A hidden gem in the valley! Loved coming to this little library. The staff was very helpful & we were able to find a good selection of books we were looking for. The space was clean and plenty of parking in the lot. This is a smaller library than others I've been to in the area. But they have a good selection and a staff that is knowledgeable and friendly. They're especially great to my 3 young kids. You can tell they're always excited to see young people in eager to read. The location is also very unassuming from the outside. Honestly, I had driven by it dozens of times before even realizing it was there. Out of the corner of my eye, it looked like it was just part of the fire station that's next door. Because of this, if you're not paying attention, you can easily drive by without realizing it. The parking lot is also very small and with tight spots so be prepared to have to park along the street (which is a hill) and walk in. That, or just go during 'off hours' during the weekday if you can to ensure there won't be a ton of people in there. One of the highlights to this location is a large meeting room. They have tons of community events for just about everything under the sun. Be sure to check out upcoming events to see if there is something that strikes your fancy. However, just don't set lofty expectations. I took my kids here for an event (I don't want to call out what it was because the librarian who put it on did seem to have great intentions) that was a total dud. I think it just wasn't planned through enough and or she was just overwhelmed by the rambunctious, loud group of young elementary school kids who showed up. I don't want to say don't take your kids to children events here. Our experience very well could have been a one off. Just set you expectations accordingly. These are events planned and put on by the librarians. They're not experts in any particular field and they are bound by the resources at hand. So, in all, if this is your local library, it's a nice one with a good amount of things to offer. However, if this one is a bit out of your way, I would maybe say just stick to your local branch. Remember, if they have a book here that you want, you can always have it sent to your local brand for free. That's the joy of LA's massive public library system. read more

I met a friend who was at the library. I have driven by a thousand times but never went in. The library seemed like a time capsule in regard to the building and interior furniture and design and yet seemed so modern with the computers available to use and the calendar of events full of all kinds of events. There was so much information on neighborhood events, classes and community resources. I signed myself up for a free basic first aid class. The staff was very friendly and patient with all my questions after all the last time I was in a library was probably 20 years ago. My friend encouraged me to get a library card. Small parking lot and has story time on Wednesdays at 10:30am. In the summer they have a reading program for kids and even a summer activity schedule with bubble guy, magician, arts and crafts etc. Those days do get crowded so get there early. They take place in a different room in the library. Overall, good neighborhood library. read more

All the staff, except the library manager, are very nice. This library is small but has a pretty good selection of books, CDs, and videos to borrow. Several children and their caregivers/parents come in after school hours for tutoring so it can get a bit loud, but it's not too bad. read more

A library should be the perfect place to visit to get some work done, and for the most part they typically fit the bill. However, this one is plagued with two problems; terrible Wi-Fi and loud kids. The "free" Wi-Fi is worth every penny! It is simply atrocious. There's barely enough speed to play a low-def YouTube video, and the connection craps out every 20 minutes. There are plenty of other places to get free Wi-Fi that actually works. And if you are here after 3 PM when the kids get out of school you're in for a special treat. It seems as though the staff have been told not to say anything because the noise goes unchecked, and it feels more like a playground than a library. I'm also amazed at the inability of the Mothers to hear their own kids or have any consideration for others. Oh, and parking sucks. read more

Don't come here to study! The librarians and help desk people talk like its not a library. Don't get me started with the carts they push around. A lot of people bring their kids here. So basically, its more of a playground with adults pretending its a library. If you're coming to check out books it works! This review is more for the people who need a place to study. The librarians are so loud. It's ironic there's a term called "library voice" and the people who should know it most don't follow that. And since the librarians are loud, people that come here think it's okay to be loud too. Awful library. So I decided to try and study here today, terrible idea. The common conceptualization of what a library should be is not this place. What bothers me more is that the patrons who visit are not the problem for the most part, sure the occasional child asks a parent a question, a parent comments on behavior, etc. The problem here is the staff. They are loud and inconsiderate. The asian man at the checkout is nice, speaks at a lower tone and seems to mind his manners. There was a middle aged woman at the information center that was obnoxious and loud, please keep it down. If I can hear you through my ear plugs at the other end of the library, your loud! Further, the women in the back room, we can hear you arguing about who's turn it is to make coffee. We don't care unless you are serving it to us. In a nut shell: The STAFF is LOUD and INCONSIDERATE. It not wonder the library system is upside down, don't complain when you loose your jobs-you never did them properly in the first place. read more

