Was hungry and found Happy Bowl on Yelp. Rating was good, pictures of foods looked tasty, so I sought it out. It's a very basic, small restaurant with terrific food. They advertise that it's not a fast food restaurant but my order came out 10-12 minutes after I ordered (I was by myself). Seating is limited, probably no more than 12-15. Open kitchen so you can enjoy the wonderful aromas from the cooking. The vegetable spring rolls I had were delicious and crispy. The entree was filling and yummy. I highly recommend Happy Bowl and plan to return again when I am back in Sumter. read more

I tried this place for the first time about a week ago. It was so good! I'm definitely going back. I ordered a pork gyzo appetizer and a sesame chicken bowl. The bowl comes with rice and an optional egg. Everything is made as you order. I waited about ten minutes, which was not long at all. The staff was very friendly. They offered soy and duck sauce packets. They also had a spicy mayo Sriracha dipping sauce and there was a traditional sauce for the gyzo. A great ramen place in Sumter? Pinch me because I must be dreaming!!! I never thought I would be able to get delicious ramen within Sumter but Happy Bowl proved me wrong. My husband and I ate here last night and loved it. We both ordered pork ramen and a side of kimchi. He was extra hungry and also ordered the wings combo that comes with 5 wings and your choice of fried rice. The ramen broth was a rich pork broth that was flavorful and not overly salty. I was truly impressed with the amount of pork that comes in the ramen and how tender it was. I have never received that large of portion of meat in ramen before and believe me, I wasn't complaining! My friend and I each got a ramen noodle bowl, her beef and mine chicken. It was amazing!! I've never had anything so yummy, I've been wanting another since I left. The bowl has, your choice of meat, spinach, noodles, bean sprouts, seaweed, boiled eggs and a delicious broth. Perfect comfort food for these cold days! I'll be going again soon and will remember to take pics next time as well. Update: Sorry for the ugly photo, this dish is so much prettier when you stay to eat rather than get it to go. I wanted to eat at home tonight. The ramen is still just as good though! I was a little disappointed in the spring rolls. I asked for vegetarian spring rolls and they had meat in them. Happily surprised when a massive bowl of noodles, chicken and broth came to my table. Service was super fast and both our order taker and order deliverer were both happy with smiling faces! My only real concern was I would have liked more broth in my soup, because not knowing what was a normal amount I was at first happy, until looking at other orders I noted they all had more. We stumbled upon this little gem yesterday after arriving in Sumter, displaced from the coast by Florence. While we were a little worried when we walked into the little hole in the wall, we ended up being thoroughly impressed. This little restaurant would do very well in a big city! We ordered a tepanyaki bowl and a ramen. Both were beautifully presented, freshly made, and tasted amazing. I was really tempted to order a fried banana for dessert but just couldn't eat another bite. I will go back to order one, though. Love me some fried bananas. Very good! We love Asian foods and Happy Bowl offers something different than what we're used to in Sumter. We both had the bento box; he had shrimp and steak and she had chicken. The chicken was over cooked and hard. Probably wouldn't order that again. The shrimp was cooked well and tasted good, steak was a little more done than he likes. The ginger salad dressing was AWESOME and the rice had great flavor although you may not have expected it to be the looks of it. We also got the Egg Foo Young, which we didn't realize was a meal rather than just the entree. It was the best Egg Foo Young she had ever had! Great flavor, not overly salty.
