Was looking for a place to eat lunch and strolled across this spot. The restaurant is huge with an indoor eating area as well as an outdoor atrium/bar with fireplaces. We decided to sit at the atrium, it was really cute and warm! Our server was quick to greet us and take our orders. I ordered the tortilla soup which was yummy, and my friend ordered the nachos, both came in large portions and left us feeling full! We bought chips and salsa, it's too bad they don't have it for free at this spot but it's ok. The menu had a variety of options with fair prices, I did find it weird that the menu didn't have burritos on it though, kind of odd for a Mexican restaurant? All in all, a good experience and I would likely return on my next visit to Seattle! read more

The Ditchweed Tequila cocktail was perfect. Just a bit of tequila and a lot of lime. Simple and delicious. Also the shrimp ceviche was so fresh and the corn esquites app was yummy. I loved the sauce. read more

(Delivery Review) Been searching and sampling for the 6 years I've lived here and this is now my go-to Mexican in Seattle. The style is a bit unique - lime juice and zest abound - but the effect is fantastic and flavorful. The menu rotates a bit on a reasonable schedule and I've been happy with all the new options. The cheese-toasted quesadillas are a requirement, their "meat platter" is ridiculous, and the fish tacos are amazing both fried and grilled. (I've never been to the location so I can't speak for service or drinks). read more

A Brunch Review! Great Mex Breakfast items and Bloody Maria's! But the true brunch\lunch star was the Tortilla Soup. Funny thing was we were actually heading out to get Pho and then suddenly changed our mind and headed into Poquitos for a Brunch time soup. Glad we checked this out! For a measly 6 bucks you can get a excellent Chicken tortilla soup with a decent spice level. The Bloody Maria's came with Jalapeno Pepper infused vodka and prickled treats! Friendly service and a fun bright atmosphere on the fire pit open seating side of the restaurant, this may very well be my new wintertime hang out! read more

Poquitos doesn't open for brunch until 11:00am on Sundays. At first, I thought this weird, but when we showed up, no one was there. Two other parties trickled in while we were there, and that was it. Strange, because, Sunday brunch! Where were all the people? In bed, hungover? The menu is basically breakfast with a Mexican twist, along with a few regular taco plates. We started off with chips, guacamole, and salsa, which were serviceable. My huevos rancheros were just ok. Nothing to rave about. My friend's chicken & waffles was intense. Basically half a fried bird on a waffle. The other two entrees weren't particularly memorable in any way either. I think one was fish tacos, and the other was breakfast tacos? Anywho, service was good, because there were only three occupied tables. Food was ok, but not good enough that I'll be back anytime soon. There are far better brunch options on the hill. read more

Still not entirely sold on this place. The food isn't bad, but it isn't crazy good either. I think the one liner review of this place would be to come for the margaritas and small bites, but not for the meals. The food is about as Mexican as Seattle can get (sorry, I'm going to be a snob and say that Seattle can't seem to get Mexican food anywhere near as good as it should be), but their guac is actually pretty decent and compliments their margaritas nicely. Last time I was here we ended up getting three each without realizing it had been a while (for me at least) since I'd drank that much. I left my sunglasses there, darn it all. Some of their other small bites are okay and apropos to compliment the drinks. I would not elect to come here for a meal, as I think the food is generally pretty average. But the patio area is nice to have few with friends. Typical Capitol Hill people there. If they added a piñata that hung from the ceiling with tacos inside.. this place would get an extra star. Alas. read more

One thing to say.... Chopped salad for lunch!! Main reason for the stars. I work close by and poquitos is probably my favorite place for lunch because of this salad. It's seriously good y'all, and for you non-vegetarians adding chicken or steak is the way to go and will make your salad super filling without weighing you down. Other than that poquitos is nothing to rave about. The other menu items are average, service is average, drinks are decent. If you're looking for a happening place to dine or get a drink, the bar in the back is a nice spot. Big space with nice open bar area with fire pits to sit around. Usually gets pretty busy but not too crowded where you can't enjoy your company. Can't hurt to get some good ol' chips and guacamole with your margarita either. read more

