This was our first time in this establishment. It was quiet and relaxing. There were tall tables in the windows, but we chose a small secluded table in the back. Staff were polite and quick with any request. I am a suckered for salmon and would definitely come back for it here. My husband generally hates grits, but actually enjoyed the cheese grits because they were thick and reminded him of cheesy chunky mashed potatoes. He enjoyed his Highwayman burger in the puffed pastry. The fries were basic crinkle fries. Our drinks came out decently fast and we're delicious. First time coming to this Grille, very friendly staff from the moment we walked in to our dinner service. We decided to just sit at the bar after a very long car ride of traveling. We had an adult beverage and then ordered the grouper bites. They were delicious and highly recommend. We decided to share a salad w/grilled chicken and the chopped steak and mashed meal. Both were so delicious and portions were so big we still had leftovers after sharing. We decided to have dessert as well. I did the cheesecake with strawberry topping. In this quaint, sleepy little town we found this unique restaurant. Service was friendly. The owner was very personable. The seating is widely spaced and dining is leisurely. The menu wasn't very broad, but thoughtful. They make their own ranch dressing, which was delicious on the crunchy house salad. The black and blue burger was big and juicy. Served over a pile of mashed potatoes and covered in mushroom gravy. I have found that the interpretation on shrimp and grits is wide and varied. Although I do enjoy my grits on the creamier side, I certainly don't want them swimming. This dish of shrimp and grits were swimming in a very rich Parmesan cream sauce. But the shrimp were tender and the overall dish peppered w scallions, plum tomato, and fresh spinach was very tasty. The portions are huge so more than enough for lunch the next day. read more

Lol, not my first time at Main Street grille, will be my last until the inevitable change of ownership. Not overly busy sat down at 6 ordered a couple of cheeseburgers and waited By 6:45 was concerned about the wait so I when asked how I was doing by the hostess simply said "kind a long wait, so she went to check and never came back. Few minutes go by, waitress asks y'all doin ok, responded an hour is a long time for cheeseburgers, she goes to check,. After waiting a few more minutes go by without an update so we get up to leave as the waitress is returning, not with food in hand but to tell us it's in the window to which I replied that's ok we're good as my wife attempted to settle up for our drinks and cheese stick appetizer. When some clown, probably the owner but maybe a cook emerged to tell us that's fine I don't want y'all to eat here anyway to which I did in fact laugh out loud. He then got visibly upset and says we'll I am glad you think that's funny! I laughed a little more and said it's f'n hilarious and we walked out. Went down the road and enjoyed a nice dinner at Waffle House, had food on the table cooked perfectly in under 15 minutes, save time and money, just go to WaffleHouse! read more

We had mixed feelings stepping into this place-- both from seeing some other very negative reviews first and from finding a totally empty dining space when we walked up to the door, at about 8:30 pm on a Wednesday night. But we didn't want to go into a place that was closing up just after we'd enter, and most other restaurants we looked at were either too far away or closing at 9-- so we went in. It wasn't great, but I sure had no big problems with it and if faced with the same circumstances, would surely go again. The positive start with the fact that it is open a bit later than many other places there in Walterboro, and it has a full bar. And honestly, I'd say that the bar food items we had were rather good- including very tasty and crisply fried onion rings and actually some of the best fried pickle spears I've ever had. (They used a much thinner slice of pickles than usual, so there wasn't that ultra-sharp contrast between fried outer side and wet, sour inner side. I liked them a lot.) Also had some pretty decent buffalo shrimp-- not too spicy, and with some nice toast pieces to sop up the sauce, if so desired. We also had shrimp and grits. It was somewhat tasty but we both thought the creamy sauce on top was much too prevalent, and there was not enough of either the shrimp or the grits-- not a good thing to say about an eponymous dish like shrimp and grits! If we hadn't ordered other items, I'd have wanted the bread that came with the buffalo shrimp to take up that excessive sauce, to be very filled. We found the place clean and the service just fine. I did mention they had a full bar, eh? Overall, this is definitely closer to 4 stars than to 2...and remember that 3 stars means it's perfectly OK!!! read more

