The Maple Kitchen - SHRIMP WITH LEMON ORZO

You would never expect such a amazing restaurant to be located inside a hotel... But it is!…read more We stayed at the Holiday Inn Club Vacation Mt. Ascutney for a week and decided to have a low-key night and have dinner at the onsite restaurant, The Maple Kitchen. It was a slow Sunday night and no reservations needed. The restaurant only had the bar tender manning the bar and the tables. He was very nice but the wait was long... luckily we were in vacation mode so we didn't mind the wait. While we were waiting for the food, we were enjoying the Moscow Mule made by the bartender. He poured all his drinks to the rim, it was great! They only had 2 things on tap: Switchback ale and Harpoon hard cider, but they were solid brews. It took about 45 minutes before our entrees were served and we started to think this may be a mistake. Boy were we wrong in the best way. The lobster bisque dip came with 2 rolls of warm bread already buttered on the outside...soft center with the creamy dip spread over it was so scrumptious. The lamb chop was cooked to perfection and had a orzo chickpea side that can be a main dish in itself. The duck was cooked with crispy skin on, very tender and also came with a delicious rice pilaf. We also had the half chicken breast dish which was perfectly seasoned, juicy! Came with a mushroom and spinach stir fry and mashed potatoes was more like creamy scalloped potato. We were completely stuffed but wanted to try a dessert because the food was just amazing. We shared a raspberry white chocolate cheesecake that did not make it in my photo because we finished it so quickly. Definitely come here, you will not be disappointed.

First of all the bar was not stocked, the dirty martini was so dirty it needed a shower. Basic items like ice tea and lemonade were unavailable. Bud Light was not in stock either. It was a quiet Friday night, about at 20% capacity, service was slow. The meal took about 45 minutes to service. Although flavorful the lamb chops were anorexic. The short ribs, were a little on tough side, and lacked flavor, the portion size more consistent with a small plate menu than entree. Good restaurants are in demand in this area; however, this was another missed opportunity.

We stayed at the Jackson bed and breakfast and this restaurant is attached, which worked out well. There was one night where it was too cold and we didn't want to go back out, so we stayed warm inside and walked over to O&E. Very easy and comfortable. They have a bar area and also a sitting area with a fireplace. Very cozy for a winter getaway. We had both dinner/drinks and breakfast here. Everything is curated well without losing flavor. Sometimes meals can be too fancy and you leave confused and hungry - "what the heck did I just eat and why was it only 2 tablespoons?". This place made pretty dishes with recognizable ingredients. Everyone was very kind and accommodating. The perfect, memorable spot for a vacation.

We tried many items on the menu and found all of them prepared perfectly . We started with the bao buns and found them as good as what he would be served in Hong Kong. Everything was exceptional, but we both found the lemon and honey Labneh truly amazing . The Hamachi Crudo was a great palate cleanser as we moved onto our main course of the halibut in the house made gnocchi . Every dish was perfectly balanced in flavor and artistic in presentation. The dining room is beautiful and we look forward to next visit and maybe we'll save room for dessert . For a brand new restaurant everything was flawless, including exceptional service from Wendy and the team.

We were looking for a nice place to eat after skiing in Killington (~30 mins away) and managed to get a spot at the bar the day of. I highly recommend calling in advance since they have a lot of regulars that I'm sure will be coming here for the last couple of weeks they stay open. You can order food as a 3 course prix fixe that includes an appetizer, house salad and an entree or you can do à la carte but they do not write the individual prices on the menu (so just be aware if cost is a factor). Food is definitely on the pricier side but food was good. We especially enjoyed our entrees -1) Carté d'Agneau Royale ($10 extra): grilled lamb wrapped with mushroom duxelles and spinach in puff pastry and 2) Duck Breast with a Blackberry Basil Hayden demi glace. I'm not a salad nor a bleu cheese person, but their house salad was surprisingly good! While we were dining, we noticed the bartender, owner, waitresses, all knew their customers by name, asked about their families, and had amazing customer service. You could really tell that they really do care about the people.

The hostess was incredibly personable and sweet. I'd had a crap day and really just wanted a beer. It was 5 minutes to close. I figured it wasn't going to happen, but I figured I'd look at their draft menu for the next day and get an idea of what I'd want to eat when I come back. Not only did they take great care of me and get me a MUCH needed beer, but when I came back to eat the next day it got even better! I couldn't decide which beer I wanted. The girl was SO nice and gave me half of each. Good call, because I definitely liked one more than the other! Now HERE is the BEST PART: the worthy burger. Sweet Jesus. I heard angels. Seriously one of the best burgers I've ever had. Ever. The bun was perfect and THOSE PICKLES! The cheese was perfectly melted. Just the right amount of secret sauce. Did I mention the pickles were amazing? I also ordered truffle fries with Parmesan and a kid size order of the Mac and cheese. Because real cheese. They weren't bad. The truffle fries were on the milder side, but tasty. Maybe a little soft. Pro tip: get the pesto aoli to dip! I like homemade Mac and cheese and I hardly ate more than a few bites. I had heard great things but eh. Maybe I was just in love with the burger! I didn't get a picture. My phone died and I couldn't wait do yourself a favor- get the worth burger with some extra pickles on the side!

Upon arrival, the hostess said they did not have any tables or reservations. She was super accommodating and was able to move some things around. My brother had a lemonade. We started with an order of calamari. I then had the chicken parm while my brother had the ribs. He swears it was the best he ever had. I got a piece of carrot cake to go and ate it when I got back to our hotel. Everything was fresh and delicious. We even got a surprise as a train passed and shook the whole dining room. We were happy to listened to him that the half portion is a good size for 1 person. Between the 4 of us, we ordered steamed mussels, half speghetti and meatballs, half chicken ala vodka, and grilled salmon. Before dinner, we were served with warm bread with maple butter - that was sooo good. All the dishes were solid, but our fav was the homemade strawberry apple crisp. They hit it out of the park, delicious!! Even with the half orders, we still had leftovers of the speghetti to take home. Reasonably priced, you won't be disappointed.

For dinner I got the GF buffalo cauliflower starter (has a vegan option) and it was so good. The spice level was perfect and it was made really well. The owner and management were inside talking to customers at the entrance. The ambiance is chill, friendly and with good music. About a third of the tables were full, with a full bar against a wall in the middle of the room. Great beer selection that included some great local brews. We tried their crispy wraps which reminded me of the old days when Chimichangas were menu staples in a now gone chain.... Our server was nice and she told us her favorite dishes ands I took her recommendations and it was superb. A welcome addition to Woodstock. We used to stop at an iconic coffeehouse and restaurant on the town center but it's got so busy recently that the 30-minute wait isn't worth it. Especially when we're on our way to Killington or Okemo. We may have just found a fav place.
