In this quaint, sleepy little town we found this unique restaurant. Service was friendly. The owner was very personable. The seating is widely spaced and dining is leisurely. The menu wasn't very broad, but thoughtful. They make their own ranch dressing, which was delicious on the crunchy house salad. The black and blue burger was big and juicy. Served over a pile of mashed potatoes and covered in mushroom gravy. I have found that the interpretation on shrimp and grits is wide and varied. Although I do enjoy my grits on the creamier side, I certainly don't want them swimming. This dish of shrimp and grits were swimming in a very rich Parmesan cream sauce. But the shrimp were tender and the overall dish peppered w scallions, plum tomato, and fresh spinach was very tasty. The portions are huge so more than enough for lunch the next day.

Main Street Grille in Walterboro is a great place to go for delicious and flavorful food that is well prepared. I really like the location and relaxed atmosphere that they have created. The staff here is very friendly and attentive.

The picture doesn't portray how poorly lite the restaurant is.

My wife and I have been wanting to try this place for a while. We were really hoping this would be good because with not a lot of choices in Walterboro, we usually will drive to Charleston or Bluffton for a date night. My hopes were quickly diminished as I walked into the terribly lite restaurant. It didn't take long to figure out why it was so dark... it's to hide how filthy the place is. The staff seemed ok (when they weren't taking turns smoking outside the front door). Don't ask me why we ordered drinks before we ultimately left (without eating) but we did. I couldn't wait til we got our check for the drinks so we could hightail it out of there.

Seafood Combo! The crab cake was disgusting..tasted too fishy! But the shrimp & grouper were great! The mashed potatoes were pretty good.

During my time in South Carolina, I visited Main Street Grille on a number of occasions. We would usually go there for a drink or dinner with a group of friends. There's never any problem in finding seats since there's usually plenty of open tables every night. We were always seated in the back at the tables near the bar. On my first night at Main Street Grille, I ordered the Seafood Combo (crab cake, fried shrimp, and grouper with a side for $21) and we got the Irish Nachos to share ($10). We all got drinks as well, and I chose the Southern Peach Martini. The martini I got was already watered down even before being served to me. The Irish Nachos were awesome...the jalapenos were a nice touch. The seafood combo had its positives and negatives. The positives were the 5 fried shrimp on top and the flounder. Both were hot and crispy. The side of mashed potatoes was pretty good (didn't come with gravy)...I've had way better mashed potatoes at other establishments though. The crab cake was horrendous...fishy to the taste, and burnt on the outside. Crab cakes should never look or taste the way it did here. It was naaaasty. Walterboro doesn't have many restaurants to choose from, so if you do decide to come here, please stick to the basic options. You can't go wrong with their burgers, salads, and appetizers...but don't get any of their fancy seafood options here because you will be disappointed. Their bartender is also hit or miss, so don't get yours hopes up too high.

A bit pricey, but excellent food. I recommend the salmon. My friends had the Philadelphia steak sandwich they raved about it.

Host: The host was extremely kind and greeted us with a little Fourth of July dance. It made us feel welcomed and like we would want to come again. 5/5 Waitress: Though she was nice, she was absolutely horrible at "being a good waitress": lack of refills, never getting the sauce we requested, walking around doing nothing. We noticed that the other waitress was on the ball and serving double the tables many times quicker. 1/5 Kindness: All the workers and even the customers were very kind and treated us very well. There were very many "excuse me's," "my pleasure's," and "no problem's." 5/5 Prices: They were not too bad, but they have definitely risen over the past few years. However, nearly all prices have risen, so I guess we can't hold them too accountable. 3/5 Waiting Time: The waiting time was a little disappointed. We noticed that it wasn't very full, and there seemed to be many workers on duty. However, it took well over thirty minutes to receive our food. In addition, we didn't get refills until we were halfway done our food (so around 35-40 minutes). 1/5 Food: While my food was amazing (trio deal), my fellow guest's food was disappointing. For the long wait time, we were expecting it to be amazing. However, the steak was tough and had little flavor, along with the baked potato, which lacked butter and sour cream and was dry. 2/5 Cleanliness: The restaurant was clean and had very little visible blemishes or dirt. The wall of the booths were a little dirty, but not too bad. 4/5 Paying: We had to wait a while to pay because server was nowhere to be found (which by at this point was expected). We were ready to leave for a while and simply had to sit there. 2/5 While this review contained many fives, the main reason we came (the food) and the overall experience was very disappointing. I never understood why so many of these restaurants were closing down, but after this experience, I finally understand why. To average the numbers, it lands on a 2.8/5, which rounds up to a 3.