One of the best local spots in Walterboro, if not the best. Very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere and you're never rushed. I've had their chicken alfredo, salmon, and American burger. I have the appetite of a 12 year old so I usually get their chicken tenders. It seems like they update their menu every now and then so sometimes it's not on there, but it's never been a problem when I ask for it. Recently I've seen that they have some sort of sushi roll as an appetizer, and I was hesitant to try it but it was totally fine. Wasn't really sushi though; kinda just tempura-fried balls of rice, cream cheese, and crab/fish. Drinks are good too. I do wish they were open more than three days though; I'd definitely go on a Saturday night. read more

We were really hoping this would be good because with not a lot of choices in Walterboro, we usually will drive to Charleston or Bluffton for a date night. My hopes were quickly diminished as I walked into the terribly lite restaurant. It didn't take long to figure out why it was so dark... it's to hide how filthy the place is. During my time in South Carolina, I visited Main Street Grille on a number of occasions. We would usually go there for a drink or dinner with a group of friends. There's never any problem in finding seats since there's usually plenty of open tables every night. We were always seated in the back at the tables near the bar. On my first night at Main Street Grille, I ordered the Seafood Combo (crab cake, fried shrimp, and grouper with a side for $21) and we got the Irish Nachos to share ($10). We all got drinks as well, and I chose the Southern Peach Martini. The martini I got was already watered down even before being served to me. The Irish Nachos were awesome...the jalapenos were a nice touch. The seafood combo had its positives and negatives. The positives were the 5 fried shrimp on top and the flounder. Both were hot and crispy. The side of mashed potatoes was pretty good (didn't come with gravy)...I've had way better mashed potatoes at other establishments though. The crab cake was horrendous...fishy to the taste, and burnt on the outside. Crab cakes should never look or taste the way it did here. It was naaaasty. Walterboro doesn't have many restaurants to choose from, so if you do decide to come here, please stick to the basic options. You can't go wrong with their burgers, salads, and appetizers...but don't get any of their fancy seafood options here because you will be disappointed. The Maine st grill in walterboro Sc. Is a great 50's music styled restaurant ! Had appetizers as it was 4 ish, including; she crab soup, Irish potato nachos and chicken wings. The home made soup was fantastic! A server at a local ruby Tuesday's (terrible) recommended we go there and try the Nachos. We did and they were made with scalloped type potatoes in stead of chips. Very different and delicious . Loud 50s music, 2 dollar drafts and great homemade pub fare along with enthusiastic service made for a great stop. read more