Not the best library if you want peace & quiet. The library itself is relatively small and the interior is not optimized for sound dampening. You can sit anywhere in the library and if someone drops a pen, you'll hear it. Sounds just travels throughout the entire library. It's even worse if you sit close to the entrance/exit and check-out counter. Conversations just bounce off the walls. People here don't seem to grasp the concept of being quiet or being in a library; that goes for both patrons and workers alike. Whispering is non-existent. Since when is it okay to talk in regular conversation volume while in a library? Come here if you don't mind constant background noise. Maybe I just came on a bad day. Whoever works at this library needs to be fired ASAP! You would assume a library would be a quiet area suitable for studying, well, not the case here. The lady with the rolling cart that squeaks - invest a new cart? I'm sure the city can afford it. They are very inconsiderate of those studying since they have lengthy and loud conversations over the phone and with each other. Also, the people who go there DO NOT realize it is a library and NOT a coffee shop. On two separate occasions, I had 2 people sit behind me and have a tutoring session. One was for learning English, so you can imagine a foreigner trying to pronounce words out loud... and the other was having a tutoring session with a kid who had his phone going off for 30 minutes beforehand. Great place to study and accomplish your work. Friendly and helpful staff. The parking lot has limited spots which can be tricky to find a spot depending on the time of day. However, there is ample parking along Tampa Avenue! Nice place to focus on your work and plenty of tables available. read more

I like this place. They have events every Wednesday. My wife and daughter like it. And they have a lot of Korean books and Chinese books.

I was having a great time at the Porter Ranch Library doing my school project until I ran into the unfair lady at the front desk. It was my first time going to a Los Angeles County Library so I had to fill out a form to get a library card. I put my address as the current residence where I live right now (an apartment). She asked for identification so I provided her my driver's license. On my license, it shows my aunt's address since she's my guardian. The lady told me that I was only allowed to check out 1 book out of the 3 I picked out since the addresses didn't match. I asked her if I could change it to the address on my license (which is where my aunt lives) and she said no. I wrote with a pencil that the library provided so I could easily have changed it so I could check out the 3 books. While I was asking her to change it on the paper, she kept typing away at her computer to register me while completely ignoring how I felt about the situation. So she gave me a "courtesy card" which means I can only check out 1 book. Sorry, Porter Ranch Library, but I believe that anyone and everyone in the community should have access to books because in the end, no one cares where you live. This place blows. I won't be coming back after I return the book I checked out. read more

Although I only spent a few minutes in this library I found it to be clean, quiet, and the staff super friendly and courteous. We came in a few minutes, note literally few, like 2, before closing to return books due that day and pick up a book I had put on hold. At this point I realized I had forgotten my library card at home. No problemo. Gave the gentleman my ID and he quickly located my book as well as letting me know that two of the books due that day were not in my pile. He quickly renewed them so that I would not incur a fine. Awesome and many thanks. Not sure what experiences people have been having here but I definitely did not mirror any of the rude personel, and trust me, I would have been rude if someone had come in two minutes before I was closed with 13 returns, a check out, no library card, and a renewal right when I was ready to go home. This library is located in a pretty nice area. The people who go to this library to study or read, are for the most part quiet. There's a gentleman who works there who talks obnoxiously loud. You would think staff at of all people would whisper. Nope, not this guy. I wear bose headphones while I study and I can still hear him. Other than that, this place is good for me to study. Staff is pretty friendly overall. Compared to other libraries, this one seems to have less kids if that sort of thing bothers you. read more
