To be fair here, I had been telling my family I "did NOT" want to come to this establishment the whole time I was in Sumter for this trip. I've been here multiple times and did not like it. This trip was no different. We had a large group of 16 and it started there. Was told a 2hr wait. If we split in to groups of 8 we'd be seated in 45. Took this option. Actually got seated in about 25 minutes seperately. (A table of 8 that was right next to us was vacant and NEVER got used for the entire 90 minutes or so that we stayed at the restaurant so why not accommodate our group? - strike one) Our waitress I'm told was very chippy with an attitude toward some party members. (I didnt get any attitude toward me) but heard a few people stating how she was answering people's requests and how unpleasant she was. - Strike two. The food. I ordered the meatloaf nachos (which were good). I also ordered the fried pork chops w/ side salad. Loading up on fake bacon bits (like 1000 pieces) doesnt make the salad better. This is a hint to their kitchen. The pork chops were dry and the "red skinned" mash potatoes" (which I do not remember the menu stating that they were red skinned potatoes which would mean SKIN would be present in the mash. Otherwise I would not have ordered this. ALSO, their baked beans.......this was the worst part of the meal. I am expecting some version of beans with a bbq base or similar...instead I got some sort of bean SOUP which was totally inedible in my opinion. Whole meal was trash. Strike three. My 83 year old father said at the end of the meal "worst meal I've ever had". Which I had him repeat to the table just in case anyone thought it was just me. $700 with tip for the quality is a bit much. I will never ever return no matter what my siblings say. read more

All five of us were very satisfied with our meals. We went in the last hour of them being open on a Sunday night. Even though you could tell, they wanted to get out of there, they gave us great service. And all the food was prepared perfectly. We had pork roast, meatloaf, steak salad, grilled chicken, and ribs. My pork roast was extremely tender and flavorful with a delicious gravy. The entrées came with two sides, including a salad, which was ice cold and fresh. I met up with some longtime friends for lunch at Willie Sue's. Sumter doesn't have a lot of places to hang out or a big selection of restaurants, but they did a great job picking this spot. We started with an order of croissants, which have a sweet glaze that melts in your mouth. Definitely a great option for an appetizer. The $12 lunch menu is an amazing deal with many options- I do wish they had more vegetarian and pescatarian options, but I was glad to find the fried fish sandwich, which came with fries and a drink for only $12. It was only $1 more to upgrade my fries to onion rings, and they were really good. I got lettuce and tomato on the side, and you get a choice as to what kind of cheese you want on the sandwich. One friend had the club sandwich, and the other had the fried cod bites with sweet potato waffle fries. The sweet potato fries aren't on the menu, but you can ask for them as an app or a side. Our server kept our drink cups filled and took great care of us. The restaurant was basically empty as we ate a late lunch, and she was patient with us sitting around for about 30 minutes after we finished eating just so we could catch up. I would NEVER recommend this restaurant for large groups. We had a reservation (you have to pay a deposit for large groups) and there were 25 of us. The ambiance is nice, and at first the staff was nice. Then the staff was DROWNING 10 minutes into our reservation. I had to ask for my drink 5 times before I actually got it. The alcohol list and the bar has a great selection! But the bar staff was also struggling that to the point at the end of the night there was no bar tender to be found for 15 minutes. The bar service was terrific and saw the expiditer/manager(?) being super proactive... someone ordered something they had run out of, they came out to talk with her and offer her a special treat. The food was so right on.... starting with the house salad. It comes with a crescent that is so tasty and has all the fixins of a solid starter. Then I had the fried flounder and coleslaw. Look at the pic... it was quintessential! Seasoned well and the meat was like crab meat. Cooked perfectly. Finished with the Apple Cobbler a la mode. The South knows comfort foodnfor sure. We've been to Willie Sues quite a few times. Last week we brought some friends for a birthday celebration. I ordered the 6oz filet mignon, butterflied and cooked medium. When our meal finally arrived (it took much longer than normal), my steak had not been butterflied and it was very rare inside. The manager assured me they would cook me a new one. She left the potato but who wants to eat a potato with no steak! So I wanted Everyone else was enjoying their meals and I just sat there with nothing to eat. My husband did ask if they could bring me an appetizer but she said the steak would be done soon so I continued to wait. Finally, after 20 minutes, my new steak arrived. And it was also rare. Everyone else was finished eating by now and we didn't really have time to keep waiting for them to get my steak right. The manager did Apologize and said they had a new grill cook. And she made a big deal about how she "was buying my steak tonight". So we paid the check (over $100 with tip) and left. I got home and started slicing my steak up so I could sauté it and found a broken off temp indicator stick buried inside. My family and I visited Willie Sue's the Saturday before Easter Sunday. We were a party of 24 for a family reunion meeting. We were extremely please with our experience at Willie Sue's. Tommy, the manager was an EXCELLENT HOST. He insured that all of us were seated comfortably and kept checking us to make sure everything was going well. Our Server was EXCEPTIONAL!!!! I have dined out with large groups before and someone's meal always has to be sent back because of an error with the order. Our young lady did not make one mistake with our orders. We have been eating at Willie Sues pretty regularly since the grand opening. They have gone through some interesting changes through the years. As of Sunday night, 22 March 2026 we will no longer be going to eat at Willie Sues. Our waitress did an outstanding job at trying to cover for incompetence in the kitchen and the manager. They were literally out of every single thing I tried to order and the one thing that they had which was a fillet that they didn't even get close to cooking right. The ambience hasn't changed it was still a nice place and you were able to talk to the people at the table, but that's it. I would recommend going to Porter Jacks in Manning or taking a trip to Columbia instead of eating at Willie Sues. You will just be wasting your money and time if you eat there. They definitely need a change in management and they need to hire some cooks that know what they're doing. Good luck! read more

This is the only restaurant in town where "grilled" means on a grill and not on a stainless steel stove. Their grilled salmon is the best in town along with broccoli for a healthy, gluten free meal. Salmon size has decreased since the Pandemic, but still tastes delicious & is grilled to perfection. Service was pretty good given the amount of people that we had in our party. We had at least 20 people in our party. my only issue would be the drinks weren't filled when they were empty, we had to ask for refills. Outside of that no complaints. This was my second or third time at this restaurant and I'm grateful for the vegetarian options, but I'd recommend something like a veggie burger to add to the menu. read more