She crab soup was room temperature at best, and I had honey mustard wings with lemon pepper on them...which didn't have hardly any sauce on them, were soft and not crispy, and so much lemon pepper on them It made me want to throw up. My coworker had the all American burger and said it was good. Also the beer selection was good. The service on the other hand was outstanding, our servers name was Michaela and she was awesome. Our meal was excellent, but took a fairly long time to be served. This could be due to possibly being short-staffed, but it would have been nice to be told that. No one ever came to our table to let us know anything. We split a meal of hamburger steak with mushroom and onion gravy. One plate was enough to feed both of us and was worth the wait. We got there later in the evening, and even at 8pm on a Wednesday, it was still busy. We would probably try this place again if we're traveling through. This amazing little hidden gem is a must stop!! The food was absolutely AMAZING and the service was TOP NOTCH!! After reading reviews online, my husband and I decided to give it a shot! We are not locals and we're only passing through this beautiful little town. The SHE CRAB soup will make you wish they brought out the entire pot! The cup was such a little tease! After the first bite, I wished I hadn't ordered dinner and just ate the soup until someone had to roll me to the car!! Dinner was just as amazing! Hubs had the Ribeye and sautéd shrimp!! Needless to say, he dang near licked the plate!! The steak was perfect seasoned and cooked to perfection and the shrimp were full of flavor! I had the seafood combo!! YUM!! YUM!!YUM!! The seafood was all perfectly seasoned and I did not want to share a single bite!!! The servers were all so friendly and attentive!! Glasses didn't sit empty long and were refilled quickly! Was traveling with my Dad after a long day on the road from Florida. Stopped into this unassuming place. Arrived at 7, was seated promptly. Dad got the salmon and he said it was some of the best salmon he has ever had. He had a side of perfectly seasoned garlic zucchini and side salad with "chunks of blue cheese." I had the crab cake dinner. This was, hands down, the VERY BEST crab cakes I have ever had. The cakes were accompanied by a sweet, tangy sauce that was out of this world. 99% of the time, crab cakes come traditionally with standard, basic and boring tartar sauce. This sweet, red, tangy chili sauce was a revelation. The cakes were moist she cooked to perfection. Crispy outside, soft and tender on the inside. Definitely not burnt as so many lackluster crab cakes are! Had a side order of grits with cheese and those were also a slam dunk - a 10, just like the crab cakes. In essence, don't be fooled by the quaint, charming and unassuming facade. This restaurant is on par with some of the finest. Very reasonable. Two full dinners with starter salad, and sides, PLUS 2 beers (get the REBEL IPA on draught), PLUS fresh, homemade zesty and not-too-sweet authentic, Southern Key Lime pie, PLUS a cup of freshly brewed coffee all for less than 50 bucks. My wife and I ended up here on the recommendation of our waitress at Cracker Barrel a day earlier. I'm originally from South Carolina, but have been in California for over 40 years and was desperately in need of fresh shrimp. Walked in and wait staff said pick any table we wanted and was quickly there with menus and ready to answer any and all questions. Yes, the shrimp were fresh, never frozen, and yes, they had some local craft beer on draft. Perfect. Drinks arrived promptly (great beer). Salad we received was clearly fresh and not out of a bag (as far too many restaurants serve) and came with a fantastic pomegranate vinaigrette. Shrimp were indeed fresh, and cooked to perfection (not the least bit overcooked), and I received a reasonable portion. This Carolina boy was home! Cheese grits were also quite good. My only complaint was that I knew it might be years before I'd be able to get fresh shrimp again, and asked if I could get an additional half-order of shrimp only. Sorry, but only the full dinner. We dined at this restaurant at the recommendation of our hotel on December 21, 2019. There were 4 in our party and we were seated as soon as we entered. Our service was excellent as well as the food. Our experience is not based on the restaurant so much as the clientele. While dining the couple sitting at the next table got up to leave. The man stood looking down at our table for some time. I thought he was just looking to see what we had ordered. He finally asked how we like the place and we told him that so far it was really good... He then proceeded with " We have coming here ever since this place opened... the service is always good and the food is great, he stated the only downfall was it sometimes got a little noisy but it was a bar. He then said stated " The best thing about this restaurant was "There are no blacks...not none...not ever." He said the reason for this was because the "Place is owned by cops" We were appalled to say the least...how dare he walked up to strangers and say such things. While I don't know if what he said was true but I have taken this restaurant off my list of places to eat. I have also requested that the hotel remove them from their list of places in the area to eat as I wouldn't want a family of color to go there and run into this man or any others of the same kind. I am also writing to the restaurant to let them know what happened so that if they are inclined they can try to do damage control for future guests. read more

We found this gem with pure luck. Fried oysters were to die for. Shrimp & Grits were unexpectedly great. Scallops were sautéed to perfection. Fried Vegetable "side" was the best grilled, buttery yellow squash we have ever had. The quality surpassed some of the best big city restaurants and at 1/4 the cost of a comparable meal. Like many reviewers, we were driving down to Florida and overnighted in Walterboro. Desk clerk recommended the place and we tried it. Very impressed. Staff was friendly, as was the local crowd. It's a basic menu, but it is prepared a cut above. I tried the She Crab soup (yes, in SC) and it was very good. I then had a cheese steak sandwich. Kinda normal, but its flavor was above average. My wife had a chicken Caesar salad. It was well constructed and she commented that the dressing tasted very fresh. Our only negative comment is that the dishes were lukewarm. Would have been even better hot. Strongly recommend. read more
