I've been studying here 3-5 days a week for the last several weeks and it's the best. The baristas are exceptionally kind. They take the time to learn your order and always ask about your day. Even the manager took the time to remember my order. They offer free refills on hot and iced coffee for in-house guests. While the drinks and food are great ... There seems to be an overwhelming acceptance of homeless people sleeping at the booths. Several times I have visited and the same lady is there sleeping. I am not one to be judgmental but it is a bad experience for guests. I have a heart for the homeless so I'm not trying to be mean, but it is not a good look for any business. A couple times there are homeless people with her and are being loud and obnoxious, and they smell pretty bad. Wish I didn't have to leave a review like this but, it pretty bad. read more

Went looking for good venue for a unit gathering. Plenty of space, the organic coffee I ordered was really good. The young lady who waited on me seemed annoyed to be taking my order and when I asked what coffees were on brew she was terse. It was my first time in there, so I will try again before deciding to hold an event here. Good service is very important. read more

Great little coffee shop! Nice cozy environment inside, outdoor patio seating available with views of the water. The music is a nice upbeat variety that is loud enough to drown out ambient noises but not distract you from studying or reading. *sigh* where to begin...let me try to be objective. The coffee: Yeah, it was decent. It was hot. The cup didn't leak. It gave me the caffeine boost I needed to get through the day. No problems here, I suppose. Drive through: Service was prompt. The speaker worked well, and my order was delivered as ordered. Location: No other coffee shops in the immediate area. Easy to find. And they've got drive through. Service: Ok, so here's the only bone I have to pick with this place. Maybe I was being overly sensitive...maybe it was early in the morning. But just because you're one of the only few coffee chains in the area, it doesn't give you the right to be uber condescending when your patrons don't know your organization specific name for the drink they ordered. I ordered a large coffee with two shots of espresso, black. It's clear, it's concise. I don't know if you call it a hammerhead, or a red eye, or a jackhammer or whatever the hell else corporate decided to call it. That being said, when I give an otherwise clear order for caffeine (and a lot of it), I don't need to have some chipper/judgey girl correct me over the speaker and say, "*sigh* oh, you mean you want a ___...". The pretentiousness and attitude are nearly enough to make me just head to the gas station down the road and get a 24oz coffee for a buck fifty than run the risk of having some faux-hipster give me attitude when I'm ordering my coffee (and in obvious need of caffeine if I'm ordering a large coffee and two add-shots). Blah...just changed my review to a two star from a three. So frustrated just recounting the experience that I probably won't ever go back. read more

Got a quite decent espresso drink here on a trip back from the beach--in what some might call an espresso-desert. Staff was a tad less than friendly, but my bacon, egg, and cheese english muffin sandwich hit the spot (even though it was obviously a nuked and somewhat soggy affair, as another reviewer has pointed out). I also forgave the whip cream I requested they hold on my mocha because it was a well-balanced drink and it did the job of pleasantly waking me up for the drive home. Went there before school. I asked for no whip cream, and they put it on there. The white chocolate mocha was so strong, I was unable to drink it. 4.17 for a medium off brand coffee... Ridiculous! Would much rather pay half the price at dunkin or Starbucks .. At least I know it will be made right and taste a lot better! Will not be going back read more

Let me start off by saying that I love Port City Java. I was beyond excited when they opened a Jacksonville location. Overall, their establishment is great. I try to be understanding with a military town that solid staff is harder to come by (since not many people stay for a long enough time to become truly invested). Most of the staff is wonderful but there are a few who could use better training and manners. The quality of the drinks is enough to keep me coming back but, if anyone from corporate is reading this, you may want to keep an eye on manners with a few of the employees read more

I wish I hadn't of spent so much money at this place, they have good coffee but the customer service is crap. I have been going here for a year now , I order the same thing, they get it wrong almost every time and then they turned downright rude. I could understand if I had some crazy over the top order but seriously it's a simple ice coffee with flavor and whipped cream. They get upset every time I send my order back because they got my order wrong. Maybe they should have a better ordering process to avoid mistakes since they can't remember the same order I place daily. It's not hard. So I will no longer be spending money there. read more

Inexperienced staff, they don't know what they have in stock or what there menu is, they got couple orders wrong in the ten min I was their, and it took forever just to get a bagel and hot tea. If you want a coffee place or anything like that your better off at Starbucks. read more

I have been coming to Port City Java for almost 2 1/2 years now and I a lot has changed since I first started going there. At first, it was a quiet shop that was an escape from the neighboring coffee shops that were more congested and rowdy. It used to be a place where families could come and enjoy their breakfast/lunch in a quiet setting. Now it seems it's attracted the wrong crowd. I have recently witnessed shirtless individuals outside the establishment taking up parking spaces. Not only are they outside but sometimes inside as well and they tend to loiter all day using the wifi with no intention of leaving anytime soon. One gentleman in particular will take up a whole booth and watches movies on his phone on full volume with no consideration of the patrons around him. I recall seeing a family about to have lunch and couldn't find a place to sit because he would refuse to move. I now use the drive-thru after witnessing this. Another feature that that has changed are some of the Baristas, (the one with pink hair) has a certain tone to her voice where it may seem to come off rude/sarcastic when ordering a drink. So I have become a gigantic fan of Port City Java. This location was the first Port City Java I tried and I was pleasantly surprised. Its reasonably priced and the taste of their products are always good! And the number one thing I love is that their seasonal syrups and flavoring aren't actually seasonal you can get them all year round! So in the summer when I'm craving fall flavors. I can just hit up Port City Java for a pumpkin spice Latte. The only downside is that it can take a little time getting through the drive thru. Totally less time than Starbucks though! read more

Incredible coffee shop with a relaxed environment. I've been here many times and I continue to go out of my way to get drinks here. The employees work hard and the drinks and food reflect that. I am such a fan of port city java. I normally either choose Starbucks for the frappachinos or Dunkin donuts for actual coffee. One day on a whim I decided to try it out. I noticed under seasonal it had pumpkin spice. I asked if they had gotten theirs in yet because frankly its never too early for pumpkin spice anything. The employee replied "yes we actually carry it year round" this made me an instant customer. So I got the iced pumpkin spice latte. Which was amazing by the way. It wasn't a strong pumpkin flavor which I like. It just was delicious. Now its hard for me not to stop by before and after work. The prices are pretty decent too! Which is always a plus! Havent tried any of the baked goods or food yet but hopefully soon. There was one day I was waiting along time. About 10 minutes. They ended up giving me the drink free since I waited so long which I thought was nice. read more