Had a great time at Poquitos for Happy Hour tonight. Negro Modelo on tap, toquitos, empanadas, tacos with guacamole & chips. It was tasty, high quality food & the service was superb. The guacamole was fresh but could use a little more flavor. The other items were very flavorful though. I forgot my North Face Gore-Tex coat there and our waitress rescued it for me. I'm going back soon for sure. I'm a fan of this comfortable place. read more

Sometimes the food is good, sometimes not. The wait staff is typically pretty friendly even though busy. Occasionally you'll get someone rude and not helpful. We got a chicken quesadilla and it came with no chicken. The waitress insisted we just get a side of chicken for us to add in ourselves.... Maybe she doesn't really get that a quesadilla usually has everything inside melted together. Somewhat cool atmosphere, clean for Capitol Hill. read more

It was one of my favorite places in Capitol Hill until an incident happen in there. I arrived to meet this person that was already sitting in the bar section that is 21 plus part of the restaurant. The person wanted to try the Margarita that I ordered, while from far I heard someone said do not do that. I did not understood why, therefore I did not ask since I could misheard that. Next couple of weeks I returned to meet a coworker, and a employee arrived to say " we will not serve you here anymore". I was why? You gave alcohol to a minor. I had no idea that is was a minor, even the person said was 23. Also I meet the person in the bar area, where the responsability is of the restaurant is to card each person since it is clearly marked 21+ section. If you do a bad behaviour you inmediately tell the customer or invite them to leave, but they allowed me to stay longer (1 hour more), order more drinks and food. Why? Scared that I will not pay the bill? The employee was rude, and not professional at all. I heard from other friends that they do not go to poquitos because they felt discrimination in thr service or even are denied service without reason. I could not believe that, and they always ask me to change of location, now I see why. read more

Went with the girls and had a bite of the Guacamole, ceviche, chicken tortilla soup,Tamale, the corn, la pastor taco and the flan. Also drank the Jala-pena cocktail, La Fiona cocktail. -- Guacamole is very very chunky... and not guacamole like - but it's good. Good lime, cilantro... but Barrio does Guac a lot better. -- Ceviche was probably one of my favorite dishes there. -- Flan was good... but a little way to firm for my taste (baked here, not boiled) -- Everything else was ok. Drinks were pretty good. -- La fiona... don't know if I'd order that again. It was pretty good... -- Jala-pena cocktail... don't know if I'd order that again, too. It was ok. Best thing about this place is the decor/ambiance. Great job with that. read more

We came to this place and were charmed by the outside instantly! Upon entering we were greeted by a friendly hostess. She guided us back to a section in the far end of the bar. It was so charming. The fire pits they have are so entrancing. Not to mention; they warm you up in these chilly, winter months. Our Bartender was on point with the food provisions and libations. WE LAUGHED and shared stories. If you come here, you will not be disappointed. Get the chicken nachos and empanadas and you can thank me later ! 5/5 stars! read more

We did their outdoor lunch dining, which was still warm and service was great! We got the half size guacamole which was perfect for 2 people, the chicken quesadilla, and the kale and mushroom veggie burrito where the vegetables were spiced perfectly. My husband and I love Poquitos. We've enjoyed eating here for years- so much so that we hired their taco cart for our wedding. The food is consistently good, although it can be a little too spicy for my taste. Working with Liz (GM) and Manny (Chef) to book the cart and set the menu was a breeze- they were generous and helpful in meeting with us and making sure we got what we wanted, from re-wrapping the taco meat for late night burritos at our reception to making sure we got a taste test before the menu was finalized. The only thing that had us worried was that our venue required insurance information from Poquitos, and my first request for it was missed until I followed up in the last rush of wedding preparations, right before our permit forms were due. But it all got taken care of in the nick of time, and on the day of, everything was wonderful. read more

It's cinco de mayo and our table of 7 was seated within 15 minutes. Score! A circular bar is the highlight of the large space, which would be a great pre game spot before the next adventure. Our server was slightly below average as he never obtained our drink order and was missing in action for the couple moments I wish he was there. Never the less, it was late and still busy. I ordered the sampler taco plate which came with 3 tacos (carnitas, chicken and steak) and a bowl of black beans/rice. The tacos were LOADED with protein, I wished they offered it on a larger tortilla, cuz the filling kept falling out with each bite. The CARNITAS was slightly dry, but good in flavor. The STEAK was flavorful as well with a above average cut of meat. The CHICKEN was juicy and flavorful. Their spicy jalapeño MARGARITA was not spicy. I asked for a shorty to reduce the amount of liquid calories involved. Tasted alright, imo. Their GUACAMOLE was delicious, but their basket of chips looked like someone took a hammer to it a couple times. It was a large basket of CHIPS though. Chips are pre-packaged? I also tried the chicken enchilada roja. It was extremely dry and felt like I was just eating a flour tortilla l. I had to sauce that thing up with the orange hot sauce to take it down. Worth it? I'd come back for a drink or two if I'm in a larger group setting, but at the price point especially during happy hour time, there are other locations nearby. read more

