The Oviatt Library is so pretty at night
    Lauren S.

What a beautiful, historic Library. The Oviatt Library has been here for as long as I can remember. I use to stop by the Oviatt Library when I was in middle school and high school to look for resources. The Library is a little outdated but still has a lot to offer. There are study rooms, computer labs, printers, scanners, resources, tons of tables and chairs, helpful librarians, and even a Freudian Sip. Overall Whether you need to get work done, meet with a group, or just simply want to kill some time I suggest stopping by the Oviatt Library and getting lost. Tip Free Wi-fi for students

Located right in the middle of Cal State University Northridge, this library is a great place to check-out (get it, check-out, LOL!). Whether you are researching, in need of the Internet, or just want to sit in a quiet place to catch up on reading, this library has plenty of space (not to mention air-conditioning!). Plus, they are open 7 days a week, sweet!

My first interaction with this person was with a friend. My friend parked her car in the parking lot and we get out of the car, and this woman comes out and tells her " can you park better?" It was incredibly rude. On top of that, the parking wasn't even bad, however, if it bothered her, there were less aggressive ways to go about saying that. My latest interaction with this individual happened about a month ago. I went in to check out a book, and I stayed at the tables reading. The security person stood at the end of my table and just looked at me, and that other library visitors who were not doing anything inappropriate. She put her hands on her waist, so that's already an unfriendly and potentially aggressive pose, in terms of body language. This person just seems to really get off on power trips. Go elsewhere.

The space was clean and plenty of parking in the lot. For more popular books, we were able to put the books on hold via the app (which is a bit clunky but to no fault of this branch) for pickup here once available.

They're especially great to my 3 young kids. You can tell they're always excited to see young people in eager to read. The location is also very unassuming from the outside. Honestly, I had driven by it dozens of times before even realizing it was there. Out of the corner of my eye, it looked like it was just part of the fire station that's next door. Because of this, if you're not paying attention, you can easily drive by without realizing it. The parking lot is also very small and with tight spots so be prepared to have to park along the street (which is a hill) and walk in. That, or just go during 'off hours' during the weekday if you can to ensure there won't be a ton of people in there. One of the highlights to this location is a large meeting room. They have tons of community events for just about everything under the sun. Be sure to check out upcoming events to see if there is something that strikes your fancy. However, just don't set lofty expectations. I took my kids here for an event (I don't want to call out what it was because the librarian who put it on did seem to have great intentions) that was a total dud. I think it just wasn't planned through enough and or she was just overwhelmed by the rambunctious, loud group of young elementary school kids who showed up. I don't want to say don't take your kids to children events here. Our experience very well could have been a one off. Just set you expectations accordingly. These are events planned and put on by the librarians. They're not experts in any particular field and they are bound by the resources at hand. So, in all, if this is your local library, it's a nice one with a good amount of things to offer. However, if this one is a bit out of your way, I would maybe say just stick to your local branch. Remember, if they have a book here that you want, you can always have it sent to your local brand for free. That's the joy of LA's massive public library system.

Okay, so maybe after 4+ decades in the SFV it's about time I got a library card! LMAO…read more I was recently welcomed to a book club and thought all my excuses have now lapsed. The escape of my childhood could also make a wonderful reprieve from adulting. NOTE: This branch will be closed February 9, 2025 and reopening Monday, April 13th. We are told a new paint job is in the works, but this obviously much loved and worn branch could use a bit more sprucing up. Tina welcomed us in and got us set up with new cards celebrating 100 years of Los Angeles City libraries! A card for the wallet and one for the keychain. She was also very kind in setting aside a State Park pass for us to return and grab before the branch closes next week. A State Park Pass is good for 1 car and only at designated State Parks. So plan ahead if you want to take advantage of this benefit available to library card holders only. Tina let us know the pass, like books, are lent out for up to 3 weeks. Sweet! We look forward to utilizing this amazing resource now that we've tapped into it. My book group are eager to see "Wuthering Heights" after the book read next month, so I already know the first classic I plan on checking out. Cheers! "CC"

Even though it was "strange," it was actually pretty good. On the other hand, the Master's in Screenwriting was just awful. It was a terrible experience, with bad and unprepared professors, an all-white faculty with zero diversity, and a department chair (Mr. Jared Rappaport) who seemed completely lost and had no idea what he was doing. The entire body of professors was terrible--aggressions and lies everywhere. I had two classes that were repetitions of courses I had already taken as an undergraduate, even with the same professors. Additionally, during my thesis examination, one of the three professors who were supposed to give me feedback did not read my script. As a result, I only received two sets of feedback instead of three. Beyond that, my experience with the credentialing program at CSUN, under the Michael Eisner School, was equally disappointing. The lack of commitment, disorganization, and unprofessional behavior throughout the process was unacceptable. Communication was poor, requirements shifted without clear guidance, and there was little accountability. It is a terrible place to pursue studies if you expect seriousness, professionalism, or institutional support. In summary, I paid for a Master's degree that honestly taught me very little. I learned far more in the screenwriting courses I took at Los Angeles Valley College than in the CSUN Master's program. And if you are thinking about "networking," forget it. The network you can get from that institution is honestly BS. I do not recommend that program. Look for a more serious institution if you want to learn and feel genuinely appreciated. Do not pursue the Master's in Screenwriting at CSUN.
