Pleasantly surprised by Bistro 221. It's in a very small town along I-95, and you wouldn't necessarily expect much - but it delivers. From the first phone inquiry to the experience in the restaurant, the people were genuinely polite and welcoming. The atmosphere felt calm, relaxed, and easy. The food exceeded expectations. The Cobb salad was especially good - fresh, well-balanced, and thoughtfully put together, with healthy ingredients and no bacon, which I appreciated. The shrimp tacos were excellent, topped with a slightly sweet/spicy, mysterious sauce that worked really well. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!!! read more

We had lunch here for the first time today. They have street parking or parking in the back. There is a bar area, general sitting area or a few tables under a cover porch for nice days. The staff were all very polite and friendly. We were seated quickly with drink orders taken. It took a few minutes to get the drinks, but thats OK. A larger table was seated before us so its all good. We placed our food order of the Loaded Fries for an appetizer, 2 Killer Club sandwichs(pesto on the side)with fries, Secret Philly with onion rings and the Blackened Fish Tacos with the chips salsa and queso. The Loaded Fries were delicious! Plenty of bacon and queso on them. The Philly was delicious, onion rings hot and crispy. The kids loved their Club sandwiches. They were HUGE and the kids could have easily split one. The Blackened Fish Tacos were the only negative on our trip. They were pale colored, hardly warm, and the slaw was soggy. Honestly they were aweful! My husband tried a bite and said it tasted like it was from yesterdays trash. I have seen tons of good reviews on them so I'm not sure if they have been changed or I got them on a bad day or what. I hate sending food back, so I just ate them. I tried throwing pesto from the clubs, salsa or queso on bites trying to make them better, but nothing really helped. Overall we will definitely be back again, just not ordering the tacos! read more

Wow! What a turn around! We'd visited this restaurant three or four times in the past - the first time being when it first opened (great experience) and every subsequent visit went further and further down hill. But today - REDEMPTION! We'd been out and about running errands and decided, that after all this time, we'd give it another try and I'm so glad we did. We sat at the bar and the service was exceptional. The bartender was warm, friendly, professional, and efficient. He greeted us in a friendly manner, had our drink orders ready almost immediately, and, later, when my husband wanted to switch beers, gave him a sample to make sure he liked it. (Frothy Beard Rye something or other. He loved it!) They had a great drink menu, but I stuck with water. Maybe next time, I'll try one of the excellent beers or cocktails they offer. The menu has changed since the last time we were there (again, years ago) and it was really fun pub fare. Our app was a basket of fried pickles and they were delicious. The batter is light and crispy and they're just perfect. My fish and chips order was the perfect size, cooked to perfection and the fish was tender and tasted great. My husband had the "Green Eggs and Bacon Burger." It was so good, he ate the entire thing, which he NEVER does, anywhere we go. He said that the pesto on the burger was a brilliant idea and the egg that topped the burger was perfectly cooked with that runny yolk he likes so much. We both liked the fries, too. They're a little different - maybe double fried? Not sure but they were GREAT - crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and had good flavor. So good. In any case, this just goes to show you that one or two or three bad experiences shouldn't prevent you from giving an establishment ONE more try. LOL! We'll definitely be back! read more

We were driving from Florida to NY and needed something non fast food. The wife found this place and we decided to give it a try. What a great find! Service was impeccable, even had some fun ribbing from the waitress at my request to feel at home. Ambiance was amazing even with an event happening on the top floor. Food came out delicious and quickly for how busy they were. Would recommend to anyone looking for a bite to eat and you're sick of the drive thru monotony. read more

Was in town for work. Options for food were limited. This place was recommended to us. So, we gave it a shot. Street parking right out front. We were welcomed immediately upon entering and told we could sit anywhere we wanted. Service was fast and friendly. Restaurant is clean as is the men's bathroom. Food... Ordered the wings app. We wanted 12 but they actually only had 6 left. Strange. The Wings were the hit of the meal. Very big and flavorful. Not very spicy. Philly Cheesesteak - average. The veggies overwhelmed the sandwich as the meat to veggie ratio was way off. (See pic). Also, I don't even remember the cheese so that should tell you something. Bread was good. Fries - awful. They serve those frozen, breaded type of fry - not fresh cut. Probably would not go back. read more

