We visited with our family when we were in AZ for my son's volleyball tournament. Our extended family are huge fans of Portillo's, and they usually get the Italian Beef or one of the salads. My grandson ate a little of everything! I ordered a breaded chicken sandwich that was very good. My son didn't care for his cheeseburger (he's a picky one). The hubs had Italian Beef and he said it was just ok (he's as picky as our son). Tasty fries and onion rings. Good shakes. The line was very long, but it was their grand opening. And honestly, they got our food out pretty quickly. I'd absolutely go back and try more of their menu items, including the Chicago Dog which looked delicious. read more

I grew up with portillos so happy to have one close to me again. The standout dish for me was definitely the Italian beef sandwich - the meat was juicy and flavorful, and I appreciated the generous portion size. However, when I received my sandwich, I noticed that the bread was cut very poorly, which meant that the meat wasn't enclosed by the bread. It wasn't a huge deal, but it did make the sandwich a bit messier to eat than I would have liked. read more

Brand new in Gilbert az. We went for the first time today for a midday lunch. I cannot tell you how underwhelmed we were. This is a huge place with lots of seating for hundreds. The counter staff very pleasant. The facilities were clean and attractive. The food not so much. The Italian beef sandwich was more like tasteless boiled beef with water for sauce. The chili dog was mediocre and I have to say Costco's 1.50 dog is 5 times better. The frank itself seemed to have a plastic covering, very hard to bite I would say it's the worst hot dog in town read more

This was the second time eating here. We did a pick up order and it was ready on time and everything was accounted for (but not prepared correctly). Which was great for a family of six. That's where the positive experience stops!! 2 of my kids double cheeseburgers were BURNT to a crisp!!! That's 4 patties that were totally overcooked!!! NO one noticed this?? My husband's chicken salad was gross. It had a weird taste that was combined with spicy. 2 of my kids ordered spicy chicken sandwiches & they thought it was just ok. My Italian beef sandwich was cold, had a soggy bun & also didn't taste very good. The beef was bland, no peppers & very little cheese (both of which I had to pay extra for)!!! I took 2 bites & couldn't stomach anymore!! I ended up eating some cold mushy fries for dinner which are overpriced by the way......food here is NOT WORTH the price or your appetite being spoiled!! If I want a chili cheese dog and onion rings I'm going to Portillos! 1st don't get the regular dog. You have to get the jumbo dog to get the meat to bread ratio right :) I like my onion rings well done. My family LOVELOVES their chocolate cake w/chocolate frosting. My Hubbs loves their burgers and our kiddo get the chicken tenders. Something for everyone. Their salads are good to as well as their pasta. It always pretty clean inside and a good amount of seating. read more

Ordered their famous hot dog and it was just a greasy rubbery mess. It came out luke warm and luke warm greasy with burnt bits was just a terrible combination. Felt Like I was eating the crud that accumulates at the bottom of a fryer. edit: Hah just found out it was supposed to have mustard on it and it didn't. Just disappointing at best. Just left without eating or ORDERING ON THE skip the line kiosk 4 th attempt to order. You can't delete an item once rung in even w/o paying. My burger mistake was: one customized with jus KMO was $9.68. Same with grilled onions $6.98? No one to help with kiosk. I left after 4th attempt. Meanwhile the line I skipped was moving quickly. Came here with a friend who said I had to try this place because it's so good. She got the Italian beef and sausage sandwich but in a bowl... it looked ok lol. I got the chopped chicken salad and was bummed it was breaded chicken instead of grilled but I was starving so I ate it anyways. I didn't use any dressing since the ranch was foul. I'm really picky when it comes to ranch and this ranch was not the business but luckily the salad was still good without dressing. Ordered through the drive through two wet Italian sandwiches with peppers, fries, and drinks. When we got home the sandwiches were very dry beef and sausage (not what we ordered), no peppers, cold fries, still frozen in the middle and flat Dr. Pepper. Yeet! While watching UTube videos I came across The Portillo restaurant one featuring the chocolate cake shake. I knew I had to try it. So I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich meal. The onion rings were so delicious. The cashier was so nice and helpful. The employees all seemed very happy. The place was very clean. The food was super yummy! I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the dining area. The building size is deceiving. When you walk in you realize that it's much larger than expected. This is a fast food joint with an open floor plan and plenty of booths and tables to sit at. You give your order at the counter and wait for your number to be called. It's loud with customer noise and chatter. Don't that scare you away the Big Italian beef is very good, you can get it with spice or sweet peppers. I like it spicy and it was just right for my taste. The onion rings are hot and crispy, the chili cheese dogs are very good, the Chicago dog is hard to mess up so that's a good go to. read more

