Library Interior
Maricar D.

With most LA public libraries, the offering of free wifi, free resources, free wireless printing, free reading parties, and the space to study and read new books is a great blessing. However, at this branch I've noticed some problems that regularly occur here that get a bit annoying: - Front desk rarely knows anything to help you and will almost ALWAYS refer you to ask the librarian further in the library for help. One approached me because I was scanning some pages in my book with the scanner machine. She tapped me on my shoulder and asked if I was almost done very rudely because a gentleman had asked her for assistance. I rushed with scanning and left as soon as I can. Turns out he didn't even need the scanner machine, he just needed to print something out from the printer which was not being used! - There are somehow always that one kid making a loud ruckus (random screams, squeals, slamming of objects). Unfortunately, the librarian staff don't do anything (at least let the parents know that the kids are being too noisy). It makes it feel like the rest of us aren't being respected for the work or reading we are trying to do. When did hearing librarians go "shhh" stop being a thing? At least acknowledging the loud noise can help us all feel like something is at least being done about it. Instead, ignorance is used and it lets the kids think that it's okay to keep yelling at a space that should be more quiet. - Sometimes the said librarian looks very annoyed or clearly don't seem to want to help the older folks who have technology problems or need extra assistance in printing. Saw this happen several times and I feel bad for the folks. - Library branch does not follow opening times!! I've come here several weekdays to when they're supposed to have been open just to see it's still closed/locked! They don't follow the hours it seems to open yet they are always adamant with making sure everyone leaves right at the dot for closing because they "will lock the parking lot gate and lock your cars in". The service here is rude and not generally welcoming or nice unless you have an easy task (like checking books out).

Decent size. Smells and looks clean. Public restrooms and water fountain. Both clean. Cute little children's corner. Plenty of computers for children and adults. Also plenty of seating areas. There's a beautiful seating area near a window by the children's corner that overlooks the Main Street where CSUN and se apartments are. Private parking lot. It can get pretty packed but there's free street parking. Only thing I don't like is that it opens at 12PM buuut it doesn't take away from all the other positive things about it.

What... nobody told me it's a holiday!

The amount of preparation and planning it takes to organize something this large with the amount of family and friends that attended is truly extraordinary. I parked at Matadome (Premier America Credit Union America) - no charge to park. Don't forget to bring your flowers and/or leis to celebrate your student's graduation. This 2 hour ceremony started about 30 minutes late (8:30AM) and ended at about 10:30AM. Restrooms are available yet all are inside the university buildings (none available outdoors) Make sure to hydrate and bring water and maybe some snacks. There is no shade for the audience so come prepared! Beautiful grounds with plenty of space for family photos.

I came here today to read a book that I got as a gift! Needed to get away from my everyday life of sitting in my bedroom depressed. So I decided to go out to a place that makes me feel good which is my old stomping ground CSUN. The book I'm reading is called Love & Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs. My goal is to finish this book by the end of the week which is Saturday/Sunday. I'm already in chapter 4 and I got the book yesterday. I'm passing myself so I will obtain the information while understanding the book as I read out loud to myself. The facility here has changed from years ago when I was here. In the lobby they have a coffee shop and a lounge area. Which is crazy to see in a library! It's the light_skin_dragon blasting off quietly to find a new place to review for all my readers out there! See how I did that haha

The space was clean and plenty of parking in the lot. For more popular books, we were able to put the books on hold via the app (which is a bit clunky but to no fault of this branch) for pickup here once available.

You can tell they're always excited to see young people in eager to read. The location is also very unassuming from the outside. Honestly, I had driven by it dozens of times before even realizing it was there. Out of the corner of my eye, it looked like it was just part of the fire station that's next door. Because of this, if you're not paying attention, you can easily drive by without realizing it. The parking lot is also very small and with tight spots so be prepared to have to park along the street (which is a hill) and walk in. That, or just go during 'off hours' during the weekday if you can to ensure there won't be a ton of people in there. One of the highlights to this location is a large meeting room. They have tons of community events for just about everything under the sun. Be sure to check out upcoming events to see if there is something that strikes your fancy. However, just don't set lofty expectations. I took my kids here for an event (I don't want to call out what it was because the librarian who put it on did seem to have great intentions) that was a total dud. I think it just wasn't planned through enough and or she was just overwhelmed by the rambunctious, loud group of young elementary school kids who showed up. I don't want to say don't take your kids to children events here. Our experience very well could have been a one off. Just set you expectations accordingly. These are events planned and put on by the librarians. They're not experts in any particular field and they are bound by the resources at hand. So, in all, if this is your local library, it's a nice one with a good amount of things to offer. However, if this one is a bit out of your way, I would maybe say just stick to your local branch. Remember, if they have a book here that you want, you can always have it sent to your local brand for free. That's the joy of LA's massive public library system.

Okay, so maybe after 4+ decades in the SFV it's about time I got a library card! LMAO…read more I was recently welcomed to a book club and thought all my excuses have now lapsed. The escape of my childhood could also make a wonderful reprieve from adulting. NOTE: This branch will be closed February 9, 2025 and reopening Monday, April 13th. We are told a new paint job is in the works, but this obviously much loved and worn branch could use a bit more sprucing up. Tina welcomed us in and got us set up with new cards celebrating 100 years of Los Angeles City libraries! A card for the wallet and one for the keychain. She was also very kind in setting aside a State Park pass for us to return and grab before the branch closes next week. A State Park Pass is good for 1 car and only at designated State Parks. So plan ahead if you want to take advantage of this benefit available to library card holders only. Tina let us know the pass, like books, are lent out for up to 3 weeks. Sweet! We look forward to utilizing this amazing resource now that we've tapped into it. My book group are eager to see "Wuthering Heights" after the book read next month, so I already know the first classic I plan on checking out. Cheers! "CC"

Even though it was "strange," it was actually pretty good. On the other hand, the Master's in Screenwriting was just awful. It was a terrible experience, with bad and unprepared professors, an all-white faculty with zero diversity, and a department chair (Mr. Jared Rappaport) who seemed completely lost and had no idea what he was doing. The entire body of professors was terrible--aggressions and lies everywhere. I had two classes that were repetitions of courses I had already taken as an undergraduate, even with the same professors. Additionally, during my thesis examination, one of the three professors who were supposed to give me feedback did not read my script. As a result, I only received two sets of feedback instead of three. Beyond that, my experience with the credentialing program at CSUN, under the Michael Eisner School, was equally disappointing. The lack of commitment, disorganization, and unprofessional behavior throughout the process was unacceptable. Communication was poor, requirements shifted without clear guidance, and there was little accountability. It is a terrible place to pursue studies if you expect seriousness, professionalism, or institutional support. In summary, I paid for a Master's degree that honestly taught me very little. I learned far more in the screenwriting courses I took at Los Angeles Valley College than in the CSUN Master's program. And if you are thinking about "networking," forget it. The network you can get from that institution is honestly BS. I do not recommend that program. Look for a more serious institution if you want to learn and feel genuinely appreciated. Do not pursue the Master's in Screenwriting at CSUN.
