Periwinkle Kitchen was a short drive from our villa on Kiawah Island. We were greeted by the friendly staff and seated immediately. We went for dinner, but I had my eye on the chicken biscuit with pimento cheese and hot honey. Our waitress said I could still order that even at dinnertime, and it was delicious. It was served with cheese grits, and I enjoyed those as well. Others in my group got the chicken salad croissant and the fried shrimp plate. Everyone enjoyed their food. This place is super unassuming, but is a hidden gem. Family owned and operated, you are welcomed as soon as you enter the building. The coffee drinks are delightful, and the food is outstanding. My wife ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and coleslaw which she enjoyed very much. I was sick during the trip, so didn't have much appetite, but still ended up devouring my shrimp po boy sandwich. The fries and fried shrimp were very crispy without being too oily. Tasted like they were using fresh oil. The poboy was served with pickled onions and a tangy Remoulade sauce. My husband and I stopped at Periwinkle Kitchen for dinner on a Saturday. This is located off of Betsy Kerrigan Pkwy. There is plenty of parking. The chicken was grilled and moist and tender and well seasoned. The sweet potato fries were cut in large wedges. They were crispy and topped with sea salt. The daily specials are listed and they offer a varied menu that will suit any discerning palate. I really enjoyed my meal and will be back again and recommend this place to friends and family. We've actually been here twice ... our first visit was about two years ago. The new owners had just taken over the space, and they were rebranding from Hemingway's to Periwinkle Kitchen. On our most recent visit, the team seems to be settled and thriving! We stopped by for breakfast on the patio before our long road trip back home. There's something on their menu for everyone. I ordered (and devoured) the regular Avocado Toast. My mother-in-law went with the "Avo Cobb" toast, which is similar to the original, just loaded with bacon, bleu cheese, and hard-boiled eggs - reminiscent of a classic Cobb salad. My husband ordered the Rise & Shine sandwich, and my father-in-law went with their Wake Up Plate. The service was wonderful from start to finish ... our server even brought out a bowl of water for our dogs (who really would have preferred a piece of bacon). Every single bite was a roller coaster of flavor, and I left the restaurant happy and full. No, no! Don't change a thing! The lasagna had the perfect amount of cheese - noticeably generous, but not grotesque. The sauce was so vibrant, tasty and fresh! And my family was satisfied for both dinner AND lunch the next day! The quinoa salad was bursting with flavor and a beautiful bouquet of light and fresh vegetables. Somehow it didn't even seem like drudgery to be eating so clean! Scrumptious! And, talk about the delicious house-made Greek yogurt parfait with equally delicious fruit compote. Of course, it was made in-house too, and topped with gluten free granola! I'm not even kidding! Clearly I wiped out the inventory when I raided their take-away cooler. (So, good luck with that!)
