This is an absolutely beautiful and spacious library. From the Spanish-style arches and tiles to the airy open space and sections, it's clear that so much thought was put into this public library. It is so well-loved by locals and makes the community feel much closer. The children's area is massive and designed so that they can use their imagination to the fullest - there's actually a pirate ship right in the middle for story time! I love that the library holds weekly events for families to come together and promote the magic that is BOOKS. I also love that there are programs for more senior patrons in Camarillo. Whenever I need a quiet, focused, work session that's not at a coffee shop I go to the second floor of the library and can find others who are there for the same reason. There are so many tables with outlets- small and large, and even study rooms to reserve. The staff are always friendly and happy to help with any questions. So if you haven't already, I would definitely recommend making a visit! Happy National Library Week! Beautiful library with AMAZING, kind, knowledgeable staff. The only reason I cannot give the camarillo library 5 stars is because the private company that operates it, LIBRARY SYSTEMS & SERVICES, underpays its employees and I sincerely worry about anyone's ability to support themselves while working here. It seems like the majority of workers at the camarillo library are paid minimum wage, and full-time librarians with a Masters degree are offered $23 an hour, which is 45% less than the California average. Why are these public employees being paid so poorly? Honestly, so disappointed that the City of Camarillo has decided to renew its contract with LS&S without addressing this issue. The library, its 5-star workers, and its patrons deserve so much better. read more

This library just recently opened after a prolonged shutdown due to the pandemic. It is undoubtedly the nicest public library I have seen in Southern California. Not only is the architecture nice, but it is immaculately maintained throughout. I have also found the staff there to be very friendly and helpful. They have an extensive DVD collection available for checkout which even includes quite a few blu rays. Finally, don't miss the nice book shop which is right near the front entrance to the library. They have a great collection of used books, magazines, CD's and DVD's available for sale at bargain basement prices. You can also drop off any tax deductible donations you wish to make there as well. read more

There is seriously no better place to sit down and read a book or study. The kids section is amazing with murals from various stories as well as a pirate ship...I mean seriously a pirate ship!!! The first thing I said when I walked in yesterday was "holy shit where even am I right now." Let me tell you why.... In all my life living in Ventura County, I have never bothered to come here. I live just down the street from Oxnard Library so that's where I've gone all these years. I feel so robbed never having visited the CL. My niece made me take her and I'm so glad she did. First of all it's massive. Like a damn museum massive. Almost like a university library. I was overwhelmed. It's fairly obvious that they have a nice budget. You go Camarillo. There's a cafe. Yes, a cafe. It was closed yesterday, but I'm looking forward to coming back to check it out. The space itself is well organized. I love the layout. It has a great flow and not at all cramped. The staff are great. I made a list of what to look for and couldn't figure out where to find the books so I asked the lady upstairs who went and got them for me. I almost felt like I was bugging her, but she was super nice and accommodating. And lastly, they actually have the books I was looking for. Every time I go to the Oxnard library I always look for new releases and they never have it. Books that are even 6 months old aren't in their system. Boo. But not in Camarillo. They have at least 2 copies of the books I've been looking for. Well done you Camarillo. Well done you indeed. This is officially my new spot. Why for the love of God do the employees never tell ANYTHING to these noisy rambunctious little brats to stop screaming and running around like little hyenas?????!!!!! If the parents don't correct them, someone else will. How difficult is this concept to understand??????? Teach manners to your kids or someone will in a second and they won't like it. This library is the best one I've ever been to! On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays they bring in therapy dogs so the kids can read to them. My kid has never been as excited to go to the library as she is now! The setup at the library is great. Things are easy to find, the staff is awesome and super helpful, the selection of books and a/v materials is amazing. Overall great experience! read more

