The food was greasy and unseasoned. I ordered a fried pork chop sandwich. I pictured a breaded pork chop, kind of like a schnitzel. I ordered home fries and I specified I did not want limp, white fries. I like them crispy. The waitress agreed. What she brought me was literally a fried (no breading) bone-in pork chop. It was greasy. Did I mention it had a bone? Slapped between two slices of white bread, one slice of tomato and literally 1 small, square piece of lettuce. The fries were indeed greasy and limp. A great mom and pop shop that was halfway from our destination to Myrtle Beach. The Fried Chicken was seasoned well and had a great crunch. The service was awesome and the sweet tea was perfect Me and my children throughly enjoyed eating here. Y'all. This place is the epitome of small town America diners. Sweet servers. Full of locals. Homemade food that fills your belly and warms your soul. The rivulets were on special so my husband asked about them. Our server brought us some to sample. (She was so sweet). They were delicious. I don't really like BBQ (I know- that's practically a sin in the south ) but this was delicious. Some of the best tasting barbecue I've ever had. The George burger was delicious! Here it is, "all the way" with French fries. It's freshly made, juicy and flavorful with all the fixins and plenty of fresh, hot fries. What a bizarre name! The food is home style South Carolina midlands and the service is fast and nosey (as in "where y'all from?). For those not accustomed to southern vegetables dishes, this restaurant is a great change from the single note side dish so often found in small home style venues. Greens that have simmered all day (but are not overcooked) with hints of Orange and Ham and Scalloped Tomatoes done to perfection. You just can't fresh beat local produce prepared with an old family recipe I imagine this is where most of the business deals in town are made and expect Floyd and Barney at any minute. I've eaten here regularly for several years. They have many choices for breakfast from 6AM until lunch at 11AM. There's a daily special plate for lunch M-Th. Dinner is available from 5PM until 9PM. No service on Sundays. I especially enjoy their pancakes with walnuts. I often remember to bring my own real maple syrup and just make a pig of myself eating this treat with a side of bacon. They have several choices of breakfast meats to go with eggs and grits or potatoes plus white or wheat toast. One can also get a half portion of salt-cured "country" ham if the full slice is too generous for your appetite. I've eaten good burgers and hot dogs with "home fries" often. The home fries are fresh cut potatoes instead of frozen French fries. YUM-O! However, I do NOT recommend the bacon Swiss burger--that cheese is a white "cheese" that has a distinctly bad taste. Since they have cheddar and American, you may choose not to be revolted by this abomination masquerading as Swiss cheese. I have eaten dinner often as well. Bernie has steaks, chicken, pork chops, many choices all prepared well. If you choose the "house" salad, it has a special dressing that's wonderful. The bargain of the menu is the half of a fried chicken with potatoes and one veggie for less than $10!! I get that and take home the leftovers. It's way too much food to eat in one go. Bear in mind that this town is a notorious speed trap!!! Set your cruise control to a little below the posted speed limits and save yourself lots of grief. Forewarned is forearmed. read more

Walked were ignored, sat down waited over 5 minutes to get waitress to come to table she brought menus, took another 5 minutes to get drinks! 4 tables of locals came in after us and got service before us! Stopped in for lunch on the way home from the beach and OMG Service very poor, took 30 min after giving us our drinks to come take our order, at which point I was ready to leave but my wife was hungry so she ordered a basic cheeseburger and fries and I didn't order anything, Took over 45 min additional to get that to our table while other customers who came in after us was seated order taken and food delivered got theirs. Matter of fact by the time we got what little we ordered some people who came in after us were paying their check and leaving. And the food wasn't that great either, have gotten better at Mcdonalds quite honestly. I will say you don't know until you try. Well tried and wont return you can bet on that. Just wanted to take the opportunity to tell everyone how terrible the Chat 'n' Chew food is! Our family is from the area and none of us will eat there anymore. Often the grease/oil that they use tastes old. We recently ordered burgers, fries, and mozzarella sticks. The coating on the mozzarellas sticks was soggy, the fries tasted like they were fried in old grease/oil, and the cheese burger was literally burnt. If you have a call in order...if they tell you 20 min...you can count on 30-45 or even more. This place sucks! Come on..you can't cook a burger and fries right?! If you're in the area-go over to the Mexican restaurant across the street-they are consistently good!!! read more

My husband and I visited here this evening. We like to come here on occasions. He ordered the ribeye and I the hamburger steak. The salad had water in the bottom of the bowl making the lettuce limp. Hamburger steak was dry and they served a smaller portion of fries on the plate. The ribeye was spot on. The servers were two young girls who DO not know how to be waitresses. This place is really good country cooking. I ate breakfast there on the way to the beach and lunch on the way back. The fried chicken and collards were so good....just like my Mama's. Our lunch group travels to different parts of South Carolina once a month. There were 15 adults and 2 children. We were treated very well. Event though the place is small they pulled tables together and made sure we were comfortable. The food was very good, great value and was served quickly considering there were so many of us. We would go back again. And in rebuttal to the negative comment about being badly treated due to race we were a mixed group and no one was treated any differently. Maybe it was the behavior of the complaining group that was met with disdain. read more