The employee who brought us our coffees was pleasant, friendly, and efficient. I love blueberry pancakes, and I knew as soon as I looked at their menu what I was ordering. The Pancake Breakfast comes with your choice of pancakes (blueberries always of course), 2 eggs, and choice of meat (bacon for me, tyvm). Cracker Barrels line their walls with such interesting pictures and it was really nice just sitting, relaxing, and scanning the walls while waiting for my pancakes. The pancakes were very good with the exception that they might have been cooked a tad longer to create more of a golden brown color, however the inside was done so no harm done. Before I knew it, my plate was cleaned, my coffee cup empty, and it was time to get back on the bike. A good meal, pleasant service, and a relaxing stop is what you'll find here. Be sure to check them out.

Once seated, our waitress was very nice and quickly brought our drinks, silverware, and hot biscuits. Unfortunately, that's where the positive experience ended. After we finished our biscuits, we noticed our waitress had left (as in, the building entirely). After waiting about 30 minutes, another waitress came over and told us she would be taking over our table. By that point, several tables around us were becoming frustrated as well, with no one receiving food yet. Eventually, the table across from us was served, even though we had been seated before them and were still waiting. After we asked about our order, the new waitress finally checked and said the food would be out shortly. We also never received drink refills, and my sister eventually had to get up and go to the kitchen area herself to get tea. When our food finally arrived, I ordered the hamburger steak with mac & cheese and green beans. The "steak" was essentially just a hamburger patty, and the mac & cheese was cold and bland. On top of that, the noise level from the bus staff was excessive--much louder than expected, with silverware being tossed into containers in a way that was very disruptive. The bathrooms were also not clean and had no toilet paper. I hate leaving negative reviews, but this location has been a disappointment the last several times we've dined here. I will say the retail staff are always great--no issues there. I just wish I could say the same for the dining area.

We've never tried Captain D's but Jeremy really enjoys fried fish. This seemed like something he could eat while driving, but alas they were out of fried fish, and about half of their menu including condiments such as ketchup and cocktail sauce. Nevertheless we were able to cobble together two meals, and neither of us had any complaints. Jeremy had fried shrimp and popcorn shrimp with hush puppies (I love how many restaurants in the south have these on their menu. These were perfect, if not a tiny bit too salty). I had chicken tenders (they actually had honey mustard dipping sauce, which is my preferred sauce when it comes to chicken) and some amazing cole slaw (not mushy). Even though we couldn't have several of our first choices (out of jalapeno poppers), what we did eat was crispy and delicious. I wouldn't mind trying Captain D's again, sometime in the future, when we're on yet another epic adventure. Sorry no pics. It was difficult to juggle the clambox containers on my lap in a moving vehicle.

I placed my order at 9:04 p.m. Knowing it was busy, I sat down and waited patiently. And waited. For 45 minutes. During that time I watched what felt like everyone else get their food. At least 20 other customers were served while my order disappeared from the "Now Serving" screen. I never complained or caused a scene. After realizing I'd been waiting 45 minutes, I simply walked to the counter and said, "This is crazy. I've been waiting 45 minutes and you've served at least 20 other people while I've been sitting here." The manager told me she would refund my order. I thanked her, assuming it was an apology for the excessive wait while they finished making my food, so I sat back down. Ten minutes later, after still receiving nothing, I went back to ask about it again. That's when she informed me she had refunded me because she was refusing to serve me for being "rude." Rude? Apparently asking where your food is after waiting nearly an hour now qualifies as being rude. I never yelled. I never cursed. I never threatened anyone. I simply asked about an order I'd been patiently waiting on for 45 minutes. The situation became so ridiculous that another customer in line offered to pay for our meal herself and begged the manager to just feed my family. A complete stranger had more compassion than the person running the restaurant. My husband eventually came inside, calmly explained that the situation was unacceptable and would be reported to corporate, and suddenly we were handed our food after 10:00 p.m. If I was truly being refused service, why did that decision suddenly change? To make matters worse, after all of that, our order was still missing roughly a quarter of the food. Long waits happen. Mistakes happen. What should never happen is treating a customer like they're the problem simply because they asked about an order after waiting nearly an hour. If you're traveling on I-95 and thinking about stopping here, I'd strongly recommend choosing literally any other place to eat. This wasn't just slow service. It was some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. The food was disgusting as well when we finally did receive it.
