We have a storytime on the first and last Saturdays of the month at 10:30am. In October, however, we will be closed the first week and have rescheduled storytime for the second Saturday of October.

They're especially great to my 3 young kids. You can tell they're always excited to see young people in eager to read. The location is also very unassuming from the outside. Honestly, I had driven by it dozens of times before even realizing it was there. Out of the corner of my eye, it looked like it was just part of the fire station that's next door. Because of this, if you're not paying attention, you can easily drive by without realizing it. The parking lot is also very small and with tight spots so be prepared to have to park along the street (which is a hill) and walk in. That, or just go during 'off hours' during the weekday if you can to ensure there won't be a ton of people in there. One of the highlights to this location is a large meeting room. They have tons of community events for just about everything under the sun. Be sure to check out upcoming events to see if there is something that strikes your fancy. However, just don't set lofty expectations. I took my kids here for an event (I don't want to call out what it was because the librarian who put it on did seem to have great intentions) that was a total dud. I think it just wasn't planned through enough and or she was just overwhelmed by the rambunctious, loud group of young elementary school kids who showed up. I don't want to say don't take your kids to children events here. Our experience very well could have been a one off. Just set you expectations accordingly. These are events planned and put on by the librarians. They're not experts in any particular field and they are bound by the resources at hand. So, in all, if this is your local library, it's a nice one with a good amount of things to offer. However, if this one is a bit out of your way, I would maybe say just stick to your local branch. Remember, if they have a book here that you want, you can always have it sent to your local brand for free. That's the joy of LA's massive public library system.

Then as the weather was drifting into May Gray coolness, we wanted to go to the Chatsworth Library for some indoor quiet time. That branch was closed at the time, having renovations on their HVAC systems. It wasn't that far to get to Northridge, so we checked out that location. We found a convenient parking place, then a clean restroom inside. Then it was time to visit the children's section in the back corner. What a delightful time for 6 year-old SG. She was in reading heaven. She browsed the racks, picked out several books at a time, then found various places to snuggle up with her finds. Dear Hubby happily found the magazines and started reading on his own. There are tables and chairs, and also computer desks near the kids' area, so we could be close, but give SG her space. I was checking work email for a while, and then Yelp reviews. The layout and design features of the children's section are very charming and create a cozy atmosphere. SG was excited to learn that she could have her parents get her a library card so that she'd be able to check out a certain number of books and take them home for a time. A library fan is born! I told her about when I was a kid on the first day of summer vacation I would ride my bike across town to the library and come home with a basket of books to read. That was my ritual throughout the start of the summertime. Read, read, read. Go for a swim, get something to eat, then read some more. Simpler times!

I'm well versed in all their methods because I've been subjected to them. These techniques are being used too often. They are too practiced and methodical. There's a stark contrast in culture compared to neighboring public libraries. The supervisor is a Karen. She has hand picked staff that are supportive of her behavior. She had trained them to coordinate her oppressive protocols. I will document all actions taken against me: be they open or covert. I will voice them publicly and at local city council meetings. The library belongs to the people. The library of all places should be inclusive. There are kind library ushers Working at this library Who are more suitable administrators. Support your local library!…read more This is a fantastic library. They have books, and lots of them in various languages. They have lots of other media, such as magazines and DVDs. Can't find what you're looking for here? Good news! They have interlibrary loans that come pretty quickly. The staff have always been pleasant and helpful. One downside is that this is a pretty small library, but since you are able to request loans from other libraries, it's not so bad. If you're on the tech side of life, get the Libby app and connect it to your library card. You can borrow e-Books and audiobooks straight to your device, as well as some magazines. It's also a great way to monitor your library account. One other downside people may consider, is the unhoused population around the library. I go here often and have never been bothered by the people there. They are usually minding their own business and hanging out side. Cute and cozy little library.

We moved from Lanterman into NLACRC and that process was awful with how long it took- at an age where my son's needs were so critical and ABA was so important. With that said- it wasn't the fault of the RC that we moved. It would be great if they improved the transfer time. I am mainly writing to say that I have a caseworker that is helpful. She responds to me right away by email. She sends me random resources for autism that she comes across out of the blue. She empathizes and listens and she offers up what she is authorized to. I recently got kicked of MediCal and I needed a paper from RC and she worked with me to get it in one day. So, for everyone that isn't having good results, maybe you should ask for our social worker- Devorah Stark- because she genuinely cares about helping me and my son. I feel lucky to have gotten her after reading folks stories about other workers. Sometimes I forget that Yelp can be used to highlight the GOOD and not just the challenging people we encounter. While our previous experience was positive, everything changed when Diana Ramirez was assigned as my son's service coordinator. Accountability and consistent care are supposed to be foundational at NLARC, but Ms. Ramirez appears to selectively choose who receives help. She previously denied my son critical assistance--only for a higher-level staff member to step in the very same day and provide the exact support Ms. Ramirez claimed "wasn't done there." Recently, when I needed a crucial document signed and handled, the pattern repeated: prolonged ghosting, unreturned calls for months, and ignored emails. Front-desk staff, the diagnosing doctor, and officers of the day have repeatedly had to step in to help because Ms. Ramirez fails to perform her basic duties. While her supervisor, Jennifer Thurm, was kind and took accountability for the mess, organizational failures cannot be swept under the rug. Vulnerable children and families depend on these services, and the systemic lack of responsiveness and fairness by assigned coordinators demands immediate administrative review and public transparency.

They don't go every Thursday evening; just depends what's showing and what else everyone has going on. We checked it out and saw "Inside Out 2" with them several weeks ago. That led to us learning where to park, what to bring, and where to find the lawn in front of the library building where the movies are screened. It's a great family event. Several food trucks come for the event. (I'm told the prices are high!) You can bring your own food. The price of admission is just right - free! If you can luck out to find street parking, that's free, too. The walk is long, though. We park in Lot 33, which is closer to the lawn area than street parking. Four hours in the lot is about $8, which isn't too bad. The parking app / kiosk is painful, though. I especially struggled with it last night. The WiFi inside the parking structure is almost non-existent, so using the texting feature can be challenging. Last night it was "Toy Story 4". The graphics and sound volume were much better than for Inside Out. However, about half way through the movie something happened to the video playback and only audio kept playing. The organizers' spot isn't easily identifiable, so it took a few minutes before the situation got fixed. Then one of the side lawns had the sprinklers start to go off before the film was finished, so everyone over there was scrambling to pick up their stuff and get out of the way of the sudden showers. Someone came on the intercom at the end of the movie and thanked everyone for coming and apologized for those two little glitches. The organizers create a nice event feeling for the participants. Overall, it was still a pleasant evening spent with the younger generations.