We went to the Capital Cider restaurant but they won't serve you if you aren't vaccinated, so we came to Poquitos and they were more than happy to take our group of 7. Fun Sunday Brunch spot. The atmosphere was lively and the service was on point. We ordered the potato and chorizo breakfast skillet and the ceviche. The ceviche came with a pretty great sized portion and was prepared well. The skillet was on the heavier side but had great flavor. We ordered the house marg and the purist. Honestly, could drink 3 of these and be very happy but we behaved ;) As visitors from out of town, this was a very solid Mexican restaurant in a cute neighborhood. read more

Visited on a Friday night and vibe/atmosphere was cool. Good place to grab some drinks and a bite with friends. I don't remember the waitress's name but she was so sweet and did really well. Great service. Ordered the grilled corn and ceviche for appetizer. The grilled corn wasn't as good as street food version but still enjoyed it. Ceviche was better after adding some more lime. We ordered the torta and chicken enchilada suiza and both were pretty good. Would especially recommend the torta. read more

When you can take the pebble from my hand.... you will be ready, Grasshopper. I didn't try them, but once I saw the grasshoppers on the menu, I spent then next two hours with reruns of Kung Fu dancing in my head. A little distracting, but then pretty loud to have a conversation for sure. Place is super busy on weekends, reservations are highly recommended. Great location for a couple drinks, some food, and then around the corner to Century Ball Room for some salsa. The food is excellent, our scallop ceviche was some of the best ceviche I have had, and they obviously make their own chips and tortillas which are fab! But the little cup of 12 or so chips is it, no refill. Ambience is great, good start to a date night and if dancing is your next step, you don't want to fill up on chips and such anyway... and send me a note if you want to split a plate of grasshoppers...nobody at my table would! read more

Never go to Capitol Hill because I stay clear of the city, but my daughter and her friend invited me to come with them for lunch on a Sunday and was I happy I did! Was going to have the Chicken Tortilla Soup, but it was shredded chicken, which I abhor, so had the chicken quesadillas. WOW, were they great! Excellent cheese and great chicken breast made for some delightful fare. Honestly, the flavor was delish and I so enjoyed them and the price was right! The other two had some margaritas and were obviously happy but I nearly shit at the prices for those little glasses of booze! Been a lot of years since I drank and I know I could never afford to go to restaurants if I did! Waiters must hate seeing me because my typical bill is about $20 when the hubs and I go out to eat...LMAO Great meal though even though the damn sports shit was on that day! read more

Poquitos - Tortilla Soup but better than you've had before - Mexican Near Me - Seattle, Washington

Poquitos is not bad. I wish I could do like 3.5 stars instead of 3. 3 is a low ball but 4 would be pushing too high. My first experience with Poquitos was in the dining room. My Mom had a sampling of the tacos with a pork, a beef, and a chicken taco. Nothing note-worthy, but A-Ok, and somewhere between what I would call white people Mexican and actual Mexican. She especially liked the radish on one of the tacos, but none of it was really exceptional. I had the quesadilla and gucacamole, which were both, again, on the high end of Alrigh or Acceptable. I like plain cheese quesadillas with lots of salsa to dip them in, and the salsa was good. My only complaint was that the cheese was layered into this quesadilla so thickly that it was almost like eating straight cheese in a solid block. Totally 100% overpowered the tortilla. Luckily, cheese is pretty tasty in general so I still ate a decent portion of it before the richness overpowered me. On my most recent Poquitos visit, I brought a grumpy Canadian who only likes white people Mexican, and even that sparingly. He grumped at the notably short menu--it's worth knowing that their dining room, at least at 4:00 on a Sunday, was not open, and the full menu was not available at that time. The bar menu is pretty extensive for just a happy hour sort of bar menu, but still limited comparatively. It was a delightful surprise to my grumpy Canadian that the pork and pineapple tacos were actually very good. He downed both of them in about 30 seconds. I had black bean tostadas, which were much better than the quesadilla but kind of swimming in lettuce and sour cream whereas they could've been better with more black beans. I do like that Poquito's is sufficiently Americanized enough to have big bowls of warm chips on the table, though I don't recall this being a given either time. I think I had to ask on the first occasion and on the second they came with our food because I ordered guacamole. The decor is interesting--very Day of the Dead chic with a lot of red and black, but pleasing if you like that sort of thing, and the patio is begging for major parties. The service was notably slow the second time, but the waitress was well aware of this and apologized. She had a very large party aside from us, so it was understandable. The service was notably bad the first time--I couldn't ever find the guy. No excuse was offered. Overall, it's alright. It's Mexican, which there is surprisingly little of in this food loving city, and it's better than taco bell. Worse than most of the Mexican I had back in Tennessee, but for Seattle, on the better end of the spectrum. read more