This is an absolutely beautiful public library with a cute toddler and children's section. I took my 19 month today for toddler time which usually occurs on Mondays from 10 to 11 AM. During this time a couple of children's books gets read followed by singing and dancing and then arts and craft. My toddler loved it so much and so did I. They even have a separate section with a handful of toys for the children to enjoy afterwards. The library appears well-kept and clean. There seems to be a section for young adults amongst other sections. Right outside the library is a small bookstore in the books inside are well priced. I saw children's book ranging between $.50 to three dollars. Overall I would definitely return to the Camarillo Public Library even though it's about 20 minutes from me because it's such a beautiful library and well worth the drive. I would definitely recommend this library to those with children looking for something to do in Ventura county. And of course best of all, this is all at no cost. read more

The facility looks great but I always go for the quieter library. I prefer to go to any of the two Oxnard libraries instead. The sound at the Camarillo library travels a lot. It seems that every time I go, every single seat in the quieter areas is always occupied. So you're stuck in the middle of the noise. Unless you happen to reserve a study room hours in advance. I have no trouble getting a study room in any of the Oxnard libraries on a walk in basis though. Sure, there are fewer homeless people in the Camarillo library but what is the point if you can't get any studying done? read more

So I had a call that came through since I was looking for work, and it was to schedule an interview. Woman with glasses and shoulder length hair tells me to take it outside, even while whispering. Didn't tell the other women at the table talking loud to be quiet. Then I return to sit on the corner of the floor while reviewing a book. She tells me I can't sit there due to fire hazard. All tables were taken and I was just reviewing the book. I couldn't get a study room so I had to open my laptop for a zoom interview, but looked for a designated area where I wouldn't bother anyone, she comes up to me and tells me I can't do the Zoom there either. Unable to afford wifi/internet, and looking for work, but being as considerate as anyone can be, and she was literally tailing me. An adult telling an elder how to behave at the library, but those joking around, running and being loud, she does not say anything too. read more

This is one really nice library (compared to the Oxnard Public Library LOL). It seems really massive and its creative architecture makes me feel like I'm going into a dungeon or to an old-fashioned castle :D They even have a ancient looking ship for the kids story time section! There are not that many study rooms in the library: 2 on the first floor and 3-4 on the second floor. The one I studied in with my two classmates was pretty small with a antique rustic-looking rectangular table with its matching 6 chairs. But really though, the room was only comfortably spacious for 3 with our backpacks than 6 at a tiny table :( I try to be cautious with any snacks and water I bring seeing that they have a sign for no food or drinks at the entrance but cooome on, you know we'll be in the library for hours to get some work done and if we don't eat, we'll get hangry (hungry + angry). You definitely don't wanna see that lol Would love to return to this library again but it was kind of a drive from Oxnard and unless you get a study room (first come first serve), then it's worth it :) read more

We just moved here and I LOVE taking my kids to this library! It is beautiful and they have such a fun children's library. The staff is so helpful in helping us find the books we're looking for. My only complaint is their ebook and audiobook library is slim to none. I'm still using my old library card on Libby because the books I want are never available with this library. read more

I'm a regular local library user for work and pleasure. This is a beautifully planned place, but the immediate response is YOUR NOSE when you arrive and immediately smell black mold in the air. Either the books or the old wool wall to wall carpeting or the air heating/conditioning system air filtration problems. I'm sensitive to such environment contaminants from bad or badly maintained (not changed) air filters. It caused me an asthma attack and a trip to the emergency room. I was on my inhaler for three days after my visit. never going back. BEWARE ! DANGERGOUS AND TOXIC TO VISTORS AND USERS ALIKE. read more

The bathroom situation has been resolved. We have had great experience in the library since. The variety of children's book is really good. The dvd section for kids is good too. Note many dvds don't play right. The staff is all very friendly and very helpful. Side note if requesting to hold something don't just leave your name make sure they put it on the library card. I can back same day and it was not there nor did I find it on the shelf. read more

