UH-mazing. If you can believe it, the Camarillo library is a destination, I kid you not. Where did they get the money to build this thing, it is beautiful and a delight to visit. The kid's section is chock full of creative and fun zones for all ages. One amphitheatre-like section is recreated like an old pirate ship, and the kids can sprawl out on the deck or on benches surrounding the deck with piles of stuffed animals to keep them company. There is a whole nook on the ship devoted to Harry Potter. And the floor of the whole boat section is this soft squidgy material, perfect for sprawling about or swabbing ye decks with ye books and ye stuffed animals. In another corner, for those taking the next step in classic literature, is a section themed on "Around the World in 80 Days" with large murals and curtains to close the place off for events. In the young adult section are massive pillars of colorful mosaic, and rooms people can reserve for group study sessions. All over the place are beautiful light fixtures and nice tilework. And dozens of computers for people to use. And comfy chairs for people to read in. Or fall asleep in, like, uh, I did. I blame it on food coma from Dorothy's Chuckwagon cafe and her damn gater sausages. Check out is a breeze! They have a self check-out section where you just place the books on a rubber pad and it'll get scanned automatically, press a button and your receipt is spat out, and you're on your merry way. This has to be one of the most beautiful libraries I've ever been to. This is a bold statement but it's quite comparable to UCLA's Powell, considering there's much more seating available, has ample amount of FREE parking, is in Ventura County & there's a whole Kid's Library section! I'm kind of upset that I just discovered this library. It's not too far off from Simi Valley/Moorpark area. It's located at the beginning of Camarillo if you're going west. I haven't had a chance to see their book selection yet; however, I'm almost positive they'll have a lot of the books I want. It's 2 stories and for those of you who are visiting the library to study, check out the upstairs area. There's large tables all around and in the way back, there's secluded table as well. The Wifi works perfectly fine though it can lag a little bit. There's also a little cafe outside of the library, which makes it extremely convenient. You don't have to drive far away to get your caffeine fix. It's like a college library without all of the chaos! All you need to get a library card is your driver's license! I just got mine today and I'm so excited to go back! As cheesy as it may sound, I think this library made studying actually fun... read more

I couldn't have imagined a more beautiful library for Camarillo. I had no idea what to expect when they began building this new library. But this new facility has definately been a huge blessing for our community and has taken our library into the new Millenium in terms of style and technolgy. It is two stories tall. There is young adult, large print and a very cute children's section on the bottom floor (complete with a story book life size replica of a ship and a springy blue ocean-like floor). Upstairs there are other books, an info desk, quiet group study rooms, computers (lots and lots of nice computers), magazines, newspapers and even wireless internet. I spent like 6 hours in there working on organizing my EF work binder and playing with the internet. All you need is a library card, which is free to obtain (apparently I was still on record from the card I haven't used since I was in junior high I think). There is also a book store (which I have yet to check out), a vending machine complete with little necessities like staplers and pencils. And there are large meeting rooms which aren't in use yet, to my knowledge, but if they're as nice as the rest of the building, I will be impressed and it will be a great facility (that I hope to use myself for my work). These rooms are run by the city of Camarillo, so I will soon find out the process for using these rooms. If you haven't see the library, Go, enjoy...if only for the beautiful design of the building. You can really tell people put a lot of thought into designing it. Which says a lot for Camarillo! It's our learning gem. read more

Absolutely the BEST library anywhere! All the reviews here have done a great job in describing this library's uniqueness. I will add things that haven't already been mentioned. The staff is amazing and VERY helpful! They are so excited to be working in such a nice environment that when you come in and tell them you haven't been there before they will give you an ear full! Did you know that each room has a unique floor and ceiling? The tile work is incredible, including a mural they have against one wall! If you can't find what you are looking for they will find it ANYWHERE and get it for you! They fill out this card and search for your book. No matter where it comes from you get a notice in the mail to come pick-up your book when they get it in. So you have to be patient, but it sure beats buying books! Oh, they also have a video and DVD section where you can check out movies! I HIGHLY recommend a visit to this wonderland that will astound your visual senses as well as your mind! And the kid's section is WAY cool! read more

When I lived in Camarillo (about 2 years ago), I would always come to this library to study. It was the perfect place to study and basically the only quiet place. When you are studying statistics, you need to dedicate 100% of your attention to it! The library was built back in 2007. So it's still relatively new. The lot previous was a strawberry field. Go figure. What here wasn't a strawberry field before? There's ample parking, a beautiful fountain to the entrance, and spacious inside. Quiet study is upstairs and I have always been able to find a table for myself. There's even study rooms if you want to do group study. The garden surrounding the place is serene. So take a study break or five and just gaze out the window. The wifi is pretty fast and you just use your library ID and pin to access it. The seats and tables are quite comfortable. I almost fell asleep! There's lots of books to borrow. If you can't find what you're looking for here, you can electronically request it from any of the other county libraries and it will ship directly here. Plus, you can save time and renew your items online. read more

