It's been almost a decade since I've been to the library. This library is spacious, clean, and organized. The circulation desk staff helped me to obtain my library card and answered any questions I had about the library. You no longer pay any overdue/late fees if you're late retuning your book. You only pay if you lose or damage a book. There's an online collection of books, which your library card number and PIN (last 4 digits of your phone number) is the key to opening. You can read a novel on your phone if you decide to use the online collection. If someone has checked out a book either online or physically, you can place a hold on it for whenever it's returned. I placed a hold on a couple of physical books, got an email that they were ready to be picked up, and they scanned my library card and handed me the books. It's just an incredibly easy process. I'm also reading a book online from their digital collection. I feel incredibly foolish not having taken advantage of the library in years! There's free WIFI, plenty of events for kids and adults alike in the library (check the flyers in the library or go online), and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful in helping you find what you need and explaining what the library has to offer. The only bummer is that the library is closed on Fridays and Sundays, but you have 5 other days to make use of the library's free resources! read more

Very inviting staff upon entry. Large kid's section on the ground floor, along with audiobooks. Upstairs is everything else. The graphic novel section is about a fifth of our Fresno Library's size, but do appreciate that they have one. read more

This library is spacious with many tables and outlets. I loved the big open windows but wish they had more comfortable chairs instead of wooden ones. There were a few homeless folks minding their own business. You need a library card to access the wifi. We didn't have time to fill out the application, but it sounded like a simple process. read more

It's too easy to love the people and places that love books. Though I have visited this branch precisely one time, I think it will be especially easy to love the Oxnard Library. Is it perfection? No, it could be brighter. I suppose skylights would be an extreme ask. But, this library is big! Bookshelves and special rooms seem to stretch for miles. Palm trees out the windows sway all the way toward the coast. I phoned ahead and with the expectation that my request for one-on-one computer tutoring would yield better results. (An underappreciated offering on my old neighborhood library's calendar. I just didn't need such help when I lived there, but now, with my move, my master's degree, and some publishing creds under my belt--or in my files, as it were-- I need some serious documentation organization.) So, with no one to guide me from over my shoulder, what's the next best thing? Three computer-y reference books pulled from the stacks 'specially for me--rubber-banded and ready two days after my call--and an offer that I could also pull a librarian over for a quick one-on-one question. Turns out, I didn't need it this time. Nice to know that help is there though. I was given a free hot spot to use, since the wi-fi was down, and a study room. I didn't even know I needed all that. Another best part about my experience is that not one of those lovely librarian ladies ever seemed too busy to help me. They served everyone efficiently, patiently, and it all left me wondering: Can't every government office function as smoothly as the library? Maybe it's because well-read people are educated and capable people, so the odds of "customer" satisfaction may naturally be higher in a library. That's my deduction, at least. Makes my tsk tsk of those crazy book-banning Red States even shriller. We need to address those chairs though. With their unforgiving bucketing and high-back wood slates, they reminded me of my 1920s grandparents' house with the 1950s farm-déco dining set, and I'm not fondly reminiscing here. Yikes. Love this old Gem! I'd they don't have it ask to get it ordered. Staff is alwAys friendly and knowledgeable about books and other resources. Sometimes I will reserve a big room so I study and have my own place. In the front they have older books for sale. The kids area has little nooks you can take your kids to read at. Love the kid friendly atmosphere. Libraries are amazing and a great resource for the communities they serve. So happy this one is in Oxnard! read more

Amazing library to get some studying done, some homeless foot traffic but felt safe to me.

I personally don't like it. The smell reminds me of DTLA (unpleasant) especially the first floor. I've always gone to Camarillo Public library (which is really nice and clean minus the old people who don't have/ care to display common library etiquette). Oxnard Public library is not as nice but I see that this place has been a great help to homeless people who need resources to find jobs so no hate there. It's just that I prefer to study in a more comfortable environment. There is Wi-fi but you need to log-in with your library card for access. For people like me who don't really care to own one, it's not the place for you. read more

Now that I have came here a couple times recently, so much has changed: + New computer lab with unlimited internet (except I didn't bring my library card so I didn't have access to it :( ) - No wonder there's a completely filled computer lab because that's the only internet available at the library (NO FREE WIFI :( ) - There's a lot of hobos and it kinda scares me since I'm usually studying alone but nothing bad has ever happened - Wish the library would open later on weekends (Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., and Sunday 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m) but then again, who would wanna be out in the library on a Saturday night? lol read more

This library is just down the street from where I live yet I only started visiting recently. I come here with my niece quite often now. They have everything you need. There's a huge collection of books. I try to check out 5 books at a time and cam never find the time to read more. They also have audio books, dvds and passport service. Yes, you can renew your passport there. They also have a store which I thought was odd until I went inside and was like whoa. The staff are great too. Everyone is very helpful and accommodating. My niece loves it here very much. I do too. read more

This has always been a jewel in a quiet city. I grew up coming here for their free kids story time, my mom frequents the talks and seminars, and renting dvds is easier and cheaper than cable. They have something for everyone! read more

My four year old grandson and I came to the library this afternoon to see California Joe the Magician. My friend and her granddaughter went too. It was such a fun time. My grandson loved all of it. Joe was very entertaining and had a great way with the kids. My grandson was excited to explore the library but it was five o'clock when the show was over. I will definitely be bringing him back to appreciate what the library has to offer and check out some books. Thank you for this very fun event. read more