Husband and I went for date night - recommended by our daughter in law. Really nice atmosphere. We went early so it was not busy. I had blackened shrimp tacos which came with salsa and chips. Husband had shrimp Alfredo and a salad. We shared a peach cheesecake for dessert. Husband thought his Alfredo needed salt (easily remedied). I thought it was excellent- Alfredo sauce can be too thick or too watery and this was really good. Tacos were nice. Katie was our server and she was great. Bistro 221 is a true hidden gem. Housed in a gorgeous restored brick building, the space strikes the perfect balance between cozy chic and versatile charm. The upgrades are clearly well thought out--this is a spot that could easily transform into a formal venue, yet it's just as comfortable for a dressed-down, small-town family dinner. The food did not disappoint. We started with the deep-fried catfish pieces, which were light, crispy, and full of flavor. My husband ordered the salmon with vegetables--cooked beautifully--and I enjoyed the Bistro Burger with fries, extra crispy just as I requested. Every dish arrived hot and fresh. To wash it all down, the beer was perfectly cold, and my husband gave two thumbs up to the sweet tea. Service was another highlight. Our server, Ms. Courtney, was spot-on: warm, attentive, and efficient without ever feeling rushed. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and experience offered. Frankly, I'm amazed this place isn't packed more often. Bistro 221 deserves to be buzzing every night. We were on the way home Saturday night and had dogs in tow. I should give this place 3.5 stars, but I'm going to give it 5 Stars because it's dog friendly and the food was great. This was also our first visit, so I am cutting them some slack. My big issue was the service. To say it was slow was an understatement. The fried shrimp and the Bistro hamburger were both excellent. This was our first trip here while we were traveling up I-95. Usually we stop at a different place, as we are limited with restaurants because of our dogs. It was a pleasant surprise. It's a really nice place with a great outdoor area. The food was good and the place has a good menu. My only problem was the EXTRA SLOW service. I think they need to hire a few more people. We were practically ignored outside. Other than it being a 2 hour stop instead of a 1 hour stop, it was good. read more

This place is off the beaten path, in a town that has seen better days in the past. But it is a shining light that will hopefully lead to more positive growth in the area. Why? Because the owners of this place have put in the time and the effort to build a warm establishment, with quaint interiors and exteriors (decorated with amazing old pictures of the town), and supported by a friendly staff. And the food is quite good as well. Although the menu is limited, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal. My wife ordered a salad and I got the chicken salad sandwich (made just a few minutes ago). All the food we ordered used very fresh ingredients and tasted great! Enjoyed my visit to the Bistro. I met a dear friend for lunch. We were seated right away and offered menus. We hadn't seen each other in months so we ended up speaking for over 45 minutes. Wife we ordered anything! Our appetizers were served quickly (once we ordered). They were delicious, we got fried zucchini and pot stirrers. We dove right in and forgot to take a picture. We sat there and spoke for almost two more hours before we finally ordered a main meal. The entire time our server made sure our drinks were filled and never seemed to be trying to rush us. Our food arrived and it was on point. My club sandwich was great tasting and served to perfection. The bistro is a great spot for a meal, the restaurant was clean and welcoming. This is a hidden gem to walk into if you happen to be in the area. It is ideal for lunch, and more so for dinner. It is when you are here you can find the time to go and experience a meal you might never had before. This night we were staying in the area and had to find a place to week. We found the Bistro 221 on the small main road of town. It was in an old converted shop from decades before. On the side walls you can see what was here besides retails and a drug store with a name on it. You event into what might have been the center of two buildings or the interior of the building that was in-between the two shops. You can even see the back of the chimney fireplace here. The waiter was helpful and could answer the questions. His recommendation was ideal as it was the Shrimp and Grits which he liked himself. So, I ordered that as it is a favorite. We also had a BBQ pork sandwich with a house salad. The sandwich was perfect. A good local BBQ that was made in the back and had the right flavor of the cook. It was special as it represented the town and cooking. As for the Shrimp and Grits, this was fresh homemade grits. It had a corn touch in it with a good crunch. It is not what you get in other places that make this dish. Each is different based on the location. For here, it was a very southern feeling. And that is a good taste to have as you have the mix with shrimp and sausage and peppers and onions and the right touch of spice. Along with this we did have fried okra. A rare touch that you found in the south. This was very fresh and had the right amount of bread crumbs to make it light and fine. There is no need for spice as the okra was as it should be. Perfect. It was a compliment to what we had for dinner. Naturally, had to end with a desert. And this night it was freshly made lemon meringue pie. This was made by the pastry chef who made this ideal and of the way you expect. Topped with some whipped creme it was the way you would expect...and with a cup of coffee that tasted like it was made in France. A good way to end the meal. Bistro 221 is a rare find. And it is here with a great team, a good price, and a classic variety to compliment whatever you want to have. It is worth the trip to go back and see what else they might have. read more

