This is a great place to first time for me. Outside doesn't look like much. Inside is a warm feeling when entering. I was greeted by Cloe. She sat me and was also my server. She was very friendly and very helpful. I had the prime rib sandwich with au jus. It was very good and plenty of meat. It was on a hoagie bun. Along with Broccoli. Overall service was quick. What a hidden treasure! We were "just passing through" and it was a couple of miles off the interstate, but SO worth the few minutes it took to get there. Our server told us it's owned by a mom and daughter who are also the cooks, so everything is made with love. We had a variety of dishes, and all of them were delicious. The ambiance threw us off a little when we first entered, they share the sweet shop and they have the option to purchase decor and other related items. The food is fresh and the empanadas we got were really great. I opted for a pork sandwich, the bread was really fresh and the pork was flavorful. For a stop on the way home it was far superior to the norm. The wait staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The only confusing aspect was it does look like they serve beer and wine but there wasn't a menu for it so we didn't know that was an option. Overall it's worth a visit. read more

Great bbq platter. We loved the ribs, pulled pork, cucumber salad, sweet potato hash browns, and onion tangles. Kids meals are great. Each kid meal came with a cookie and the hot dog was cut to look like a squid with a little face. Attached sweet shop is an added plus. I usually enjoy Porter Jacks, but the entrée vegetable platter was a complete rip-off. $16 got me 5 zucchini slices, 3 asparagus spears, 3 tiny broccoli florets, and 4 carrots -- barely a side dish, let alone an entrée. I had to add mushrooms for another $5, which only made it worse. To top it off, they served it on a small plate inside a larger one to make it look like more. Ridiculous. When I brought it up, the server just said, "I don't make the prices," and clearly didn't care. Then I noticed a sign that said all sales final -- which is outrageous for a restaurant. If food isn't prepared or portioned correctly, it should be fixed. My last time here for sure. read more

This is my first ever review. We chose Manning SC as our stop traveling 95 from FL to New England specifically to once again visit Porter and Jacks. Our experience this time couldn't have been more different than our previous visit. My husband and I both ordered shrimp and grits described as Shrimp with Chorizo and Peppers. What we got was more like Grits Soup with 6 small shrimp floating on top. Not only did you need a spoon instead of a fork to eat the grits, there was absolutely no flavor. After our server (who was wonderful!!!) asked several times if we like our meals were we honest. My husband had eaten the 6 small shrimp and I had eaten about half the shrimp. The grits portion was inedible. She took my plate back to the kitchen and returned asking me if I would prefer something else. I then ordered pork chops which were fine. Imagine my surprise when the bill had all three meals. Our server apologized but said that the she was unable to remove the partially eaten meal. This decision was made by the owner who was present. Eventually, after much back and forth and involving the manager (who was wonderful!!!), one meal was removed from the bill. In conclusion, service at Porter and Jacks was exemplary. Owners should stand behind their product and not place their staff in difficult positions. read more

Visited Porter Jacks the 15 Dec. Ordered my favorite, Charleston shrimp and grits, I had it before and it was good this time it was a disater, if I hadn't been with a group I would have it sent back, the grits were not fully cooked until they had body, it was basically liquid grits with no body or texture, thus the description on the menu was not any thing like I was served. I don't know who the cook was but they were not from the south, because no southern cook would have sent the plate out. Porter Jacks has good food and Iwill probably eat there again, if I order shrimp and grits, I will make the server aware that if the grits aren't right don't serve it to me. I had to have a scoop of their amazing homemade chicken salad. It is made with green onions and so good. I mean can't-wait-to-get-more good! Next time I am getting a quart to take home. My husband had a great salad and catfish stew over rice. He loved every bite of it. I ordered the seafood platter including flounder, shrimp, and oysters. I really didn't want flounder, and they were gracious enough to replace it with more shrimp. The shrimp and oysters were gently breaded and tasty. As good as seafood gets. Sweet potato waffle fries were the bomb! We saw the baker with fresh homemade cakes that I wanted really bad. I never miss dessert, but I just couldn't do it. We have a refrigerator full of take-home boxes because we couldn't begin to eat everything we ordered. Next time I am going to spend the night in Manning so we can do it again at least twice. Really, it is a great place to eat, and our waitress was a sweetheart. And did I mention the adorable Easter pillows in their gift shop? Had to get one. I can based on reviews and food selection. Overall, a nice dinner. Confusion at the hostess stand as so many were doing take out orders and three team members looking confused. After 5 minutes, they asked my last name and I stated I am trying to sit and eat. They apologized and sat promptly. Server Chlo was training another person and both could not be nicer. Filet (MR) came out raw. They had to butterfly it as the kitchen couldn't get it cooked. End, food was tasty. Ordered dessert to go! read more

You walk in and are greeted with a gift shop of sorts. It just felt out of place. We were seated. I can't exactly describe it but the place did not smell good. It was something odd. Furniture could be updated It was rundown diner type furniture For a drink I just asked for ice water. I took one sip and would've spit it out if I could. The water tasted like chemicals or worse. It was absolutely awful They don't offer any bottled water except for a four dollar glass bottle of water. So I ordered that because I figured the soda would have to contain some of their water also. I drank it straight out of the bottle because I didn't want their ice either. Ordered the food and the food was absolutely delicious. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever regarding the food. I'm sorry I don't have any pics but this was the best food we've had since we have been on our trip! Our hostess was amazing, my grandkids even gave her a hug. It was so cute inside with a small ice cream shop and the little things they had for sale inside the restaurant was also cute. The server we had was very friendly and attentive. We ordered rib eye steaks and my husband said his tasted a little sour. Our problem with the restaurant was the extra charges on our bill for the sides. Normally with a steak dinner the salad is one of the normal sides but they charged 1.99 extra for it and 2 of our other sides as well. I got a loaded baked potato so I knew that would be a little more but charging extra for that tiny salad was ridiculous. This wasn't mentioned to us before hand.