WOW! I have been missing out! This is the most beautiful library I have been in! I even like it more then the Library of Congress in DC! The Spanish-style chandeliers, high ceilings, huge tables and comfortable chairs make this library quite unique. Forget Barnes & Noble or Starbucks for studying or reading a book, Camarillo Library is the new hot spot! There are tons of brand spanking new computers, too. Another must-see is the children's "Discovery" area. Tons of cool books, but even cooler is the huge PIRATE SHIP. You feel like a kid again walking across the soft, foamy floor. And don't even think about stealing a book, there'a high-tech security cameras all over with monitors at the check-out desk. The library is open 7 days a week. I think it's open from 10am to 9pm Mondays- Thursday and 10am to 5pm Friday- Sunday (double check that though). The Camarillo Library is definitely like no ordinary library- you must go! read more

This is hands down one of the best public libraries I have ever visited. The interior is a realm in which you can settle and delve into a good book. The ceilings, walls, and flooring are all pretty impressive. I love the kids book section. Its like a little fantasy land with books open on stands low enough for children to view. It is easy to go online and search the catalog of books and media available at the library. Its a great tool to see what books are available before you go. I highly recommend everyone visit this library and see what all the buzz is about. read more

This library and community hub is as good as it gets. You'll be drawn here time and time again for the atmosphere alone, but they also deliver the goods. One thing this library does better than the L.A. municipal library system is they allow you to check out books and DVDs for 3 weeks. L.A. city libraries cut book time to 2 weeks (not realistic to finish a book in 2 weeks if you're holding down a 40 hour a week job) and DVDs to 2 days. In Los Angeles fines for DVDs are a dollar a day. I think Villaraigosa raised those fines to bring income into the city. But, you'll find none of that nonsense here. At the Camarillo library they want you to read your books and give you 3 weeks for the DVDs. They know how to treat the citizens that fund them. It's a beautiful relationship. There's a really cute cafe out front where you can hang Starbucks style for hours and listen to the trickling fountain. They're also open on Sundays. I'm there just trying to study and mind my own business when all of a sudden, a god damn orchestra starts playing. That's right, an orchestra. Why? Who the hell knows. This library is one of the best things about Camarillo. Newly remodelled it reminds me a lot about the cerritos library in a lot of ways. Great place to read and get some work done. Get a library card and you can hook up to the wireless. Need a study room, grab some friends and stake one out. Even the checkout scanners are self serve, talk about efficient. This is my all time favorite library!! If you haven't been, you need to go. It's absolutely stunning. They get new books frequently and will take request for book purchases. They have a huge selection of DVDs and magazines. The children's section is very nice, too. It has a ship and plenty of reading areas. The book store is nice and so is their coffee shop. The library itself is great, the staff is so-so. I wish they would enforce their quiet areas. There are times when I want to be in a quiet environment and there are other patrons that are speaking loudly. Keep in mind that I try to sit away from the doors and at the back of the library. The staff doesn't do anything to try to keep kids quiet either. I understand that they have a lot of energy and tend to be loud, but they're not told anything when they suddenly scream at the top of their lungs in the middle of the library. All I can say if you want to come study or do work here, bring some noise-cancelling headphones and try to reserve their study rooms. read more

This library is by far the best in the county! Private study rooms, late hours, friendly educated staff, and special events. I studied there many times when I was working on my degrees. Great kid section and clean bathrooms! Although, on some occasions I've seen some pretty creepy patrons who frequent the place. It is nice & remains cool during hot summer days. The main problem I see with the library is the upstairs adult section, where patrons are allowed to view *PORNOGRAPHY* freely & peacefully. I only recently found this out. I was quite surprised when an employee told me its allowed due to their 1st Amendment right. I am for our rights but being able to use free internet is a privilege. A privilege that should definitely be restricted because this was in plain view of patrons and minors going to the bathroom and exiting the elevators. They added a partition but that only slughtly helps those going in & out of the bathroom. I was seated by the elevator and could view the obscene material from across the way. Trust me I am no prude, I've been around the block but do that in the privacy of your own home. Having this "adult" section only invites creepers and sex offenders. Do not drop off your kids to hang out alone there because they may become a victim!! OXOXOX read more

