Omg this place is beautiful! I've been many times and enjoyed everything. Fresh guacamole is the best in town, and I love all of their delicious cocktails. I don't understand how so many people complain about the margaritas not tasting strong or "traditional" or being expensive....they pour 1.5 oz shots into every single drink where a lot of the cheaper places pour only an ounce ( you pay for what you get people). And no, they don't taste like your "traditional" green mix garbage because they pay someone to juice fresh key limes for hours every single morning! If you get one of their many infused tequilas ( my favorite is the fresa, strawberry infused tequila) of course it tastes like juice- isn't that the point?!?! It still has the same alcohol content!!!!!!
Then I see all of these negative reviews of so many people from
California who claim to all be experts on what traditional Mexican food should taste like......seriuosly, shut up! You are not an expert because you live near another country. There are many regions and different styles of food and preparation for the whole country of Mexico. Poquitos bases their flavors on the Oaxacan region, so if you don't personally like those flavors, that's ok, but don't insult an entire regions cuisine because you "are from Cali and know what true Mexican should taste like".
I was talking to one of the employees there one day and she told me how the owners and chef actually took 12 of their staff to Mexico for their 5 year anniversary, as a training experience! I bet they know a bit more about Mexican food than you do
Lastly, I've tried most things in the menu cause I live nearby and LOVE the place and was actually sitting next to someone at the bar one day and observed a whole shitty situation. A guy ordered the pork tacos plate, but didn't want any of the toppings ( no avocado salsa, no onion and no sour cream). The bartender, super cute, always attentive Adam mentioned that the dish might be a little too dry with just pork and tortillas. But that's what the guy wanted, they came out looking small ( obviously, half the food the guy wanted removed) and the guy complained and asked why he didn't get extra pork since he didn't get the other stuff. HAhaha!
Sorry dude, it doesn't work like that!!!!!! * I'll have the steak salad, no lettuce, sub extra steak* keep dreaming!
But then, he complained they were dry, duh, and didn't want to pay for them. And then he wrote a bad yelp review!
I saw it and was so mad i had to write this to counteract how frustrating people are that complain about the most ignorant things.
Yes, it's a little expensive. It is in the heart of downtown, rent isn't cheap im sure, so you pay for location, a gorgeous atmosphere with heated seats and indoor firepits to keep you warm in Seattle, well, most of the year, and misters on the patio to keep you cool for the hot summer months. I've always encountered friendly staff, even after they have to cater to asshats like the pork taco guy everyday, traditional Oaxacan food and freshly juiced lime in every single margherita.
You have to pay for your chips and salsa because you aren't at Azteca! They don't give you 3 different salsas made fresh DAILY with organic produce! I'd rather pay for that than have a pureed can of tomatoes for free any day!!!!!!
So basically, I hope this gives some insight into how good this place really is, and to ignore most of the people that are leaving bad reviews ( or try to realize that you are really only getting one side of the story- as one review says, yes, you came in on cinco de mayo and were surprised to get a table right away and then had to wait 10 minutes for your drink. Uuuuummmm, busiest day of the year in a Mexican restaurant in a place that shakes every single margarita with fresh juiced lime, and you are complaining about walking in, getting seated with no wait and having a delicious marg in hand in ten minutes! You sir, with your 2 star review based solely on that, are a douche! ) Ignore those people and go try it for yourself, I know you.'ll love it! read more
