How this cool little library remained invisible to me for the twenty years I've lived in this town is a mystery to me. Do they have some kind of Romulan cloaking device up in here? Maybe it's like the Fight Club. You know, like, the first rule of the Hill Road Library is you do not talk about the Hill Road Library. All I know is I have never heard anyone mention this place. I really don't know what the deal is, but I'm stoked I finally discovered the place! There's so much to love about the place. Like, friendly (smiling!) workers, spacious comfortable room and fastidiously clean bathrooms. They've got laptops available for patrons, and also a nice copy machine. I was really happy to discover they had a collection bin for used batteries. I must have had 50 or 75 dead batteries that I accumulated in the last couple years. It was great to be able to get rid of them in a responsible manner. I also really like that they are featuring one of my photos on their business page. On my first visit here I took a shot of their business hours and was really happy to see it become the primary photo for the library. So, can you imagine how stupid I felt when I drove over last Thursday morning to drop off my spent batteries, only to find the library closed? The library opens at 2 pm on Thursdays. As Bugs Bunny would say, What a maroon. I also love the beautiful landscaping outside this branch. As Marcus Tullius Cicero once said, "If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need." Mikey C says: well said, Cicero!

Great resource to have on the east end of town! Visited here today and the 3 staff were very helpful. In the past we have found it to be very noisy, but the last two visits have been more settled. There was a nice variety of new children's books which comes in handy for our family!

One of the rude employees that had a problem with my special needs child.

Not a good place to study. Sounds more like a store than a library! Doesn't help that the staff here are some of the loudest in the room.

The book selection feels intentional, with a good mix of familiar titles, indie presses, and unexpected finds. I've picked up several great reads here for my Caracol Book Club and always feel good about what I bring home. Pricing feels reasonable and consistent for a shop this well curated. The staff pick recommendation cards are genuinely helpful, and the loyalty rewards program is a nice bonus. I also love the seating in the back. It's the kind of spot where you can actually slow down. Journal, read, and sip a coffee from the neighboring coffee shop, Singing Sun, without feeling rushed. In addition to books, there's a solid selection of stationery, greeting cards, and small gifts, plus gift cards that are easy and practical. They also host author events and community gatherings that feel thoughtful and well done. Whether I'm browsing for myself or picking up a gift, Timbre is consistently a good experience. Ventura is lucky to have an independent shop like this.

~ A BOOKLOVER'S HAVEN ~…read more Timbre Books is everything I've ever wanted in a bookstore. When you walk in, you're greeted by a bright, airy, modern, and warm space. There are a couple of two person tables near the front, next to big, dreamy windows, perfect for working or reading. To the right, there's a wonderful selection of children's books and cozy reading nooks. It was heartwarming to see kids sprawled out, reading and lost in their own worlds. There's also a table towards the back with charming cards for purchase. Their book selection is impressively diverse and thoughtfully curated, with many titles featuring staff recommendations and reviews. I especially enjoy horror/psychological thrillers and nonfiction memoirs, and there's plenty of those, as well as the newest, hottest books from social media (booktok). They have a rewards program and a monthly newsletter that's thoughtfully crafted giving us the scoop on new arrivals, events, and book recommendations. Their book club meets monthly and has a laid-back, low maintenance vibe making it perfect for busy people who just want to casually discuss a book. I happened to visit during one of these meetings, and it was so wholesome to see people sharing baked goods, laughter being heard, and enjoying each other's company. The atmosphere here feels like a true community, and it gives you those warm, fuzzy feelings. When I mentioned it was my first visit, Mirna quickly made me feel welcomed by sharing details about the store, answering my questions, and suggesting some of her favorite books based on my interests. It's great that the staff have diverse tastes and can offer varied recommendations! Overall, Timbre Books is a unique gem in Ventura, and I'm excited to come back and join the next book club! *HOT TIP: There's plenty of parking available in the lot behind the store and on the street. *HOTTER TIP: Before heading in to browse/read, don't forget to grab a coffee from the charming coffee shop two doors down!

The circulation desk staff helped me to obtain my library card and answered any questions I had about the library. You no longer pay any overdue/late fees if you're late retuning your book. You only pay if you lose or damage a book. There's an online collection of books, which your library card number and PIN (last 4 digits of your phone number) is the key to opening. You can read a novel on your phone if you decide to use the online collection. If someone has checked out a book either online or physically, you can place a hold on it for whenever it's returned. I placed a hold on a couple of physical books, got an email that they were ready to be picked up, and they scanned my library card and handed me the books. It's just an incredibly easy process. I'm also reading a book online from their digital collection. I feel incredibly foolish not having taken advantage of the library in years! There's free WIFI, plenty of events for kids and adults alike in the library (check the flyers in the library or go online), and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful in helping you find what you need and explaining what the library has to offer. The only bummer is that the library is closed on Fridays and Sundays, but you have 5 other days to make use of the library's free resources!

This unique bookstore is set in a former family home that's been thoughtfully converted into a literary haven. Each room has its own character: the kitchen is dedicated to cookbooks, while the formal dining room displays collectible titles that can only be viewed from outside. The living room features an inviting mix of bookshelves filled with a wide variety of reads. Outside, you'll find rows and rows of books lining shelves beneath awnings, creating an open-air browsing experience that's both unusual and delightful. I was curious how they manage the setup during rainy weather, and was told that because of the valley's conditions, rain tends to fall straight down and doesn't impact the books under the awnings. There are so many hidden gems here and you could easily spend hours exploring. They offer a combination of new and used books ranging from a dollar on up. Definitely worth a stop if you're in town, a serene, special place that feels timeless. They buy or trade books Mon-Fri (10-6), usually up to four boxes a week. Extremely nice library manager. Books were in great condition. One thing I didn't like was the parking lot. We were there during the day and there were some very scary people hanging out with off leash pitbulls. One lady tried to approach us (she seemed to be on drugs based on her behaviors), but luckily decided to go the other direction. I did not feel safe with my son walking the short distance to my car with people sleeping in their cars while their off leash dogs were running around the parking lot. The library has a security guard, but he only stayed inside the library. He needs to be patrolling the parking lot and front entrance as well, or at least watch to make sure young children get in and out of the library safely. We will return, but the other locations don't seem to have this safety issue. I hope the library looks into this.