Was told the wait would be 35-45 minutes, no heads up of a possibility that we wouldn't be able to eat before closing. (Put names on list at 8:30, closing at 10) Finally seated and ordered 90 minutes later and then within five minutes of ordering, we were given boxes and told we would need to leave by 10:10. Please just be honest with people about wait times, I would've just gone somewhere else and come back earlier another time. I understand state laws are weird right now, but I felt strung along so that I would make purchase and was then notified of the rush to leave immediately after I got my food. The whole thing was just irritating. And staff was rude. read more

From a Mexican couple, living in Seattle: If your expecting good/great Mexican food.... don't come here. We noticed how busy it was, so we expected a different outcome. WRONG. We ordered a plate of nachos, with carnitas (which were very dry). The margaritas and micheladas were mediocre, at best. The service wasn't great, granted it was pretty busy. With that being said, the price is not worth what you get here! read more

At first, I was ready to write off Poquito's as just another place with the "it location" at 10th and Pike that was just "too trendy" to make it through the long haul. I was told there would be an hour and a half wait to get in when we stopped by Friday night. This is generally code for "try again another night", but the hostess was very kind and offered to take down our name and number and call us if a table became available. She did exactly that not 20 minutes later. Now that's service! Mole enchiladas and carne asada were both derrrricious! I had never seen mole sauce paired with the cotija cheese before, but somehow it worked amazing well. Their house margaritas were some of the best I've ever had! If you're a tequila fan, try the Tres Generaciones label - it's smooth with a sweet aftertaste, perfecto! The coolest thing about this place is the physical space. Poquito's is in the same building as Havana, and it is not so named by accident. Stepping into this place feels like stepping into another era, vaguely Hemingway-ish? Safari chic, perhaps? You be the judge. Poquito's, you are a winner in my book! read more

This place is a must if you're looking for good mexican in Seattle. Being from LA were spoiled with mexican on every corner and my boyfriend and i had been on a long trip and were craving home away home. The building itself is immaculate. Iron accents and steel all throughout give it a very tequila cantina feel. The indoor/outdoor patio outside has a full bar you'd think it was a different restaurant! We went for happy hour and everything was $5 bucks! The margarita which are normally $8 were $6. They were HUGE and hand made. I don't know if it's just an LA thing but normally happy hour house margaritas are out the on tap premixed baby versions. The taquitos are a must. We ordered a round of everything and one more of those. The mole fries were little tooooo chocolate-y for my taste but still amazing. read more

Ive been here once and enjoyed my dinner. A group of us came on Christmas Eve, and for starters we were happy they were open that evening, as many places aren't or close pretty early. The place was busy but we were able to get a table. Service was good and quick. They had a lot of good menu items, including healthier versions (which we skipped :)). We started with their queso, which I really liked!! It's on a thinner side (my preference). I did think it was a pretty small bowl (like a salsa bowl) for $5. I wish it was a more generous portion. As for my meal, I had the holiday chicken tamales. I liked them. They were moist, but the sauce was a little tangier than preferred. It was a nice portion size though and served with beans and rice. Everything was pretty tasty, and I would order them again. My only negative with them is they are pretty expensive. I don't think we've ever spent that much on Mexican food in my life (and we eat a lot of Mexican food from all over). 4 entrees (priced between $15-22 each), chips and queso ($5), 2 beers, a coke ($4), and two cocktails was over $170 with tip. So beer and cocktails must be marked up HIGH! I mean, that's insane. Not even sure how that added up. So just beware and double check your receipt. I am wondering if we were overcharged. I would go back if I was in the area, but given their high price tag, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit again. Food- 3.5 Service - 4 Atmosphere- 3 Price- 2 Location- 2 (given parking situation if you aren't in the neighborhood). They are worth at least one visit! read more