Camarillo Library, like the city itself is, not always as it's beautiful contemporary Spanish style facade would appear. Over the years the "New" library has been kind of quirky, giving me mixed feelings, to say the least. The employees attitudes are sometimes a little off-putting. I realize that nothing is perfect in life, but how difficult can it be to sort books and visual media properly? I had borrowed several DVD/Blu ray movies, (5-6), from the Camarillo Library and when I was done watching them I returned them to the big metal "Drop Box" located outside of the building. The day that I returned them,(4-22-21), was several days before their "Return By Date". Apparently for some reason, the 3 "Most popular" of the 5-6 DVD's that I returned...WERE NOT CHECKED BACK IN, but the others were! Several days after I had returned the DVD's my library account page showed that they were "Overdue". So I called the Library and spoke to a nice sounding person whom assured me that they would "look for them". It's been 3 weeks now and miraculously 2 of the 3 "Missing" DVD's have reappeared. But funny enough, the tile of the1 DVD that I returned that still remains "OVERDUE" is a fitting title to the Library's declining performance...DEATH NOTE! read more

It was my very first time at this library and I couldn't help but notice how noisy it is. If you plan on going to this library to study or work on a few projects you might want to look away. Okay, after living a good amount of my life (6th grade till the end of high school) in Camarillo, I am more than excited to see our little town upgrade its library from what was essentially a shack to what is now just short of a mansion. The Camarillo library is ridiculously bougey. And it's probably the best place in the city for some quiet time. I've never borrowed a book here, but I came here every now and then when I was (very briefly) in a master's program at CSUCI (which, by the way, now has a new library too). It was a good place to study with their private study rooms, fast internet, and an environment that was very inducive to being productive. Words can't describe the BOUGE that essentially vomits from the walls here. However, despite how stuck-up this place LOOKS, it's a relief to see that the staff here are cool, and so is the clientele. I mean, sheesh there's a pirate ship in the kid's section. That's gotta keep them happy. I love living in San Diego, but I do miss Camarillo, and this library is probably one of the parts of town that I'll miss most... ...that and Rolling Pin Donuts. read more

The Camarillo Public Library is a relatively new one, Beautiful Spanish architecture. The extra details also makes it feel like authentic Spanish architecture i.e: the couches, tile, front fountain, chandeliers and the set up, so good job architectures and interior designers, your good work shows. I also give it big props for their cafe connected to the library, it really adds to it. Now I take 2 stars from the library for one reasons. What's a PUBLIC Library? yeah, it's a place where you can go and check books for free, and (for the most part) give you a month to read them, and that's important. However a Library is more than that! Libraries are also suppose to be intended to be used as Public Space! Yes, Public Space as in people should have easy access to go there whenever they want. This Library lacks that hardcore. I mean it's located in the corner of Lewis Road and Adolfo Camarillo, barely in the city limits, this makes it hard for people to have access to it. Lets say I lived in Spanish Hills or Mission Oaks, and I wanted to go the the Library, that's far, really really out of the way! There's no way I am walking, biking, jogging, taking the bus (bus?) or any form of transportation that isn't a car, it's not really easily accessible to most of the public, unless they want to drive. Public Libraries should be design with easy accessibility to the public, this means having it connected really well to the community via a central location, and easier walk-ability. This Library (when build) did not take this into consideration! It was build with Borders in mind, a (beautiful) building surrounded by a sea of parking, which takes away from the beauty. Too bad, the front parking lot could have easily been a huge lawn, with trees, so people could go outside and read! But no, this did not happen! There is no connection between human and the library. This library for the most part is used to get there, get inside (do your business) get out, into your car, and leave. There's no sense of hanging out outside the library and randomly meeting your friend who just walked by. Too exurb designed for me. But again beautifully designed! read more

my favorite library! i started going here ever since they opened up..it is very nice inside and out. Very quite, warm, and cozy. the whole place is wireless and they are open 7 days a week. it's 2 stories..1st floor is where you can find the children's discovery place and books for juniors. 2nd floor they have private study rooms, some computers, the magazines and newspapers and of course tables and chairs to study or read on. they also have nice couches around. i must say the children's section is awsome! its a big pirate ship with the treasure chest. they also have a nice corner for story time. they have a good variety of children books and they have a few computers as well. during the summer, they do this reading program thing which is a great way to get the kids reading cuz they get prizes! this place is very clean especially the bathrooms. outside they have a cafe' and next to it a lil bookstore that sell used books for a cheap price.