I'm new to the area & I applied for a library card online. I later found out about their reading apps so I can borrow audio books. I Love this feature & I fully take advantage of this great, free resource. I've been doing this for approx. a year now but recently, I've had a technical difficulty with the app(s) on two occasions now. I consider myself moderately well with digital things but I had to resort to calling them for help & I want to point out how great the ladies are that helped me with the unfamiliar glitches. Tammy was the first to help me the first time it happens & she had so much patience with me & us two going back & forth with ideas. The 2nd time, I called the library & the nice lady politely declined putting me through to Tammy in Admin. but she expressed that she'd be happy to walk me through the process. I SO wish I remembered her name! (I hope she'll know who she is since this problem doesn't seem to happen very often:) Thank you both so much for going above & beyond read more

This library is centered in Oxnard's downtown area that oscillates between quaint and lovely to blaring and obnoxious. Within this mercurial setting rests the Oxnard Public Library which provides a sanctuary for studying, reading, or just plain hanging out. When you enter you're absolutely blown away at how modern the environment feels. The first floor has a large kids section that boasts a wide selection of books sectioned by reading levels. Also, there is a large video section that rivals those of video rental stores. The second floor is surprisingly stocked with a wide array of books that are normally found in university libraries (before you mock this statement, please be aware that it is hard to find books from Jacques Lacan, Pierre Bourdieu, and Gilles Deleuze at the local libraries). Their selection of books was amazing. As an avid reader, I normally find libraries stock the same books as a Barnes and Noble, so it is refreshing to see a library stocking beyond "what sells" in book stores. The second floor also has a computer lab with access to the internet and printing. If the computer lab is packed, you can rent a computer outside the lab for $3 an hour. The only con I have is that there's no wifi; free or otherwise! Look, I understand that many libraries cannot provide free wifi so they normally charge a small fee, but to not have some form of wifi seems ridiculous at this point. I wouldn't mind paying a small fee to have wifi for a couple of hours. It makes it difficult to write a report nowadays when much of the information you seek is online. Yes, they do have a computer lab, but sometimes it's packed with people looking on craigslist for a free couch or someone writing the President an angry email about noises coming from their apartment building (the latter example was an actual email I read from a lady in front of me). And if it's packed your only option would be to rent a $3 an hour computer, which I'd rather pay to have wifi on my own computer or go to the nearest Starbucks and use the $3 for an iced coffee. Overall, despite my "no-wifi" rant, this place is actually a great place to study. As a student, I'm always looking for a spot that provides a quiet location that stimulates thought and study. If they sold coffee--and yes, if they had wifi--this place would be my second home. read more

This library has wifi, and staff is always helpful. This is one of the best libraries I frequent. The children's section is downstairs and the adult section is upstairs. This means you can get a really quiet place to study. There are many tables and places to read, and not that many people come here, so I always find a whole area to myself (which is sad because this place is so great). The book selection is excellent. I often come here not knowing what I'll get, and always find great books. There are well-known classics and authors as well as a great selection of obscure reads. There's also a fairly large foreign books section. read more

Very unique library with a huge selection. Most of the time you can hear a pin drop in there, it's so quiet. The staff is really friendly and helpful and there's ALWAYS parking. Only cons I can think of is that there's no self checkouts and I can only find one book deposit. read more

I love libraries because I can read books I find there, borrow them, and I'm quite lucky to have found all the books that really changed my life here. I like the book The Power of Now a lot. Such a gift to the world... I also like to borrow movies to watch with my family. I love How to Kill a Mockingbird; I recommend watching it and reading the book once in your life. Rent the computers at the second floor, dvd's, cd's, books, and even visit the gift shop! It's fun and mostly free! :) read more

I used to go here all the time! They always misplaced a book I had returned and they always found it after awhile. The last time they lost it for good and said I hadn't returned it, AGAIN. I checked FIVE times and I for sure returned it. They won't admit it and I do NOT have it. I love this one Librarian but I will never go there again. Tolerant of homeless people & friendly staff. Just follow the rules and you should be fine.

I first called the library to look for books for an assignment. They had it there and the staff was very friendly and went ahead and put it on hold for me. When I went to pick them up, the staff was very kind and professional in helping me sign up for a library card in no time at all and made it a great experience. The library is spacious and well organized. A great place to do homework and study. I would recommend this library. read more

I love this library, contrary to many public libraries that are always noisy by children this was very quiet. I had a chance to go and find 3 out of 5 books I wanted. I did not check the computer lab, but I guess those should be great too. Very nice staff. they are very helpful, without their help I could not find my books. Very clean and comfortable. read more

I've been coming to this library since I was in the 3rd grade. I used it through my high school and college years for research papers. However, in recent years, I've noticed the increased number of homeless people coming to the library. It doesn't matter if it's in the morning or afternoon, during the week or weekends. You will see homeless guys sleeping on the couches, taking up tables with their belongings and getting fussy in the computer lab. Not only that but you have to withstand their heavy body odor because they don't wash up. That being said, I am disappointed with the staff that they don't do much to drive these people away. I understand that it's a 'public' building but it becomes unbearable at some point when these people take up all the space to spend their day in the library without picking up a book or anything. They even take up study rooms which are supposed to be for patrons to use for actual studying. No ones knows if these homeless people have a rap sheet and yet they're here in a building where little kids are running around. As a 20-something year old female, I don't feel comfortable coming here alone. I once had a random homeless guy tell me I was cute and asked if I was from around here. What the HECK? I prefer to go to other area libraries than spend an afternoon at this library. Their selection is good, I must admit, but I rather use their service of holding books and picking them up at one of the other two branches of the public library system. read more