I wish I could give a better review for this place. I've tried to like Poquitos, but every time I visit has been a let-down. The food is meh and fairly overpriced for what it is, and the last two times the waiter and hostess seemed to be judging me for eating alone. Less than average service and the food was mediocre at best. The tortilla soup was essentially something similar to spaghettios or tomato soup. I would not recommend the Carne Asada. It was a grizzly fatty steak on a bed of ketchup, a scoop of guacamole and a few onion rings. The meat was 70% fat and grizzle. Very bizarre for "Mexican food." The prices are very high for what you get, but it's a trendy location. The only thing worth eating is the chips and salsa, which also come at a premium price. Chips are very salty, but tasty nonetheless. The flaming queso was Ok as it lacked flavor. Will not be going back. I've had better Mexican TV dinners. read more

I'm not the type of person who likes to write reviews but Poquitos outdid themselves. We put our names on the waiting list around 8:30 pm and we were told the estimated waiting time was around 35 minutes. No problem. We showed up around 9 PM and we were told we were the second in the waiting list. Again, no problem. We waited around half an hour, no one was coming by. Actually lots of people were coming and leaving since the host was absent. We were FINALLY seated at 9.50 PM. At this time we were just hungry and hoping to enjoy the remaining of our night. We ordered and our food and it arrived 10 minutes after. Two minutes into eating the server brought some boxes and told us that we need to leave at 10:10 PM because of covid policies and if we wanted we can pack our food with us. I was literally in shock at that point. We are not talking about a random cheap food truck, they serve three tiny mediocre quality tacos for 16$ and yet give us not even 5 minutes to finish our meal. I complete understand COVID policy and respect it hundred percent. What I dont get is why they didnt informed us beforehand. If that was the case we would've left before ordering. It is purely robbery at this point. Wouldn't recommend running your night with this restaurant. You can have a way better and cheaper taco from a food truck and enjoy your night without getting chased. read more

Came here to grab a snack with my girlfriend. Ordered the pineapple guac with chips to share. Although the pineapple is different than mango, and the overall texture and taste was blended well, I still prefer the more common mango guac simply because pineapple is much more acidic. However, that's really just a preference and I actually love pineapple so it worked out! Unfortunately, I felt the service wasn't amazing - perhaps because we weren't ordering as much? I had to repeatedly try to get my server's attention, and although I feel for most service places, the restaurant wasn't super crowded that day. I'm willing to let it slide if it was just that one day though. I'm willing to come back again to try something else and see if it's better but until then, I'll leave my review like this. read more

I've only been here once, so maybe take this with that grain of salt. We went for happy hour on a Sunday. It was 4pm and almost every seat was full. I think the ambiance was great. Nice tile work - open space but still a good place to have a private conversation - I bet in the summer months this will be a wonderful place to hang out. The margaritas were nicely priced (5 bucks for a pint glass full) and pretty tasty - somewhere between gourmet and margarita mix on the quality scale. I was able to get through two of them no problem. I liked the chips too, even though you had to pay extra for them. I don't actually have as much as a problem with that as my fellow yelpers - I'd rather have chips when I want them rather than mindlessly shoving them down my throat. They were pretty light and came with two good tomatillo based salsas. We ordered the yam tacos and the chicken tacos. Yam tacos were wonderful - mashed yam on a soft tortilla, very well seasoned. I could have skipped the chicken tacos - they were pretty spicy, not in a good, deep, way but more in a oh wow, this is a lot of spice way. There was also a small bone in the shredded chicken - at least it was fresh but I sure am glad I didn't swallow it. The service was friendly and great and the happy hour prices were too. I'm sure I'll end up here again but probably wouldn't wait in line for hours for it. We'll see how it develops! read more