We have visited Portillos in Tempe but this was our first visit to the Gilbert location. We were able to walk right up to the counter, no long lines, and order. The cashier was polite and confident. We ordered the crispy chicken sandwich combo with fries and a drink. The crispy fish sandwich, the Maxwell street polish sausage, and onion rings. Everything was super delicious! The chicken sandwich was okay my son said but my daughter loved the fish sandwich, I tried a bite and it was very tasty. My polish sausage was topped with a generous amount of caramelized onions, yellow mustard and served in a poppy seed bun. This may be one of the most delicious things I have tasted in a very long time! The portion is large, the cook on the sausage is perfect, the onions are perfect and the bun is soft. The onion rings were delicious as well. Super crunchy and tasty. The only negative comment I have it that it was HOT in there. Like it felt like there was no AC on. My daughters cheeks were red she was so hot. It was over 110 out so they need to crank that AC down so guests and employees are comfortable. Otherwise everything was pretty great and we will be returning soon. read more

It's okay, loud, wobbly table, crunchy but tasteless onion rings, Chicago dog was good. But it wasn't as good as the Costco cafe, so there's that. The dipped sandwich was flavorless. The water tasted like they didn't sufficiently rinse something after cleaning, and you have to ask them for more water in a tiny cup. For soda we didn't try for a refill but if they do the machine is behind the counter and you'll have to wave someone over for more. It's a one visit and done for us. read more

I was craving a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings and Portillo's hit the spot!! The onion rings were cruuuuuuuunchy and the burger wasn't greasy like other places, it was clean and tasted fresh. The drive through line was really long and we opted to go inside (still a long line). This location just opened up and I'm sure like their other spots around the valley I am sure it will be poppin! read more

Typical Portillos! Great food, great service & great atmosphere! You would definitely think you're in Chicago while hanging out at Portillos in AZ. I was stoked they opened one a little closer to us. We love hitting the drive thru and grabbing Combo sandwiches and cheese fries. The kids they have working their window are hilarious. The kid inside the window and the hand off kid standing outside were having a conversation about "scoring chicks" right in front of me like I wasn't even there lol. I was really disappointed. Maybe we didn't get right stuff but we were not impressed at all. I have always been told that a different location that has been there for a long time was the best so we were excited when we saw one opening by us!! The french fries were ok. The basic hot dog was ok. The chicken sandwich was ok. Just not 5 star which we expected. But still ok! The staff was friendly! It may be that they just opened so they are still figuring it out a little. We will probably try again but not for a while. read more

Somehow, it's not the same at all. $12 al pastor burrito, $12 carne asada fries, and $5 Sonoran dogs. A price tag I'm willing to pay if the food was as good as DT Mesa but it's not. It's not to say that the food was bad but I don't see myself popping in here when I can go to the cozy DT Mesa spot. This is a spacious location and I'll give them that. It's on little days like these where showing gratitude to our local businesses is needed. For my #ThankYouThursday, I wanted to show some Yelp-love to Micky's Hot Dog. I first had Micky's at their Downtown Mesa location. While I do believe that location is still much better, this place isn't bad. This second location is in a more spacious spot and there's more seating. The Sonoran hot dog tastes different but it wasn't bad for the price. I would pass on the $12 carne asada fries though. The salsa bar has some standard offerings. I'm glad they were able to open s second location. I wish them much success.

They accept cash and credit card. Something I wasn't expecting was the nacho cheese (like Velveeta) on the nachos. I'm used melted shredded cheese. Also, take a look at the menu. When you say with everything, it includes mushrooms which I wasn't expecting. I would go back for the hot dogs.