5 stars for food - place is 5 stars but a 1 for cleanliness. Probably a cool place in the evening. We were here 3:30. The place in the daylight was a little dirty. There was even a fork on the floor under the table. The tables seemed clean but not glass and bathroom could be picked up better.There was lots of dust on top of copper pendant lights. The salt and pepper shakers were gross. I ordered salmon. It came with vegetables and a side. The iced tea was perfect. It wasn't too strong like so many are. The lemon was bit scrawny. Well, the food was great! The salmon delicious. The vegetables and mashed potatoes were extremely tasty. I mean awesome vegetables! Wow! My husband got a club sandwich. It was huge. He said it tastes great. I am GF so I couldn't taste. Fries were excellent. When my husband asked for a box to take the rest of his sandwich home the waitress, Kira, Said? Stopped by this Bistro on our way to Florida. It is in the center of St. George town east of 77. I enjoyed delicious cranberry, walnut, celery, chicken salad on a dinner salad. My husband had a chicken salad on a Croissant, with fries. His sandwich was topped with tomato & lettuce served on a croissant. They were out of several of the menu items due to an extremely busy holiday week. The rustic ambiance was complemented by friendly, efficient service. Bistro 221 is amazing! The food was outstanding, the ambiance was so inviting, and the customer service was next level. The wings were smoked to perfection! Unfortunately, we blew a tire on I-95, so while my husband was working on that, my 4-year old and I hung out on the couches for a couple of hours. Katie kept checking in on us the entire time we were at the restaurant. She also went above and beyond by even helping me find a phone charger so my husband could keep in contact with me. My husband drives around a lot for work and saw this place on one of his travels. So we went to celebrate my new job. It's a cool space in an old building...lots of exposed brick and pipes. We got the loaded fries as an appetizer which were wonderful!! My husband had a steak and I opted for the grilled fish/shrimp platter. The fish tasted great and was cooked perfectly. We decided to do dessert, although they were out of many selections. My husband had a peanut butter cheesecake of some sort which was really good. I had the strawberry shortcake which was meh. The cake was kinda dry and it didn't have much flavor. I left half of it. The wait staff was great and very attentive. Just on the amenities this place is 5 stars! They graciously welcomed my family who was exhausted and hungry from sitting in a boat load of traffic and needed outdoor dog friendly seating. They gave us that and a heated space with a singer! It was wonderful and just what we needed in a cold night. The food was good too! We got soups (def. Recommend the chicken and rice if they have it). The salads were good too - the citrus vinaigrette was lovely. The kids mess we're well sized and they enjoyed them too. I stopped in here on my way from Charlotte to Hilton Head. I went ahead and sat at the bar. The bartender was quick to greet me and take my drink order. I opted for the fish tacos for my meal. The food and service have declined since 2020. I'm afraid that this restaurant will not survive much longer. The menu has definitely changed and not for the better. Super bland and boring menu. Upon entering the establishment, I noticed all patrons must wear a mask. Bistro 221 is so clean and inviting as the scent of baked goods fills the air. The friendly waitress was fast and professional. I love the scan menu. The Restaurant is on top of all sanitation requirements. I witness the hostesses and waitress wipes the counter, tables, and another surface. The fried green tomatoes were the best I've tasted. The fish taco had a layer of robust favor. This place shines brighter than anything else I saw in town. Under new ownership as of this spring. The inside is beautiful and classy with wood and exposed brick, a beautiful bar and a bakery area. I chose to sit outside on the covered patio. There is a large L shaped patio and a grassy area for yard games while you wait for your order. There were multiple fans but they could use another on a hot day. Great menu with a variety of staples. Everything I ordered tasted great. Service was very attentive. I suggest a reservation if you have a large party or are coming on a night like trivia. Great experience, I'll be back. read more

Great find in the small town of Saint George! We were looking for a local restaurant not too far off the interstate and this gem was a winner! Eight miles off the interstate in the downtown Saint George, Great service, a southern menu of fried chicken, butter beans, rice, cornbread and Mac and cheese.