This place is what a library should be. the building is really beautiful and big, with an awesome kids section (I mean, a pirate ship? that's pretty darn spiffy...makes me wish I was 8 again!) The internet is super fast, which is great, and there's always plenty of space. Some of the book topics are limited, but otherwise I have no complaints- except that I wish it was open later on weekends. Their cafe area adjoining is wonderful, though slightly pricey..and great for a little break. I've been looking for a work sanctuary in the area, got tired of same old coffee shops. We live walking distance from the old library, and after the new one opened, we saw what all the hub-bub was about. Masterfully designed, this library caters to the scholar as well as the kids. But.... more to the kids. I wouldn't expect to see many college kids in here doing research, but for our elementry age kids doing reports on the Missions, explorers, etc, this is a great place, and well funded. While the new library itself is pretty cool to walk around and look at, it they still need to build some of their collections. I am excited to see when they finish the children's section completely. I also think that they need more staff for such a big place, but I know that all of that comes in time. The place is so clean, and they had some really good ideas when they designed the place. There are a ton of computers to use, and a lot of places to sit and read or study. It is a huge improvement from the tiny library that use to be over by the skate park. It will be great when the new high school goes in because they will be right next to each other. I look forward to see how the library impact the community as it grows. read more

I still remember the old Camarillo Library, and while I have fond memories of it, this one would have captured my imagination as a little kid. You can check out up to 30 items at a time, though I've only ever checked out four. They've got a passably good selection of audiobooks in-house, and you can "check-out" online audiobooks as well. read more

I've been to many libraries throughout the years but this is THE best one I have been to by far. As a college student it's hard to find a comfortable and quiet place study that also fits your needs. Here there are individual booths that limit distractions, a cafe of you're hungry and even a book store! It's very spacious inside and in the parking so you never have to worry about not having a place. On top of the overall environment it's also very aesthetically pleasing. 10/10! read more

This is probably the nicest library I've ever been to, granted though I haven't been to a lot of librarys but this one has a model ship and all kinds of cool decorations around to set a good learning environment for all ages. It's 10 cents a page to print here. Not bad compared to most other printing places. I was able to sign up and get a library card pretty quickly and access a computer no problem. There's also a used book store right outside of it as well as nice little coffee shop in case you're low on your caffeine intake. read more

I love the Camarillo Library. It's large, spacious, and feels very new and updated. There is plenty of seating and the seating is actually quite comfortable. There are also a lot of places everywhere to charge your devices. It's always quiet here so I am able to get my work done when I come here. Spent a lot of time at this library during my CSUCI years. I could've driven to CI and studied in the Broome, but it was too far of a distance. I also did not like to study at home because I was easily distracted with the many things I had. This library was PERFECT for studying, not only because the environment was nice, but also because it was quiet. Boy do I miss being a CI student and living in the city of Camarillo. This library is fantastic! Everything is well maintained and the library staff is always very helpfu. Everytime I have needed to find something they are on top of it and point me in the right direction . The group study rooms are a perfect place to meet to work on group projects or to hold quick spur of the moment meetings. This library is one of the best kept secrets of Camarillo. It's spacious, has a huge selection of new and old books alike, and has an excellent coffee/panini spot right outside. The wifi is reliable, but isn't great for YouTube or any form of streaming. The hours aren't as early as I would like but I can work around that. Some small issues arise because there are many small children which run about downstairs, yelling and such. And there are many "young adults" from the school which just opened nearby. It's almost perfect. What really detracts from this library, are the rules. You aren't aloud to bring in anything, aside from bottled water, in the library. As a recent college grad, I'm familiar with libraries saying this, but not enforcing it. But they are strict as hell! I've had to throw out a coffee I just purchased downstairs, and I've watched other patrons do the same. I understand the purpose, but as someone who spends hours in libraries, let me bring a coffee and a granola bar in. TIPS 1) As you enter the 2nd floor, head straight back, past the reference desk. It's the quietest there. 2) I've "heard" people smuggle in food and drinks, and sneak them when the staff isn't looking. But I do not condone this. read more

I love the Camarillo Library. I've found it nearly impossible to get any school work done at home with all the distractions (well, mainly TV and my dogs) and the cam library offers the best alternative. It's not loud and raucous like a coffee shop or big chain book store. There's plenty of big windows that let natural light in and offer serene views of the hillside dotted with trees and farmland. There's plenty of public access computers (provided you have a library card) to surf the net, but its bothersome how some creepies are on there sometimes with a jacket cloaked over them and the monitor (what in the world could you be doing, I wonder). I'm not the one to bring anything up, but the staff should at the least be suspicious of this. Anyway, the library can get noisy mid to late afternoon when school lets out and the kids start pouring in here, so if you've got an important term paper to get done, it's best to get here in the morning or early afternoon. There's plenty of tables and workstations too, but I wish the tables all along the walls were smaller. They're huge long tables with only two chairs. It's pretty awkward to work across from a total stranger so I thought it would be better to have two smaller tables instead of one big table. I do like how there's an outlet available for nearly every table though to plug in your laptop. Anyway, as long as I'm in school, I know the Camarillo library is going to be like a second home for me. read more

They have so many great programs going on including Book Buddies where volunteers from the Kiwanis Club read with students to improve their reading skills.There is also a Homework Center for K-8th grades M-Th from 3-5pm. On Sat there are special programs for kids at 10am. The library also has a state of the art literacy center and volunteers to help adults improve their reading skills. read more
