originally whisper quiet is now screeching and making very loud noises. I called the office on Monday to schedule an appointment for Wednesday. Two hours before my scheduled appointment they cancelled and did not show up. So, now they are supposed to come on Friday to look at the door. We'll see if they actually show up. But this whole process has been a disaster. This company will lie and clearly has issues with scheduling. read more

I had a very good experience with this company. They arrived within 2 hours and the 2 technicians were very kind, polite, and informative...as were the service agents that took my original call. The techs installed a new LiftMaster unit within 30 min, put a new key pad on and explained the warranty info in full detail. I am not sure how the company competes on price, it was expensive-- But I did not have time to have another company come to give me another bid. I'm extremely disappointed with this business. I had an appointment for a garage door tune up on Sunday. The time given to me was 4-6 pm. I was called at 5-5:30 to let me know the tech would be here closer to 6. The tech called me around 6 to say he would be here around 7. I had plans so we rescheduled for Monday. I asked him to be here at 5. He called back to confirm that he would be here 5-6 pm. At 5:30 I called the office for an update. I was told that the receptionist would contact the tech and call me back in a few minutes. My call was never returned. I waited as long as I could and then left to run my errands. The tech called me at 6:15 to say he was at my house. No call was made to let me know he was on the way. This business is unreliable. My time is precious to me. The installers were very professional; however, there was a big problem with scheduling and communication from their office staff. First - they gave me a 2 hour window of 8-10 AM - which was supposed to be a first appointment for the day. Since I never received a confirmation call, I called them about 9AM to confirm and was assured that they would be there by 10AM. 10AM came and went and I called the office again. I was told they would be here soon. The arrived at 11AM. The completed most of the work but did not take the old garage door and didn't have the correct windows. They said they would come back later that day. They didn't come back. I called the next morning and was too they would be there to finish that day. Again - no one showed, no one called me. This went on for 3 more days. Work that was supposed to be done Sunday morning was finally completed Wednesday evening. After they left we discovered the nails and screws left from the old garage door were still laying in the front lawn. We cleaned that up because it was dengerous. They were not low bid. If they were I would have been more OK with the service. The garage door works well. It was installed properly, so that's not an issue, I didn't like having my old garage door laying in the front lawn for 4 days and their office staff doesn't communicate.
