There are plenty of 4 person tables, several couches with coffee tables, and a bunch of independent study stations. They have a large array of DVDs to choose from. I don't often check out books but there are many. As a student, you can check out a textbook for your class for 2 hour time periods. During finals week, they come around with a snack cart as well as having coffee, coco, and emergency! The library is always clean and well staffed. I've always had pleasant experiences here! It sits within the compound and grounds of the Theosophical Research Society, surrounded by gardens and fountains. I went in expecting nothing by Theosophical related books from Charles Leadbeater, Helena Blavatsky and Alice Bailey. Boy, was I wrong. They had tons of books and titles represent all faiths and traditions, from hokey New Age books on gems and angels to serious tomes on Tibetan Buddhism and Sufiism and everything in between, including some hard-to-find and out of print titles. I was very impressed and will definitely come back if I'm in the area again.

I wish there was like a $5 dollar option cause sometimes people just need to get rid of a few extra trash bags of garbage. I used to take some cardboard for free during the pandemic. You need to bring a hard hat, closed towed shoes, and I think an orange vest. I'm not sure if they are still allowing people to toss away cardboard but this is what I did about 2 years ago. Up until my neighborhood allowed cardboard to be picked up ever 1 week versus every 2 weeks.

So I sauntered myself into the library. It's small in square footage but they sure do pack a lot into the space. Besides books, they have computer (laptops) for in library use by library card holders. There was a cozy children's book and activity area giving off homey vibes. The armchairs added to that vibe along with the architecture of the building. They even had a covered front porch with pub height tables and chairs. Comfy place to crack open your laptop to use the WiFi. Fun fact: the Carpinteria city library was established on November 10, 1910 and was the first county library in California. (Ohhh the 1st). That original building was on 892 Linden Ave. See I learned a new fact. I picked up that little nugget by reading the funky lettered carved wooden sign in the courtyard.

The clerk, Elizabeth Arant, treated me with suspicion, disrespect, and zero compassion. She went out of her way to question and delay my paperwork, made extra photocopies of my ID for no clear reason, and spent 30 minutes walking around with my documents. Later, when I returned to check the status, I found out my license was never filed. To make matters worse, she sat nearby watching and smirking as I was told my marriage wasn't being recognized. It was cruel and unnecessary. As a county nurse myself, I work with people from all walks of life, including those incarcerated, and I would never treat anyone this way. County employees are supposed to serve the public with respect and professionalism -- not judgment or bias. I've tried for days to file a grievance and have been bounced from one department to another with no help or accountability. This experience left me devastated and completely disheartened. I hope the County takes this seriously because no one should ever be treated like this when they're just trying to get married.
