While I've been spending an awful lot of time recently working on cleaning out my recently passed father's home, I knew it was supposed to rain today and decided to skip visiting Putnam County in favor handling some legal and logistical issues. This included a visit to the Post Office to complete my father's change of address (Boy, that's a loaded concept when the person has actually passed). While a change of address can typically be handled online or via a simple form, when the person is deceased it actually requires an in-person visit. Since I was on the northwest side of Indy, I opted to visit my old stomping grounds and went to the New Augusta branch at 84th and Moller Road. This is a large branch in an office/industrial park area. I won't quite say it's hidden, however, it's definitely set apart a bit. This branch offers self-service kiosks, PO boxes, gift cards, greeting cards, domestic money orders, inquiry money orders, mailing, pickup, business, and biometric services (by appointment). They do not offer passport services here. As you pull in, you go left if you just want to drop off mail. To the right, is a nice-sized parking lot with a couple accessible spots. There's an appropriate ramp, of course. As this is an older branch, there's no automatic doors. There are actually three doorways to get to the area for help/customer service - two at the main entrance and one separating this area from the self-serve areas. The counter is also not ADA friendly as it's much higher. The good news is that the employee I worked with was pretty awesome. She helped me with the form, got the necessary copies (if you're doing a change of address because of death, you'll typically need at least the death certificate and likely the probate order indicating you're the personal representative for the estate - this is why it has to be done in person). I watched the employees interact with customers and was impressed. They were timely, professional, friendly, and I appreciated that they reminded customers of a price increase coming up. I'm disappointed by the lack of access. It's pretty significant. However, the customer service was good. Overall, I'd say this was a solid mid-range experience. It didn't blow me away. It also wasn't really negative in any way. It was a solid middle-of-the-road experience. I'd easily go back as this branch was definitely quicker than the Nora branch and there was an overall helpful vibe. I got in and out quickly and got everything I needed done - plus, the employee told me exactly what I should expect in terms of timelines. read more

I want to give a shoutout to the young gentleman at this location. He consistently goes above and beyond to ensure a positive experience for customers. I would happily wait longer just to work with him because he always seems to be well-prepared and provides exceptional customer service, which is the best I've ever encountered at a post office. read more

I frequent this post office because it is hidden in an industrial park area and seldom busy. The facility is one of the larger ones in the area with full service, self service, boxes, and retail products for packaging and mailing. They even carry a few greeting cards and a nice selection of boxes and packing materials. I like that they have a complimentary tape dispenser for closing up your boxes ease peasy. The staff ranges from 5 star helpful and friendly to 1 star annoyed by you. I generally try to use the self service feature at the post office as there is easy in and out and you can avoid the 1 Star interaction. There is plenty of parking and a drive up box for a drive-through mailing of letters. The lobby is frequently messy compared to other branches nearby. read more

The automated machine is great for buying stamps and mailing small packages. I try my best to do everything I need to do via that machine rather than get in line in the main office. At least the main office is staffed until 7PM, but even when the line is short, the wait is long, and I always feel like no matter what I'm there for, that it's something that is a huge bother to the staff. This is not the place to come if you're in need of smiles, greetings, or any kind of warm fuzzies. I actually heard an employee yell at a customer for walking the longer rather than shorter way around a table to get a form. Yikes. On my most recent trip I needed to pick up a certified letter. As noted above this seemed to be a huge bother to staff, and it took a rather long time for anyone to find my letter. In fairness, the person who finally came out with my letter apologized for the wait, and noted there were a lot of letters back there. I'm guessing they were in no particular order. Sadly, I will likely continue to cringe every time I have to resort to that full service line, but do love that 24 hour automated machine. read more

This place is unbelievable! The woman behind the counter was one of the rudest people I have ever met, all I asked is if she would let me use tape to use like 12 inches of tape and she told me only way I could use it is if I bought the tape!! Then she picked up her phone and started texting with me standing there! I didn't want to send priority and she was almost offended cause of it! I don't know what her name was but if someone from this post office reads this the time is 3:30 pm on Wednesday May 18th! Tell her her attitude needs adjusting big time! And stay off her phone texting while customers are there! Avoid this post office if at all possible just horrible customer service! read more

The service at this location is terrible. 10 to 15 people waiting in line with one person working the cash register. Then we had 2 to 3 post office workers walking around asking if people had pick up drop off or anything else and everybody kept saying no. Those two workers could've either been working the cash register or asking each individual person what they were doing and what they needed to be done to confirm and check the process. More than half the people didn't have the right information which stopped and slow down the process every time creating hey back log of people. They need to understand what customer service is. read more

I can't believe I'm actually reviewing a post office, but I am. The location is clean and not as busy as Nora. I was able to find the paperwork I needed and it didn't take long to get thru the line. The gentleman that helped me was friendly, fast and he made me laugh. Got my business done and was on my way to my next stop. read more

Good place to mail my letters and stuff here. They always provide good service. Good COVID 19 practice too.

The employees were very sweet & attentive. One employee, saw me looking puzzled on which package should I get. She helped me as I waited in line. When it was my turn, the front desk rep had a smile on her face & asked me how was I doing. I love when people take the time to ask that. Yesterday was a blah day for me so when she asked, it truly cheered me up a little. They were pretty fast too. I was in & out in no time. read more

This is not the worst post office. Their employees are actually friendly. However it is chronically understaffed and dirty. Do NOT go at lunch time. The line is at least an hour at that time. If you can, use the automated machine. You can mail or purchase almost anything there. But do not go here if you are in a rush. read more

Like all post offices, they never seem to have enough employees actually working during the bust times. My biggest complaint, however, is that my mail carrier consistently delivers my packages to my neighbor. I've reported it at least a half dozen times and nothing has changed. I don't want someone to be fired, but if their job is to deliver mail they need to be able to deliver it accurately, especially after getting feedback that they're not doing so. read more
