I don't usually like to be that person but I had to come on here This was the second time I tried getting food here and it wasn't good:/ It's way over priced especially when your food comes cold, bland, not fully cooked and soggy. So today I'll go with 4 stars. Everyone I've come in here the service has been amazing. Even when I forget something they are super accommodating. Today was different though. The employee was willing to ring me up cause I forgot to order a meal to dine-in. I get it, it's my fault. The interesting thing is the manager on the line told her she wasn't allowed to do that. This is the first time a man share at this location was accommodating to a small ask. I know it was 100% my fault. We were just trying to have the family eat at the same time with a little ones being apart of a big group. Mind you the order was going to be for one hotdog. We live in TX and visit the Phoenix area every now and again. First time at Portillo's and WOW hubby was so happy with his Chicago dogs. I had a burger, loved the charbroiled taste. Fries were crispy. Would absolutely go again. Service was great, restaurant was clean. Recommend! read more

We really enjoyed our experience here. Order consisted of 1 regular beef, 1 beef & sausage both with hot and sweet peppers. Gravy on the side. Large onion rings with a side of cheese, and the best part...the chocolate cake shake! All 5+ stars. Soooo delicious! They were friendly & kind to us. The place is super cute & clean with all kinds of vintage gas station items. So much fun. Cannot WAIT to go back! * side note: We arrived shortly after they opened around 10:45. No line for us. But by the time we left around noon, it was pretty packed. And we went on a weekday. Be prepared to wait a bit if you go during peak hours. But I assure you...it's worth it. read more

I've tried them 3 times and hotdogs have no taste, the last time I ordered smoked sausage and it was burnt. I asked to hold onions and they didn't give me the relish. In my hotdog with everything they must have had bun sitting with topping on it as my bun was so soaked I couldn't pick it up without it mushing in my hand. You all give a bad name to the Chicago Dog! My family visited the San Tan location this evening. We ordered some Chicago dogs, a few beef sandwiches, breaded chicken sandwiches, fries, chicken tenders and the whole chocolate cake. We spend quite a bit. Here's our review: - Chicken Tenders = Greasy taste. Did not like them. - Fries: Good - Beef sandwiches: ok, not super great, but at least they had some taste. - Hot dogs: Mushy bun, not too much flavor. - Chicken Sandwiches: Decent, nothing to write home about. - Polish sausage sandwich: A bit dry, again - nothing to write home about. Friendly staff, clean. I thought Portillio's was supposed to be special, Chicago food experience? The overall meal was ok, chocolate cake was good, but would not order it again. You literally have to have the intelligence of a moron to be employed here. I placed my order, they read it back and it was correct. I get to the window (after waiting forever to get my food) and the order is wrong. It takes the person at the window forever to come back (she disappeared). I lived in Chicago for over 20 years. I have ordered more different types of hot dogs then I have colored socks. I ordered their number two famous meal, large, one chili, dog, one chili cheese, dog, a Chicago style hotdogs, and a large fry. My receipt, as you will see in the photos is the most nondescript receipt I have ever seen by a business, and it is very misleading. The manager tried to tell me that a chili dog and a chili cheese dogs are the same thing except a chili cheese dog has onions, whereas a chili dog does not. I have never heard such a BS in my life. If I order a chili dog, I want a hotdog and chili if I order a chili cheese dog I want a hotdog, chili and cheese. However, the receipt reflects none of that. In addition, she said they're famous number two or all their famous meals are called meals on the menu, but they are not reflected as meals because they are rung up separate on the receipt. This is effing ridiculous, and what business can operate when a customer doesn't know what they have in their bag. Will never return to this establishment again Because they were not only rude, but looked at me as if I was the one that was in the wrong. In addition, the moron in the drive-through did not get my Chicago style hotdog placed on the original order which I had to repeat to him at least three times. My car didn't work and his reader, for whatever reason in their cashless drive-through, which is supposed to expedite things, however it works just fine inside which having to jump out of my car to fix the order because the receipt is in accurate cost more time than if I would've had cash in the drive-through. Avoid this restaurant there is a do haus right across the street at Santan mall and they know exactly what a chili dog and a chili cheese dogs are supposed to have on it. read more

I really like the old fifties diner feel and the music. The the Big Italian is really tasty and messy as heck. Grab your extra napkins if you have it dipped. They need to give you bibs for the sandwich. I had the hot dogs last time and they are really good. I'm from Chicago and have been a fan of Portillo's for over 30 years. This new Gilbert location does not meet their standards in any way. Food quality/quantity/taste is poor, and the young staff doesn't care one bit. Go to the Tempe location if you want real Portillo's. I feel very misdirected and ripped off by my experience at the Gilbert location last Sunday. I let Portillo's corporate know, and they did not care. Heads up. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

HORRIBLE AND UNPROFESSIONAL COSTUMER SERVICE. We went to drive through and asked for our 3 large frys containers to be fully filled since they like to skimp out on filling them all the way and we were told "i can't tell that to the cooks, they'll get really annoyed". So apparently asking the cooks to do their job is unreasonable. When we got home we looked at the frys and they were double fried, greasy, hard, and NOT EDIBLE. We asked for refund and have not gotten one yet. We called back and we spoke to another "assistant-manager" David and said he would've refunded the full order but since it was the next day he couldn't. The whole meal was ruined and not enjoyable AT ALL. Chicago is disappointed!! read more

Love it. Hot dog, chili dog, burger, cheese fries, combo, beef and cheddar are just as I remember. Portillo's isn't my favorite Italian Beef, but it's the best I know of out here. For the people that are unfamiliar with a Chicago Italian Beef, you need to get the french bread dipped, or at least half dipped. It's supposed to be soggy. read more

Husband ordered his usual combo with mozzarella, hot peppers and extra beef. I ordered the chicken sandwich with pickles, lettuce,tomato and mayo. Repeated the order to the cashier and she schooled me on how to order the chicken sandwich more efficiently the next time by saying chicken sandwich with pickles. We find a booth and have a seat. It was not busy around 2:00 p.m. we get the order and i open the sandwich to find it didn't have the cheese on it. Husband takes sandwich up to window, the guy looks at the receipt and says they will make a new one. Husband looks at his combo, whoops no sausage only meat. He brings that up to the window they look at the receipt yep you ordered a combo. Proceed to make a mew one. He is handed the newly made chicken sandwich. I open it to find now it only has pickles on it. Husband goes to window to let them know it is even less of the sandwich ordered. He is handed his new sandwich. It has some American cheese on it along with the mozzarella and hot peppers and the dry looking sausage. By now we both are chuckling at the ridiculous sandwich issues He is eating his sandwich. Goes up to the window because now it seems to be taking a bit longer for the third chicken sandwich. He is handed the sandwich. I open it and it is correct. So my wife and I thought we would try this restaurant to see what all the hubbob was about. It's big and well-decorated and the staff is friendly. Honestly, I was not particularly impressed with our hotdog meal. Mainly, the length of the dog was similar to a store purchased dog. The dog's length was the size of the average sized bun. Bottom line, I could have purchased a bigger quality dog from one of the warehouse stores nearby wirh a drink for just $1.50. read more
